HS2 is London to Handsacre with a branch to Birmingham. From Handsacre HS2 trains run to Liverpool, Glasgow and Manchester on the WCML. London to Manchester will be around 1 hour 40 minutes in time. That is *not* slow. Add a Stafford bypass then 10 minutes can be knocked off the London to Liverpool & Manchester times.
Lots of information missed in this debate, and some miss information. HS2 going to no where in Birmingham? This is totally incorrect, it is being built on the SE side of the city centre, next to Moor Street station and 1/2 mile from New Street station. Miss information by the panel again!
Do you actually know any thing about Birminghm, HS2 is going to Birmingham where else is it going, I actually live in Birmingham and can catagoricaly tell you that although Birmingham Curzon Street station is mainly in East Side which is now a part of Birmingham City Centre with the Think Tank Museum and Universities there, but the main entrance is in the City Centre like Moor Street Station with it's main Entrance on Moor Street Queens Way next to the Bullring Shopping Centre and acroos the road from the main shopping Centre and Primark and Birmingham New Street Station is less than half a mile away,
Euston is being tunnelled to now and they will extend to Crewe without a doubt, that being said it is interesting you did not mention the Pennines upgrade or the midland rail hub or the electrification of London to Cardiff or Edinburgh to Glasgow, the UK is doing fine in infrastructure…
Problem was it is built through the south for the benefit of the north. Lot of south NIMBYs did all in their power to make it unaffordbale- high proportion put in expensive tunnel etc. Answer was to give large chunk of contingency budget to the Local Councils where the line is being built. Tell them they can keep any savings. They could tell NIMBYs where to go and make sure there was plenty of contingency left from them.

0:56 yesss, 480 km an hour...
You should let the other guy on the screen talk more.
The first intervention made it clear. Overthinking everything else.

This is really sad. Lot of money already spent, lot of work done, bunch of rich dudes making trouble because they don't like public transport.
But the costs will double again with no gaurantee it will get finished .

It good change oak common for elizabeth line to Heathrow Airport also GWR service west of England 🏴 like Didcot parkway?
Cancel the cheap Northern part and keep building the most expensive southen section, top quality civil service knowledge there.
It is the Southern half of the WCML that HS2 is being built to ease congestion on this part of the line
