I’ve been self employed now for 20 years and have found out that as much as you look after customers, that time your unavailable, away on holiday and they get someone else you won’t hear from them again, happened a few times now for customers I’d had for years, so now I won’t put off a day out with the family for work.
Great video, actually I never knew they went on the outside as well you learn something new every day, makes sense they go on outside so customer can see them but they still might not have a clue so. Keep up the good work, nice job sorting that spaghetti sink waste out, looks more like it now.
Always good to have new customers, great work again Mark. As a non plumber you always seem to make it look easy, press fit earned its keep again, with that water passing 👍
Great video again you certainly are a dedicated Plumber to your customers. They are so grateful to have you that’s what is all about networking. Thanks again.
15:22 been working in Germany as a plumber for the last 8 years now and we’ve been predominantly using press fittings, soldering is unfortunately a thing of the past, what I would say is good practice though is marking the pipe so you know the fittings are on properly and you don’t have to worry that they’ve slipped one way or another
Iteresting to see the bung on the outside. Might there be a chance it could work loose? I fit the bung up into the spigot and when its taken off you can see the bung. Also I use swept elbows when possible for better flow.
Thanks for that, Mark: a tidy couple of jobs. The weird thing about those hose spigots is that all the manufacturers seem to have gone out of their way to provide a bung that fits equally well inside and outside. I think they just like stirring up trouble!
Hi Mark, another great film thank you, yep bung on the outside for me, so it can clearly be seen by all. Press fit to the rescue again, I do like it in the right situation, nice jobs and both well done. Take care and have a great week, regards Chris. 👍👍👍
Isn't it better to have a compression connection on the last point before the exit so the whole waste system can be removed if needed later without having to cut?
It's interesting that the dishwasher "bung" has an open end, also a trap for each basin is different from the way it's done here in North America. here you cut the end of the "bung" when you are installing the dishwasher.
Got a call from 7 customers in a week all in the same mill conversion where the bungs had been fitted on the inside and once the washers started draining they either tripped out or flooded the flat. Had a full day then of going round about 30 new flats sorting them out 😂😂
Absolute nice one, MJ. Oooohhh, those ones....relaxing at home, on the move with someone, friends or family, and the phone goes. Nice if not urgent, but when it is, you have to go, like a superhero. Thing is, if it's a repeat customer, someone recommended you, or they got your number off the van, they want something NOW, and if you can't make it, someone else will. But i do like helping when people are in urgent or dire need, you solve it, they're praising you and I try not to smile because it's a job done and you're looking good. Like the double traps, looking lovely compared to the previous mechanical bits. Mechanical ones, they work, they work, fine, but my preference is the traps. The bung question - has to go on the outside for me, for the very reason you said. More likely to be missed inside, I don't see why it's not recommended on the outside. That last job, connecting the feed together without the softener, absolute dream job. So straightforward, sometimes I'm thinking 'what have I missed? What can go wrong?'. Sometimes too smooth to call.👍👍👍
Interested, why didn't you fit a 1 and a half drainer kit? That would have been a simple fix into the 40 mm wouldn't. Just a query buddy out of interest, love all your videos, learnt loads. Keep em coming
Being a bit of a saddo, I did a little experiment once ie 2 traps vs 1 trap (both mcalpine kits). Customer had complained that smaller sink was draining more slowly after I put 2 traps on. Sure enough it drained 50% quicker when I changed it back to 1 trap. Only reason I could think of was the single overflow hole acts as an airflow inlet/outlet for both sinks. And so doesn't work properly if they both have traps on? Anyway it looks a lot better than the IKEA gubbins. 😂
"Me and the Mrs were getting ready to go out for a meal and a drink, then the phone rang!" ..... Looks like you were saved by the bell Mark, you workaholic! Great vid mate.
Good question….. I have a few people locally I can ask to cover the job and visa versa if they are away. That’s why it’s key to build good friends locally in the same trade👍🏼👍🏼
These pipes were push all the way in, you get a feel for it. However yes if the pipes are not marked and there’s an issue it would be a get out for the warrenty
@MJTiffPlumbing plumber here to mate. Did a lot of domestic work but know only do repairs on large blocks of flats no more num nut home owners to deal with
@@MJTiffPlumbing Medway, Kent (Southern Water). The water compared to where i used to live (Thames Water) is much softer already. Why not just replace the vertical pipe that was leaking as it was, I don't understand what benefit has been achieved for rebuilding the whole thing other than to inflate the bill. Yeah it's not best practice the way it was originally but it would have worked if the leak was just fixed which would have been a 5 minute job
You’ve asked a question, then assumed I did it to inflate the price…. Then answered the question yourself 🤣🤦🏻♂️🙄🙄…… I’m now even going to bother replying with an answer….. 👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing what do you mean you aren't going to answer? You replied and liked your own comment, who does that... Why did you replace all this unnecessary stuff? That's all you have to answer, your reason for replacing all this stuff when there was no need to, why did you do it? The customer had a leak which could have been fixed for 5 quid of parts on 5 minutes, but instead you have replaced 100 quid of parts with god knows how much labour costs for literally 0 reason! If you’re paying £100 for 2 traps and a bit of waste pipe you need to find a new merchant mate..🤣 Also yes I like my own comment….. if you knew how RUclips works you would understand… It’s the fact you made a statement saying I was trying to inflate the price….. Plumbing basics in this video....but what would you do???
Bung outside or inside....... The biggest plumbing debate there is....
Always outside for me, sen too many people connect appliances without realising there is a cap in there
I’ve been self employed now for 20 years and have found out that as much as you look after customers, that time your unavailable, away on holiday and they get someone else you won’t hear from them again, happened a few times now for customers I’d had for years, so now I won’t put off a day out with the family for work.
Yer I k ow what you mean….. I have a great customer base but I have had that over the years
Same here. Bent over backwards in the past and as you say the one time you’re not available you’re history.

Always good to have new customers, great work again Mark. As a non plumber you always seem to make it look easy, press fit earned its keep again, with that water passing 👍
Thanks Keith…. Yep a very very happy new customer.
Pressfit was a godsend that day with the passing stoptap👍🏼
Another splendid job Mark. That was a strange waste configuration originally, but it looks 100% better now and easier to maintain 🙂👍
Yer it’s a setup that is avalible from places like B&Q and IKEA
