    i guess the train speeds were not that high so flat surfaces didnt make much of a difference.
    also flat surfaces are easier to clean and they also provide a more clearer view to the loco pilots.
    now with increasing speeds, the aerodynamic structure will be required to reach and maintain higher speeds.

    Some steps I believe are required to be taken in order to improve the railways :-
    1. Track Upgradation
    2. Efficient and Timely departure and arrival of trains
    3. DFC’s
    4. Track Doubling
    5. Improved Railway Stations
    6. Improving Ticketing System Overall
    7. Separate lines for Cargo Trains and Passenger Trains
    8. Better looking and aerodynamically shaped coaches!
    9. 100% Electrification
    10. Logistics cost should be reduced to a significant amount to improve earnings
    11. Proper fencing around all railway tracks to avoid cattle
    12. Skilled staff and skilled workers to be hired
    These are some steps which can highly improve the efficiency of Indian Railways! And according to me these should be implemented by the 2035 in order to become highly self reliant and to have a improved system of Railways in India!
    Besides all these older coaches and engines should be retired finally these are some of the powerful coaches but it’s time to increase the frequency of the trains rather than carrying 1000’s of passengers at a single time! Quality over Quantity is required now!

    #AskPT isn't most of locomotive around the world are like that with little to less incline, the locos of america and Europe are same as the Indian locos but more sleek because of the better build quality.
    Most of the aerodynamic trains are mostly high-speed trains like shinkansen and vande bharat, which are completely coupled to each other for better aerodynamics. There are train set with power cars at the end (TGV and Acela, they are not emus) but they are also completely coupled to the trains, so i think instead of wasting resources on aerodynamic locomotive we should have more EMUs like vande bharat.

    #AskPT I have heard many times that we don't have the tracks to run high speed trains, we need advancement in tracks. I want to know what type of upgradation we actually need. Since every other country has the same type of iron made tracks, concrete made sleepers than what we need actually???

    • @adityachauhan5781
      @adityachauhan5781 Год назад +6

      The difference isn't that big actually. Most of India's railways have broad gauge tracks, to support more space and weight. Meanwhile in Europe, they use standard gauge tracks, which allow trains to travel at higher speeds. Along with that is the maintenance of the tracks. Since India has the 3rd largest railway network, it would take decades to upgrade the tracks, whereas European countries have small landmasses, so maintenance isn't as expensive or expansive. I can say this as I currently live in Germany, and have travelled in bullet trains of Germany, Spain and Italy.

    • @KarmicVagabond
      @KarmicVagabond Год назад +3

      Welded tracks with no gaps in between to reduce wear & tear of wheels. To prevent buckling due to thermal expansion in summer the tracks should be per-stressed. Moreover angular joints to be provided at places.

    • @geisha-12
      @geisha-12 Год назад +1

      Also, high speed rail network is made without any curves, so a straight line. Also they are made in a separate rail track in Japan which also had a different rail track before bullet train ( narrow gauge). We need to build a completely separate track for high speed that is why it is always expensive and takes time. Europe and Japan built theirs decades ago and hence we can now see their extensive network.

The only way to beat it if you have high speed trains which is priced as 2/3rd a plane's price. There has to be a time : price balance. Currently the trains are all super slow , even the so called premium trains.

    If Indian Railways improve their signaling system in a way so that the trains don't have to slow down/stop every 10-15 min, that itself would reduce travel time drastically. So rather than focusing on aerodynamic trains, IR should first make it possible for trains to run at 80-90 kmph (with required speed reduction at curves) for at least 40-45 minutes.

    • @bowxfire5275
      @bowxfire5275 Год назад +1

      do you know why train delays happen?
      Almost all our tracks if not all have gone above and beyond their train capacity.
      Some lines have gone as much as 150% the amount of trains the tracks were built to handle.
      Thats why govt is building seperate tracks just for goods train. Average speed of goods train in our country is 25kmph.
      Usain bolt's top speed is 43.99 kilometers per hour. Almost 2x the speed of our average goods train. Its a joke currently.
      Passenger trains are given priority whenever there is no place for goods train to run so sometimes goods trains stay on side tracks for 2 days.
      I extremely suggest you to watch the video about "Why is Indian logistics failing against China" By Think School. Most of these things are from that video, I follow other railways content and i think this video is most relevant for this topic.

    I generally consider Indian locos as ugly. It's not abut aerodynamics, but railways haven't heard the word aesthetic before Vande bharat. It wouldn't cost much for IR to build locos in the same proportion of LHB coaches with aerodynaic properties. Even Vande bharat trains run on regualar speeds, so there's no point in investing some 300 cr rupees per trainset when they can build push pull trains with LHB coaches with Vande bharat features and beautiful looking locos on each end. Many European countries still doing it.

    You are comparing Indian locomotives with trainsets from other countries like ICE, TGV, Shinkansen, etc. These are EMU like trainsets with traction motors on multiple coaches (much like our own VB trainsets). High speed trainsets generally have aerodynamic design, sealed gangways, etc which are not possible in a locomotive hauled 20 coach train like we have here in India.
    Check out some Deutsche Bahn locos: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Deutsche_Bahn_AG_locomotives_and_railbuses
    DB 101, DB 143 (DR 243) haul passengers. They don't look too much different from out own WAP-4, 5, 7 locos, and are definitely not very aerodynamic.
    Some from the UK: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Rail_modern_traction_locomotive_classes

    What I dont understand, get the nose-cone manufactured by Tata and Mahindra... kya dikkat hai.. just look at how easily they have mastered the craft of making aero cars, similarly they can also design the loco / train noses ...already FRP nose of vandebharat is being manufactured by a polymer manufacturing company.. where is the issue?

      Considering the ammount of shortage of engineers and how they weren't replenished since 2019, it's these "substandard" engineers keep Indian railway running against all odds

    But isn't WAP-5 and WAP-7 aerodynamic. I mean we did make it after transfer of technology from Switzerland.
    Those locos look Aerodynamic.
    Older electric locomotives and diesel locomotives are non aerodynamic

    I think our recent Wap 5 and Wap 7 locos look modern enough compared to other countries. We just perceive them that they don't look that good because we compare them with High speed trains and not semi high speed trains.
