I liked how in Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 you see them carrying big boxes underneath do deploy AT-STs from. They're long skinny boys, but that gives them a big space to carry things from.
The Sentinel is my most favorite shuttle in all of the Empire. It's just that awesome of a shuttle. I really love it so much, especially thanks to Empire at War, so I'm glad Eck is giving it a video to spotlight just how great it is. Even if it makes him sick.
I went into a state of transcendent euphoria as the visual center of my brain identified your comment and processed the extensive expression of passion within.
I loved Force Comander. It was my favourite of all the games. The amount of times I played it, the amount of hours I spent playing it... I doubt any of the Star Wars games put together could beat that.
@Michael Andrei Palon I mean the amount of hours I spent on that one game is more than all the hours I spent on any of the others. I have been desperate to get my old computer working again so I can play it again.
The Legends version of the Sentinel is massive(Usually there's a tiny one in OGfront 2 on the Kamino Rebellion map), the Disney Canon version is way smaller but DOES get a tailgun similar to the Lambda but slightly worse in positioning. There IS a hologram of the Legends version projected from the Rodian cyborg's headband in Rebels which is odd. Could be an error or maybe they were planing an Sentinel 2 in Newcanon.
In rebels, most of the Imperial ships/vehicles we see are meant to be early versions of what shows up in the original trilogy. So probably very intentional.
One of my favorite moments in Rogue Squadron was when I caught Seerdon too close to the ground and dropped half a dozen proton bombs on him with a Y-Wing. That was very cathartic.
the running joke about the shuttles they always kept stealing, is that it was the same shuttle every time. this is even brought up in a minor dialogue between Ezra and Zeb while piloting said shuttle. Realistically though, steal some crates of blasters, occasional munitions, the Empire can basically roll over and go to sleep on that one. You start stealing multiple Assault Landers, one of the bean counters is going to take notice.
Lambda Shuttle has been my favourite ship since I was a kid. I loved seeing it used in Jedi and then again in Mando. I always imagined fitting it out as a houseboat like the Falcon. The lander is cool as hell. Still one of the Galoob toys I don't have.
The Sentinel-class Landing Craft is perhaps my all-time favorite ship. I had the original Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels (still sitting on my bookshelves today and containing the *definitive* rendition of this ship), and the Sentinel was always the first entry I flipped to. Of all the Star Wars ship toys that I acquired and lost over the years, only the Sentinel's Galoob Action Fleet model remains; I'm looking at it right now on my dresser. As a kid I always imagined it as something my character would have modified for his personal ship. And I too always got a small thrill each time I saw it in Shadows of the Empire racing by it on a swoop bike. I really have no idea why there are so many dumpy-looking versions of this ship out there, this thing is a shark. And in my silly daydreaming as a child, I also always insisted that a rear turret be added. 😁 I wrote a response to your last video bringing up the Sentinel, then promptly deleted it when I realized you probably didn't put it in your list for a good reason. What a pleasant surprise to see it then addressed so soon in its own video. Thanks!
I couldn't agree more. For all the times the Empire followed Tarkin Doctrine anf cut corners on their smaller vessels in favor of the capital ships, the Sentinel (and to some extent the Lambda too) broke that rule big time. For years now, I've wanted to see some post Endor pirate "Marauder-izing" an old Sentinel. Basically doing to it what Clone Force 99 did to their Omicron. Maybe even "Falcon-izing" it, beefing up her guts and heart while junking her exterior.
The XG-1 is probably the single-most underrated starfighter in all of Star Wars. It's tough as nails, armed to the teeth, and stylish to boot. Its only drawback was it was even slower than a Y-Wing. Fun fact: There's a ship you can get in No Man's Sky that looks just like it, naturally I make it a point that every character I create in that game owns one.
#askEck There's a couple craft that don't get a lot of mention in the old EU when it comes to shuttles like this. Any chance we could get some coverage on the middle step child between the Lamda and the Sentinel, known as the Kappa Class? Or maybe a bit on the Grek-class that Imperials had for boarding operations?
Got this lego set as a kid a played with it all the time. Always wondered why it was bigger than the lambda but just figured it was a lego thing. Super cool ship and set, been built in the parents basement since i was little
In legends, there was a modified Lambda-class T-4a shuttle that Jodo Kast piloted, known as The Foxcatch. For an Imperial ship, it actually looked pretty cool. Keep in mind that this was ships from the 90s legends stuff, so it looks a little goofy.
#askeck While the Empire’s Tarkin doctrine was clearly named and stated over its history, did the rebels ever put a name to their own starfighter-focused military doctrine? If so, how was it named? If not, what sort of name would you hypothesize?
As a kid I built the old Lego set of the Sentinel shuttle from 2007 (it was just called "imperial landing craft") and always loved it. One day it was dropped and shattered and i never bothered to put it back together, now I have no idea where the parts are.
If you are covering bad Star Wars ships, the Carrack Cruiser deserves a video. I think what happened is that it was supposed to be 35 metres long and then somebody put a comma into the wrong place and now the ship has a windshield that has enouch space to land two and a half YT-1300s on it.
This is something i never understood. its canon, yet in all canon video games (both battlefronts and squadrons), the Lambda takes the troop transport role and boarding party, as if the Sentinel never existed. Man, I loved them deploying troopy in force commander and empire at war. And I agree with slothfulcobra, was cool how they carried containers in rouge squadrons
I love the look of the sentinel. Though I would argue the delta class dx9 transport is a much better dropship/lander for the empire. It has tough shields and armor as well, and boasts a great amout of guns and missles. Plus it looks cool ;) great video eck!
@@DIEGhostfish of course there is an argument for both, but you forget proton torpedoes and ion cannons are no joke. Its practically a gunboat that can carry both the deadly space troopers and stormtroopers. I imagine the sentinel had better sensors, and of course it carried more troops and vehicles, but for a assault transport, I would personally value the greater firepower, protection, and boarding capabilities. The dx9 is practically half the size of the sentinal and carries proportionately same amount of troops (30 and not counting vehicles as they are useless in boarding enemy ships) Both ships have their place and the sentinel is still an awesome assault transport and is arguably better for planetary use. I am not trying to demean it, I just think the dx9 is better because it focuses on space combat a little more than the sentinel.
All these pre-prequels Clone Wars ships look so weird next to prequel ships, because they actually look like downgrades from OT stuff unlike the prequel designs. It retroactively makes Empire dumb for abandoning better-designed vehicles.
I'd like to make a callback to the 'The Empire's Insanely OP... Shuttle?' video about the Gamma Class Assault Shuttle. It should have been about the 'triumvirate of terror': the Assault Shuttle, the Escort Transport and the ATR-6 Assault Transport. I reinstalled X-wing Alliance after that video and any one of them is terrifying to take on if you're flying a single seat fighter, one of them is slightly weaker, I don't remember which one exactly, but in practice the player needs a squadron of at least 4 ships to make an attack on any of them not a suicide mission, unless you're flying a B-Wing or Tie Defender, and it's still a close call. And then there are also the Scout Craft and System Patrol Craft: In the campaign they are extremely nerfed, flying very slow and with a low rate of fire. But if the player fights them in the mission simulator they are the same kind of terror birds as the shuttles, even worse as they are faster.
So it like the Chinook compared to a normal chopper Also it's a seemingly paradoxical element in real life planes and even ships: larger models have the capacity for even larger engines and even fuel so can go much faster. It's like a Cessna VS a 747 or the SR71 VS an F22
Such a great ship! I just started replaying battlefront: Ellie Squadron on the PSP, and I love that this is one of the imperial ships you get to pilot.
Can we get a video on the best and worst Ugly fighters please? I think that would be awesome. Also Eck, if you were to have a ship in Star Wars, what would it be and how would you modify it?
i wonder how this would do as a personal starship for mercenaries, bounty hinters, or smugles. its got the space in the storage to modify, weapons and defenses and good hyperdrive. it seems like this is a perfect fit for a small unit to base out of
it can carry 54 troopers as well as heavy equipment and speeder bikes and by reconfiguring the cargo compartment it could carry up to 12 additional AT-STs - Imperial Handbook (page. 46)
#AskEck I noticed in RoTS when Vader is slaughtering the separatists on Mustafar, in one brief clip (1:35:07), he appears to be in pure agony. Is this a continuity issue between the novelization (where he was thoroughly enjoying it) and movie, or is there an explanation for it? Thank You very much
I had the Action Fleet version of the Sentinel Shuttle and it was just so fun to fiddle around with. It even had the recessed blaster cannon up top. Great variation and upgrade of the Lambda.
#askEck have you ever heard of the Imperial Stormtrooper Transport that looks like a CIS Platoon Attack Craft? It was in the background of A New Hope above Mos Eisley. I have never seen anyone talk about this obscure vehicle. I found it randomly on Wookiepedia.
Rogue Squadron 64 had AT-PTs spawning out of them which didn't make sense to me as a kid, was the mission where you had to protect the Nohnah crashed ship. Especially since in that game they show you the Viper transport that can already hold multiple walkers. They basically turned it into a monster closet with wings lol.
One thing I've never really understood is what purpose the wings of Imperial shuttles actually serve. The ventral wing and the two lower wings make me think of the horizontal/vertical stabilizers in a plane's tail, but in a universe of repulsorlifts and artificial gravity I wouldn't have thought ships would need to stabilize when flying this way. There seem to be plenty of other shuttles in the Star Wars universe that can fly just as easily without, the GR-75 for example.
The Sentinel is such an awesome shuttle. I remember falling in love with it after playing Force Commander as a kid, then Lego released a set of it when I was a young teen (I believe they released a newer version a few years ago too). I would often order in troops/vehicles just to see it and hear the pilot lines. I also loved it's Rebellion counterpart, the Rusty Eagle. Force Commander is 👌. Old game, can be janky at times, but man...good times.
Make a vid on the Sheathipede please , it's so elagant , and like a fighter shuttle , I'm trying a design for a disguised Tie defender Folding it's wing up , to look like a heavily modified imperial Sheathipede , for spec ops for Fulcrum , in my no hope to hit fanfic
Fleet battle between Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron
The Sentinel should be compared to the Theta shuttle/transport from Rogue One. Granted, the Sentinel would probably come out on top, but there could be some key points made.
I always thought the Sentinal, with some modifications, would make a badass bounty hunters ship. It's already designed to survive being under fire and it has lots of interior room for extra shield generators, prison cells, etc.
I have the old Action Fleet Sentinel and Lambda and they were by far my favorites. The Sentinel even has a retractable ion cannon in the neck between the cockpit and main body
#askeck How do you think cost factors in when comparing the Lambda to the Sentinal? Lots of modern military problems 'seem' easy to fix until you realize than one costs six times more than the 'worse' option. Is the Lambda the GOAT because it was 'good enough' AND cost effective? That's my head-cannon anyway.
#Askeck What is your favorite extinct/endangered Star Wars race? Without disney corprate incompetency, would you like to see them return to the movies/TV shows?
I found strange that no one tried to imitate the Eagle from Space 1999, it's a good design, flexible, naturally it wasn't designed for war, but its configuration allowed to carry different containers, and, as our Skycrane, would've been an interesting support vessel for the Empire.
#askEck I have had a question i wanted to ask for months now.... and the end of the videos you have a video of a cute dog but i have been unable to find the original video... where did you get the original video from and how can i find it? 😂 i must have that video 😂
I don't really count the Sentinel as a shuttle, it's really more like a military transport. Difference in purpose - it's not there to transport just whatever needs to be shifted, but is a little more specialized, for troop deployment or heavy cargo drops. It's just a bit big to be ubiquitous.
I remember playing 'The Search for The Nonnah' mission on Rouge Squadron 1 so many times as a kid, and every single time I pumped as much laser fire and missiles into the Sentinel that plops down and deploys AT-PTs, tanks, and AT-STs that I could, hoping I'd be able to destroy it, but never did. Just goes to show how much 25% more armor makes a difference. ...Or it could be just that it's made indestructible for the sake of not screwing with scripted events...
I figure the lack of rear-facing weaponry is probably a consequence of cramming so many other awesome systems into a relatively small hull. Besides, it's essentially an assault shuttle, made for flying straight into the thick of combat and unloading troops and vehicles under fire. Like the AT-AT, this thing is pure frontal assault. Basically, if your rear is to the enemy, you're using it wrong. Doctrinally I imagine the Imperial Army and Stormtrooper Corps conceived of its use in such a way that by the time it departs the combat zone it charged into, everything immediately capable of harming it from behind should have been neutralized by its heavy forward armament, its escorting fighters, or the ground unit it carries. Imperial planners probably assumed that they would always have air and orbital superiority when deploying landers, so the lack of rear-facing weapons was likely judged a minimal risk for most combat scenarios they were likely to face.
#askeck Which ship would you pick for a crew of adventurers/explorers/treasure hunters? Or rather which ship class would be the best suited for such an endeavour (either from CEC or CEC excluded ' Cause it seems like the most obvious choice)?
I think a YT-1300 would be a pretty good choice because it is relatively cheap, easy to use, has onboard living and storage space, decently armed, can be easily modified with high supply and demand parts, does not attract any unwanted attention and can push additional cargo that you collect from treasure hunting. Other CEC ships that are similar in size and design are also a pretty good choice.
For the lack of a rear gun i think it doesnt need one, it think the vehicle is more used to deploy troops when tie fighters and bombers have cleared hot zones so the sentinel can deploy its on board assets more safely since it deploys so many at a time.
Love the Sentinel. But in a post-Empire galaxy, if I were to get hold of one, I would have to move the dorsal to the rear over the two wings. Would look better, and leave space for another level for cargo behind the cockpit.
I recognize it; Im sur it was made into a lego set (although quite poorly detailed), some unamed imperial troop transport. It was one of the gifts it for my birthday when I was an early teenager. I have always prefered this model over the classic lambda (wich I had too). But the white triangular shape with folding wings is always striking. Maybe its time to gather all the pieces again, probably taking dust in a box somewhere in the attic... Maybe there is even an UCS version somewhere.
I've remember the Sentinel because Moff Kohl Seerdon use it on Thyferra in Rogue Squadron 3D when it face Luke Skywalker in the only boss fight of the game, very hard to take down because of the armor, at least 5 tries it took me to beat him.
I'm not sure i'd consider the Sentinel a shuttle. I'd say its more of a light freighter, long range assault craft. It can carry a fair amount of cargo and vehicles, has beds, has a mess, has shower and toilet. It can operate for weeks if not months on its own consumables if its not carrying troops. It puts it out of the field of shuttle. In star trek its like calling the runnabouts shuttle craft. you could do a long range multi-month mission on a runabout or even longer... the size of the ship puts it large then some of the freighters.
I remember in 2007 I got a Lego set of the lambda shuttle for my 13th birthday… (I know, I was entering Teen Kingdom at the time, but I still loved Legos even I was going into puberty so please cut me some slack.)
I always liked the Lambda, but never like when it was used a s workhorse or assault lander. It always felt to me like it was the officers (or VIP) transport. So the moment I saw the Sentinel added in the special edition I immediately loved it.
#askEck Is it possible for a ship to be stationary in hyperspace? Doctor Who had an example of that in 1979, I'm curious about the physics of a dimension used purely for FTL travel. Enjoy your break!
#askEck are you aware Palpatine had a Great Niece in legends named Ederlathh Pallopides? I found her scrolling wookiepedia and, according to the page, she was going to be used by some Imperials to try and diplomatically end the war, Pallopides serving as figurehead Empress of a joint Imperial-Republic government (being still a child at the time). I wondered if you new any further details, or in general that this even existed.
Great content as always, but can we get a shout out to the incredible footage from FORCE COMMANDER!!! My all-time favorite Star Wars game! So glad you included it, as the Sentinel appears a lot in the game
As kids with friends we would just call Sentinel "that dark grey bigger shuttle" lol. And then hate on how hard it was to take one down in Rogue Squadron :D
While the lack of a rear defensive laser gun turret is, well, a disadvantage, given the Sentinel's shape and design--a more compartmentalized, significantly more massive, with a discreet propulsion "block" at the rear that could match or even exceed the Lambda-class shuttle in acceleration--it's entirely plausible that the designers literally had no good place to put it that wouldn't compromise the aerodynamics while having a poorer field of fire (basically the flaw in the overwhelming majority of defensive gun turrets in real life aircraft design). That's even before considering that the powerplant might have little energy to spare between the larger shield output and drive systems; the turret might've been deleted to help with those. It's a weakness for a ship in that role, but I actually really appreciate it when we see minute but believable technical flaws in this sort of design (especially for a craft that would be manufactured by the thousands and often used in comparatively mundane roles. Neat video.
I liked how in Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 you see them carrying big boxes underneath do deploy AT-STs from. They're long skinny boys, but that gives them a big space to carry things from.
These shuttles have very strong shields. I remember them taking several bombs from TIE bombers in Rogue Squadron where as my Ywing only took 1 bomb.

Good day ,the sentinel Lamda shuttle, that different multi perpies.good day all.
What's the Sheathipede in?
@@Rensune the CIS commanders Shuttle and the 2nd Phantom shuttle in the Rebels are the Sheathipede class , u can see it in clone wars or Rebels series
Fleet battle between
Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin
Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron
Eck: "Sentinal class shuttle"
Rouge Squadon Players: *vietnam flashbacks of Moff Seerdon's battle*
there is one vehicle I'd like you to talk about.
Grievous' Wheel Tank
Rogue squadron was my first introduction to the Sentinel Shuttle too!! It’s one of my favorite missions of the game in fact
The Sentinel should be compared to the Theta shuttle/transport from Rogue One. Granted, the Sentinel would probably come out on top, but there could be some key points made.
Hey Ecks, which would you say are the most underrated civilian ships in the franchise?
The sentinal is so badass in rebels, the lambda only appears once in it

What is your favorite extinct/endangered Star Wars race? Without disney corprate incompetency, would you like to see them return to the movies/TV shows?
I found strange that no one tried to imitate the Eagle from Space 1999, it's a good design, flexible, naturally it wasn't designed for war, but its configuration allowed to carry different containers, and, as our Skycrane, would've been an interesting support vessel for the Empire.

I have had a question i wanted to ask for months now....
and the end of the videos you have a video of a cute dog but i have been unable to find the original video... where did you get the original video from and how can i find it?
😂 i must have that video 😂
Why dont they use this more in the recent shows :(
I don't really count the Sentinel as a shuttle, it's really more like a military transport.
In the spirit of bringing back classic Eck formats, how about the return of battle breakdowns? They're some of my favorites.

Which ship would you pick for a crew of adventurers/explorers/treasure hunters? Or rather which ship class would be the best suited for such an endeavour (either from CEC or CEC excluded ' Cause it seems like the most obvious choice)?
I think a YT-1300 would be a pretty good choice because it is relatively cheap, easy to use, has onboard living and storage space, decently armed, can be easily modified with high supply and demand parts, does not attract any unwanted attention and can push additional cargo that you collect from treasure hunting.
Other CEC ships that are similar in size and design are also a pretty good choice.
Its also in star wars force commander RTS on PC XD that game was the first time I heard the star wars theme in a metal cover
For the lack of a rear gun i think it doesnt need one, it think the vehicle is more used to deploy troops when tie fighters and bombers have cleared hot zones so the sentinel can deploy its on board assets more safely since it deploys so many at a time.
I always thought of this as an assault-lander more than a shuttle. Similar to the LAAT/i.
in my view the best way to describe the Sentinel is that it's the CH-53/CH-47 to the Lambda's UH-1/UH-60
Playing SWG-LEGENDS (Star Wars Galaxies Legends) and building up ships is great! Space combat is amazing! Very in-depth.
Love the video
One of my favorite ships. Damned thing is terrifying! I loved seeing it in the games.
the sentinel sounds amazing Eck!! can't wait to ask you some questions!!
LEGO needs to make a Sentinel set, I love Cygnus's tri-wing shuttles and the Sentinel is my all time favorite
These shuttle variants are really good, especially with the more models that come out.
I've remember the Sentinel because Moff Kohl Seerdon use it on Thyferra in Rogue Squadron 3D when it face Luke Skywalker in the only boss fight of the game, very hard to take down because of the armor, at least 5 tries it took me to beat him.
Oh man those scenes from Force Commander bring back memories :D
Congratz man on almost 1m views best channel ever.
It amuses me how Eck is trying to make his titles as aggressive as possible for these vids lately.
6:00 No Scooby Dooby Doo now? Darn. I like that.
Love the rogue squadron clips. I used to play that on my dad windows ls computer and it was so cool.
You are so good making things that I find boring too interesting that I think the best Star Wars ship It's you
#askEck Is it possible for a ship to be stationary in hyperspace? Doctor Who had an example of that in 1979, I'm curious about the physics of a dimension used purely for FTL travel. Enjoy your break!
#askEck are you aware Palpatine had a Great Niece in legends named Ederlathh Pallopides? I found her scrolling wookiepedia and, according to the page, she was going to be used by some Imperials to try and diplomatically end the war, Pallopides serving as figurehead Empress of a joint Imperial-Republic government (being still a child at the time). I wondered if you new any further details, or in general that this even existed.
The Theta-class T-2c shuttle was used for over a thousand years and was even used by the Empire in Battlefront 2005.
I'd love to see you do a breakdown of the Incom Y-4 "Raptor" transport. Always felt it was a capable shuttle with a unique gimmick.
Great content as always, but can we get a shout out to the incredible footage from FORCE COMMANDER!!! My all-time favorite Star Wars game! So glad you included it, as the Sentinel appears a lot in the game
Well, I haven't been called a rapscallion in quite some time! Thanks for the laugh and the good content Eck!
Neat video.
