im with zach. he sold "Quakerism" really well. It so nice to hear about such an open and kind religion that believe and act that way. refreshing.
.... now i want oatmeal though
My grandmother was Quaker. Her memorial was one of the most moving experiences in my life, and this video has made me excited to go learn more about this part of my family. Thank you Zach for your great work and kind spirit!
I had no idea that Quaker's were so open & accepting of all individuals. Thank you for educating me.
Beloved Joe, rest in peace, by David's side. Deeply missed.
"In the same way that oatmeal is nourishing to the body, Quakerism is nourishing to the spirit" - this may be one of the best things I've ever heard. I'm definitely going to have to share this with my meeting!
I used to go to a Quaker school before I moved. Quakerism is technically a branch of Christianity, but there were people from all religions and even atheists (the vast majority were not actual Quakers haha). It was a very accepting place and a very global-minded place, and I think it opened my mind a lot.
We did have meeting for worship once a week, and there were times that I thought it was boring (I mean, I was in middle school) but it was really nice, looking back on it. It was usually 45 minutes long and technically silent, except people were allowed to stand up and just share thoughts or stories, and many people did. It was great because people could spend the time just connecting with their own faith or could reflect on what people said or their personal thoughts. I think I got a greater appreciation for spirituality through it, kind of separate from religion. This video was a nice reminder :P
I am a Quaker and many Quakers I know are not Christians.
So sorry he passed away. He seemed like a genuinely great person.
Hey Zach,
I have been using the "Have a Little Faith" series in my "middle school" Sunday School class and they are loving it. We are following along on your journey of religious exploration each week. Your series is doing exactly what I had hoped it would do, provoking thoughts & questions. I was very impressed with the "Quakers" acceptance of "Change" in the world and in their relationship to the world, God and each other. Keep up the good work and if you are ever in central North Carolina, we should get together.
This is awesome! So glad that you talked with some Quakers. I hope some of your viewers will come take a look at our channel if this video piqued their interest. We post videos every week about modern Quakers and Quakerism.
This is fantastic. I love how they explore religions without a prideful attitude. It is very non-judgmental and positive.
This is wonderful, and I hope they do this with many more religions. The first step to stop fighting is to stop and understand eachother.
Thanks, SoulPancake!
they still hate us Catholics quite a bit.
zebb1111
Oh, I'm not really that surprised. Catholics get a lot of hate nowadays. That's a shame that people don't show respect for the largest charity organization on the planet, not to mention that many of the world's most famous and influential scientists and philosophers throughout history were Catholic. :P
Steven Bowser Jesus warned us that it would be so. We should be proud of the privilage for bring hated for hhis names sake.
zebb1111
If there's anything I could choose to be hated for, it'd have to be being friends with Jesus. :)
Steven Bowser amen
my favorite vid of the series by far.. ''the only commitment we ask is to be open to change'' love Zach and my deepest sympathies for Joe
Joe Franko used to be my Teacher when I attended Mt. Sac! I didn't know any of these things about him and it makes me see him in a totally different light. I just recently learned that he has also passed away, although sad, it relieves the stress knowing he has someone waiting for him in the afterlife. Rest in peace , Mr. Franko.
My uncles were married in the Quaker church and it will always have a special place in heart.
That's beautiful!
Zach and Joe: GREAT piece on Quakerism. Reminds me why I am a Quaker. Thank you.
+Cathy Barney We are so glad you found this meaningful!
I am praying for Joe. Losing a husband must be one of the hardest things. I hope he finds some healing in his community.
I am falling in love with Quakers before I have even been to a meeting. It seems to good to be true. I will find out more this Sunday, I hope.
How'd you find it?
I know you commented yrs ago... buy I was curious 😊❤
As an atheist who generally abhors organized religion, this one I can get behind.
Agreed. Though I myself am agnostic, I try to take qualities from certain religions that I think make me a better person; Quakers are a great example of awesome people with awesome qualities.
Agnostics and atheists are welcomed in Quakerism. All are welcome!
If I weren't Catholic I would want to be a Quaker; I have a deep respect for them.
Clar Wikk Same! I love the tools of the Catholic Church, but I love the family aspect of Quakerism. They remind me of the early Christians who were recognized by their love. Pax!
i'm agnostic and didnt know anything about being a quaker, but after watching this i feel like that's a religion i could follow
You are more then welcome!
I can't even describe how much I love this series. Every episode manages to be interesting, touching and funny.
I love Zach, he is the absolute sweetest. The Quaker faith seems so lovely, too! I'd love to learn more about it. 😄
I think I'm falling for you Zach
THIS IS SO GOOD! I'm a Quaker, and this is so perfectly Quaker. Like that song, I actually know!
Favorite web-show on RUclips. Gives you hope for humanity.
What a wonderful man!
May his soul be in the place intended for him!
I really appreciate this video. I love Soul Pancake and nearly everything that they post, and this video is no exception. As a Quaker of many years, the Oatmeal joke comes up all the time and I love that he opened with that same joke only to explore the actual beauty there is within Quakerism. Also, reading these comments about people considering Quakerism warms my heart because I truly believe there is a place for everyone at Quaker meeting.
I love every episode of Have a Little Faith. Great job, guys! The Quakers seem like a group of fantastic and loving people. I'm sad I didn't know more about them before!
There is a Quaker Friends church near where I live and this made me think of going there. Nice job Zach!
Did you ever go? I hope you did.
First, I love this series!!
Second, I helped a friend who is in a Woman Christian band who played for a group of women Quakers... they really are amazing people. I was truly humbled.
I went to a Quaker college (Friends World) and it was one of the best times of my life. Great people and great principles.
Zach, thank you for showing us so much beauty. Loved this story.
Love this! I had no idea Quakers were so open. A truly lovely religion.
i adore quakers. they're so inclusive and peaceful.
Something about this series makes me want to jump around and dance like a little kid
If I was going to be anything other than what I currently am, I would totally be Quaker. They seem so cool, they're like Christian hippies!
I wish I could go with zack to these interviews since day one cuz learning about religions from a person is way better than reading all the comments online...keep up the good work zach
JOE! OMG Such a wonderful man. Then you show more Friends I know. I knew them as a young adult and met them at national Quaker gatherings. Joe speaks well for us. Zach, thanks for this service. I'll be watching other videos of yours.
Soooo....I knew nothing about Quakerism before but wow...what a beautiful religion!!!!!!
quackers are such awesome folks honestly one of the first groups to denounce slavery..
+Anoynmous Anonymous Also several where major slave owners, or invested in the trade, a consensus emerged that it was against the testimony to equality and the denunciation by the fairly substantial Quaker owned businesses was one of the first steps to abolishing the trade.
I love Zach so much. I wish I could talk with him!
He is a happy soul.
I love this series so much. Zach is an amazing host. I just wish that each religion would be 2 parters. I feel like I just get a very surface level understanding of whatever faith the episode is on. The series works really well for that but I wish it would dig deeper and get into a more of the beliefs, doctrine, and manifestations of each religion.
^SoulPancake, a lot of people agree! Take note!! :)
And God bless you, Zach Anner, for doing this program! :)
I can't help regarding all the other religions... but as far as being a quaker is concerned...
The main thing that quakers have in common, is their shared values or "testimonies", of which there are 6.
We use the acronym S-P-I-C-E-S to help remember: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, & Stewardship 😊❤
Very happy when I found Quakerism... I've never found a faith that's a better fit for me 😊 & Everyone is so lovely... No matter where you go ❤
This was great! I learned a little bit about the Quaker religion in my Sociology of Religion class last semester but seeing this video made it much more personal and I got a better grasp of the people in this religion. I love this series :D
I'm such a fan of this series. Zach, you're a badass, and I mean that in as peaceful and respectful way as possible, lol.
RIP Joe, you're missed
I'm a Quaker of two years. This got me thinking about it.
The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) are wonderful and you portrayed that beautifully in this video. If you're interested in the history of Quakers, there's loads of videos on RUclips which explains how Quakers were instrumental in dismantling slavery, treating the Native Americans like actual people, feeding the poor and much more.
That blasphemy joke in the beginning sent me, the way he took it was just so wholesome and I loved it
Aaaaaaw! I just want to hug Joe, he seems so nice!
I love it when I see a new episode of Have a Little Faith in my subscriptions. You always bring out the best in people and show the best of the world Zach. Keep em coming :)
Wow this is beautiful. When looking at "religion" it's wonderful to see hope in humanity practicing spirituality:)
Zach is awesome...thanks for opening my eyes to other Faiths...
Thank you, Zach! That video is a beautiful testament to Joe&David&the spirit of our Faith! Very grateful for your work!
wonderful video! I grew up going to a quaker school and my family and I started attending quaker meeting on sundays when I was about 7. I was skeptical when I first hear Zach was going to do a video about quakerism but I shouldnt have been, this was by far the BEST explanation of quakerism I've ever heard/seen! great job Zach! especially love the quote @ 4:03, priuses and birkenstocks haha
Thank you Zach! In my current family turmoil your positive upbeat attitude brings joy to my day.
There is a WIDE variety within the Quaker church--I went to one that was much different to this--it had a pastor and a service similar to most other Protestant churches with hymns and a sermon, etc. There's actually a movement within the Quaker church to start allowing communion as well (communion and baptism are not usually practiced, though individuals are free to participate if they wish).
Well that was darn beautiful!! This is like the religion of the future...no dogma. wow. I'm so pleased to see this!!! I was duly surprised. And Zach, you were as charming and handsome, as ever.
This makes me proud to be a Quaker!
What a wonderful & refreshing new introduction to another path!
Zach, you are awesome! I love this series so much! Please keep making these vids :D
I almost went to a primary school that was called The Friends School. I love the Quakers!
Zach has quickly become my new favorite youtuber. And I was astounded by what was to be heard about Quakerism!!
May they RIP ❤️❤️ forever I the hearts of each other
Quakers are awesome :D just what we need more of.. Equality, love, hope and change :)
Damn. I wanna be a Quaker...
Why??? lol you should choose a more conservative religion.
+Joseph Israel Di rossi Cause that's super exciting. Self denial!
wow! so not what i expected. i find myself again thanking you for asking the questions Zach. You are the best reported ever
Zach, your video is fantastic and inspirational. It made me laugh and cry. Well done buddy.
Loved to learn more about the Quakers. Keep up this awesome work, folks. :)
So enlightening and inspiring! Keep doing what your doing Zack!
This was just so lovely. A really great episode.
Woah, I never knew anything about the Quakers. They sound good so far! =)
I love this so much. Beautiful.
Man, that's a pretty awesome religion! I don't believe in god, but if I did, I might have ended up being a quaker.
I just thought I would inform you, I am a Quaker and I am agnostic and many of my Quaker freinds are atheists. Although quakerism does appreciate the concept of god and many quakers believe in god I don't think believing in god is fundamental to being a quaker. What is fundamental to being a quaker is believing in and valueing something beyond yourself ( that of good/god in everyone). In addition to this I think, although quakerism is a religion, it is also a community and in order to be apart of the quaker community you only need to be human.
the way I understand it, you don't actually have to believe in god to be quaker. Typically, the quakers I know at least, tend to reference the 'inner light' instead of god, which is kind of similar, but more centered on what's inside of someone.
Yes, basically you don't have to believe in god to be a quaker but you have to accept it may be something that is ministered about.
Sorry it just occured to me ministery wasn't explained in the video, ministery is when a member of the meeting tells the meeting of a spiritual experience they have had or something they are thinking about.
Ok, this IS the awesomest religion (-ish?) ever. A sucky thing about being an atheist is that you are excluded from having a church community, which I think must be pretty nice. Keep it up!
i love your videos. you always put a smile on my face
I love this series! Thanks Zach :)
"Quakerism is the oatmeal to the soul"
It's important to remember that in the US there are several branches of Quakers and it is important to find out which kind of Quaker Meeting. Some meet mostly in silence, and some have more traditional programmed services with just a small period unprogrammed, and are much like traditional churces. Some are very tolerant of a variety of beliefs and other's follow what is called the Richmond Declaration, which is close to a Christian creed. Some are open and accepting of lifestyle differences and some are advocates of tradtional Biblical sexual mores. Unprogrammed liberal Friends (usually FGC) are where you will find the unprogrammed meetings and usually a high level of acceptance and tolerance.
"Quaker Joe" FUCKING BRILLIANT!
RIP Joe.
Dang, Zach is an awesome guy. He is a great host and has an awesome sense of humor. All his little comments made me laugh.
great video, thanks Zach and friends
I'm thinking there should be this kind of movement in all religions
I loved this, although I am a tad biased being a young Quaker... Great job Soul Pancake, I was hoping you'd come to our neck of the woods!
I'm a young quaker too and I was thinking exactly the same thing
It's a young Quaker party! :D
Love these videos, Zach is amazing! This religion seems really cool, I love how they focus on what they can do rather than what they can´t do. They seem to really support each other rather than restrict what they can do
This is a beautiful, thanks for much for sharing and allowing us a peak into these different types of faith :D
I am actually eating Quaker oats right now...
I love this show! I cry every time I watch it, but happy tears! :)
I was just going to comment about how I cry during every episode too. It's always so moving.
I just wanted to say that I love these videos! Especially these ones, where we don't get to hear about these smaller religions. Thank you very much! :D
This series is inspiring.
I can't wait for the next one!
And now I'm crying
I'm so happy I subscribed to this channel! Nice video :)
Very interesting video Zach! I also didn't know anything about Quakers until I saw this video. Such a sad story... That poor guy :/
Terrific!
I love the idea of an adaptable religion. Pretty amazing stuff.
this is amazing
This really made me smile :)
I love this
Awesome! Zack, u rock!
Such a great video
