  • On our many trips to Lee-on-the-Solent I have never managed to visit the Hovercraft museum, not rally Anita's cup of tea, but this time Ollie and I ventured in.
The first hangar is full of hovercraft from the early days of its development.
One could not help feeling that these craft were in poor condition and needed a little TLC, a little shabby. An injection of cash from the lottery fund wouldn't go a miss here, and could mske this into a local touris attraction.
More exhibits outside and then into the second hangar , with the James Bond hovercrafts. Here the display was a little more modern, with a video display showing the hovercraft in action.
Ollie was invited to climb onboard and take his seat in the 007 position, complete with automatic rifle, which clearly made his day.
A small gift shop and cafe completed the tour.
    PS
It cost 15 pounds for the two of us, a senior and a child I think, which seemed a lot. but I guess they need the money for the upkeep.
    Thanks for watching.

Very many years ago (early 1970s?) we took the hovercraft from Ramsgate to Calais with the car. It was a calm & misty morning & the crossing was smooth & fast.

Sadly no more, though we do use the hovercraft from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight. Not quite as big as the Ramsgate to Calais hovercraft, but the only passenger carrying one left.

A very interesting collection, some of it did look a bit tired.
