      Power supply is definitely a concern, but you can snag an ok one for sub 70 bucks. These aren't meant to be a replacement necessarily to a custom pc, and oem parts will always be limited opposed to building. But for some they get the job done and that's all that matters. You hit a brick wall definitely modding these and making an upgrade path. But some don't need those features or expansion and just want a simple solution for their couple games they like to lpay

    Smart move to go with Intel, since Ryzen based ones are locked out of SAM. Another thing to look out for is although you can upgrade to higher speeds of RAM, they run at JEDEC timings CL22🤢. You can get really creative with adding storage:
    A 3.5 can be mounted behind the front fascia, a 2.5 underneath the black metal tray that was removed, or go with an NVMe via expansion cards. Of course fans can attach to those same points.

    Great video for those out there who might be intimidated by upgrading a PC or of course building their own, though as a personal preference I like the double-line Thermal Pasting method for Alder Lake as well as the criss-cross mounting though for this cooler and a locked CPU it shouldn't matter a ton. I also felt more suspense than I should've when watching Jack and Matt barely squeezing the RX 6600 into the PCIe of that practically SFF chassis. I gotta say even though I despise the torx-flathead screws HP uses I gotta hand it to them for putting in efficient PSUs that have enough wattage to handle any sort of reasonable upgrades as opposed to Dell and the piddly wattage on their Inspiron lineup for example.

    • @darthwiizius
      @darthwiizius Год назад +1

      Having an 8 pin PCIe cable in a budget friendly prebuilt also helps, no need to jerry rig power from the SATA connector so you can still add in a 2.5 SSD. By the time you sell off or reuse the old parts this cheeky upgrade makes for an affordable and pretty nice and tidy looking gaming PC for 1080P AAA gaming. It's more or less the same as my PC except I'm on Zen 3 and use a 2060Super. I anyone is worried about the PSU they can always put in a small undervolt to lower consumption a bit but AMD only suggest a 300W PSU for this card anyhoo so there's enough headroom in the fitted PSU to be confident it'll last for years.

      TDP is not directly reflective of the actual power draw of the chip, I think the 6600 is based on a mobile chip so it runs on very low power draw hence AMD suggesting it can run safely on a 300W PSU compared to the 450W they suggest for the 6700.

    Great upgrade tutorial, I was surprised the PSU didn't have to be upgraded but was pleasently proved wrong. The intel F chips and the 6600 are both energy efficient.
    I agree that the upgrade parts you used were as far as I would go, looking at the GPU temps in some of the gameplay it was getting a bit toasty (see what I did there!). The cooling is one poor aspect of the prebuilt that you can't really do anything about. For this reason any further upgrade would need both a PSU and case upgrade as well, in which case you are upgrading so much you might as well sell the computer and build a new one from scratch.

    question does the Victus use a Standard size ATX power supply unit or is it some weird HP pos sub-standard proprietary size PSU? Because if it standard you could fairly easily upgrade the PSU allowing a faster CPU & GPU combos if they fit.

    • @darthwiizius

      HP propriety PSU with propriety PCB power socket. You can get some fitable good PSUs and use an adapter but it seems a bit overkill especially on a PCB with more power limitations than a half reasonable custom build PCB.

      Do the RAM first, just wack a cheap 16GB CL16 kit in it and you'll get an instant boost in a lot of games from the dual channel. After that most of the next increase in performance (the biggest overall) will come from the GPU upgrade. I'd probably leave the CPU until they start getting cheap on the used market or in a clearance.

    • @leruty

      CL16 is so cheap now there's no reason not to, those cl22 timings will hold back the CPU. I picked up a used kit of cl16 with flashing lights on it the other day, Kingston Fury or Hyper X, can't remember and don't care once it's in and working, for £20.

      @@juke99
      If it's the same speed and timings it should work regardless of branding and it would still be better than running it single channel, it's best to stick with identical pairs because outside of the XMP boost speed base speeds and timings can vary. The dual channel part is the most important part but AM4 systems are a bit sensitive to RAM speed so below 3200mhz you do get a bit of a drop off, though not normally as much as running single channel.

    Very interesting. I currently have a HP Pavilion TG01 with a Ryzen 3 5300G and 400w power supply. I've been tempted to upgrade my graphics card but not sure if the power supply can handle something like the RTX 2060 or the RX 6600.

      should be fine, I have a similar HP computer but its intel based its even a tg01 model and i think mine might have the 500 watt psu and has dual 6+2 pin connectors or dual 8 pins whichever way you want to look at it) but the easiest way to tell if it will run a 6600(which is like 25 watts more power efficient and beats the 2060 in all gaming test , just look at the power draw of the card its currectly using compared to like an rx 6600(even though techpowerup says the 6600 is a 124watt card its 100 wats under full load on stock settings it never pulls over 100 watts)and it can be bought brand new for 239 from bestbuy which is like the biggest plus. also i turned up the resolution to 4k when he was looking at the side of the power supply and they only have a 350 watt one in it
