    To those who usually get confused who won/lost:
    1.) The easier way is to look at who offered the handshake. Here, Vishy offered the handshake, so he lost.
    2.) But another way to confirm your conclusion is to look at the colour of boxes on which both the kings are put on. Here, Magnus played black and he won, so he put both the kings on black boxes. If the game had tied, one king is put on a black box, while the other on a white box.

    I think its a mate in 5 steps im just a newbie so corect me if im wrong, now white can move only 2 pieces king and rook but rook can't move from 4 as he can't lose another pawn so the possible moves are kg1 or kh1 and rb4 or rc4 you can consider any move here but result will be the same
    1 White Rb4, black Rd1
    2 Bf3 or any move, Re1 (if white move rook from 4 it Will be check mate by black bishop)
    3 Any move, bg1 check
    4 kh1, bf2 check
    5 kh2, bg3 mate

    • @saadahmad8185
      @saadahmad8185 Год назад +3

      You can say that nothing is left for white in this game now . He has to move his rook to first rank and then black can grab that hanging pawn and black has a clear advantage of two pawns . White can also give his bishop to avoid checkmate but in that case black is winning again. So checkmate is not forced. And if white rook remains in that rank to save pawn then checkmate is unavoidable . So he has to lose his pawn to save mate . Thats why vishy resigned

    To everyone who couldn't understand the end of the game, here's my take as to why Vishy resigned:
    His bishop is pinned on G2 because of rook on D2. Pawns are pinned.
    Anand can't advance his king. If he retreats his king to the H1 line, carlsen can advance his king to G3, restricting his space before taking the bishop, on G2 from his rook.
    Moving his king therefore isn't a viable option. If he decides to move his rook to the A1 position, Carlsen could simply take his pawn on F4.
    Furthermore, with the rook he can't setup a viable attack as carlsen's game would be to continue to develop his pawns, eventually winning the game.
    As they are/were both world chess champions, they understood this faster than we could, which is why they decided to end the game right away, instead of prolonging the inevitable.
    Also, for those of you confused about the move on 7.16 , it's a move called en passant in chess. Do look it up!
    Hope this helped :)

      quick question, to win a chess game, does a king always have to checkmate the opponent's king? or can another piece (say: the bishop) checkmate the opponent's king to win?

    • @sahiljindal765
      @sahiljindal765 3 года назад +52

      @@narjsk3587 it'd actually be impossible for a king to checkmate another king, as the king can almost always move only one space either side.
      In a scenario where the two kings, let's say white king is on A1 and black king is on C1, if the white king moves to B1, the black king could simple capture it. To avoid this, we have something called illegal moves in chess.
      Note: A king can only be checkmated by other pieces in chess.
      This is why if all pieces are killed, and only the two kings are on the board, the game is considered a draw.
