Night Ride - Dec. 31, 1986

Night Ride started in fall, 1984 and operated on Fridays and Saturdays when ISU was in session. New Year's Eve Night Ride was tried twice with financial support from local bars. When several of them did not pay their commitment, it was not run in subsequent years.
This video shows some of the typical situations that occur in Night Ride and how the dispatchers adapt. The second dispatcher was usually a driver that would go out to solve an immediate problem and then a different driver would fill in as the assistant to the dispatcher. Everything was done manually in the era before computers. Multi-tasking was a prime requirement to be a successful dispatcher and Rodney shows how to do that efficiently and with a wonderful sense of humor that relieves the occassionally stressful situations in late night bus service.
