The reason I clicked on this video was that I wanted to know what true tone display is, what are its functions and etc. So this video was completely useless. Please try better next time!
I think most people just don’t know how to use True Tone... myself included, until I watched a different video (no offense to these guys.) The warmer looking screen is better for reading text like if your reading an ebook on your smart device. While turning off True Tone is better for taking photos and watching videos because you get a truer color of what image really is. Hopefully this helped without being condescending.
From what I found. How noticeable it is greatly depends on the color temperature of the lighting in your room.for example I noticed if I’m on a room that has a fluorescent lighting with “Cool White” color temp then the true is very very subtle. But if the fluorescent (GE) lighting is “Day light” then the display also is a bit reddish or a magenta tint is there. If I turn off the True Tone the display becomes more bluish I would say.
Apparently you’re supposed to have it on when editing video because the colours around you influence how you see the colours on the screen. The True Tone adjustment tries to change the screen temperature so that you see the most accurate colours in any environment.
What is True Tone? Ans: True Tone is a display feature included on a couple of Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad and MacBook range. It is a sensor technology that adapts the brightness of your screen according to your surroundings, with the aim of making the screen easier on the eyes Credits- Google
It's probably too late to answer this, but here you go, ambient sensor on your iPhone is constantly working and the phone is continuously altering the colours on display. So yes it affects the battery, but the load is offloaded to Motion co-processor, hence the overall impact on battery is significantly low. For health of your eyes, it's better to keep it turned on.
True tone turns off automatically when you are watching a video or taking photos and it goes back when you are on the home screen or when scrolling through apps. 🎉
HEREEEEE The feature tries to match the color temperature and intensity of your device's display to that of the ambient light in your surroundings. This allows the content on your screen to appear more natural, while also, at least Apple hopes, reducing eye strain.
I chose this video so I could know what lighting to use it in. Like if you are in a pitch black room. Do you turn it on or off? Or when you are in a really bright room. On or off? Can you answer me please? Also, (I understand why they didn't put this in) What the difference between true tone and just the regular brightness?
Lol wherever I watch and information video I always pause it before it starts and read the comments. Sad to say the comments are more informative than the videos sometimes. Thank good this was one of them.
My display started flickering after walking outside on a cold day, then everything froze. I rebooted and the flickering remained. Turning off True Tone seems to have fixed the problem. (I have iPhone 11).
Guess it’s only in person. I know True Tone overall helps your eyesight in the long term by not straining your eyes, but I can definitely see the yellow-ish warm colors and it bothers me.
Victor Ryan I have True Tone on just because, but I don’t really see a difference even in person, that’s why I looked up this video to see what it does, only time I see a yellowish screen is when I turn on the Night Shift for the blue light
Yeah I can see 240hz and 144hz I just think it’s for color blind people because I have great vision and can’t tell the difference this video didn’t help at all in my opinion it’s like my grandpa pointing and saying look no help tbh
TruTone does not have an impact on the photos/videos you shoot. Because once you import those photos or post them on social media, they won’t be impacted by the trutone filter.
No bro true tone is same for batery and oerfomace always take that option on becous turn iff make iphone display cheaper that is why not iphone 6 7 not having. It 🍀🍀🍀
Okay that’s nice but can somebody please explain why anybody would want their screen to have a yellow filter over it at all times? Who is this for? I’m so confused?
Actually the "yellow filter" you're referring to is probably the night shift function. Night shift is used to eliminate more of the harsh colors your screen feeds to your eyes at night, and to display a more warm, inviting tone. The reason they added this was to actually help you get a better night's sleep, as warmer colors have been linked to natural production of sleep chemicals in the human body. While it won't make colors look better or improve color accuracy, you can try it out for a couple weeks to see if your eyes enjoy it better or if you get any benefits. Hope this helped, cheers!
it hasn’t been changed, but True Tone is good for the health of your eyes, but consumes an extremely small amount of battery quicker, honestly though you really won’t notice a difference in your battery life and if you do then you should probably get your battery replaced
Not sure I understand this logic. The display is backlit so the ambient light temp is not going to have any effect on the screens perceived colour temp. By the way ironically the colour temp of this video is noticeably too warm.
Exactly!! That’s what I’ve been trying to explain to people this whole time. The only instance where True Tone would make sense is if you’re using a projector or something along those lines. True Tone is terribly marketed. It should be considered a “comfort” or “reading” setting instead. True Tone is the opposite of “true” and it quite literally inaccurate compared to it being disabled. Although, even when the display is in its default color settings, it still leans cold. The newer models pretty much track a perfect white point now. If I’m not laying in bed with the lights off, I ain’t using True Tone. P.S. I also noticed that this video was a bit warm. Although I believe that is due to them over-saturating colors during editing. P.S.S. I know I’m making this comment 2 years later, I’m a little late lol
The video itself gets a metaphorical thumbs up for its quality and thoroughness of explanation; all around a good effort for some earned likes and deserved monetization of them. However, it gets neither a physical thumbs up or down for its necessity or helpfulness. I understand now what true tone is, but not quite sure how or when to apply its functionality. Although they did mention how they stumbled upon it, they could’ve done a better job at telling viewers when to deliberately apply or use it with realistic examples.
i didnt really watch the vid in full. i saw the thumbs down ratio being too much compared to the like ones so i had to jump and hopped on the bandwagon. hahahahhahaha
El truetone siempre pone el tono de pantalla solo un poco amarillento, como si el night shift estuviese graduado solo con un poco de amarillo calido, simplemente es absurdo apple quiere vender esto como algo diferente siendo ambos iguales tanto como el true tone y el night shift
I like the True Tone screen, but I don't have it because my device is an iPad 8, it doesn't have a P3 screen, and it doesn't even have True Tone, for example, when watching a movie against a long period of two or three hours, the screen should be comfortable and the colors are warm Also, nobody would want to see their reflection when watching a movie or video and that's what I struggle with. I only wish the iPad 10 reduced annoying bezels and added P3 and True Tone
You saved me!!!!! I shoot product photography and could not figure out for the life of me why the colors weren’t accurate! It was a nightmare! Coral was too orange and everything looked too warm. Amazing! I knew it was a setting but couldn’t figure it out! Thank you!
The reason I clicked on this video was that I wanted to know what true tone display is, what are its functions and etc. So this video was completely useless. Please try better next time!
ELMAN I agree , we all know what it does and how to activate it
ELMAN same thing i thought
They explained it in the beginning are you serious ? Wow
Umm, they pretty much explained what it is and it’s function right at the beginning. It was pretty clear to me.
words 🙌🏼
This was like my Dad and uncle trying to explain technology.
Hahahaha
I don’t understand, they explained it perfectly and showed examples

Thanks brother
How about for daily used like social media, games etc. should to turn on or not ? I need advice tho 😅
Thankyou so much! This is way better explanation than this video hahaha
Yup this is what I was looking for
You explained it better than these guy😂😂should've seen this comment first
You didn’t even answer the question smh 🤦🏻♂️
we know that already, the video didn't explain should I turned it on or off, how is it affecting battery etc.
you should be able to figure this out yourself, do you want color correction based on your environment or not?
they literally explained the reason in the first minute of the video! maybe if u payed attention to the video it would make sense stupid
@@mas96 you really are stupid huh

True. It looks a bit like amoled bcz they too tend to be yellowish a bit

Himanshu Jagtap Does it save more battery life when its turned on or does it drain more ?
Kareem SPX it drains the battery 🔋 but you won’t notice it.
So is it necessary to have it on or does it just use more of my battery power? Also, does it affect the look or color of my videos when I record them?
The only comment this video really needs, and it doesn’t even have a reply/Answer lol
True tone turns off automatically when you are watching a video or taking photos and it goes back when you are on the home screen or when scrolling through apps. 🎉
Does it effect your phone bad or good? Or is it just something you can chose depending on your likeing?
I think it has more to do with preference
Does it use more battery??

What about having it on in a dark room?
Does it reduce battery life?
I’ve got an iPhone 7 Plus and I don’t have True Tone display but my lighting changes

Yea maybe but if I have how do I turn it off?

Warmer color - less strain for your eyes ,so better at night readers
Cooler color - better at daytime
My new iphone X S max is freezing on set up at true tone dispay
This is one of those useless videos where i want my time back
For editing videos or pictures is better to have on or off?
How can I keep true tone on all the time? On the iPhone 8 I either have to schedule a minute of true tone being off or turn it on manually every day.

True tone display
Low light : turn on
Day light : turn off
The comment section did a better job explaining what True Tone is than this video
I didn’t notice a difference when you turned it on and off in the studio, so I’m calling malarkey that either of you did.
