  • @taqueets_

    The Fever were a backdoor and turnover buffet to start that game. It felt like some of Caitlin's teammates were trying to play like Caitlin and were turning the ball over as they tried to make decisions with the ball too quickly and hit passing windows that were already closed or just missed and threw the pass right into a defender's hands. It's not easy to do what Caitlin does lmao, she just makes it look easy a lot of the time. The Fever desperately need some better defenders if they ever want to compete for a championship, because at the end of the day you need to be able to get stops even if you have a generational talent on offense.
    I do hope Caitlin starts feeling more comfortable taking over in scoring droughts more often before things start to balloon too much. That takeover in the 4th quarter was so fun to watch. I'd given up on it being a game in the 2nd half with how they were playing, but she at least made it worth it to keep watching in the end for the entertainment alone.

    • @micdewitt
      @micdewitt  Месяц назад +5

      Yes, that comeback attempt in the 4th reminded me of some of the games earlier in the season when she would wait until they were down before asserting herself that's when we'd get "Iowa CC". Lately she's been doing a better job of balancing it, but this game was a reminder that she can go to that other level pretty much on command. It's doing so when they are up, or when the score is close that I'm really waiting to see. Not only on her part but from her teammates too - don't move out the way when we're down 20 in the 4th and say "go CC", but when we're up 8, it's "everybody eats" (I'm looking at Mitchell there). I want to see those flurries used to bury teams more than just come back.
      Yes they got way too daring with the pass attempts imo too. That was another frustrating part because most of it wasn't like a dribble off the foot or a good defensive play it was a lot of "you didn't even have to try that right there".

    • @taqueets_
      @taqueets_ Месяц назад +4

      @@micdewitt Yes, agreed! I hope Caitlin starts to assert herself more even when they have a lead. I think she wants to earn her teammates trust first before she really starts calling her own number more. She even mentioned wanting to earn their trust in an interview earlier in the season.
      She seems to be aware that there are veterans on the team that have played a certain way before she showed up and she needs to earn their trust before they can truly start playing the fast-paced style she can command so well. I think that's working, there seems to have been a shift over the last handful of games. They're not so hesitant to hand over the ball to her as soon as they get a rebound, even letting her grab it off the boards more to get them into transition quicker. It makes for some really fun offense.
      The team and coach seem to finally be accepting that Cailtin isn't just a cog in a system, she's THE system lol. I think she's started to earn their trust, the next step is Caitlin truly feeling comfortable calling her own number.

    • @chevyyyyyyy
      @chevyyyyyyy Месяц назад

      @@taqueets_ A cog, yes, but the veterans want to maintain the increasingly more difficult to maintain insularity - a warm net -- that they are comfy in; They are fearful of the increased exposure that CC generates to the WNBA because many don’t want their PEDs detected, who is or who is not a woman in the woman’s league (Griner for example), nor the sexual relationships between player to player and player to coach scrutinized, nor any point shaving, nor betting for or against the team investigated. They fear the CC Illumination Effect will reveal their true nature that the public may not want to see which may lead to decreased viewership, leading to decreased merch sales and TV contracts and, basically, less income growth. So I think that vet players and coaches want their club to remain intact even though 50% of the league is dependent on subsidies from men.

    You hit the nail on the head Live Mic. It’s not just “Respect the Game”, but the Fever needs to hire a coach the players can Respect. There is no way in the world anyone can tell me the players on the Fever respect Sides as a coach. The players may like Sides, but I’d bet big shake that there is not much respect for her. The league is full of these low rate so-called coaches who’s basic make up is more so focused on acceptance opposed to quality coaches and real leaders. That is why CC was not invited to play on the Olympic squad. It should be very evident if one has half a brain, when you listen to Sides speak she’s a flaming knuckle head. The players have a higher BB acumen than Sides does, and you can see it during the pre and post game interviews.

    Thoughtful video. As for Mystics loss: in dealing with media, Clark is smart and articulate. Watching her postgame, one senses the care she took responding to questions about lineup. She wisely left some things unsaid - which would have gone to coaching decisions - though she surely had some thoughts.
    As for Rookie of the Year: sure, recognition is great, but she’s got goals for her development as a player and team leader and for her team getting to the next level (e.g., playoffs). Clark has a full plate. (How does she do it, including keeping her composure and dealing with fans and media as if she has time to spare?) ROY decisions are largely out for her control. Pragmatically, Clark might not concern herself with ROY; the recognition may not matter that much (now or as legacy), given who and where she is and where she wants to be. Team USA truly is something, but she’ll either go in place of an injured member or she won’t.
    As for the auditorium atmosphere during the game, that’s something for the franchise to assess.

    They cut the person they need right now, and its going to bite them in the ass. Celeste Taylor and Hull could have been a good defensive combo having 1 on the floor to help. Wheeler, Mitchell, CC, Katie Lou, Smith are not good defenders. I heard about the end of the Chicago game and watched the last 16 second where Mabrey ripped the ball out of Carter hands and threw in the post for the Reese streak. There are unwritten rules in all sports and breaking those rules will come back and bite you. Agree with the take on changing the line up. Why fix something that isn’t broke. The time the game played had an effect, Mystics wanted it more, and lack of transition defense were contributing factors. We are taking the next three, mercury we’ve beat. Tibbetts said he’d put three bodies on CC Lynx have a great defense , but haven’t seen the Fever pace and the game is at home. Dallas, I’ll be at the game so they better win. Turnovers vs assists. Turnovers are typically 1 point per turnover due to 50% shooting percent. An assist is +2 or 3 points . 10 assists are double the value of 10 turnovers. Simply put 10 asssist = 25 points vs 5 turnovers is -5 points. Net total is +20 points. Clark is the goat.

    I was at this game. I’m sure the energy would have been higher at a later game with more adults, but it was still decently loud. I was surprised at how packed it was for a noon weekday game. It was frustrating to watch the first 3 quarters for sure. Caitlin basically took the team on her back in the 4th and said fine, I’ll do it. But with Sides working against her the way she does, I think CC doesn’t get the opportunity to do it until Sides stops forcing her substandard game plans onto the court. Her supposed green light is a lie. Sides is constantly yelling at CC every time she makes a good play that’s not what Sides wants her to do. It’s like lady, your plays don’t work, let your PG do her job and direct the game. You suck at it.
