You saved the best for last! That's a great story to tell and is also one of my must-tell stories, as a lover of the Arctic: sled dogs and the people who rely upon them. Looking forward to seeing the photos you'll capture! Cheers!

Really just grabbed my attention with the dog sledding photo content and so looking forward to seeing your photos/vids. Newly subbed and excited. Lived in Girdwood back in late 70’s.

I just found you, and I’m really enjoying your videos. Your point about printing is spot on, it’s hard to master, but it will make you a better photographer. I also did something similar for a day-use bag. I bought an Osprey backpack and put padding in it.

Very good video Cameron, I love the fact that you are committed to Nikon, I get tired of seeing wildlife photographers changing every time something new comes out. It is not always the gear that makes a great image, it is the skill of the photographer knowing his gear and knowing the subject that he is photographing. I am a Nikon shooter as well and like you I love my Nikon gear and have no plans to chase the newest and latest. Like you said just get out there and shoot and enjoy yourself.

Another great video! I'd be curious to know more about the gear you wear to stay warm and dry up there in Alaska. Do you have a gear list or anything that talks about that stuff?

That RUclips algorithm at work again. Subscribed. I’m probably going to end up doing the bag thing because I cant find a bag that is comfortable.

You know how much money he wasted on camera bags? Personally I think they are a ripp-off. The mountain/ hiking bag & icu s the only way to go for wildlife/landscape photography. Best move he ever made.

Hi Cameron, good to have an insight into how you work and think about your wildlife photography. Your passion for wildlife / images always shines through and whenever i need inspiration to kickstart me i watch a couple of your vlogs/ videos and that usually does the trick. Keep up the excellent work, i always look forward to your next video.

Great story. I'm just getting into photographing birds. I just sat for 3 hours on a pond here in Washington State shooting wood ducks and redwing blackbirds. Got 3 pix that I'm very happy with. But the hours sitting and listening to a dozen other species.... just awesome.

Hi Cameron! First a thank you for an inspiring photo channel! Right away when you started talking about camera bags I began to wonder what your solution would be and thinking to myself if you were aware of FStop Gear. And then few seconds later there it is. I find their ICUs to be great. I have the large and will be getting the XL soon. Thanks again!

Don't waste your money on a blind, I too have been doing wildlife photography for a long time (23 years) and I've never used a blind. Like you I was also in the Army, spent six years doing that, 3 deployments to Afghanistan, so I understand camoflage and it's benefits and shortcomings! Even when I'm photographing water fowl and birds in flight at the Bay near my house, I would never buy or use a blind. It's not about the price, because I have over $25k in photography gear, it's that I don't need it and I don't believe most people do. Sure there are some situations and some benefits to them and I would never argue against them completely, it's just not my style. I don't even use LensCoat's anymore, as they just got in my way and I don't think the animals or birds cared. They like us look for and see movement, so having a lens coat on your giant super-tele lens is not going to confuse the animals or birds. It's near impossible to stay completely still while doing wildlife photography, so I just don't see the benefit to camo in general. To each their own and whatever works for you, that's whats most important, but for me I'm good without using blinds, hides or camoflage! Great video and I could relate with the struggle to find the best camera bag, especially when you have a lot of gear. For me I found a two bag system to be the best solution. I can fit almost everything into my everyday bag, which is a ThinkTank Airport Accelerator. It fit's either both of my D5 bodies or a D5/D500 combo, my 500mm f/4E VR FL, 70-200mm f/2.8E VR FL and 24-70mm f/2.8E VR along with my TC-14E III and whatever extras. If I'm just going out to do wildlife photography I bring my other bag, which is a Lowepro Lens trekker 650 AW III. It's the newest edition and carries up to an 800mm lens, so it easily fits my 500mm with hood attached and or D5/D500 attached. I can also attach a body bag to the side of the Lens Trekker and bring both a D5/D500, which I often do as I prefer switch to DX instead of a TC in good lighting. If it's low light, I'll use the TC-14E III on the 500mm and D5, as the D5 does better at low light high ISO. If I need ultimate reach, which is rare, I'll use both the D500 and 1.4x for 1050mm equivalent focal length!

Have you ever considered using an extender with the 400mm f/2.8 instead of the 600 to save weight when traveling? Does it reduce the sharpeness much as compared to the 600 f/4?

You said you sucked at wide angle photography, I can’t imagine that you suck at any photography. Your images are spectacular! I don’t want to sound like a stalker, but you are my favorite wildlife photographer, bar none.
I personally, have used the f-stop Tilopa bag and ICU’s for years. But lately I have been considering an Osprey bag. You may have just made up my mind for me. lol Thanks for sharing!!

I know for cold cameras and lenses . I leave in bag also but leave in garage for about one hour. Then bring in utility room to adjust one more hour. By then I already taken card out and played with pictures. An I love how ou slap reality on up grades or brands of gear. Lol. An yes would love to see more edits of eagles and birds. I live in Missouri so no moose here .

Great input Camreon and nice to see you're an Apache pilot! didn't know that.
You mentionned your Nikon Z6 at some point in the video. I'm curious to see how and when do you use it. Are you doing wildlife with it? Only landscape? Or video only?
what's your take a Z6 like bodies for wildlife? Thx!

What insert do you recommend for a 400mm f2.8?
I have always stopped in at my REI just down the street and thought, I need to convert one of these serious packs into a camera pack. I didn’t even realize there were inserts.

Hi Cameron , great work but if your interested in sled dog photography you should hit up Jeff Schultz the official Iditarod photographer . I have my own small team of huskies over here in NE Scotland and love taking pics of our adventures along with local wildlife . The Wild and Exposed pod casts are great and as you have i have learned a lot from them .
