It was still a good performance but man they should’ve picked a different song to do. More Than Survive is like 9 minutes long, and they had to cut it down so drastically (and censor it) that it barely made any sense.

Also yeah Michael is absolutely the best character lol, and Will Roland and George Salazar have great chemistry onstage.

Claudia Cacace's animatic is amazing! However her animatic's audio is from the Original production in New Jersey before it went to broadway

THE CENSORING PLEASEHSHSGSHAH
So his name is Will Roland and yes he was Jared in DEH. This is the Broadway cast which has the songs slightly changed from the original (I think the original was in like 2015 and then in 2018 it got revived off Broadway and was then either the same year or in 2019 moved to Broadway, it got closed though) and you may find some strong opinions about either version so be ready for that. As to what to watch it depends if you want to react to the whole show (Which I would really like to see *wink wink*) I would recommend going in order of the songs as they are (You can probably find that pretty quickly, but if you need help, I'm here), while the show isn't entirely sung-through I feel like you can follow the plot good enough even just through the songs and I can fill in the blanks if it is needed. If you however want to just watch some performances for now then I would definitely recommend: Michael in the bathroom

Again some people (me included) prefer certain versions of the songs more (as in original or Broadway) so while I may say that I'd recommend one version more I think that it's really subjective so just do what you like. Another thing to consider is how hard is it to actually find a performance of that particular song so really just decide what is best in your opinion
Anyway sorry for rambling and I hope I made at least a little bit of sense and was at least a little bit helpful
They really should have picked a different song to do on GMA. This song is normally 9 minutes long and they sensored it SO much

@@rockassassin64 The problem is that normally on these shows, they want to show as many characters as possible. Mostly the main characters and the ensemble. And if they did Michael in the bathroom, they would only see Michael as a character. Plus, even though the performance is really emotional, I think its not the best to use a song like that for a show like this. I probably would have picked halloween or smartphone hour but I dont know how they cut the songs so maybe they wouldnt have worked either.
@@shy8311 yeah that's fair I'm trying to think of a shorter Ensemble song in the show that isn't the finale song Miss be there are a lot of Ensemble songs in the show call log them are really big numbers
Im so glad you're reacting to this! I was lucky enough to see the Off-Broadway production in 2018, and it was an amazing experience (And the only broadway/off-Broadway show I've ever been too). The cast were brilliant and so nice, I highly recommend this show!!
My favorite line of the song is "mY nOtHeRs WoUlD bE tHrIlLeD!!"
So everyone's going to say Michael's the best character and he is amazing but Christine and Brooke have always had my heart and all of their songs slap.
dear evan hansen came before this performance :) also i think this performance is great, but i'm just... not that into it because SO much of the song was cut out! lol. you've probably seen in the comments of others, but they censored and cut out a lot, and if i'm not mistaken it's also sped up. i think it would be great for you to react to a different performance if you're interested in the show! the show has a LOT of big numbers so that's great too.

Briefly perused the comments, so I thought I'd make a few comments:
1. This is indeed the first number of the show. As said, it's been truncated a little, and censored. The first line (the one about "this website") really does set the tone for the whole musical, though, so I recommend you track down a recording of the song. Either the original cast or original Broadway cast.
2. As the host said before the act, the musical was first performed in 2015 in Two Rivers Theatre in New Jersey. It had a limited release and died pretty unceremoniously until it got a sudden surge in popularity in 2017. No one is certain how it suddenly blew up, but the popularity of the song and total lack of information on it let to a ravenous fanbase.
3. I think people have said already, but the Broadway version came out after Dear Evan Hansen. It was 2018 when Will Rolland took the role for an off-Broadway limited run that was constantly sold out. That's what led to it moving to Broadway. Sadly, it was pretty short-lived, and it was only officially open from March to August, I believe.
4. Just an interesting note to follow on point 2, half of the on-stage cast (a scant 10 people total) were in both the 2015 and 2019 productions. George Salazar, the guy in the red hoodie, is probably 90% of the reason this show became so popular.
5. You were pretty close in your initial prediction of what the song would be about. Jeremy is the uptight one, nervous and self-conscious about everything. Michael, his best friend, is pretty laid-back. However, Jeremy doesn't need the pep talk as you saw; he wants to More Than Survive, but he has no idea how.

I saw this musical live with my dad, it was an amazing experience! Definitely my favorite musical.
Oh yeah this show has a ton of large numbers that you would love the full version of this song, the Halloween party song, cell phone hour and a lot more I want to say about half the songs are like big Ensemble pieces
