I'm a big fan of the Stretch 2 XL in G10 and CruWear. Love that knife.
Knifecenter offered a military frame lock a few years back. It was offered in s90v. By far the best Spyderco I’ve ever handled.
Talk about a sprint run..I'd love to have seen it
@@Rollshambothey should bring back the military frame locks
I always wanted this model when i first seriously started the hobby during covid. I got really lucky during a knifejoy drop and snagged one. Not disappointed at all. I was really suspect regarding all of the hype but when I was able to get one and use it I love it. I respect those that have negative comments towards this model (price etc) but I do not regret my purchase. To each his / her own
ROLLSHAMBINO EXCELLENT JOB ON THE VID!!! WELL SAID!!! WAS SO GOOD THAT I HIT PAUSE, GOT UP & GRABBED MY "SWISHY B" & FLIPPED IT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE VIDEO!!! WAS COOL THAT YOU GAVE KNIFE JOY A SHOT OUT AS WELL!!! LOVE YOUR TAKE ON ISH!!!
Absolutely love the slyze bowie... Sold mine for $600 when i purchased it for $170😂
That's one of the reasons why I love these kinds of knives..not sure I'd sell one for that kind of profit though you made out like a bandit🤣
“I love modifying my knives, especially my Spydercos.” Me, too, and I have modified about 50 knives, mostly PM2s and Para 3s, with aftermarket scales clips, backspacers, etc., all still in my collection. Some of them will no doubt be sold, eventually! I don’t particularly like CRK knives. They are unsurpassed in terms of absolute quality, however, I like knives with quick actions, which Reeves knives totally lack. I definitely like the “swish” Bowie!
I've handled this model a few times and always really liked it. However, I never decided to take the plunge because one of my main daily carry knives for years was a large sebenza and I didn't see myself grabbing this over the sebenza when I stepped out of the house. They fill a similar niche and these are user blades. Just having it sit in a collection bag felt like a waste. Considering how rare they are figured it was better for someone else to grab one and hopefully get some use out of it. Ended up getting a different knife for variety's sake.
Yessir i totally agree with the comparison, I would take this over the CRS ! But both are out of my price range!
Despite being a linerlock, my runner up vote for Spydercos Sebenza is the Gayle Bradley 2.
Never tried one, I'll need to change that at some point
It'd be cool as hell if they did a ti frame lock GB2.
Most def. But Chris Reeve only made a few designs and improved them a lot. I own over a hundred of Spydercos and even if they improve most of them, the GB2 is still lacking while remaining in their production line. I love it, it's the most Sebenza like of their knives but they need to put a real detent on it, on some of them it's borderline dangerous. I strengthened every GB2 I got and now they're perfect. PS : the GB1 has a GREAT detent, primary grind do vary tho
@@ramonade_knives Did you just bend the lockbar? Or did you have to deepen the detent hole or something?
Thanks
Thanks for the support!🍻
C Risner cutlery has done that with traditional pocket knife and their slip joints like the Lake Champlain Barlow and Ohio River Jack.
$450 about matches the inflation rate. Check the consumer price index from 2014 to 2024. It may be cheap😊😊
I love wire clips at any price point.
Totally agree with the Sebenza line of thought. I pulled the trigger on a used one and just got it yesterday. Hated the anodization, but love the knife itself. $450 to me is really the top end of what I would pay for one. If you get the chance, get one, but don't pay too much or I think you'll be disappointed.
@@MT-BamBam When you look at what else is being offered throughout the industry at comparable prices, the CRK products are really quite a good value. Made an America means a lot to me, as does the spa service and the lifetime warranty. I topped out at CRK and really appreciate them making true left-hand versions. also: I am in Idaho and I support Idaho companies. 👍🏻🇺🇸 I will occasionally purchase a Spyderco product but only the USA made models.
Legitimate comparison Roll. I wish it was a general release.
I'd love to see a Golden USA compression lock version in g10/s45vn
@@Rollshambo OH YEAH! 💯
I have the swayback. It's so glassy smooth.
This is going to be blasphemous to some people, but I prefer the Spartan Harsey over the Slysz Bowie and the Sebenza.
They’re all excellent knives, but the Spartan just feels best in my hand. The one lopsided comparison in my book is the small Harsey being worlds more comfortable in hand than the small Sebenza
The blade finish on the knife joy just isnt the same. Only reason i never bought the Bowie is because im a lefty, but still kick myself because of the resale. But ill always have my Lefty Sebenza.
I was just struck by the best sort of fan service that Spyderco could do - a “budget” release of the slysz Bowie with a blue G-10 scale and a SPY27 blade for like 275.
Not the best deal in the world, but it would be appealing to a LOT of people and far more affordable.
Absolutely...make it a compression lock from the golden usa factory and let's gooooo
Sebenza invented frame lock and few other things. No way I could confuse the 2. They both are iconic and are copied alot. Seen some good clones of both. That's the ultimate compliment to be knocked off
I just don't understand why this isn't in the permanent line up for Spiderco. It just doesn't make business sense. They would sell bags of them.
Same with the Rubicon
I prefer a finger safe lock so I’ll go with a native 3 or a para 3 instead
I still have my OG. Still amazing.
Owning sebenza and the slyzh bowie....sebenza is better knife. And the Bowie is exccelent knife also, but i prefer the small 31 with black mikarta inlay.
I hate Spyderco for making this knife as a limited edition.
Great video and comparison…
Hey you might be not have noticed yet, but you have a big hole in your blade 😮.
Good video
I'm going to say you are wearing an LSU HOODIE🐅
Its a lakers hoodie I'm a basketball fan 😂
looks great dressed out like this
They should’ve left it in the line. I decided I better get one right when it was discontinued. Then I got on the waiting list two different times with knife joy. They never contacted me. In the meantime I bought a couple of CRK folders. Now I don’t care about the Slysz Bowie especially at $450.00
Its a big price but it's understandable(at least to me) personally I think spyderco should bring it back as a compression lock out of the Golden factory..would have much rather seen that then the bodacious which is really just a slightly modified shaman that we already had😂🍻
@@Rollshambo I forgot to say subbed. I’ve been binging on your videos. You do a hell of a nice job on these. Thanks 👍🏻 The market is absolutely exploding and you do a nice job of helping us keep up with what’s going on.
@rollshambo it's way better than the shaman because they lost the idiotic choil! (Then they added an idiotic price tag:)
@@monkpato they just lowered the price to $225 and a few other models , I saw them over at knife center
@@johngoodwin2734 their website still has the original outrageous price though.
Alright Roll, I'll bite on your thumbnail... I will also join the comments section in a perfectly reasonable and ... oh, right. [I'm kidding guys, we're doing okay]
😂🤣🤣
Although it is a fairly good looking knife, it's a bit too small for my double XL mitts.
While i think $450 is way too much for this knife, i am intrigued enough to ask if this knife will come back into stock?
It is entirely at KnifeJoys mercy since it's their exclusive nobody but KJ knows when they will be done bringing this dead model back to life..kinda makes it fun though..they've never not sold out a run quickly though so I'd imagine unless Spyderco reigns them in to release a new version of it that they'll probably do at least one more
Awesome to see content on these beauty knives!! I own both versions of the slysz bowie. I prefer the xhp version 10 fold. I think the slysz bowie is way better than a crk. Every crk I've ever encountered had started off with early lock up and week or 2 later was at 100% lock up.
Have always passed on it because of lame as heck wire clip and the customs clips still have too much give to them because of original clip mounting design.
I truly regret selling mine smh
Seems like a good EDC but 450 is crazy 😂
This is a phenomenal knife it doesn't matter in cts-xhp or in m390 this is an old beauty.I also have an old discontinued beauty, the K2 in 10v steel and the titanium also has snailtrails and fine scratches because I bought it second hand.Do you know how to remove that scratches and snails?
I like the blade shape. The scale shape is hideous
That sloppy plunge would bug me. Or am i seeing things?
I never understood the sebenza thing. Looks a bit thick bte too. I always end up regrinding most production knives.
@@jusme8060 the plunge grind is the same type of plunge you see on the para 3 and paramilitary 2 .. its basically a cliffs edge, which is great because the abrupt plunge means youre not dependent on a sharpening choil (even though this knife has one) to avoid putting a smile on the edge termination when sharpening - as for being thick behind the edge it cuts about as good as a stock TRM neutron, during the cardboard cut test I did near the end of the video it slid nicely through the material, there are definitely slicier knives out there but this is a fantastic cutter straight outta the box - these are of course just my opinions but you are definitely welcome to your own.. im not trying to sell anyone on a knife they cant buy 99% of the year, just sharing my thoughts and opinions on a piece I really like
Don't like it, but I can appreciate it
This was my worst knife purchase ever. I hate everything about this knife, zero mitigating factors.
Can never beat personal preference but I am curious why you hated it so much😂
@@Rollshambo Perhabs he cut his finger with this knife?)
Is that right? Then give it to me friend!
Uh oh ! Somebody got a boo-boo !……….lol
I’ll buy it if you still have it
$450 for a textureless slab scale frame lock running on washers with a G10 backspacer, a junk pocket clip, and a worthless scale finish: a hard pass on so many levels for me. Your QC9 seems better in every conceivable way for $90 less. Correction: they are contoured, not slab scales.
Slysz bowie is contoured not slab..I'm ok with lack of milling on the scales but would have preferred a stonewash over the plain ano personally
@@Rollshambo I apologize: I didn’t realize that. It was hard to tell from the video, at least for me. I still stand by my statement though.
@knighthrehor2000 no apologies needed! The skin I applied to the scales makes the appearance seem flatter than it is...I love both the QC9 and the slysz bowie..very glad I don't have to choose between them😅 i love all my kids!
@@Rollshambo Absolutely, and unlike your kids, it is okay to admit when you have a favorite! 😆
@knighthrehor2000 shhh...I think they heard you...but I would definitely vote the QC9 into office as one of the best taiwanese made production knives in the last decade...top 5 easily
Sold all my Spyderco besides the lightweight manix and tenacious. They are too expensive for materials and designs are just boring. Chinese markers have stepped up so much that their materials are better for the price
Not a fan of spydercos latest pricing (specifically on their s30v /g10 compositions) but at least on this one I understand why the price is what it is...its the cost of resurrecting a dead model, and placing all the financial burden of doing so on a single retailer...I just got lucky on a drop myself and I have no regrets🍻
I've handled a lot a lot of knives. More than you, the reader, reading this. This Sylsz Bowie is fantastic. Top 5 folders for me. Maybe a mini version would be fun? But dang it's kinda perfect as is. Great review.
I had this and the Southard. The Southard was / is so much more. The fit and finish is soooo much better. Maybe highest quality fish spyderco produced.
Great Knife, I never seen one in person, never even held one. And probably never will. Just place in the pile with overpriced Bechmades. Congrats to anyone that does want one and is able to obtain it.
It was one of my big purchases of 2024 that fulfilled a desire I've had for years😂 it's hard to explain the nuances of why I like it so much but I do
Not a terrible looking knife, but I never go with micarta handle scales, especially at this price point. It's just not a premium handle scale. Plus both dirt and leather EDC belt holders stains and ruins micarta scales way too easily. Learned that the hard way with my Civivi Conspirator.
You may have missed the part of the video where I mentioned that I put a ripps garage tech skin on the scales. They didn't make a micarta version of this knife..its titanium, just wearing a skin for some good grip and to protect the scales until I can get some custom cerakote done, im not really concerned with what happens to the skin I applied to the knife because it's a 25$ placeholder/protector.
Appreciate the reply and clarification, thank you. Really enjoy your content man.@@Rollshambo
@@davidsapir9638 thanks for watching and commenting! I always appreciate the engagement🍻
Spyderco sebenza , please ! You wish ! 😂 over priced shit !!
Horrible in real life action.
Hot spots meager m390
Over rated by spydiots.
Looks like a pile of poo to me
I have many Spydercos and handled one but why pay $450 for a knife that you don't like the finish, pocket clip or back spacer?
I knew about all of those things before I bought it, none of them were deal breakers I'm just nitpicky ..you can change the finish...you can swap a pocket clip (i don't dislike the backspacer it just would have been cool if it had been titanium)...things you can't change that are excellent on this knife include the ergos, the tolerances, the cutting geometry, the bladesteel, the lockup, and the action...
Msrp 500 💀
Since you mentioned the original finish, why not dip it in some winks and stonenwash it? It's what I plan to do to mine. Which I absolutely love. I really don't understand the dislike. I think it's worth every penny.
Ive considered doing that but i also think some custom cerakote work could really be a nice step up.(another 100-150$ though 😬)
