No need to apologise brother, its touching to see someone who's not Australian be moved by it, this really should be our national anthem. Just for context, the lyrics in each verses tell the story of (in order) the indigenous Australians who were here for tens of thousands of years before the British, the British settlers who came a couple of hundred years ago, a descendant of the settlers who's family has been here for generations, then it talks about a few of the more significant and culturally impactful social figures that have shaped our collective identity and societal values, and finally the country itself and all it encompasses. The differences are obvious between all of the characters of each verse, but there's something bigger than that which is the same in all of us and brings us all together. It's a beautiful song and a stark reminder of just how lucky we really are here

There have been multiple times in my life where I have felt the heartbeat that IS Australia. The first was when visiting Uluru 51 years ago on a school trip. As soon as I felt the heartbeat I knew what it meant to be part of this country. The second time was in 1997 in Adelaide at an International Midwives conference when all the males were excluded before three "aunties" from somewhere in the Northern Territory shared their women's business dances with us because as midwives WE are WITH women. The third time is every time I go bush to a shack I have on the Murray River. Just me and my dogs for up to 10 days, and sometimes I don't see another human being which is pleasant, but it is that 10-15 minute at sunrise and sunset where there is NO sound except the heartbeat of the land. I am grateful to your ancestors who have all brought the Dreamtime to us all. "I am the ancient heart, The keeper of the flames..." And now we all need to come together and LISTEN to how to care for our country from those who have come before!

"I Am Australian" by The Seekers is a song that celebrates the identity, history, and unity of the Australian people. Written in 1987 by Bruce Woodley and Dobe Newton, the song reflects the diverse cultural background of Australians, acknowledging the country's Indigenous heritage, its British colonial roots, and the immigrants who have made Australia their home. The lyrics highlight the shared experience of Australians, regardless of where they come from, and emphasize the nation's sense of belonging, resilience, and pride. It speaks of the beauty of the land, the struggles and triumphs of its people, and the sense of being part of something larger than oneself. The song uses a chorus that resonates with a deep sense of connection to Australia, particularly in its reference to the idea that, despite differences, "I am Australian" represents a collective identity that binds people together in the spirit of the country.
Aboriginal culture has recently been proven to be at least 65,000 years old. The longest living culture on earth. Judith Durham was considered to have the purist voice in the sixties music when the Seekers were the first Australian group to top the international music charts. Her voice remained pure throughout her career. She was a beautiful person who did a lot of work for charity. RIP Judith.
Those 4 people have been part of our Australian culture for the last 62 years. They started in December of 1962! That is when they sang their very 1st song...Have a look at their younger years.
Great reaction, thanks! This was from their farewell concert so it was an additionally emotional performance. This was The Seekers final concert. Judith had an amazing voice but sadly she left us not that long after this concert. The Seekers had quite a career from the 1960s and got together several times before they finished with this amazing concert. Mike in Oz
Somebody once referred to this song as one of the love songs to Australia. Part of being Australian is being prepared for whatever this wonderful, (yet sometimes scary) country deals up to us. Yet despite this, it is not uncommon to see the most hardened firefighter, or the most recent new arrival to gain Aussie citizenship tear up as we join in to sing these songs. There are often challenges, as in most countries. eg. the floods, the fires, the droughts, more floods, fires and drought but Aussies have developed a culture of support and sharing. We don't have a big thing about waving our Aussie flag at every little meeting, nor do we spend a lot of time carrying on about how wonderful we are, we just do stuff. As an older Aussie I still see it as evidence of Aussie mateship, just as I see that mateship in the readiness of so many people who are ready support others. Apologies for my emotional comment.
Perfect example of how "we just do stuff" happened on Easter Monday 2024 on the Calder highway about 300 kms northwest of Melbourne. A huge tree fell onto the highway following a freak windstorm blocking all of the traffic. Two blokes appeared with chainsaws and two with winces on their utes. The chainsaws were hilarious as one belonged to a farmer and was huge while the other miniscule one belonged to a holiday camper and looked like it came off the set of "Bob the Builder." However, using both chainsaws and the winces meant that the highway was cleared in 45 minutes without anyone taking control. We just all pitched in and helped each other, as we do! The police arrived 5 minutes before the last of the debris was cleared. We all patiently waited while one woman fetched her broom from her caravan and proceeded to sweep the highway! At the time I kept thinking, THIS is what we do BEST!
awesome reaction! :) it's such an incredible song and i think a lot of australians wish this was our national anthem as it really does make you feel proud and it's easy to sing along to it. a lot of the names in the song are famous australians from all different walks of life.. and the song represents something which is really important in these troubled times we live in.

You don't have to live in Australia to be counted as an honorary Aussie. Basically, you have to be a good, open, friendly person. Over here, it's "I'll help you, and you'll help me out."
@@mozpogson3639 Aboriginal Australians have lived on the continent for at least 65,000 years, which is likely longer than modern humans have lived outside of Africa. This makes them the world's oldest continuous living culture. Compliments of AI

G'day. This group has been performing since the mid 1960s. They had bigger crouds than The Beatles back in the day. The lady singing was quite Ill at the time of this peformance. There is so much to tell about The Seekers.
We don't wave flags around, and we are not loudly patriotic. We are very laconic about our connection to country, but it runs very deep. This song brings tears to my eyes every time.
I used to work at an English language school for international students & it’s amazing how many of them told me “this song makes me want to be Australian!” ❤
I cry every time I hear this song. Amazing words that ring so true. Covers the traditional carers of this beautiful country to all that have come since. We are a united country and I love this ancient land and it’s people. Please, if you settle here, respect this way of life and leave your hatred and issues behind
I was 15 when I first felt the power of the heartbeat resonating from Uluru that makes us all a part of being ONE. Uluru it is like no other place I have been to, except the Golden Temple in Amritsar India, which is man made. Both places radiate peace and harmony, even though that may not always be so. While we have our differences, like every other country, there is something inexplicable that brings us together when we need help or see others who need a leg up. It unites us whether we have been here for 65 thousand years, or for 65 days and it makes me both humbled and proud!
This band started in the '60's, Aussie icons. This was one of their greatest hits (and they had many) and also their farewell concert. The song starts with the POV of the indigenous people, and it is now believed they were here for more like 60,000 yrs, before the British invasion. One of the oldest known cultures. It goes on to speak of different eras of colonization and integration that we went through to be where we are today. We're not perfect, but we are very multicultural. You can be yourself here, whatever your culture, religion, beliefs, as long as you're not hurting anyone, it's all good, you're Australian.✌❤
Us Aussies shouls have thos as our National Anthem. I am 62 and gwt emotional every time, especially when its The Seekers performing. Judith Durnhums voice was powerful and elegantly beautiful. ❤🇦🇺
FYI Redback spiders are the same family as Black Widows. This song gives every Aussie goosebumps.. This (the Reprise) will be our National Anthem when we are a Republic.
Judith Durham was in her late years when she sang this song. The men with her are brilliant. They were known as The Seekers in the sixties. I think our best band back then.
If you liked “I am Australian”, you will also like “I Still Call Australia Home”. Qantas Airline has used it in an ad several times. This is the earliest version, and my favorite. It brings a lump to my throat whenever I sing it.
Judith Durham was an Australian treasure. A voice like no other. I had the pleasure of interviewing her back in the 90s on the radio as I'm a radio presenter. She was lovely to chat to. Her voice had a quiver and tonal quality that is so unique. Keep up the great version on your channel! Craig - Australia
This is 'The Seekers' farwell performance and Judith had recently had a stroke and couldn't move her left arm and she was sitting down. She died not long after this performance. You should look up their performances when they were young and famous.
I cry every time I listen to this song. I am definitely Australian. I married a New Zealand lass and lived there for five years and listened to this song every time was homesick. It makes me extremely appreciative the message of this song transcends nationality. Also, Judith’s voice has a uniquely melancholy quality to it.
Proud Australian here, I get tears and well with pride every time I hear this song by The iconic Seekers. If you want another one to wet your cheeks, you should listen to I Still Call Australia Home by Peter Allen. Thanks for giving this song such heart.
Hey man after this song you need cheering up, there's an AFL video about Mason Cox the 6'11" American who came to Australia to play AFL it shows with footage his trials and triumphs with plenty of his own commentary about the experience, guys over your way and here too seem to love it, it's called "Don't believe in never" Regards from Mark, Western Australia clip: ruclips.net/video/XBRqqd5Vh_c/видео.html&pp=ygUJbWFzb24gY294
This group formed in 1962 broke up in 1968 and reformed 25 years later in 1993 until Judith's passing in 2022, written by Bruce Woodley who starts this song and Dobe Newton of the Bushwackers back in 1987. The Seekers first performed this as a group on their reunion in 1993 . Its now estimated 65,000 years .
I’m so glad you loved this. Judith Durham was the best singer I have ever heard. I’m proud because she came from my hometown Melbourne Australia.🇦🇺 it’s a fabulous song. ❤️ Sadly Judith passed 2 years ago, but I have seen this group perform this song and many others live several times
By all means, come! Make it your home! We only ask in return, you love it as much as we do! Just don't bring the culture you're running from with you! There's no room for that here!
I am a 35 year old mechanic who works on hotrods and rides dirtbikes. This song makes me cry. I have to skip it when I am driving, it makes me too happy to the point of tears.
Always gives me goosebumps when I hear this song…..We are one but we are many…..how true is this statement…..I love all the lyrics in this song…it truly would make a great National Anthem…
That song should be our National Anthem. It is a pocket history of our nation. If there was a time in my life that I heard it and it didn't bring tears to my eyes then I can't remember it. It is Australia, it is all of us. Australia is a racial melting pot. It is our diversity that makes us who we are. Long live Australia. The news of the passing of Judith Durham was very sad. She should have been declared a national treasure. In fact the Seekers are worthy of that treatment.

We need a referendum to change our national anthem to this song 😉
This was The Seekers final concert. Judith had an amazing voice but sadly she left us not that long after this concert. The Seekers had quite a career from the 1960s and got together several times before they finished with this amazing concert. Mike in Oz
This was in 2013 (or 2014 in the UK), she lived another 8 -9 years after this tour. She passed in 2022.
The seekers and the great late Judith Durhum. Love their music but this is probably my favourite. It explains Australia so well.
awesome reaction! :) it's such an incredible song and i think a lot of australians wish this was our national anthem as it really does make you feel proud and it's easy to sing along to it. a lot of the names in the song are famous australians from all different walks of life.. and the song represents something which is really important in these troubled times we live in.
Always makes me emotional . Such a uniting song. Judith had had a stroke and needed to sit on stage for this concert. Voice still magical and clear. Beautiful ❤
You don't have to live in Australia to be counted as an honorary Aussie. Basically, you have to be a good, open, friendly person. Over here, it's "I'll help you, and you'll help me out."
Good reaction Buddy.
Time to apply for a visa.
It is now been proven to be over 60,000 years that our First Nations Australians have lived in this great country.
As creation only occurred about 6,000 years ago, your claim is nonsense.
@@mozpogson3639 we are many, but looks like you're that one brah!
@@mozpogson3639 Aboriginal Australians have lived on the continent for at least 65,000 years, which is likely longer than modern humans have lived outside of Africa. This makes them the world's oldest continuous living culture. Compliments of AI
@@mozpogson3639considering the earliest anatomically modern human fossils belong to Homo sapiens and date back approximately 200,000-300,000 years, your claim is nonsense.
@mozpogson3639 and as you believe in magic snakes, magical people in the sky and a brown guy who turned white you require help. Don't like the science then I am not sure what you are doing listening to this song.
As others have said don’t be sorry for singing along, this is what should be our national anthem as it’s what makes us different.
The fact that you couldn't help singing along said it all!❤
It’s a great song
It is a great song, and it says, "And from all the lands on earth we come." So it is a bit for everyone
I adore this song..always gives me goosebumps and tears
I am descended from a convict. Aussie born and bred😊
Same, mine came here in 1791, and proud of my ancestry…
Hard to have been here for 3+ generations and not have a convict in there.
This song always gives me goosebumps. It should go down in music history as timeless.
Beautiful reaction 🥰
This song always brings a tear to my eyes. Proud Australian here.
And a very big welcome to Australia.
She has the most incredible voice!
Great reaction man. .. Dear old Judith has passed but heaven now has one more angelic voice.
I am Australian & I absolutely loved your reaction
Happy you enjoyed
Love your reaction every ep you do. So happy, it's obvious you totally get this one. This song says it all ❤
FYI Redback spiders are the same family as Black Widows.
This song gives every Aussie goosebumps..
This (the Reprise) will be our National Anthem when we are a Republic.
We now know that it's actually 60,000 years of Indigenous Australian history we can appreciate and celebrate!
We are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on earth we come. We share a dreams, and sing with one voice. I am, you are, we are humanity.
I have always thought that Judith Durham was and is the best popular music voice that has ever come out of Australia, effortless ability.
I love the patriotism of the song and the deep understanding of why we sing with one voice.
Yeah brah, this is our real national anthem. This is what we're about.
This has always been to me our National anthem. It should be our Anthem.
It always makes me cry i live in Australia 9
She was an amazing. I saw her live by chance. Her voice was so distinctive and lovely.❤
This is 'The Seekers' farwell performance and Judith had recently had a stroke and couldn't move her left arm and she was sitting down. She died not long after this performance. You should look up their performances when they were young and famous.
This was 2013 Melbourne (also toured 2014 UK), she died in 2022 so 8 -9 years later 😊 ❤
Any Aussie worth their salt tears up with this song
I cry every time I listen to this song. I am definitely Australian. I married a New Zealand lass and lived there for five years and listened to this song every time was homesick. It makes me extremely appreciative the message of this song transcends nationality. Also, Judith’s voice has a uniquely melancholy quality to it.
Love watching reactions to this song … makes me so proud to be an Aussie 😁🇦🇺
Proud Australian here, I get tears and well with pride every time I hear this song by The iconic Seekers. If you want another one to wet your cheeks, you should listen to I Still Call Australia Home by Peter Allen. Thanks for giving this song such heart.
You are an honorary Australian now, we welcome you here
Listening to the Seekers sing this song gives me goosebumps every time…. One proud Aussie here…..❤
Your reaction was and is beautiful buddy. It shows what a great man you are❤
Hi ,I like your videos . All the best from Tassie ,Australia..
Glad you like them!
I love this song. It should be our national anthem.
Hey man after this song you need cheering up, there's an AFL video about Mason Cox the 6'11" American who came to Australia to play AFL it shows with footage his trials and triumphs with plenty of his own commentary about the experience, guys over your way and here too seem to love it, it's called "Don't believe in never" Regards from Mark, Western Australia

Wonderful thank you from Australia come visit our country any time 🎉
I’m so glad you loved this. Judith Durham was the best singer I have ever heard. I’m proud because she came from my hometown Melbourne Australia.🇦🇺 it’s a fabulous song. ❤️ Sadly Judith passed 2 years ago, but I have seen this group perform this song and many others live several times
Should be our national anthem. Brings tears of pride to my eyes every time I hear it.
Judith's voice *always* gives me chills.
Thank you for "getting it".
Judith had one of the beautiful voices in the world. Their song "I'll never find another you" was my Mum and Dads song.
Makes me cry every single time I hear it! I’m a proud 75yo Aussie great grandmother…
THIS is our favoured anthem. Everyone knows it and sings along when ever it is played.
By all means, come! Make it your home! We only ask in return, you love it as much as we do! Just don't bring the culture you're running from with you! There's no room for that here!
Sweet reaction
62 year old Australian here. I cry every time I hear this song.
Best song ever for an Aussie
I am a 35 year old mechanic who works on hotrods and rides dirtbikes. This song makes me cry. I have to skip it when I am driving, it makes me too happy to the point of tears.
Great Australian song sung by the Seekers..
Always gives me goosebumps when I hear this song…..We are one but we are many…..how true is this statement…..I love all the lyrics in this song…it truly would make a great National Anthem…
The late great Judith Durham was such a beautiful sole and that song signifies what Australia should be and it should be the national anthem
Its perfectly normal to want to sing along with this song. Every Aussie does.
I love your idea of a version of this for the entire world!
We need to think of all of humanity, and all of the planet we live on.
As an Australian from Greek Migrant parents this is such a powerful song. Seekers had such a beautiful melody.
This song is the history of Australia, it seems like a sad melody, it in reality its soulful and intended to bring us all to a place of unity.
Judith sings 'I'm a daughter of a digger'. A digger as an Australian or NZ soldier. Particularly from ww1.
Should be our anthem.
The lucky country.
