The reason Mario gave coins to Toad for the friendship is that the AI will almost ALWAYS default to whoever's in last place for a friendship space, and whoever's in first place for a duel space. The random button works in the same way if a human player hits it. It's not actually random, if you land on a space that gives something good to someone it will default to whoever's in last. While if it's something bad it defaults to whoever's in first.
One thing to also note is that "last place" also means turn order if it comes down to it. Besides the fact that the AI will give the coins to 3rd place if they're in last, if two players are tied for 4th place and the AI lands on the Friendship Space, they will give it to the person who's last in the turn order (or second-to-last if the AI is last in the turn order). Edit: Apparently I have given false information or I really don't remember my days playing Mario Party DS, as the first part of Toadette's Music Room disproved what I just mentioned.

Warp Dice Block (2 coins) Warps you to a random space where no rival is standing, then you can hit a Dice Block. Snag Bag (8 coins) - Lets you steal one random item from a specified rival. Star Pipe (15 coins) - Transports you to the Star. Block Sensor (20 coins) - Reveals a Hidden Block where you land after you move. Grab Bag (25 coins) - Takes away all your current items and gives you a Star Pipe, Block Sensor, and Triple Dice Set. Note: Item prices do not change. Since we're probably not going to get a full story mode in this playthrough, im just gonna do a quick recap of the plot of each board. In this board wiggler sees the mario crew and asks for help defeating the phirana plant thats infested his garden, the whole crew wants to fight him, so they set about collecting power stars to gain the strength to beat him, with the superstar who collected the most getting to challenge them. Honestly learning about the fact that this was going to be peaty phirana makes this plot make a whole lot more sense, i mean why does a gardener like wiggler need help dealing with 1 phirana plant?
@@smashmaster521 Maybe the stars are only able to give power to one person at a time so they have to figure out who should be the one to do it in some way or another? Very arbitrary if true, but that could explain it.

Time for the first diffference in the Korean version of this game: That poker chip minigame straight up doesn't exist in the Korean version due to the ban on gambling. There are several more instances of this that we'll see as we go on.
Something about these old ds games looks so fun. Maybe it's the tiny portability of it all. Don't get me wrong the Switch is quite nice, but the charm of the DS is certainly not replicatable.

The train mini game, as much as like it this game can be hard (or unfair) for the three players depending on the button combination (like A/Y) and the one player only has to mash one button (if I remember correctly). It's quite harsh if the ai is in hard mode. Also love the name Penny Pinchers.
People praise MP2 to high heaven but I think there is an incredibly strong argument for 6 and DS as the best in the entire series. This game is nuts in the best ways

Friend Spaces are hilarious, if a computer lands on them, they will always give the lowest placed option the 5 Coins, so a fourth place Computer will give it to third place! Also I can recognize every mini-game by name alone, and I unlocked EVERY possible Minigame! I just have some extras to get a hold of to 100% the game!
The stars are cracked in this game. I once lost 3 near the end of a multiplayer game (final board to not spoil y’all) and then got them back within like the next turn. My friends weren’t happy watching it
Some of these minigames definitely seem weighted one way or another, but every Mario Party's had that, and plenty more seem pretty fair. Overall, DS seems like a really solid entry in the series, the high-earning mechanics are very interesting additions, despite the small size of the characters, minigames and board, the Coin and Star flow is very high, it's already keeping things interesting.
Speaking of Mario Party videos and Gladjonas, I remember one clip of a speedrun of Mario Party 3. The Wario AI on Waluigi's Island used a Lucky Charm on itself, won 800 coins, and then immediately lost it by detonating the dynamite. One thing that bothers me about Mario Party games post-N64 is that board events aren't impactful anymore. Like instead of forcing you to move to another space, changing movement on the board, or some other gimmicks, you just lose or win coins, making them glorified red and blue spaces. If you got a solid amount of coins, the spaces do absolutely nothing to you or force you to change your plan on the fly.
On this board there's 4 coin based ? space groups and 1 movement one. The flytraps, piranha plant, coin buds, and flowers give you coins and the spring flowers will send you flying. I think one of the boards has 0 coin based ? space groups and 5 movement based ones.
14:46 you forgot to mention that the Minigame features different winning animations than in the other mini games, that it features the one at the beginning of each board.
I love this game too; there was a chalkboard drop minigame and I would consistently get 0.00, it ruled. I guess Superstars has a bit of this game's blood in it though, like jon said; I didn't realize how cheap the items were.

I adore these games as a kid and remember getting trashed in the singleplayer campaign. I was both bad at the game and the fast paced nature made the games never certain until the very end
11:25 I swear that’s the first time I’ve ever seen the 1 player get more than the 3 players in that minigame
Watching you guys play this game reminds me of when I played it as a kid
This game looks like such a fantastic time. Looking forward to seeing you all have a blast here. Nice treat after the last three years.
Gonna need a compilation for every time Jon makes that muffled Waluigi ‘oh yeea’ noise after this is all over
loving Tim's musical numbers
Here's hoping we get to see some team games in the future since the team names are all super fun! Loving this series so far!
Watching MP DS, it looks a lot more fun than I remember it being. I played through story like twice and unlocked... most unlockables I think. Still glad they're playing this.
Time for the first diffference in the Korean version of this game: That poker chip minigame straight up doesn't exist in the Korean version due to the ban on gambling. There are several more instances of this that we'll see as we go on.
13:48
Heads up, the AI is programmed to always give coins to the person in last place.
I remember that train minigame. I can usually imagine Mario being the one controlling the train.
Something about these old ds games looks so fun. Maybe it's the tiny portability of it all. Don't get me wrong the Switch is quite nice, but the charm of the DS is certainly not replicatable.
Toad's on the road to being the best fungi friend ever, it seems. But he'll have to get past Waluigi's onions first!
3:47 - *Track Star*
With a mass collection of A's and old man Steamer as your trusty pards, not even those slippery blue hedgehogs can escape your wrath! Whether it's left or right, you'll give your foes a fright! They'll be chooing their last choo!
7:26 - *Raft Riot*
"Where's the riot?", you may be asking. Well, after some constant bumping with your little rubber rafts, you'll be bound to start one! Speed-enhancing ramps will help you escape the incoming chaos in these treacherous waters, and once you're out of there, you'll get to watch the poor souls get caught in a whirlpool of endless collisions!
10:26 - *Penny Pinchers*
An avalanche of coins and beads is out for your pockets and your cranium! With all these riches and head bruises, you'll make even Wario cry with envy! But do watch your step, for the grabbers waiting below are quite hungry, especially for those folks named Penny.
14:03 - *Shuffleboard Showdown*
It's time to make your buddies eat some chips, like it or not! You'll make their jaws drop with your dauntingly slow bank shots! And if they still protest, chips will rain from the heavens to ensure they get their deliciously painful snack!
Oh my god daily uploads are back for Mario party this is the best
The train mini game, as much as like it this game can be hard (or unfair) for the three players depending on the button combination (like A/Y) and the one player only has to mash one button (if I remember correctly). It's quite harsh if the ai is in hard mode.
Also love the name Penny Pinchers.
I keep forgetting that this game has a "RUN AWAY FROM THE TRAIN" minigame.
My favorite Mario Party still to this day. Never got to do multi-player since I'm a single child and everyone else never wanted to hangout 🙃
People praise MP2 to high heaven but I think there is an incredibly strong argument for 6 and DS as the best in the entire series. This game is nuts in the best ways
I love MP DS. I played it with my sister as a kid and its still my favorite mario party
Emile: The Bonus Stars in this game are Minigame, Happening, Running, Item, Hex, and Friendship.
Also Emile: Lands on a red space in hopes of winning the Red Star.
I just realized, imagine if they chose Daisy for this board. Chugga could have talked about her *flower.*
the items and hexes in mario party ds are so great
Emile: "Imma use this Warp Block to make progress!"
Also Emile: (makes no progress at all)
Thanks for posting this. A bit down hearing about one of my favorite childhood celebrities passed away. This was very good pick me up. Love you, TRG.💚🤍❤❤🖤
My friends weren’t happy watching it
8:00 The map for this minigame looks like a mix between F-Zero and Mario Kart.
I don't know if they bring this up in this part but any games involving casino themes are completely removed in the Korean Releases of this game.
Wait. What?! Seriously?!
Quoting that clip they talked about:
- "SHE JUST GOT 5 STARS IN ONE TURN!!!"
Waluigi: oh yeah!
Holy shit, you got Track Star. Like I said in the first episode, it's one of my favourites.
Countdown to waiting until that Star Block screws over someone or decides a game.
2:20 foreshadowing
Jon's worst enemies, the Star Block and Hexes.
Some of these minigames definitely seem weighted one way or another, but every Mario Party's had that, and plenty more seem pretty fair. Overall, DS seems like a really solid entry in the series, the high-earning mechanics are very interesting additions, despite the small size of the characters, minigames and board, the Coin and Star flow is very high, it's already keeping things interesting.
the economy of this game is so funny, it always makes me laugh
Another misread from Emile with that Warp Dice Block. At least he realized his mistake soon after the fact this time.
The AI will always give Coins to last place when they land on a Friend Space.
Ohhh my friend. Wait until they get to the later boards. >:)
On this board there's 4 coin based ? space groups and 1 movement one. The flytraps, piranha plant, coin buds, and flowers give you coins and the spring flowers will send you flying. I think one of the boards has 0 coin based ? space groups and 5 movement based ones.
Nice to see this again
9:30 Well it looks like Jon has a short problem being burned, LOL.
Tim, I appreciate the "YUMMY!"
The nostalgia is realll
So.... I have a question of will the items that appear between turns 30-50 be gone over? Because there’s no way you’d see them in a 20 turn game.
14:46 you forgot to mention that the Minigame features different winning animations than in the other mini games, that it features the one at the beginning of each board.
Oh god the speedrun video jon is talkng about the daisy getting a those stars absolutely destroying the run
I love this game too; there was a chalkboard drop minigame and I would consistently get 0.00, it ruled.
I guess Superstars has a bit of this game's blood in it though, like jon said; I didn't realize how cheap the items were.
4:30 They're not called the Runaway Guys for nothing
I FUCKING REMEMBER THIS GAME AND HOW ME AND MY SISTER STRUGGLED FOR YEAR TRYING TO DO STORY MODE THIS MAKE ME SO HAPPY SEEING THIS PLAYED
IT'S THE TRAIN FROM MARIO PARTY 2, THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY????
My sis and I joked about how Waluigi's "Oh yeah!" Sounds like "Onion!" We always laughed when we heard it lmaoo
Oh hey! Something I noticed on the 1-v-3 train game: the buffer at the end has the End of Track Device sign from Japan. Random train fact there!
I guess you could say Monty Mole’s prices are *dirt cheap!!*
7:48
chugga: "iit usually is just like 10 seconds of blowing"
