- The Kinks take Iceland by storm, think it's 1965 but please let me know if I'm wrong. I have two other questions:
1) who are the support bands, especially the kids in the stripes?
2) just what is Dave waving as he steps down from the plane? Видеоклипы
Oh...to be 16 years-old again, but know what I know now!! LOL!!! The KINKS were the BOMB back in the day, and I still listen to them now that I'm an old man of 75!
The Kinks are playing live but the live track has been removed and the studio version dubbed on probably due to the poor sound from the screaming and the lack of amplification in 1965
Seems like a lot of their early concert footage had the studio version over dubbed
I´ve read about this. The venue was a cinema for few hundred people. The Kinks played two shows per day for 4 days. In between shows (since it was a cinema) the venue was cleared for cinema guests to watch a film!
The Kinks were great. The very early stages of hard rock with songs like "You Really Got Me" & "All Day & All of The Night".
The concert was not earlier than August 1965, since the warmup group was singing a Beatles song from the "Help!" LP.
Yes, it called "the night before"
@@albertoc4038 Yes, of course. I was only trying to get the time frame right. "Help!" was released on August 6, 1965.
The Ac:DC of the middle 60s
I remember, I was 6yr old 1964
And a Kinks fan at that age? LOL!!
Both of the support acts were Icelandic. First one was called "Tempo" and the second one "Bravo"!
About the band Bravo! Their parents let them stay up late playing this gig?
The guitar is still playing when Dave adjusts the amp.
The first support act is a band called Tempo, The kids in the striped shirts are called Bravo. I don't know anything about them, except that they're both Icelandic. Got the names from the swedish commentary. Great vid :)
C ' est toute mon adolescence, avec ces groupes mythiques !
sometimes i wish i had been born two decades earlier... wish i could have seen them play in the 60s and 70s...
The first band is playing The Night Before and the second I’m Down both by The Fab 4.
Great video, many thanks to WhiteRose63, I was at one of those concerts, 13yo at the time, still remember my seat was in row 7, and the opening act of Kinks was the coolest thing I had ever seen and was to see for several years. At this time The Kinks were next to the Beatles in fame and popularity. And still have a special place with me. ... PS the first band is Tempo, then Bravo from Akureyri, really young kids, I never heard of them later.
Ah! Thanks! Tempo covered a "Beatles song.
Boy did "You Really Got Me" piss our parents off or what? LOL
Thanks and watching for the first time reminded me how great this group was in 1965 :-)
Ha you'd think this was a beatles concert because of all the crazy girls lol.
One good thing about the kinks is that the audience most of the time were fairly relaxed, meaning they were able to be better live performers than the beatles.
later that night, Bjork was conceived.
Fantastic, that was the way it was.Great newsreel.
One of the opening groups covering the Beatles 'The Night Before'!
awesome stuff thanks white rose63 for sharing, and ta muchly mister reali for hipping me to this great footage of one of the best beat groups the world ever knew!
Kids band lead singer..chewing gum while singing...lol. Was the tv sponsor a gum company. The original American Bandstand Dick Clark in Philidelphia....their sponsor was Wrigley's so every teenager in audience was chewing gum.
Nice synching job by the film editor.
"What was Dave waving?" 0:15 We sure need the latest deciphering software for that....
"Who were the two support bands?" 'The Bottles' and ' The Bees'(striped shirts) ....
two of Iceland's thousand Bietel tribute bands who went on to great fame and were inducted in Iceland's "Ruck & Roll Hall Of Lame" .
Interesting footage but somewhat of a cop out from Swedish newsreels to play Kinks' studio versions behind this. For those interested in true live Kinks ,this link to 1965 Paris will do fine , with a pre Brian Jones Anita Pallenberg trying to impress a just married Ray Davies with her irresistible smile..

amazin, innit? all these years later, here they are on one's desk top. strewth. never woulda thought it possible....
Dave would marry Lisbet from Sweden 2 yrs later in 18 April 1967. They had 4 sons together divorced in September 1990.
It is! I've got a white Bison just like it, with the scroll and all.... but would also love to have a menacing black counterpart.
Great upload. Thanks!👍
Terrific vid! Thanks for posting!!
The support bands are probably local acts - listen to the heavy accent of the singer in the first band. My best guess anyway.
THANK YOU!
Iconic
THANKS THANKS THANKS, WhiteRose63, for the GREAT GREAT GREAT video ! Love you for this !
Both playing Beatles Songs
X-tremely cool video, thanks for posting!!
Sorry for being pedantic, but this newsreel is in the Swedish language and not Icelandic. Therefore it is a Swedish newsreel talking about the Kinks in Iceland. Television did not enter Iceland until 1966. Cinemas were early, but I don't know when in Iceland
Yep. That is Swedish. They should change the title.
Dee Raz Exactly
it does say Swedish newsreel.
thank you. we share.
My dad played in bravo :D
Bravo Iceland...Cool rockin' Daddy! opening for the 65 misfits!!!

What's his name?
@pallivall This was from '65 which makes it 45 years now. I need a time machine!
Check out the beautiful Burns Bison bass at 1:11 . That guy's a dead ringer for Runar of Thor's Hammer (who also played a Burns). I know it's not him, but maybe his kid brother?!
Genios!!!!!
1:48 me estoy riendo feo perdom pero ese niño suena como un chanchito memeo es tan tierno aaaayy
The Kinks didn't usually get this kind of reception, but then Iceland didn't get a lot of famous rock groups performing on their soil.
Dan Sm They usually didn't? Jusf check out their performances at Shindig and Hulabaloo, that exact same year ,and then.tell me the kinks weren't well received!
eu racho! muito bom
Awesome
I thought I heard the word "tempo" in this video, so I thought maybe the group was called the Tempos. I see they were actually called Tempo. It sounds to me like the second group (who all look like they were 12 years old) is called "the Heretics." Was there a band called the Heretics in Iceland at that time?
Tempo is from Keflavik.
no from Reykjavík
the kinks footage is either lip synced or over-dubbed with crowd sounds added.
cool footage, that keyboard player is hot! form Tempo! lol!!! cool shades!
His name is Þorgeir Ástvaldsson
That vox is the king tiger of musical blitzkrieg. Sweden fell in two hours.
The kinks song has been overdubbed over film. How do I know? Its exactly like the album version down to the piano backing which is not on stage
Yes, it happens all too often!
@jenzeppelin If I happen to find one, you're welcome to come along on a trip back to the fabulous, golden 60s era with me. I must advise you though... I may not want to return, of course you could if you like, but I'm sure you feel the same. ;~}
Little 9 year old rocker kid wins for chewing gum and singing. Cool as Greg Lake in him prime.
the kids are the lollipops
Ye
Thought it was the kinks in france in 65
Are you from Arbutus, Maryland?
@fwzzybird haha i was thinking the same XD
0:38 mercedes ponton! =)
wherever it is thats a great crowd as opposed to the sleeping crowds in germany at the time
joanna fanta sleeping crowds? Just look at the Beatles'tour in Germany in 66! You could barely hear the beatles from the screams!
First group looks like ? and The Mysterians
“96 Tears.”
As far as screaming chicks,I could handle a bunch of Swedish ones!!
No, Redhill, England
beatlemania??? no!!!
kinkemania xDD
quel document!!!
You really got me is mimed here, surely? It's too close to the record?
Bert Evans I think the recording was added afterwards by Swedish television, since it really looks like they mix with the amps a lot!
wildcatter63 It is exactly like the studio version, but there is no piano on the stage.
Plus Dave takes his hand off the guitar and the riff continues to play. Definitely a recording. :)
These are the studio recordings matched up to the visuals. Probably because the sound was so appalling.
wow - you can almost feel the heat rising off those cute Icelandic girls...
Omg, who’s the thumbsucker at 6:14? 🤭😂
Ha! Needs a nap/not so impressed.
yeah, it overdubbed somehow ... even with his back turned ya can see no one is even close to playing that (Jimmy Page?) lead.
kiely .....dave did the solo!
At 0:17" you can see Bjork, third little girl from the left.
she was in her mother's belly
Menn kunnu sko líka að slamma í þá daga.
gosh DO NOT let you daughter watch this
