The story behind this Let's Play is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard. It's been fantastic watching TheRunawaysGuys become more involved with charity work through Colosseum and other sources over the past few years. I hope Andrew's doing well, and I hope they have a chance to catch this series. As another hardcore fan of this game, I know it's gonna be a good one!

This is my favorite portable Mario Party. My favorite console Mario Party is 6. In fact TRG’s Mario Party 6 play through got me to play all the other Mario Parties so that means I’m a little bit biased and think 6 is my absolute favorite

This was my first Mario Party ever, and I loved it! I had fond memories of playing it with my sister in a car ride and we got so mad at each other after it that I didn’t talk with her for the whole day!

I imagine it would be a little hard for her, because I know it would be hard for me if I were placed in a similar situation. But it's just an incident of timing, so nobody is to blame.

I grew up with this game and I love it. This is the best handheld Mario Party game by far. So many memories of bringing this to school and having my friends play along since they all had a DS, so much fun.

I remember playing this all the time when I was a kid. Literally my childhood. Also I knew they were going to do a Mario Party game soon!
This game is my favourite Mario Party and has a very special place in my heart. My Dad bought this for me and my brother after our Grandfather passed away back in '09, so it's got a lot of memories attached to it. Really happy to see TRG playing through it

After an almost 3 year wait, the start of Mario Party DS is finally here. I'm in anticipation for whatever happens for this series. It's a very heartwarming story regarding Andrew and how this series gets it's start. Hopefully he's doing well now and in years to come.

I love this game growing up! The gameplay, the story, the mini games, the and the presentation, it’s criminally underrated.

@Lucas The Phantom Thief I enjoyed MP8 as well, sure the Motion controls were far from perfect, but that’s what makes it unique among other titles in the genre.

This is the mario party my family had in our childhood, its also the game that made me really good at button mashing.
Also got to love only a couple seconds after seeing the intro chugga gets the plot wrong by saying the Food shrunk them,rather than the minimizer staff.

Oh yes! This! This is the epitome of Mario parties! The amount of time I sunk into long car trips with friends playing this game! Not only are the mini games and boards phenomenal, but they all follow an overarching theme that makes the game one of the few with actual continuity. And only needing one cartridge to play with up to 4 people spread across a noisy van made this so easy to play whenever and wherever, while all other Mario parties were tied down to consoles. It even has some mini games unique to the point of being impossible to re-create in any other format! Would I say it's the best Mario party? No, but it is probably one of the most influential Mario parties out of all of them. Time to watch them all have a blast with these fantastic boards!

I am so happy that we’re playing the first (and best) DS version. I played this so much in elementary and middle school. There is one mini game that I permanently beat by setting the highest score the game could register.
It’s awesome Andrew was able to share his wish with so many people through inspiring this let’s play. There are a lot of people who grew up with and loved this one!

This is going to be such a stab of nostalgia for me
FINALLY! The final Mario Party game made by HudsonSoft before it bit the dust.
I personally feel this one is a mix of the N64 and GCN titles with a dash of 8 for good measure. 3 items that function identically to those in 2 and 3, as well as"Hex" items that function as hazards and traps found in GCN titles (namely 6 and 7).
It's good that TRG was able to play it, and hopefully they can get the one rare event that the cartridge owner wasn't able to accomplish.
My first true exposure to this game was actually via a fanfic of sorts. It's gone now, but it can be accessed via the Wayback Machine or a sporking of it on DA. I will not link either of them here, though.
I have some fond memories of playing Mario Party DS, me and my friend would chill on a tree with low branches and play this game, MP2 is still my fav but had some good times with MPDS

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. No hyperbole, this is the best Mario Party to me. And the fact that its multiplayer was trapped on original hardware for so long was a crime.

i personally find it cute that the game where they get shrunk IS THE ONE ON THE DS, you know, the portable one. It's another cute detail in this game i don't think everyone notices.

Fun fact: they DID intend to add multi-cart play, and it’s fully functional! BUT a glitch overwrote the progress of other player’s save files with the host’s progress. Hudson Soft was unable or unwilling to fix this bug in time for release, so they disabled the feature. It’s still hidden in the debug menu, hence hackers can activate it.
Apparently, at the time the cartridge was given, the person’s name was Andrew (male). However, since then, Andrew become a transgender named Amber. That clears the confusion and deadnaming.

Mario Party DS was my all time favorite Mario Party game back then. I used to play this game with my sisters when I was young, I played this nonstop and was addicted to it
It's nice of Emile to squeeze _that_ in some way, since there would otherwise be five million comments saying that he didn't know about it.
Granted, there still will be, but you know.
Also looking forward to this one, out of all the Mario Party games DS is the one I played the most. I didn't unlock everything like Andrew did, but I think I finished the story mode at least.
One of my favorite Mario Party games. There really was so much packed into this game, it was the quintessential portable Mario Party. So many unique modes, both in the context of single player and multiplayer. Can't wait to see you all go over everything this game has to offer!

I remember playing quite a bit of this game when I was younger, trying the story mode without being able to do the boss minigame, but I vividly remember playing a lot of a game mode where you create bridges to reach the center of the board that took most of my playtime

I hope to get this game as a gift this year. I enjoy the whole theme of everything being massive because the playable characters all shrunk. Plus, if I get it, it'll be my first Mario Party game with the traditional gameplay (I've only played Mario Party 9; yes, ridicule me if you want for only playing that).
I think that was the first one with playable Rosalina so it's valid for that 👍
as someone who qualified for make a wish but didnt apply due to (the depression involving possibly dying before my needed lifesaving surgery while not being out as trans yet, possibly being only remembered as someone i wasnt), hearing the story of the make a wish foundation at the start.... i've only heard the first bit of it, but it does warm my heart to know that emile remembers such experiences. rock on, trg.
