Knowing your value is so important as as trades person especially a self-employed person. Not all plumbers are the same, we each bring our own set of experience and qualities/level of integrity to a job. If you are honest, know your stuff and are conscientious then you should charge accordingly. I don’t charge an hourly rate anymore and haven’t for a while… you don’t want to be punished for being more efficient! The changes we make to a property are there for many years… not 2 hours. If I ever feel undervalued before I’ve even started the job then I won’t do it. All the best to you all! Know your worth!

Has the other plumber been paid for the work hes done, is that why they cant get hold of him.
Id be very cautious, you know we have to be detectives in this game, theres a lot of people out there that try it on.

Hi Mark. I'm not a tradesman, but I am having a lot of work done on my house at the moment. If you quoted me £300 for that job, I'd think that was reasonable. Fully support local trade people. It's not like buying something that has been manufactured... you guys go into jobs and use your experience and knowledge to make things work. That's what we pay for 👍

On a big house now a days I fit a filling loop up in the loft by the tank and a gate valve . Turn off the gate valve to the tank , speed fit on vent and then turn on filling loop . Works every time . I was caught out on a huge job years ago and I was there for hours trying to full this system. For the time it takes to cut in a loop it's well worth it . Also if you work there again it's a nice thing to have in place .

As an estate manager for 50 properties in the south east UK I'd be biting your hand off to come and get the system up and running at that price (and be extremely thankful that I managed to get hold of a reliable tradesman). I would probably also accept a quote of £250 to do the rad/TRV installs and system fill, but have to accept a caveat of additional charges by the hour to rectify faults exposed on the system you had no direct influence on. Either way if you did the job, it would certainly be followed up with a case of beer as a thanks for getting me out a situation and to keep you sweet for further work! Great vid Mark :)

Would like to speak about my experience. I had a guy from same country as me and he gave me a quote for bathroom pipe work without Doing anything on walls and toilet. I wanted to exchange place of the bath ,sink and the electric shower. Also, to put a new towel radiator as replacing the old one . I wanted to keep the pipes as they are for the towel radiator and use elbow to connect it. He had to do extension of pipes and to connect the taps etc. He asked for £900 including all the pipes and stuff he needed. I found it quite expensive and decided doing it myself. I bought everything I needed for £230 and I found the installation quite easy and actually I am enjoying it. Thanks for the good videos and the information about prices etc.

To move radiator i used to allow 4 hrs, then an extra 1hr for extra radiators, we only charged a hourly rate if the job was to run over a few days. Plus we have mainly sealed systems.
Prices have since gone up and now its around $240.$250 call out and At least $140 p/hr

Level 2 in training, handyman soloists. I would say £200 (£30 per TRV+£70 per rad) + parts. Strictly - no warranty on other guy's system, only on my workmanship. Invoiced. Hmmm - lots to learn, then... But when I say £150 for the fully tiled bathtub tap change 40 miles away, customer says I'm too expensive. I drained the system before he came round. Told them I wanted it brass capped off. The guy turned up and said he doesn’t bother with olives and just hacksaws the pipe below. Then puts plastic caps on try’s to fill the system but both start to drip, so has to drain system again then can’t find 10mm brass caps in van and drives off for 40mins. There are a large number of trades people who undervalue themselves, then it makes those that charge reasonable prices look expensive.
Considering there is a shortage of trades people, then trades people really shouldn't be discounting their prices. I know good trades people working all hours, not because they hate going home, but because they need the money. When I've questioned what they charge, it becomes clear that they are undervaluing their skills and not charging enough.
Some trades people are really good at what they do, but some are not so good at running a business.

If you're still going hammer and tongs 90 mins later like me then it's still £100. Some you win some you lose but a happy customer means repeat business and you hopefully claw back your losses on the next shift. Karma and all that jazz.

Hi Mark, Coming at you from Sydney, Australia
Im a Plumber myself 300 pound sounds about right converted to AUD, here in Sydney it would probably be a fair bit more considering that our prices for copper and materials are dear.
Love your content mate keep doing what you do!

@@MJTiffPlumbing honestly, when I bought the Rothenberger pipe freezer I thought I was probably wasting money, but wow since, it's got me out of a few pickles and saved a lot of time. Also when a customer sees you freeze pipes, the acceptable price in their heads goes way up.

I always estimate , the top of my printed price says estimate .
That’s my get out if anyone says “ but you quoted etc”
I now usually charge £40 an hour if it’s local , £150 for half day , £250 for a one off 8 hour day , when I do my bathroom renovations where I can be on a job for up to 12 days , then I charge £230 per day , plus contingency if estimating . You always have to charge more if you’re back and forth on the same job over a few weeks

If I were the punter I'd like to discuss it with you and probably work on an hourly rate. Regarding the fill first or not I'd simply ask if it were your house how you would like to proceed with it. I just never understand why people don't put corrosion inhibitor in their systems.

For me quoted jobs on the whole are better, I always quote worst case, 90% of the time it's not that bad, hourly is fine though, if a customer queries the quote once I've done I say, would you pay me more if it took longer than I allowed? Great video, top work

  • @wandango5913

If it’s only connecting up then £200, Dave is hanging them, then £50 an hour to sort out any issues with the rest of the system+ the price of TRV’s if they want them

Two rads in a sealed system, normal situation... £150-£200
    Labour only.
    Fab upload.

In my game (Professional Services/Contracting) all work is either Time & Materials (i.e. day rate) or Fixed Outcome, the only way it can be done really as on average the short "money makers" make up for the long, unexpected "money eaters". Seems the same for people in the trade which makes complete sense, a lot of people just don't have any experience or knowledge of how non-salaried roles/jobs work meaning they think you're taking them for a ride!

I just gave a price and that's it, take it or leave it.
If the client was thinking I was to expensive I would try explain the costs but I never accepted clients saying per hour or haggling.
    Your price is your price.

  • @25luchi

Hi Mark, another great video. If I will do this job I will charge around £450 or more . I will explain why, you take a job from someone and you don’t have any idea what situation with the boiler and existing pipe work. £300 is Ok for this job, for two TRV and pipe two radiators with valves. BUT you need to test the system and the boiler and add the inhibitors after. Also don’t forget about the controller and thermostat if it’s work or you need to install the new one. If the costumer accepts the price is Ok if they not accepted the price good luck for them to keep calling for the previous plumber.

  • @davidsurgenor
    @davidsurgenor Год назад +1

Would be doing an air pressure test on the system before installing anything, if the original plumber didn't make all the connections the repair bill for any water leak would eat away any profit on the job. Its also a good condition of the quote so if it passes the pressure test job is x, if it doesn't then hourly rate to find and fix the original pipework then x to add the new rads.
