    I have never had the desire to eat an artichoke in all my life, yet here I am at 2 am

    What we do is we brush a little olive oil over the flower once it's pulled apart, sprinkle permesan flakes on top, oven bake it so the leaves crispen up a little and then dip it into some tchiziki sauce. 😁

    The INNER leaves are soft and flavorful... pick of three to six at a time... DO NOT TOSS THEM!
    After eating the inner leaves, remove the most inner "thistle" leaves, then use a tablespoon to carve the remaining thistle from the heart

      Yes! That inner cone is my favorite part! Pull it up and pull the inner baby leaves out, then press the inner cone flat and nibble the bottom edge, which is full meat.

    Sometimes I eat 2 artichokes in a day. I have major stomach problems and artichokes help me.
    I am very careful to remove those hairs not one will you find after I clean a artichoke. It's been 40 years since I had one choke me very uncomfortable. I use half butter and half mayonnaise for dipping . Also I wash and spray water into the inside of the artichoke then wrap 3 wet paper towels around it. Put it in my microwave for 9 to 10 minutes it tastes great.

    That is one huge artichoke!
    Also, I think you're wasting most of it by throwing away those middle leaves, which are the best part of the whole flower!
    Oh and a tip: before boiling it peel the steam (instead of removing it). It tastes so good when the skin is removed, which is very bitter. But the center is just as the core of the artichoke!

    I eat the most of the stem, it’s very tender and buttery.

  • @blanchekonieczka9935
    @blanchekonieczka9935 5 лет назад +4

    Before boiling you're supposed to cut the tips of the leaves off and peel the stem. The inside of the stem is delicious but the skin is tough. When you tossed the stem you threw out some good eating! The inner leaves are tasty too and you tossed them! Rookie mistake! 😂

    • @debbiebriley5523
      @debbiebriley5523 Год назад +1

      You don't have to cut them before boiling them. There is no rule that says you are suppose to do that or peel the stem. It's everyones preference. I boiling them just like she did, less work.

    • @blanchekonieczka9935
      @blanchekonieczka9935 Год назад +1

      @@debbiebriley5523 you're right, you don't have to cut off the tips of the leaves because when you cook them the leaves soften. However she did toss good food by throwing out the stems and the inner leaves. I grew up in a home where we wasted nothing. Not an iota of good food was thrown away. Occasionally I thought my Mom went a little over the top but we learned food was precious and not to be wasted. Some day we may regret throwing good food away when we had it.

    I bought my first artichoke yesterday and it the tip of the leaves are like brown. Will the artichoke taste different if it isn't as green?

    • @HowToMealz
      @HowToMealz  7 лет назад +1

      If the leaf tips are still intact but look discolored, the artichoke may have suffered frost damage, but its quality is still good overall. :)

    • @aquilafish76
      @aquilafish76 6 лет назад

      Brenda she did not cut off tip. Artichokes oxidize quickly and using lemon will eliminate the brown.

      Ini termasuk vegetables. Biasa dipakai makan salad atau buat topping pizza. Atau dimakan gitu saja. Rasanya plain biasa saja. Makanya makannya pakai salad dressing atau yg lainnya yg disebut dip.

    4:01 Of course you could eat the artichoke all yourself. Most of it is inedible plant and what you eat of one artichoke is not much food in the greatest sense.
