      Dubious!
They destroy a lot, as well as construct a lot. Is the balance right? Much of the environment destroyed is unique, and the costs are extremely high. I agree that benefits will be gained but do they outweigh the costs?

As a supporter of HS2, thanks for your update. It is very interesting to see the progress of this vitally important project. Lets hope HS3/4 are not too far away that takes us to Scotland. Hopefully well within my lifetime. Removing the need for air routes between London and Glasgow / Edinburgh and putting much more freight onto the railways would be an astonishing achievement. We will look back in 30 years time and think how brilliant that we did this instead of building motorways that are three times the width and which destroy far more of the environment.
Look forward to your next video. Thanks again!

    Nice clear presentation.
Just one point, could you be more specific with dates ie, instead of saying 'next month' could you state the month and year as we sometimes watch them out of sequence or long after original upload.
Another thing I have noticed with artists' impressions of bridges and viaducts is the cantinary superstructures aren't portrayed accurately.
This was very noticeable on HS1 impressions and actual completed structures.

Thank you for the comment Keith. Point taken about the dates.

This really an excellent presentation. I have read most of the HS2 documents and feel the same way as you now. Too much damage and no way is 14 trains an hour the market unless the plan is for it to be a commuter rail.

Is it worthwhile? No direct link to the Channel Tunnel, no direct link to Heathrow - it seems to be a vanity project for the Tories.
    Does it help the UK?
    Not much

    • @Ingramdumpkiss

There is no need for direct link to the channel Tunnel because everyone has to detrain for passport and customs checks - you can't leave the train just stitting there in the platform while 500-1000 people queue up to be checked. Therefore a travolator link of just 400m between Euston and St Pancras is sufficient. Old Oak Common provides a cross platform link to Heathrow trains so it s just a 10 metre walk between trains. If you think avoiding a 10 metre walk with a 10 mile deviation is justified that really would be a vanity project don't you think?

@@Ingramdumpkiss I want passport & customs checks in Birmingham and Manchester - bypass London stops altogether. Birmingham to Paris, or their twin city, Frankfurt, non-stop would be ideal and a reasonable expectation

    • @Neilhuny

Ditto direct to LHR, if that isn't obvious. You call it a 10m walk, I call it a completely unnecessary hindrance - pack your gear up, stop, lug luggage, wait - meaning the train is barely worthwhile.

@@Ingramdumpkiss The only place a people mover is actually planned on HS2 is at Birmingham Exchange Station to transfer people from the Exchange Station to Birmingham International Station, the NEC and Birmingham International Airport, it has been speculation of Chinese whispers that one is being built in London as it is already there, it is known as the Tube / Underground. Why do they need to dig up London for a people carrier when the Tube already exists.
