On the grim reaper tattoos, how for the first one they said "I can tell you don't love what you do" was rude and uneccesary when they were just supposed to judge the quality of the work, you can see that dude was heartbroken
Ikr it seemed like an intentional disrespectful comments towards someone who has been in the industry longer than he has but with less commercial success than him. Like who tf are you dude to decide how much someone loves what they do?
That tattoo looked amazing too, they just had a bias against it cause it was more stylised and cartoony. They said it’s not adult enough but I know hundreds of adults would love to get that design on them
judges: "why'd you give the pretty girl a scary tattoo??? :(((((" the pretty girl 2 minutes earlier: "this is literally so sick dude i love it thank you"
Ikr, Canvas happiness is really important. They talk about wemon like they all want the same thing. It's okay to want a softer tattoo but that's clearly not what the girl wanted. She was happy with a bolder tattoo
Watching this show as a woman really brings into perspective the misogyny of this show at time… even if the canvas says “oh yea smth badass” and they happen to be a girl the judges are always like “that tatoos so not feminine like are you sure tyats what that cute girl wanted” like what..
Everyone had made a comment on the reaper on the woman so I wanted to point out how disgusting it is to me that Mike would tell Mark he doesn't love what he does just because he didn't like his tattoo. This man has dedicated his life to tattooing and has joined this stressful competition to prove himself...those two things show he clearly loves what he does. Everyone who has ever joined inkmaster clearly loves tattooing. It's one thing to critique a tattoo, but to make a stupid assumption like that is gross to me.
Also the criticism from that judge was entirely personal preference. Obviously you can’t totally divorce your taste from how you analyze things but the grim reaper not looking “adult” enough is not really an objective criticism (like a critique of line, or shading) Just straight up personal preference. A grim reaper can look more cartoony there is nothing inherently wrong with that.
Exactly! It was rude and unnecessarily personal. Pretending that he could somehow give the artist a rather deep personality assessment, based on one piece of art, did not make him look like the "expert judge" that he was clearly trying to portray himself as. Instead, it just highlighted that he had absolutely no idea what he was doing... And that he was a bit of a jackass. Not a great look.
i love how the judges are like "this is a terrible tattoo" to a contestant but then most of the canvases are like "i love this tattoo" it really shows the duality of man
Yea the canvases arent artists dude. An artist will be so much more critical than others. Plus it's on their bodies forever theres a level of please-be-good glasses
judges here specifically look for artistic theory & application. Art has no rules! But it does have a theory! That theory can be used to critique practical applications/artistic knowledge. I totally agree with the duality! The judges are like the hardest art school critics…. I appreciate their expertise for my own application but I also try to separate the ‘critique the canvas’ vs the application onto the canvas. Plus these artists are champs, they pull this stuff from conception to complete tattoo (mostly) within 24 hours, when most artists alone take that long to create a final piece with non-human mediums!! Props to them
The judges give me art school teacher vibes... You might make something super epic that you're really proud of, and everyong likes it, and your teacher is just like "I don't like that green" or "It doesn't fit the theme". It doesn't make the art itself bad, it just means either the judge doesn't like it, or it just didn't fit the objective and theme.
Seriously one of my biggest pet peeves from this show. Doesn’t matter how sick the tattoo is, judges will always hate it if it’s traditionally masculine on a woman. tough to say but honestly having a female canvas for a challenge is a serious handicap, not only do you have to worry about the tattoo quality but also you need to make sure “a pretty girl doesn’t walk out of the tattoo shop a little less pretty”. An actually quote from one of the judges.
Im tired of judges insisting that tattoos on girls have to be soft and girly. like i half expected them to be like, “mAkE tHe PeRmAneNt DeAtH wOuNd MoRe FeMiNiNe"
It’s bad enough when the regular judges do it, but to see a guest judge who is a woman make a negative comment about the design of a tattoo purely because it was on a woman is disgusting.
Can people get it in their heads that not all women like soft and pretty tattoos. I'm sick of the same "It needs to be softer because it's on a female" bs. The lady wanted a grim reaper and last time I checked, reapers aren't exactly the most feminine thing to get.
I have a Skull wearing a Top Hat & smoking. I went to an appt at the hospital. Once the nurse came in to give me my IV , she turned my arm over and gasped ! haha She was like OMG you don't seem like the person who would have a smoking skull on her . You seem like a pretty, polite woman :) haha She INSTANTLY realized the judgment that came out of her mouth and started to stumble an apology .I just laughed :) she was super nice about it. I just loved that she instantly recognized what she said :)
@@test-zg4hv True but if you look at her tattoos she has a lot more feminine tattoos (Which is 1000% okay) so she may have some bias in that. It’s your body, do what you wanna do. Just because they’re considered “feminine” doesn’t mean you can’t have them, I respect you for getting what you want tattooed :)
I’m still a blank canvas myself, but I’m a straight dude with a lot of bad bitch feminine energy, so I really feel your style. Being in touch with both sides is a powerful thing.
I’m a feminine women and I want a Japanese yakuza demon face tattoo. And that Grim Reaper is hella cool… Not everyone wants flowers and cats and something soft looking.
Meanwhile I'm on the exact other side, I'm a man that enjoys soft tattoos, like the paw print of a dog I lost after 11 years. Somehow the tattoo artist didn't go 'but that's too feminine for a male body', they just did it. These double standards are silly, we all like what we like and if the artist gets very close to what we like, then they did good, regardless of gender that received the tattoo..
I know a guy who strictly likes cute and small tattoos. For instance, in his left arm, he has 3 small (in color) dogs running around his arm, and there are dog prints everywhere. It's the cutest thing I have ever seen.
Tbh hate how they are always like "it's on a girl you should have made it prettier/softer" that's not what every girl wants like geez, she saw the design and vibed with it, who are they to chose what should suite a women when she is the ultimate decider on that? lame af cause they always bash the artists for that, I would hate for an artist to go soft on me because of my lady bits.
and the fact that they didn’t say ANYTHING about Jason’s badass grim reaper on his female canvas that wasn’t ‘feminine or soft’ whatsoever baffles me. The judge who said that Cleens tattoo should’ve been ‘soft’ said that Jason’s tattoo was evil and exactly what they’re looking for, such bullshit
They need female judges on there to interrupt and say "so what?" Do they know how many goths and horror fans who are female love tattoos like these? TONS. There isnt one kind of woman that likes only the feminine aesthetic
I absolutely loved Mark Longenecker’s grim reaper tattoo, and felt so bad for him when the judge accused him of “not loving what you do.” That broke me watching it, I can’t even imagine how he must’ve felt :(
I hate how whenever someone does a freaking horrifying and amazing tatoo on a woman they say how terrible and masculine it is. As a woman myself, if I heard someone say that my tatoo needed to be "softer," I would probably punch them in the face and tell them to mind their own business. It's ridiculous! If a girl wants a bad@$$ tatoo, she can get one. These judges make me so frustrated.
@Tim Raymond fair enough, but theyre always commenting about how if its on a girl, it should be feminine. its not a mans choice to decide what a women wants for a tattoo or the other way around
thiiis so much this! And it happens all through out the show, no matter if the tattoo's been good or not. I'm a woman with arms covered in bold and black tattoos, monsters and creatures. and a few cats. there's nothing specifically feminine about them. But they take nothing away from MY expressed femininity.
Theta re so against "cartoony, childish" tattoos like no one gets them outside in the real life industry, while they are the ones I see the most where I live
Telling an artist by looking at ONE piece of their art, and not knowing them at all, that they don’t love what they are doing is a very shitty thing to say. 😡 Communicating that it’s not a great tattoo is enough, the rest was definitely something that guest judge should’ve left out saying.
Yeah that dude shouldn't be there. Being a Gordon Ramsey when there is absolutely no need for one. His insults are so harsh, he's clearly doing it because he's egotistical, not because he wants to actually give criticism. He's there to show his face and get people in his shop with his "higher, refined" opinion.
Judges: Ok guys, today you have to do a horror themed tattoo, we’re expecting very horrifying and scary results. Also judges: Why did you put a scary tattoo on this beautiful lady? :(
it's bc their mostly all guys and guys always do more masculine tattoos bc their men, their mad bc they should be doing a female tattoo. and also it's fake all shows are fake
they say this same stupid shit literally every time it's a woman canvas too, like bro who cares if it looks like what you think should be on a woman's body who tf are you? the client wants what they want

The artist I booked into waited till the day of my appointment to tell me he didn't want to put that on a woman, even though I had been communicating and sending references before my appointment. He wasted 4 hours of my 6 hour slot drawing up something he thought was appropriate. I got a chicken shit outline in what was left of my time. I never went back and got it covered up by another artist who was all about the horror. Looking back, I should have just walked out and not even bothered paying.
I know nothing about tattoos and have none of my own, but Mark's reaper looks like something off the cover of an 80s metal band album. It is an aesthetic that has as much right to exist and be loved as any other, and one that can give warm fuzzy feelings to boot because of the nostalgia factor. Some of the criticisms he got feel very subjective.

Most of these were awesome, why are the judges so nitpicky? That curly hair was perfectly textured idk what they were talking about. Plus the jack-in-the-box one looked so rad and will heal great. They need better judges.

I have a friend that isn't even licensed that does better work than some of the stuff ive seen here. Note that im not saying these are bad, not by any means. They are all skilled with tattooing that's why they have to nitpick to and judge even the littlest mistake or detail if not it would be hard to decide a winner or even not be able to decide a winner or it would go down to the person who had the in their opinion coolest thing to tattoo detail matters in this that's why they nitpick
12:42, I feel bad for that guy, the judge could have said it wasn’t the best work out of him but you should never say that it looks like you don’t love what you do. GRIM REAPER IS NOT “EVIL” NEITHER IS HADES... DEATH IS NOT EVIL. DEATH IS PART OF LIFE. The harbingers of death are GUIDES to the AFTERLIFE. AND THAT IS BEAUTIFUL.
Lord Sakazuki How familiar are you with the song of ilium? the brothers Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon defeated their parents and drew straws to decided who was appointed where. Zeus received the sky, Poseidon the sea, and hades received the underworld, everything that was under the earth.. with a sea of souls in the middle nurtured by Styx. He is actually more perceived as ALTRUISTIC, rather then evil and PASSIVE, rather than destructive. He was cold, and stern, and held everybody accountable to his laws. His house was “always full” but he rarely left and never cared about what happened above, focusing on keeping balance. If you want to worship someone evil, worship Zeus. Zeus has raped and pillaged, and encouraged Hades to kidnap Persephone to be his wife, after telling her mother Demeter that Hades was no “unworthy suitor” written in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter.
Lord Sakazuki hopefully this has educated you on Greek mythology. The Greek actually did not want to speak to much on Hades name not because they feared him, but because they believed that if they did they would bring death sooner upon their loved ones. They knew it was inevitable, and that hades would take them either way, and would guide their souls to the after life, but the Greeks wanted to ensure that their deceased went in the most peaceful way, so they never bothered him. I don’t need to be cute if I’m smart lmao
Lord Sakazuki I just thought of another god you can worship! The Greek god of War, Ares! A violent and untamed God who IS EVIL. he REVELS in BLOOD SHED and DESTRUCTION. He is the personification if BRUTALITY, and BLOODLUST.

Props to them
They have to be professional about it but im just happy that the canvases are happy with them.
My heart dropped when one of the judges said “I can tell you don’t love what you do” that was so messed up.
These judges be like “since it’s a girl you gotta make it more pretty”..... when these girls came in to get HORROR tattoos. Seriously lmao
Yeah, and the girl guest judge has tattoos and it doesn’t look girly. Really hypocritical.
Ugh ik so annoying

Seriously one of my biggest pet peeves from this show. Doesn’t matter how sick the tattoo is, judges will always hate it if it’s traditionally masculine on a woman. tough to say but honestly having a female canvas for a challenge is a serious handicap, not only do you have to worry about the tattoo quality but also you need to make sure “a pretty girl doesn’t walk out of the tattoo shop a little less pretty”. An actually quote from one of the judges.
ugly girls arent real girls.. only good looking girls are worth it
Im tired of judges insisting that tattoos on girls have to be soft and girly. like i half expected them to be like, “mAkE tHe PeRmAneNt DeAtH wOuNd MoRe FeMiNiNe"

Can people get it in their heads that not all women like soft and pretty tattoos. I'm sick of the same "It needs to be softer because it's on a female" bs. The lady wanted a grim reaper and last time I checked, reapers aren't exactly the most feminine thing to get.
Ikr! If I want a grim reaper tattoo or an alien, I don't care if its not feminine its what I would want

I also love how they wanted creativity but pick the most traditional grim reaper as the winner and complain about the creative liberties in the others
They need female judges on there to interrupt and say "so what?" Do they know how many goths and horror fans who are female love tattoos like these? TONS. There isnt one kind of woman that likes only the feminine aesthetic
I absolutely loved Mark Longenecker’s grim reaper tattoo, and felt so bad for him when the judge accused him of “not loving what you do.” That broke me watching it, I can’t even imagine how he must’ve felt :(
I didn’t care for the whole approach taken by the judge in the red shirt. He had a really negative attitude.

Some of the criticisms he got feel very subjective.
Its funny because I've seen some of the judges tattoos and there is barely a difference between what they do and what the contestants do
To be fair, you don’t need to personally be able to do a skill in order to recognize when it’s done well.

Most of these were awesome, why are the judges so nitpicky? That curly hair was perfectly textured idk what they were talking about. Plus the jack-in-the-box one looked so rad and will heal great. They need better judges.
I disagree on the hair being perfectly textured. It could have been a lot more detailed and even the color saturation was a little off. They're nitpicky because lol look at the name of the show. But these people are going for the title of master and need to be able to back that up.
Thought the same thing about the jack-in-the-box one, wasn't bad at all
They are all skilled with tattooing that's why they have to nitpick to and judge even the littlest mistake or detail if not it would be hard to decide a winner or even not be able to decide a winner or it would go down to the person who had the in their opinion coolest thing to tattoo detail matters in this that's why they nitpick
Disagree. They aim to the best and it doesn't look realistic nor well proportionated. They have to study anatomy, textures and color saturation
They never said that it looked bad. *They judged the things that the challenge was a bit harder*
12:42, I feel bad for that guy, the judge could have said it wasn’t the best work out of him but you should never say that it looks like you don’t love what you do. that dude who did the big gaping "wound" on the lady's hip really did do a shit job, and because it's so dark she can't cover it. I feel so bad for her.
I’d be soo mad. It was awful and for life
Clint fucked up a lot of people before he was eliminated
I don't get why they continued to bring him back... I don't think I've seen any thing from him I or the judges liked
It looked like a wolf
the last tattoo is just crazy good . People don't know how hard is to make a portrait with a dynamic pose ... Felt so real just good.
I hate how the judges say “loOk aT hEr FacE and SeE iF it SuiTs hEr” like we’re judging the TATTOO not the person with the tattoo and how it looks on them BRUH
The "Lack of black outline or heavy dark areas" critique on the painterly guy's tattoo were stupid, that tattoo was gorgeous
Even the people who lose this competition are still better than most tattoo artists. It is very very rare that a single artist can master every style of art.
“Marks tattoo is like a used condom hold a sickle” bruh he got me dead on that 😂
The tattoo with the brain and intestines is fucking awesome. Sarah definitely killed this too. LOVE THEM
Jason’s grim reaper tattoo was absolutely incredible. Just looking at it was so creepy and gave me the shivers
Bruh these judges are gonna get punched for their comments some day
Kyle did try Nunez
@@AwkwardBlackGal613 was that real tho
@@Mh-xe1zh of course was real this is "reality" tv ;l
There's a good chance these "critiques" are dubbed in during editing and aren't something the judges tell contestants in person.
"Reality" shows are really fake. A lot of people from similiar shows (think "got talent") say that what's shown on TV isn't anything like what's happening on set. With editing, it's easy to make up storylines/reactions that didn't happen or were completely out of context and change tattoo lighting and framing to make them look better or worse.
that grim reaper taking someone's soul on a girl's back... genius
Even more when you think about that in the Middle Ages the church said that it was a sin to do it from behind 😂
I loved it, it was my favorite lol as someone who dresses as a grim reaper for Halloween I would love that as a tattoo
@@tally9166 wait really?? Lol what an odd thing to consider a sin. Sounds like people back then were really missing out, that’s one of the best positions
@@jeremyroberts8822 Haha yes ;) there's also a reason it's called Missionary style because that was the position the church told people to do😂 everything else was a sin because humans are better than animals or sth haha 😂😂
That's the only good one. The others weren't good.
Cleen’s grim reaper was sick I’d love to wear that
13:31 chris was the only one that didn’t comment about how it looked on a girl.. shame on the judges srsly
Simplification of ink master: women should make cute tattoos
And Man should make manly tattoos
Which is very hypocritical since in the last challenge they love the cartoon zombie on the man which by their definition should have been on a woman.
@@sometimessnarky1642 exactly. Because the guy has kids, it’s “adaptable”. However, a girl wants a sick grim reaper tattoo because that’s her personality, and it “should be softer” just because she’s a woman, even though Clean adapted to exactly want his client wanted, and did a great job with both his artistry and people skills. Wtf.
I'd love to see one of the contestants point out "it's a tattoo on a woman. That makes it a woman's tattoo. It doesn't have to be whatever the cultural idea of 'feminine" if it fits the theme and the canvas is happy."
My parents had 4 kids; 3 daughters and 1 son. They lost my little sisters, Caroline and Kelly. Caroline would be 24 this year, and Kelly would be 20. My mom got a tattoo of a scroll with 4 shooting stars that represent all of us. When I get a tattoo, I'm going to make it in honor of my sisters. I'd give up 50 years of my life to have them back for 5 minutes to hug them and tell them their big sister has never forgotten them.
Something that annoys me is the judges assuming women have to have this flowerdy soft colored tattoo, I’m working on a patchwork sleeve as well as a traditional sleeve and that’s just for my arms. My legs I have nothing planned for them yet but it’s not gonna be girly. Normalize women with “masculine” tattoos.
Facts
Damn they gendering tattoos now
I personally wouldnt want a bloody wound or demon on me as a tattoo but if you do more power to you these look awesome. And screw the judges who say a girl needs a 'femanine' tattoo you get a tattoo of whatever you want and look Badass.
The poor artist at 33:50 🥺 I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child 💔
Me personally, I liked the grim without the face the best. I love how the lantern light reflects onto the grim
Yeah! I really liked that tattoo, that cartoonish style. I would def like it on my skin.
I liked the movement, the way the body seems to kind of sway and that tongue sticking out from the skull on the scythe is so cool.
The only thing I’f change is the eyes, pitch black nothingness would make it look even better but it is great.
I liked it too! I think it's so cool.
GRIM REAPER IS NOT “EVIL” NEITHER IS HADES... DEATH IS NOT EVIL. DEATH IS PART OF LIFE. The harbingers of death are GUIDES to the AFTERLIFE. AND THAT IS BEAUTIFUL.
Fr these people really don’t know what they’re talking about
@Lord Sakazuki “you’re not cute” no one asked? lmfao
Around 30:00 St Marq, Cleen and Bili all did amazing tattoos. They were some of my favorite, I liked all 3
"Because she is a girl it looks a little ugly" Jesus christ
I liked the grim reaper with the yellow outline that all the judges hated. It was verry old school dnd feel, nostalgic and fun
6:49 Man, this is great as a classic horror art style, like the old monster movies; but they didn't accept the style. This is a solid piece

I wouldn't usually consider a grim reaper tattoo, but Jason's was perfectly done, loved it!
