Dear Datuk Lat, I wish you many many years of good health. We are blessed to have you with us in our smiles. I am Ipoh Mali and we were rivals in all of our sports activities during the glorious 60's and 70's.

Dear Lat, you were an early inspiration for me in my drawing journey. Your art has provided a unique way for me to experience my heritage. Your ability to tell stories and capture the essence of your memories allowing us to enjoy the nostalgia of your childhood is incredible.

I was fortunate to meet Dato Lat personally and get his autograph on first comic book, The Kampung Boy in 1979 in the old MPH bookstore in Singapore. The Kampung Boy always remain my favourite as Lat’s ability to show what is it like to live in a multi racial country. His drawings about his friendship with a Chinese boy is the best! The sensitivity of offering Lat ‘roti pau’ with non-meat fillings by the boy’s family when Lat came to visit the boy shophouse show how understanding and respecting the Chinese boy”s family towards the Malay’s dietary needs even way back in the 50’s probably without knowing the word ‘halal’. Bless you Dato’. Nice meeting you and knowing you are still going strong .

In the foreword of the US publication of Kampung Boy, Matt Groenig (the creator of Bart Simpson) parallels Lat's raw charm to that of Charles Shulz's Peanuts..
