My favorite quote from JayzTwoCents - "Just because something new came out doesn't mean your system will start running slower." So true. I'm 12900k / 4090 / Z690 for the next several years.
Out off this topic for a bit. Bro i followed your channel since there were like 20k or smt followers. Now you're this big and wow what a journey you've did throughout these years. I remember knowing nothing about computers and had to keep coming to ask you for specific parts and copy some build ideas. Finally i got my own cyan nr200p build. It's like watching your dad done his work and wanna walk on his path. So proud of you man!
I have the Z690 version and it's great for my white build...I just wish the whole board was finished in white. I'm so sick of dark/stealth builds and wish we had more choice.
Honestly, GPUs manufacturers should consider continuing production on White GPUs, especially on RTX 3000 series and also wish there was on 4000 series as well.
Not going to lie, was planning on getting an Asus Prime board, but after seeing the pcie slot q-release button, I knew I had to upgrade to a ROG Strix (it's also available on the TUF DDR4 only z790 boards). There are bloodstains on my Noctua D15 from trying to remove my graphics card.
I'd take a B660 with an i5-13500 (for budget content creation, given the P+E configuration) if vendors release a BIOS update for their current boards. Great overview, Nick!
I've been scouring videos and all kinds of info for this board along with its other versions but, I learned a new thing or two from this video like the reversal of the PCI-E release mechanism. Thank you! Also, was intrigued on your sentiments about it in your closing thoughts and to add to that: I think many people don't realize that they actually make a DDR 5 version of the z690 board along with the DDR4 version. However, here's the interesting part (which I think backs up your thought process), the z790 version (this board) only comes in the DDR 4 version.. Truly weird in my opinion.
Can you confirm it has 1x PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot? I thought all ddr4 z690/z790 boards have just 1 PCIe 5.0 slot anc no 5.0 m.2 slot, must 1 on ddr5 boards
If you check AMDs wedsite it says AM4 far from dead. Supported with new releases for a couple more years. Probably 3d versions of each processor. Then they’ll do 3d’s on the 7000 series.
Im still running on the i5 9600kf on a z390 A @5.17ghz with a 1660ti and it's still perfectly fine for using an orchestral amount of vst's in my music software and play all the games out right now when Im not feeling it. I like the bios of asus boards. For me personally though, I'll probably go with a z690 A for all white or an F/E for all black and a 12 7k because they will probably/hopefully be cheaper soon with black friday and cyber monday around the corner with the i13and 790 fresh in the stores. Should be fine for an undervolted 3080 @1440. I have 2 cards just sitting there waiting and saving for the rest of the components to see what I can snag on sale, while building a racecar and trying to keep my music library as current as possible lol, if we still used vinyl and singles were $6 or $20 for the lp I would always be broke.
My 2013 ITX system is still running great. It just needs more Ram. I would get a DDR5 board for more ram for when those 2X64GB kits will come down in price

Perfect video, it's subtle things on it, but I think this board looks better than their X670e Strix board. And that's a really nice looking board. The IO panel on the X670's worlds better. But this looks like a killer MB for the Z790 chipset to go out on.
The question why you would want to buy a dead platform in lga1700 on ddr5. Z690 ddr4 boards on sale should be considered. Intel didn’t care for z590 either. They rarely do for the second run on the same socket.
Z690-a has 2 more sata ports, but the z790-a has 4 sata ports and wifi 6e instead of wifi 6. I don't know if i want this or the MSI white board of a similar price instead....
Leaks rumours 13th gen is not even 10-20% better than 12th gen for gaming. More of a massive boost for content creators with the e cores and windows 11 platform.
I watched a remote live review from jufes frame chasers channel and from what he had gathered theres between 1-3 percent frame increase in gaming, and obviously very high multicore score over the 12900k! From what I saw he only had it clocked to 5.5ghz all core, I believe it does boost to 5.8 turbo but we shall see when 3rd party reviews come!
@@cybersamiches4028 I wouldn’t jump on believing a review from a guy that didn’t even have the actual processor in hand and was tell some dude what to do over the phone.😂😂😂😂 how gullible are you?
@@animegeek6118 Jufes has extremely reliable information on pretty much everything. While he didn’t have it in hand, he gains nothing from lying about this. He would lose his audience if he was lying about the information. He also regularly gets higher performance from his components over every single mainstream review channel because of overclocking experience. Don’t like him, that’s fine. But he has valid, testable information. And when he has one in hand will be doing an in hand review of the product.

The x670e Strix has a white cover on the VRM and it's got a far better selection of USB ports on the rear IO. This is definitely a killer board though.
