I've been working in Railways for 4 years. This video is very close to the truth. But there are many more factors related to this. I was a Loco pilot before. The biggest problem is related to the personnel. The toxic work culture effects every level of the employees. Drm ridicules the officers below him and officer berates the lower level workers. There are no managers in Indian Railways, there are 'sahibs' in railways. The British culture is still prevalent. No matter what Ashwini Vaishnaw says, the sahib culture is not going away. I urge the public take more interest in your Railways. Otherwise the accidents like that in Bilaspur will happen more frequently.
@@mominulhussain7684 The recent one. Where one goods train overshoot red signal and hit the goods train standing in Singhpur station. The Loco Pilot and the Assistant Loco pilot of the train were working for 15 hours straight. The accident happened at around 6.45 Am. In our language we call the 3 Am to 7 Am time as the deadly hours. As sleep hits us the most during these hours. After 15 hours of work Lp and Alp quite naturally fell asleep. And as a result it hit the train ahead of them and also hit the goods train on the opposite line. I think both Lp and Alp were dead on spot.

I am Indian and living in China since last 4yrs and travelling in trains almost every second week. And to be surprise for all Indians … I have faced only 1 time that my train was late and it was 15min and talking about speed … you have screen in every coach where you can see the speed and I have never seen any trains going below 160km/hr unless it’s stoppage. And average speed they maintain is around 205km/hr. Now people think that it might be too costly to travel in a bullet train, then one more thing to be surprise of… a nearby city which around 80km cost me 18rmb which is roughly around 200rs. From Shanghai to Qingdao, a distance of 730km(Delhi to Varanasi) will cost you 300rmb equals to 3500 INR and it will take only 4-5hrs.
That's wonderful, can you tell me are you a student or a working professional? How easy or difficult is it to get a Chinese visa? I love China and I would love to know more from you. Cheers.

Well, I am ex-railway personnel and have worked on increasing the speed on the track. In the past few years, railways have been working at a rapid pace, and we were able to raise the speed in my section from 90 to 110 Kmph in two years. The inter-railway rivalry is actually a big problem, the TSR and PSR are going to exist as day-to-day work is very complex and requires a lot of autonomy at lower levels too but many people are against it.
@@JitzyJTBureaucratic hurdles and lack of funds. The railways’ cash flow was negative till Lalu Prasad Yadav’s reign as minister. That was just 20-25 years ago. With DFC and track upgradation/electrification, we will see a significant rise in revenue with which improvements will come. It’s not the employees fault if the management makes questionable decisions. The railways have started tests to increase the MPS in major routes to 130 KPH. It is gradual but in the next decade or so, we will see speeds near 200 KPH quite frequently.
The good thing about the Indian Railways is that while change is slow and gradual, it is still happening. While we can't notice a substantial difference year on year, we can notice significant changes over a span of five years. While good, more changes are necessary to ensure that we keep improving and delivering better quality rail travel to our citizens.
Bhai I work as a section controller in ECR and the biggest reason behind loss in punctuality is the sudden surge of Goods trains. We face pressure from officers who overlook goods traffic to run freight trains ahead of express trains because of economical gain from freight trains as a result of which Mail/Express trains stop at every station and lose punctuality. We even give goods train precedence over MEMU trains
This was not the case few years ago ..as far as I know .. premium trains like shatabd, Rajdhani, Vande Bharat etc used to get highest priorities..why this changed?
Slack time is a big issue, Railway is not updating the time tables of the trains which are running on double line route after upgradation from single line route. For example 22687 MYS-BSB SF Express it is having a lot of slack time between Daund Junction and Manmad junction covering 237 kilometres at an average speed of 38.959 kmph in 6 hours and 5 minutes. This train is also the victim of Inter Division Rivalry as it never reaches it's destination (Varanasi) on time.
Why do you think slack time is a big issue? I plan to do a research on this topic and would appreciate if you would contribute your viewpoints. Can we connect?
@@abhishek56358I would suggest you pick some trains from where my train and track it there are a couple of instances where a train reaches the station before time but stay there because of this slack timing. For example train 12842 of 24 Mar reached bhadrak at 5.17 and departed at 5.45 actual time of arrival is 5.43. IR allocated 2hrs to cross 44km.
The problem is even in 2023, we're still trying to upgrade our Mainlines like Howrah - Chennai, Chennai - Mumbai, Chennai - Bangalore, etc. to 130 kmph... Other important routes like Ahmedabad - Jaipur - Delhi, Delhi - Moradabad - Lucknow, Lucknow - Gorakhpur - Chhapra, Varanasi - Kathihar - NJP - Guwahati, Secunderabad - Wadi, etc. can only achieve 110 kmph... Routes like Howrah - Mumbai and Delhi - Chennai is considered"Class A" line on paper that can handle 160 kmph but in reality trains run at 130 kmph maximum and 110 kmph in some sections... Only Delhi - Mumbai and Kolkata - Delhi routes are being upgraded to 160 kmph while as of April 2023 only Delhi - Agra section can handle 160 kmph top speed...
If we even get Delhi -Mumbai, Delhi - Howrah 160km/hr route by 2024 . That will be a major step as mostly trains run on this route and it covers quite a large distance me as a north indian feels that. South India infrastructure is now developing but its lacks compare to New Delhi. One more thing IR works mostly looks like it wants to connect all places with New Delhi. So we can se North Central Zone has best infrastructure right now
Fault is ours too. We (looking at you kejriwal fans) vote politicians who give freebies/ subsidies for everything rather than seeing what the party has done for long term development. Thus it makes it easy for such parties to know what to focus on.
Ek galti hamari ye bhi he ki ham Pakistan se apne infrastructure compare karte h hame esa na karke hame South Korea or Japan jese desho se compare karna chahiye 😞😞😞
Same thing happened to sampark kranti. Sampark kranti trains has less stoppages than super fast trains except rajdhani. But if you calculate its average speed it is lower than expected.
A new railway route is announced in our area covering 109 kilometres. 3 new railway bridges are being built. I didn't understand why it was taking so long now I understood how massive the issue is
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃 I urge you to please prepare and post video on the actual reasons behind recent train accidents (Bilaspur and now Coromandel Express involving 3 trains). Kindly do full research on what is the actual technical reason / mistake that took place in these accidents. HOW & WHY Indian Railways is running with such less manpower, increasing passenger deaths. I expect to concentrate on these following topics 1. reasons for technical errors, 2. inter-departmental issues, 3. British ruling inside Indian Railways, 4. Railway Board vs Officers vs Supervisors vs Technicians, - Indian Railway Employee
Ashwini Vaishnav is one of the best Railway minister we have got in Indian History, he is not just IITian or IAS officer but also Wharton MBA, and am sure his work will show results in few years, we gotta be patient
There is only one year for next elections Railway minister who did not do these things in last 3 years cannot be expected to do it with only one year left Even though BJP may win next year he may not be railway minister again
Results aane me time lag sakta hai, lekin plan to release kr sakte hai. Abhi tak maine to kuch ni suna ki improvement ke liye kaam ho raha hai. Bas Vande Bharat jaisa khelauna de rahe hai.
And in one of the shots, you saw Rahul Gandhi saying Bullet train kabhi nahin ban ne wala.. That just shows you the mentality of our oldest party. And regarding the inconsistent slack time, I have an even better example. Rourkela - Bhubaneswar Intercity train; while going from Rourkela to Bhubaneswar, it takes 1.5 hours to cross the Dhenkanal - Bhubaneswar section of just 60 kms, but while coming back, it takes 60 mins to cross the same section. I have noticed it in some other trains as well.
No brother, you are just too godi fan to accept the brutal truth...in a country where normal trains can't run properly, there the idea of running bullet train iis crazy ..stop simping Modi and Chaddis and accept the truth...m

One of the reason that is not widely discussed is that IR had shortage of railway lines , due to which congestion in peak hours occur around the station where traffic remains high during peak hour , like varanasi, kanpur line , we tend to increase the no. of train but always remain behind in the no. of Railway Line
illegal chain pulling is also one of the reasons why trains get slowed down and that cascades down to the other trains behind as well , as the tracks are shared . that is one point which normally gets missed. also, its not only the tracks but the whole network like signalling, switches, curves etc etc which affects a train speed.

Ground reality or WhatsApp University mai thoda fark hai bro , mai bahot travel karta hu , reality yeh hai ki trains ki AVG speed kam hai , For example 150 km kie lie 4 hr lagte hai express train ko hamere yha , Baki tumhari icha
I recently travelled in veraval - trivandrum express from Junagadh to Ernakulam (Kochi), it took 42 hours for ~2500 km distance, the average speed is ~60. This train is an express train !!
I am from Bokaro and my father is in Indian Railway, the time you mentioned as 50 mins between Bokaro and Chandrapura is absolutely correct. Trains cover that distance in 10-15 mins at max, rest time the trains wait at station as the arrival time is fixed as that only. Again kahi late ho jaye agar, to fir train ultimately late. Thanks for the video.
I am glad you are choosing unique topics, the problem with current affairs topics is many youtube channels cover them one by one and there is a information overload. it's good to see you choosing the road less travelled. - Your old time subscriber
Brindavan express used to cover the distance from Madras Central to Bangalore City in 4.5 hours in the 1960s. Today, the same train takes 6 hours. And Vande Bharat takes 4.5 hours now :-)
Commenting for better reach/engagement. This is a great video that actually talks about ground reality of Indian Railways, which has become a victim of politics. The average speed, ground reality condition of train rakes and whopping 5-6 hrs delays needs to be portrayed before the world which would atleast bring some shame on the government and they would start improvements ASAP.
Railway Mein Sabse Badi Problem Hain..Jb Train Ka Loco Change Hota Hain Vo Bahut Time Taking Hota Hain..To Hr Ek Train Push Pull Hona Chahiye 4-5 Ghante Aise Hi Kam Hojayenge..because ex. NCR zone(North Central Railway) which is headquarted at prayagraj, has the avg speed of 102 km/h which is highest in india. Its the same delhi-howrah route, busiest in india...but still fastest✊
If you’re comparing with china then compare it with area as well Average speed of train is dependent upon the speed of train/ area covered India mein her thode distance k baad koi village ya koi district aata hai bcoz of train has to dec its speed either to stop in that station or to avoid any collision but in china there is nothing like that. If you really want, then compare the cost and people travelling in train between both the countries. India mein train mein travelling cost kitni hai aur china mein kitni hai. And don’t mind there are countries where the price of cost of flight is way much cheaper than train and for them travelling in train is a luxury. Note: If you want to grow then never focus on problem. Target on the solution. Provide the solution.
From delhi to bihar no single train has tickets available even I'm book in more than 2 months in advance and that trains are also so delays that we can say "Aadmi chand pe pahle pahuche jayega Indian rocket se magar Railways se ghar baad me
in india the cannot force people to sell their land for the project so they have to explain the benefit of the project and their was opposition parties trying to stop the project theirfore land acquisition has taken time till now 100 acquisition has not been done.
I recently went on a train ride from Delhi to Ludhiana on my trip to India. Unfortunately, the only view I could see outside was of either rubbish/trash or farms. Moreover, as u mentioned, the trains are nowhere near as quick as in other countries. India has got to take some serious steps to fix its infrastructure and waste disposal/management system if it wants to gain the respect of Western countries and/or compete with China.I'm jst saying this as a person of Indian origin who wants India and Indians to be respected outside of India as well and the image of India overseas to change. I mean if China can do it, then why can't we?
Country needs massive track upgradation. As we have everything else but the government is interested in showcasing it's starions for votebank but nothing to do with the real issue of upgrading tracks which means upgrading speed 🚄
as a station master, must say that most points were touched upon, while you missed some, unmanned level crossings, wildlife crossings, which more often than not cause a major dent to average speed.. and also incompetent staff, getting jobs through compensation grounds etcetra😅😅
Thats what i had commented. I was looking someone who talks some sensible. Our trains pass through high population density and animal areas. This fellow doesn't know proper things.
Glad you mentioned the point of poor infrastructure. Also the railways are hyping electrification as the next big thing and it will increase the speed by miles, but in reality, they should first focus on upgrading the tracks. there are many section in our Indian railways where electrification had no effect in speed increase just because the tracs themselves do not support high speed. Also the railways should look upon the interzonal politics as well. Many time I have seen train standing outside zonal interchange stations even though platforms are available to take those. this then increase the delays and also the passengers then won't get much time to even buy basic essentials from the station like water and food as the train has to depart as soon as possible in these cases. Plus Railways now days are blindly bringing out trains like Vande Bharat and also reducing the sleeper class coaches without thinking any thing. They don't realize that still majority of our population cannot afford anything more than the sleeper class. Wish they think about this as well
One more problem is train routes are not optimized. We have advanced much in computational technology and we can rely on them to understand better optimized routes for trains. That will not only reduce redundancy but also bring dynamicity with changing travelling pattern around festivals.
Well researched content bro. Still miss the daily affairs videos you used to upload 2-3 years back, it made news interesting for me. But glad that now you have finally found a little bit consistency and the time you take is reflected in the quality of your content. Thanks
Also in local train routes there's a railway station every 2-3 km. How will the average speed of local passenger trains increase when every 2-3 km train stops. The minimum distance between 2 stations should be at least 6km. And we need MEMU units in every local train for fast acceleration. Local trains still run at 70-80km max speed
Hihi and why should local trains be high-speed. And they are used by people as a commuter means ofcourse the stations will be close to eachother. Nhi to what's it's purpose
@@khalidnafees498 Because most local trains are a mean to intercity or satellite city travel, most local train commuters travel within 100kms. It takes 2.5 hours on average to travel 100km in Indian local trains which is a bad time. So a guy that lives 50km away from a city has to travel 1.2 hours just to work in the city, such people would instead choose to settle in the city as 2 hours of commute is a lot. This increases pressure in city residences as more people want to stay rather than commute. Now imagine the time to commute was reduced in half with introduction of high speed local trains now these people can prefer to stay 40-50km away from city and can commute to the city within 30-40 mins for work and come back in reasonable time. This will save city residences and also develop satellite towns which is better for overall development.
@@swarnavasamanta2628 High-speed I get it but you said the stations should have some gap in them. Won't it make difficult for people to reach the stations?? And why not run galloping locals or fast locals which do not stop at every station, that would surely cut down the time. There are already a lot of galloping or fast emu trains but the amount can be increased so that people can find one at all times
@@khalidnafees498 What's the point of having stations with gap of 2km when buses and autos already exists. Trains are meant to commute between large towns and for inter-town commute but for intra-town commute buses, autos, totos, bicycles are more than enough. An extra halt costs the train both time and money.
indian railways debt:- 5-6 billion$ somewhere around 50k cr whereas, chinese railways debt:- As of August 2024, China Railway's debt was $859 billion 72 lakh crore In the first half of 2024, China Railway reported a net profit of 1.7 billion yuan, or $239.6 million. what's the catch where u are investing a trillion$ in railways and earning 200 million$ a quarter
1. This year's budget has some very significant investment in railway infrastructure. 2. Completion of DFC will significantly decrease congestion and improve average speeds. 3. Long term plan of Indian railways seems to be use bullet trains for high speed travel 4. Efforts taken by IR to reduce operational expenses such as introduction of IRCTC trains and construction of captive solar power plants on railway land to decrease cost of power will have long term benefits. On a different note, it is somewhat surprising that for Japan, the separation of the Japanese railways into zones increased its competitiveness while the opposite seems to be true for us.....I think the real reason for our problems is the very extreme amount of centralization of management resulting in very tall hierarchies with many levels (which delays decision making)
For all over devlopment ... whether it is train or anything.. basic good education is the key factor . So , we should increase our budget in educational sector. 💤💤💤
Great research. The things you talked about I have felt myself being a frequent train traveller. Many times i have to wait for a train that would be an hour late or even more. The passengers travelling to intermediate stations never reach on time as u mentioned the cleverness of railways of alloting slack time. All of this needs to be immediately improved. This can cause great convenience to people.
The wisest thing that should be on everyone's mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on the govt. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in Gold, Silver and digital currencies (BTC,ETH.).

Avarage train fair of Indian Railways is also 5 to 10times cheaper than China train.....with increaseing these infrastructure rail have to increase fare which will become a burden for an average Indian..... So we also need to consider this.
You were so right and is was proved in June 23 when CAG call for track and signal upgradation was ignored,it led to biggest rail accident of three trains in Orissa! No more new trains till the track and signal upgradation has been completed. Agree to this absolutely
Speed is not issue, but the time table is main hidden issue, train arrives before time due to speed but cannot leave before given time, so that for 100 km distance still 2 hours required.
Hi! One of the most crucial points you missed is the problem of CRO, Cattle Runover. Lack of Fencing around the tracks leads to many astray cattle getting hit by trains, which would turn into an accident if the train is moving fast enough. I'm sure you might have heard of the Vande Bharats falling victim to CRO. Its a shame that track fencing, something so basic, does not exist. Then again, i have seen people taking Bricks lying beside the tracks, which are to be used for fencing, that too, educated people with vehicles. What can you expect from a public organisation when the people whom it is supposed to serve, are rotten to their core and do not even deserve their services in the first place.
With current standards and pace, it'll take India at least 50 to 60 years to even come close to where China was 10 years ago in terms of speed. And, at least 100 years to get remotely close in terms of cleanliness.
Bro this government is really doing good infrastructure development. They had not announcing new railways but doing on ground work fast.alot of examples can be given about this

My friend had to go to Bombay from Nagpur, so she booked a Howrah-Csmt Duranto which was supposed to come to Ngp @9pm... but it actually came @3.30 Am & reached Mumbai around 4 pm. This is the sad state of Indian Railways.
I used to have a neighbor who was a train driver. We had a god enough relation with them. Whenever he used to go for his job I used to ask him what train he was going to drive and when he would reach the destination. H e was literally never on time. If the train was supposed to leave at 10 am then he would reach the station at 10:30 am. I had once asked him if he had to face penalty because of being late. He told me "I am one of the few people who reach on time (although he has late). My colleagues mostly reach atleast 1 hour after the departing time of the train."
kuch bhi as a locopilot you have to do 8 hour of duty which can be extended to 11 hours not more than that and after that the crew controller has to send a reliever in place of him. after duty 16 hours of rest is must as per railway rule. so the moment your next dity start after rest of 16 hours, crew crontroller prior to 2-3 hours start calling u on your mobile. also u had to undergo certain test like for alcohol, bloop pressure. etc so whatever you are saying is factually incorrect n ha bahut pahle agar hota hoga to chargesheet mila hoga. agar time pe nahi aaye kasm me galti mila to chargesheet milta hai direct increment band, duty pass nahi milta etc.
This is such a lie lol. Indian Railways has many problems , this is not one of them. The guy you mentioned would have lost his job if it really had happened.. Never in the last 20 years has a train in India been late because the loco pilot arrived late , if it happens chargesheet will be filed.
Their are many reasons but most importantly are 1. Illiterate people doing rubbish in railway tracks 2. Cows (leaves on grass field and cause of accident) 3. Chain pulling 4. Railway tracks and management is kind of weak according to each type of train 5. Corrupt politicians
We need special elevated tracks for all highspeed trains just like rrts trains so that all of our highspeed trains can run on their full potential. Trust me then we can build our own trains for 250 kmph and that would be enough for this country
While I agree that in comparison with the countries like China our trains are much slower. But the CAG data is old, trains speed have improved. My hometown is around 180 KM from Delhi. Earlier it used to take 3 Hrs+ till 3-4 years back. Now it takes around 2-2.5 Hrs. So speeds have definitely improved. Moreover after Freight corridors are up and running, speeds of both passenger and freight trains will be improved.
It's not a major difference, maybe there were less obstacles this time around. As a frequent train traveller, I never found my time to be shortened in trains.
@@maxpoweroverdrive i dont know which route you travel. But in general all trains on major routes have better timings now. Btw I dad worked in Indian Railways. I spent my entire life traveling in trains.
I can observe that too. I live in lower Assam. Guwahati is about 100km from our town. Previously we got on the train at about 6 in the morning and reached at 9:30. Now it roughly takes 2 hours 15 min. I have noticed that earlier passenger train's top speed was close to 80kmph. Now it is 95-98kmph. Recently I traveled to Bihar on Northeast Express. The train was late by 1 hr 15min at our boarding station, but surprisingly I reached Patliputra by 20 mins earlier.
As a ex manager in Railways, the problems are very well described and after struggling for 10 years, these are why I left. The solutions however are not. Railways have always made and spent on grandiose plans, thats part of the problem, not solution. The reality is we indians are simply too impatient to nvest efficiently, bring systemic changes, we keep doing jugaad and look for succour from authorities as if rhey are gods, not public representatives doing a job. So capital intensive sectors - PSUs, Railways, Airlines keep getting sold with public waking up once in a while with such videos, seeking a new god, and the problems contimue. This is the elephant in the room.

@Win_King321 he can do this if he can fire people from these govt jobs.
@Win_King321 there is another problem. Infrastructure has to be built more. Cause we have such huge population but sadly people never think abt future
Literally true..
So we can se North Central Zone has best infrastructure right now
its very difficult to upgrade an already existing railway line with traffic. If its a fresh one its very easy.

One of the reason that is not widely discussed is that IR had shortage of railway lines , due to which congestion in peak hours occur around the station where traffic remains high during peak hour , like varanasi, kanpur line , we tend to increase the no. of train but always remain behind in the no. of Railway Line
True
illegal chain pulling is also one of the reasons why trains get slowed down and that cascades down to the other trains behind as well , as the tracks are shared . that is one point which normally gets missed. also, its not only the tracks but the whole network like signalling, switches, curves etc etc which affects a train speed.

Its the same delhi-howrah route, busiest in india...but still fastest✊
If you’re comparing with china then compare it with area as well
Average speed of train is dependent upon the speed of train/ area covered
India mein her thode distance k baad koi village ya koi district aata hai bcoz of train has to dec its speed either to stop in that station or to avoid any collision but in china there is nothing like that.

@@banshkumar3498 right, he touched some major points in the video, but missed these important ones too, that's kind of sad..
Wish they think about this as well
Big fan sir❤
One more problem is train routes are not optimized. We have advanced much in computational technology and we can rely on them to understand better optimized routes for trains. That will not only reduce redundancy but also bring dynamicity with changing travelling pattern around festivals.

@@khalidnafees498 What's the point of having stations with gap of 2km when buses and autos already exists. what's the catch where u are investing a trillion$ in railways and earning 200 million$ a quarter
1. This year's budget has some very significant investment in railway infrastructure.
2. Completion of DFC will significantly decrease congestion and improve average speeds.
3. Long term plan of Indian railways seems to be use bullet trains for high speed travel

What can you expect from a public organisation when the people whom it is supposed to serve, are rotten to their core and do not even deserve their services in the first place.

as a locopilot you have to do 8 hour of duty which can be extended to 11 hours not more than that and after that the crew controller has to send a reliever in place of him. after duty 16 hours of rest is must as per railway rule. so the moment your next dity start after rest of 16 hours, crew crontroller prior to 2-3 hours start calling u on your mobile. also u had to undergo certain test like for alcohol, bloop pressure. etc so whatever you are saying is factually incorrect n ha bahut pahle agar hota hoga to chargesheet mila hoga. agar time pe nahi aaye kasm me galti mila to chargesheet milta hai direct increment band, duty pass nahi milta etc.

AVG speed kya hai wo matter karta hai , journey mai kai baar 100+ jati hai train I know but 250 km ke lia 5 Hr ,wft😢 for express train
KON KON TRAIN MAIN BAITH KAR YEH VIDEO DEKH RAHA HAI 😅😅😅

I think that there are many Railways old and bad maintenance, that make trains go so slow, but this is changing rapidly
