When I saw cats Mr. Mistoffelees broke his ankle about 10 seconds after his first appearance and the transition between him and the understudy was so seamless and they got him off the stage so fast that is wasn't until the next song when I started wondering where the cool looking black and white cat went. We only found out afterwards as the front rows passed us on the way out we heard them say "Did you hear his ankle snap when he landed?" It was a memorable first time to a musical.

They took people from a ton of different productions
The best there is nothing like it and nobody can do better and these days the effort or money just isn't put into things anymore. Back in the 1990s everything was made so perfect and on point that it was all magical that it inspired professionalism in everyone, now how people do things zero professionalism i don't know what happened.

I love that even in full costume you can see how muscular the dancers are. They're lean but you can see that power.. kinda like cats lol. Deceptively powerful

The *best* Munkustrap IMO. He’s so effortlessly feline and his voice is beautiful.

SUCH and underrated and thankless role too! Misto and the Tugger are the flashier roles, but Munkustrap needs to be such a strong dancer, singer, and actor, because he carries a lot of the narrative duties of the show

In the stage play he's so fucken cool and bad ass that Rum Tum muhfucken TUGGER is the one who sings the song about him.

I just love this Misto... Jacob is the best... he's cute and a terrific dancer :D And Misto is my absolute favorite of the whole show... well... Tugger comes a close second favorite

I had this on the special features of the two-disc DVD as a child, and I had a huge crush on the actor who plays Munkistrap, so I would watch this all the time.
I had the VHS of this (because i'm old!) and yeah, this Munkustrap was the reason I wore it out and then upgraded to DVD as soon as it came out.
Michael Gruber. I saw him in a preview for a later musical where he did a number without a shirt, and I could. Not. Even. Deal.

Yeah I kinda had a thing for him. He was my favourite cat. I think i liked how he was second in charge and was so good at looking after everyone.
I really want the entire version of Mungojerrie and Rupleteazer from this recording to come out, hearing a whole verse that isn't in the actual recording in this is so frustrating because i want the whole thing.
Maybe it's in one of the TS Eliot poems? Could try to find it there.

Anyone else love this movie and wish that one day they would go back re-edit and create an extended version. I would love to have all of the parts in full! All of that hard work and so much cut. It’s 2020 and obviously this version is the best, please, give us more of it!

I gotta say, Munkustrap is my favourite costume of the bunch. It looks so dang cool.
This has the best Jemima I’ve ever seen in a Cats show (i’ve pretty much seen them all).
The actress, and the way they did her make up, produces a face so idealistic, naïve, and bright. It adds to the story so much. ❤

My first experience with Cats was actually the 2019 film. I was curious so I watched it. Actually enjoyed it so I watched the 1998 film- I shall never look back upon when I thought the new one was really good. THIS FILM IS A MASTERPIECE! Also going into the 2019 one I thought Mr Mistoffelees would be my fav when it was Rumtumtugger. Then I liked Munkustrap and his design in this one so I thought he’d be my fav. Long story short my favorite character is Skimbleshanks
I fancied Munkustrap when I was a kid (as a cat lol) I loved watching the DVD extras, although I wish they had interviewed the actress who played Victoria and some others

I wish I could thank each and every one of the people who made this VHS film happen because "Cats" was THE defining movie of my childhood. Realistically seen it close to 100 times in my 24yrs and it will forever be the driving force that made me want to be an actor, even before I knew that was my calling❤
My mother said when I was a baby she'd stick me in my high chair crying and put this VHS in and that was that for the next two hours. My eyes wouldn't leave. I'm now 26 and I still sing the songs lol
Cats is one of my favorite musicals, but that being said, I will never see it live. This cast was so good and iconic that I can't bare to see anyone else play those parts, especially Rum Tum Tugger. John Partridge is the only one who can do the part correctly.
These modern productions are all very well

I always thought of The Pekes and the Pollicles as his song. It’s when he most shines. And he’s the story teller, that’s the one where he tells an actual story.

I'm just, Michael Gruber looks so much like Matt Mercer it's insane.
My favorite cat has to be Victoria, even though she has an incredibly minor role (in this, the only valid version of the production). The actress’s dancing is the most beautiful and graceful I’ve ever seen. She expressed the character’s timid nature and blossoming sensuality perfectly without uttering a sound. She didn’t need a song. Her dancing spoke for her.
Best costume has to go to Rumpleteaser though
I can't believe how many people (just like me) say here they wore out their video copies :-) The lovely Sue Jane Tanner on the left of Sir John in the red and white check shirt was always my favourite, so much so that I have "Song For Jellylorum" on one of my older solo albums :-) I've also got a London Program signed by many of the video cast here and it is truly a prized possession :-)

Unfortunately, there isn’t one. It was never released. However, the uncut second half of the Jellicle Ball can be found in the Andrew Lloyd Webber album Unmasked: The Platinum Collection (Deluxe) on iTunes. Hopefully, they’ll released the full, uncut soundtrack one day.

I saw cats at the San Diego California clvic theatre on my birthday last year I like and thank you cats for bringing my birthday into magical it was amazing
My godmother gifted me with seats directly behind the directors' for my Sweet Sixteen. And I had no clue until we actually arrived at the parking lot in front of the theatre. It was truly a magical experience. Who needs a party if they can go and watch CATS?

I hope one day they'll redo the 2019 Cats movie. My problem with the movie wasn't the CGI, it was how they changed the original characters so much, and, How they ruined many of the songs. And, don't get me wrong, All the actors/actress's had amazing voices- but, Their voices just didn't work well (In my opinion) they didn't have the power or, the strength in their voices, what the original cast had. I feel like they should've chosen the original broadway performers. Instead of just choosing the most popular actors, what don't fit the roles at all. _All this is just my personal opinions_
For me, the movie lost the rhythm the stage version has. Many of the songs were different, some were cut, and moving from one song\performance felt disjointed. I might have been able to move past the CGI if the rest of the world around them kept me in. But noticing proportions were off between the cats and the props and such was just the icing on the cake. Felt like a weird dream.

I love this movie and it's so sad that there were parts of many of the big numbers that got cut out that we haven't been able to see. I would pay for an extended version to see everything!

Don't get me wrong, the new Cats movie was ~okay. I don't hate it, like most people. Probably wouldn't watch it again (after the three times I saw in cinema) but the OT3 we got from Vicky, Munk and Misto has been delightful. I'd never choose it over this version. I've watched this DVD of the 1998 production more times than I can count. What I would have loved to see (and what I hope is going to bring a new era to musicals) is what they did for Hamilton (and Newsies!): give us an updated, professionally shot version of the current cast who are doing it every day and who are FANTASTIC at it. There's nothing wrong with the original story.

I watched this video when I was a young lad of 12 after its release on video in 1999 or 2000. That was at the time Cats was the most incredible Broadway show in history. My favorite characters in the show was Munkustrap the gray tabby cast the leader of the tribe and personally my favorite is the magical, the mystical, the marvelous Mr. Mistoffelees the tuxedo cat.
