Jon had tweeted that he lost his voice while they were recording a play-through, and once the first video in this Let's Play came out, everyone assumed that it would be his reaction to the lack of a star cap in this board. As DarkAeroWarrior realized, the only other point in the game where this could happen is in Bowser's Pinball Machine. The Bowser Zone section is filled with happening spaces that cause Bowser to shoot what is called a Zero Flame at the unfortunate player. If it manages to hit them, they loose _all_ their coins _and_ *all* their stars. Jon gets sent to the Bowser Zone but escapes it by way of a gold pipe, but everything else in the board goes wrong for him, including the algorithm that the AI abides by when using the snag bag, which is naturally biased against Player 3, the role that Jon fills in almost every play-through that The Runaway Guys do.
Honestly, I think that people get mad at Jon for no reason (For what I saw in the previous episodes). I can understand why he got upset at the misunderstanding about the limit of stars you can buy in one turn. Basically because knowing that would've make him strategizing a little bit different (The posibility of the final five frenzy would make me think about not buying the star in turn 14 and wait to use the pipe if the 5-coin stars get into play) I think that also would apply the rest of the early game when you can consider managing your coins better. Sometimes it's a little frustrating when someone else gets it wrong (Although we all know it was an accident... I suppose lol)
I don't there is a justified reason to be mad at Jon for this. This is some grade-A Mario Party brand bullshit. No one knew of the non-cap for stars and it basically turned a close game to the end into a guaranteed victory for Emile. If I were in Jon shoes, I'd be PISSED. Jon took it quite well, all things considered.
Some people are upset with the guys going through MP Ds however it's not towards Jon but rather Emile since he's been a tad bit spotty with providing the information within this game being wrong about the star limit on this board and also thinking the Grab bag works like an item bag in previous which gives you random items when it actually only gives you a gold pipe, block sensor, and triple dices which makes buying it worth it in some cases

@@anotherjon6997 Yeah, actually you're right about this episode. I honestly think that his reaction (As well as Tim's and Emile's are justified, I would react the same)
Huh to be honest that was a way more calm reaction to the 22 stars than I was expecting. Of course Jon was still angry at Emile for the misinformation even after he said he looked it up.
As well he should be. Dudes a Saint, considering how many times Chugga has "accidently" screwed him over. Once, i can understand. Twice, it happens, three or more?
@@Josh_the_jester Emile explicitly mentioned watching a TAS of this board, in relation to the bee-tapping happening space, and in that TAS they get more than five stars at once. Not only is there evidence, he's WATCHED IT.
When Emile said it was capped at 5 stars on the splurge space a massive grin came up on my face as I remember ending this board one time with +100 stars knowing full well how stupid this board can get.
If Emile being able to buy way more than 5 stars didn't make Jon or our ears burst, then chances are it might have been _those_ five spaces on the final board. *No new minigames this time.*
For those who felt slightly anticlimactic about the reaction to Emile's 22 stars, don’t worry, we still have Bower's Pinball Machine, and you probably know which happening space I'm talking about.
Jon has warned us of this moment on his streams... THE RECKONING is here. (Edit: It’s at 2:15 apparently. But...it doesn't seem so bad... What could've been the REAL reckoning?!)
ATTENTION EVERYONE: on the Super Mario Wiki page for Mario Party DS, it INCORRECTLY states that there's a 5-star limit on this board. But on the page for the board itself, it states that there's no purchase limit on stars DIRECTLY BENEATH to a sentence that says "The player can buy multiple number of stars, similar to Faire Square from Mario Party 6". So it's a combination of the Wiki editors being shit at double-checking, Chugga not doing ENOUGH research, & Chugga not knowing HOW TO READ. Jon was right.
Well, Chugga has, on multiple occasions, stated he never read anything while playing video games when he was a child. I guess some of that tendency stayed with him over the years.
2:15 I feel SOOOOO bad for Jon. I expected him to blow up when Emile made it to the top. He has gotten kicked down so many times this LP. 12:26 Jon has been broken down so hard, he made a pun for Emile. God help us. Welp Kamek’s Library can’t be worse than this for Jon and Tim right? Right?
At this point it's either Kamek's Library and its Neon Heights, separate area shenanigans that causes chaos, or the Bowser Zone. I don't think I'm prepared for either scenario.
@@frankieseward8667 could be. Here's what I'm thinking, I think it's one of two possibilities that happens in either board. Either Jon gets screwed by a mechanic to either board, or they get a game crash and it's the one where it occurs much later in that game.
@@frankieseward8667 I'm betting on Kamek because again Jon seems to actually like the Bowser board even if he thinks the one thing is dumb My only question is What actually causes him to go ballistic Or it was in the second attempt at the board
To be completely honest. In Emile’s defense, the multiple stars is kinda rare. Though it can be pretty common if you have at least 120 coins. Though In the previous part, Emile mentioned that he saw a TAS (tool-assisted super play) of the board and the bee coin collecting minigame. But in that TAS, the user did collect 99 stars. I guess that part left his mind, guess he should’ve done more research.
Multiple/more than 5 stars is not rare at all. The ability to get more than 5 stars on this board when you know how the star splurge space works is practically guaranteed. Not knowing that the star splurge space works like that is absolutely insane with how common it is.
@@genzsavedamerica2234 The stars only costing 5 coins didn't give him the win, if that was the case he'd go to the bonus stars with a 2 or 3 star lead over Jon as he buys 5 stars and Jon buys 2. It did give him 22 stars at once though.
Looking up the gallery section there's actually a secret hint. To get the DK Statue "secret item" in the gallery you need to collect 50 Stars. However as we know from MP6 and MP7 the extra little items like the Miracle Book and the Souvenirs are often glossed over/ignored by the trio so this hint can easily be missed.
Feel that but at the same time when you're trying to do it for the 3rd time you're not reading the text, Emile is button mashing through the text there. If it was first recording then yes I get that but even for the second they're probably not reading the text at all.
First Emile gets to live out his dream of turning down a star and still winning, and now he gets to break Jon's record for the most stars in a single board of Mario Party. Emile's luck must've been stored up since Cvoid, waiting to strike.
@Lucas The Phantom Thief Just wait until they inevitably get together for 9 and 10. Betcha they're gonna drag their heels on that, and who could blame 'em?
@@genzsavedamerica2234 Emile got to play as Bowser one time in a Stream they did with Tom and Masae. Emile lost that round due to getting constant low rolls, even with Bowser's ability to reroll. He wasn't happy whatsoever.
In a tragic case of irony, it ended up being by way of misinterpretation that all three of them were genuinely shocked at. Emile definitely has a bit of guilt in his voice at such a genuine mistake that cost Jon the game, but don't forget that Jon was the one who told Emile to go ahead and purchase those 22 stars in the first place. Had Emile chosen to only buy five stars, I don't think any of them would have celebrated Jon's now-hollow victory, not even Jon himself. I think both that and what actually happened say a lot about their friendships.
As hilarious as *that moment* was, Jon actually seemed to take it really well, and I hope that's genuine. Even something as silly as that could've potentially caused way more salt than it did and even potentially a minor fight. Guess it speaks to the strength of their friendship.
It was only because neither of them knew the actual way the board worked, so it was a surprise for everyone instead of misinformation with intent. A good example of the latter is the Plunder Chest moment from Mario Party 3, Jon did not know how it worked with the bigger inventory but Emile did and did not tell.

Now that they all know there is no limit to star buys on this board and Jon has admitted he'd have played totally differently, I feel like a rematch of this board is deserved.
You know, Saltinius? I would have been 100 percent satisfied if Jon (on the 19th turn out of 20) landed on the Star Block Space and got 3 stars AND dueled Chugga on the final turn. But then again, even if that happened, his chance of getting 3 stars from the Star Block Space AND dueling Chugga for 2 stars each and winning the duel, it still would have costed him the game. Because Jon would have had 18 stars. Chugga, he would have had 24 stars. And even if Jon got all 3 bonus stars (even if he swept all the bonus stars --like the MINIGAME, ITEM, and GREEN STARS), Chugga would have won. There is also NO BOO HOUSE on any board in MARIO PARTY DS either. So I would not have expected Jon to go to one on DK's Stone Statue or any of the 5 playable boards.
@@genzsavedamerica2234 theoretically it's also possible that Chugga lands on it so Jon loses his voice through joy so it's also not a confirmed spoiler.
I feel so bad for both Emile and Jon. Emile was so confident on his claim about only 5 stars and I get it cause it’s Mario Party whose gonna do crazy through research on a party game? It really goes without saying, though wherever he looked should’ve mentioned the fact you could get about 99 stars from it but that’s just me and neither here nor there at this point. As well I feel bad for Jon cause he really did get screwed with that gold pipe thing and not knowning this so his anger is very justified. I’m a little happy to know Chugga didn’t do this on purpose (I mean I know he wouldn’t do that in general of course he’s not that much a troll but still worth mentioning.) and that Jon to a degree took it better than I think a lot of others expected. Sure he yelled but then he swiftly cooled off which was good. Oh yeah and Tim gets screwed over at the end with that duel… this board was not a good board for anybody just to be honest
I'm wondering how on Earth, Emile missed that when doing research for the board. Especially if he uses Super Mario Wiki, which it mentions almost immediately. Not to mention, the board itself NEVER states you can buy only 5 stars at a time, just as much as you can. UPDATE: The wiki was actually updated shortly after this episode came out to more clearly explain that it does not have a cap. 2nd point still stands tho.
He explains it in the video. He checked and the wiki he checked said you could buy multiple stars at once 'similar to Faire Square'. Emile pulled the 5 limit from that association.
2:15 I have no words to describe what just happened. I mean, even though the reaction was big (I was expecting a lot more rage), the fact that there's no limit on buying stars is ludicrous!
Yeah, but Emile explicitly said it was only a maximum of 5 stars, and in Jon or Tim's shoes, I'd trust my friend, and assume that the in-game text is just exaggerated slightly for effect.
I speak for everyone when I say: This Entire Series so Far is literally Just Karma for Jon always winning during entire the GameCube saga og the Channel.
I really gotta give props to Jon for how he handled that. Once he got over the initial surprise and understandable anger, a couple minutes later he was back to just chatting and even making jokes about what happened. The way some comments bitch, you'd think something half this bad would make him quit the entire project and never do TRG again. This is a great counter to people like that - even the average person probably wouldn't have taken it this well. Sorry if this seems patronizing, I'm just genuinely impressed that someone had that much of a middle finger thrown at them and they shrugged it off. Lord knows I couldn't have.
I’m honestly more upset at Emile for not realizing it. He mentioned watching a TAS run where the player got max coins from the bees. Assuming we watched the same run the player also maxed out their stars
2:46 This is the primary reason why I love DK's Stone Statue in Mario Party DS. You can get as many stars on this board as you can afford. It's not like the board Four Square where you can only get up to 5 stars you can get as many stars as you want as long as you can afford them, Emile. That's why when the final five frenzy comes around & it lands on stars for 5 coins you can get a whole lot of stars.
@@ReagentGray There was no bonus star gotten for most stars gained on a board. I was mistaken when I thought that was at play - there’s no star like that in DS.
I know everyone is saying how funny it is with Emile stealing victory from Jon every board and Jon being upset about it, but lets all be honest, Jon isn't the unlucky one here, that award goes to Tim
The comments who talk about potential fights between the group or even disbanding of the group after stuff like this really puzzle me. I can't imagine that Jon and Emile would stop being friends over a mere video game. Have they stated that they've ever considered breaking up on social media or something? Considering how much Jon enjoys hyping up these moments before they post the video, it sure seems like he's taking it in good strides.
Honestly, three boards in and... while I like MPDS, I think it was really designed for a single-player mindset, since it does so many weird choices, and the fact you can just. Get so many stars. And it just shows that with Emile winning by like. An insane amount of stars for the past three boards. It's certainly not a bad game, but not one I'd play with my friends.
And there it is. Chugga realized his mistake and realized there is no limit on stars on this board. It is so broken it’s ridiculous. And Jon’s rage at that is reasonable since 22 stars in one turn is just completely destructive. The next board should be interesting. It’s pure luck based, so I have a feeling I know who may win.
Jon said wow who would have thought Emile would win in such a monotone voice that you could feel his pain and as he says he's just dead inside and laying on the ground right now.
If this isn't where Jon lost his voice I'm thinking it's actually be when Emile gets hit with the zero flame (guessing it's happened near or on the last turn after leading for most if the game and Jon will scream so loud because it didn't happen to him for once
Jon predicts that Emile will lose the board Daisy’s on, I predict Emile will get a clean sweep and Jon will remember how he almost got a clean sweep in Mario Party 4, but Emile prevented that by winning the last board and Jon will just be done with existence.
i honestly think a rematch of this board where everyone understands how the star splurge space works would be awesome: the fact chugga had no idea about it either and it only really came to this thanks to crazy luck with bowser does still make his win here faire and square, but it's obvious the way they play would've been different knowing that going in. it'd be fun and interesting to see how it a game would go down with everyone in on that information, i hope you guys can get another shake on this board someday!
@2:17 Was waiting for this moment, the realization that they could buy more than 5 stars and it happened. Surprised that Jon was more chill than I thought he would be, still angry and cussing but surprisingly calm. (Definitely calmer than Emile's immediate 4 star gain in wigglers garden) This is why in this particular map I would wait until the final 5 frenzy to spend my coins in case the event pops up for stars for 5 coins.
i believe this is the only mario party game ive ever seen where bonus stars had no chance of affecting ANY standings. everyone is minimum 4 stars apart from each other at the end of turn 20 lmfao

I hope they replay this board when they finish playing through the 2 remaining boards so this way they can play with this new info in mind and to show off the brutal AI

I know that Emile puts a lot of effort into researching for his LPs and even the TRG LPs when he knows what he's getting himself into. But the board quite literally says that you can get "As many stars as you'd like" at the start, they played the beginning 3 times, and NO ONE NOTICED. This goes beyond a simple mistake in researching. Also RIP Jon's chance of victory, Emile is gonna clean sweep MPDS and Luigi never had a chance. The amount of mini-games they STILL haven't gotten. They haven't played games like Pedal Pushers, Soccer Survival, Dress for Success, Rail Riders, Shortcut Circuit, Big Blowout, Whomp-a-thon, Twist and Route, Parachutin' Gallery, Boo Tag, Cyber Scamper, Dust Buddies, Sweet Sleuth, Soil Toil, Double Vision, Mole Thrill, Cucumber Jacks, Toppling Terror, Crazy Crosshairs, Short Fuse or Globe Gunners. A lot of those are mini-games that I can't picture a game of MPDS without. They just keep getting Soap Surfers and Shorty Scorers.
The best part of this video is that minutes after uploading, Super Mario Wiki (where Chugga did his research, as what he says in the video is a direct quote from it) was updated to specify what "similar to Faire Square" means. Let this be a lesson: DON"T USE SUPER MARIO WIKI AS YOUR ONLY RESEARCH. Super Mario Wiki is like what teachers said Wikipedia was 10-15 years ago: often wrong & can be edited by anyone.
With most Mario Party games, there always feels like a chance that anyone can win the game out of nowhere, but with this game, when stuff like this happens, it almost feels like it incentives you to turn your DS off cause there's absolutely no way you could ever hope to catch up and you might as well not waste your time.

It's a wiki, you can just edit it. (Which I just did)
That’s pretty funny though how him not knowing resulted in him dominating the board 😂

11:32 There must be something wrong with me because I CANNOT stop laughing at the way Luigi just peaces out
To be completely honest.
Him having that many coins and having stars only cost 5 once again proves his insane luck 🍀
GG to Emile. He got an indomitable lead with those 22 stars.
Of course he is the one who benefits from the stars for 5 coins
they could pull a mp6 faire square where they do separate tallies for with and without that board. Even still Emile has a pretty solid lead

Had Emile chosen to only buy five stars, I don't think any of them would have celebrated Jon's now-hollow victory, not even Jon himself. I think both that and what actually happened say a lot about their friendships.

It was only because neither of them knew the actual way the board worked, so it was a surprise for everyone instead of misinformation with intent.
A good example of the latter is the Plunder Chest moment from Mario Party 3, Jon did not know how it worked with the bigger inventory but Emile did and did not tell.

Sure he yelled but then he swiftly cooled off which was good. Oh yeah and Tim gets screwed over at the end with that duel… this board was not a good board for anybody just to be honest

And there it is. Chugga realized his mistake and realized there is no limit on stars on this board. It is so broken it’s ridiculous.
