I started in the Clinical Psychology and Personality section reading Carl Jung. I actually started with 5. Carl Jung: The Symbolic Life, and within that volume there is a transcript of the Tavistock Lectures (a fantastic place to start with Jung as he clearly and easily explains a lot of his core concepts and ideas). You can check out my latest video on what I've learned from Jung's Tavistock lectures here: ruclips.net/video/TyAPBd93IDo/видео.html I started with that as I found a book of that in a university library (I just sneak in and read the books haha). But since then I have got Carl Jung's collected works as a digital copy and a few of his other books in hard copy. Currently reading Modern Man In Search of A Soul.
Jared, I'm slightly embarrassed to ask this, but what is his eye colour? I just need to know b/c I can't figure it out from the pics and videos. You said you looked deeply into his eyes, so... Thanks man. :)
His eyes are I guess what's called hazel as they are textured with colours, but I remember them having a dark green tinge, at least in the lighting we were in. They had a depth to them with a richly coloured and glassy look. Hazel eyes can often change colours depending on the light, so I guess this is what happens to his eyes? haha!
Your experience talking to him sounds similar to mine. I talked to him last year on Skype when he still was able to schedule some talks with his Patreon supporters. It was surreal, he was so engaged in the conversation as if he had nothing else to do in life than listening to my story and giving me the advice and asked him for. He's an extraordinarily good person who really cares for people
MAN! I wish I had enough money back then to get the Patreon Skype session, I always looked at that and thought to myself, one day... haha! Thanks, heaps for sharing your experience also that's so cool. I've actually seen some people who recorded their Skype session with him, they were always pretty interesting.
I met JP when he was in Denver and was at the end of 150 person meet and greet line. Similar experience. Eye contact, genuine and truly interested in me, as if I was the only person in the room, not the last person in line. He then sat on the end of the stage with feet dangling and engaged us in Q&A. Being about midnight, downtown, back stage door open to the street, it felt as if we were just shootin the breeze on the front porch. Not a shred of prentiousness throughout the entire eveing. I was struck by his kindness. Memorable.
Yes, a lot of people try to turn anything related to Peterson into something political, I don't view him as someone 'trying to be political'. He is a clinical psychologist and I've learned a lot from viewing him in this way, and as just a hard working and intelligent human doing his best to solve problems in the world.
I saw Dr. Peterson perform live in two different cities within 4 days. At the first talk, he said he doesn't like people who listen to him being called "fans" or "followers."
Thanks for your description of being in Jordan Peterson's presence both as a member of the audience and face to face. The commentaries and videos I have seen focus on what Jordan Peterson says or if they focus on his person, they talk about his body language. All the detail you went into, moment by moment, brought to life for me what it is like to be in his presence.
Wow I am very encouraged to read your message. I didn't know no one else was talking about these kinds of details. I thought no one would even watch this video, I cringed at myself as I published it, but I am very glad I did. Thank you!
I have seen a fair number of videos about Jordan Peterson and none have attempted to give a moment by moment description of the impact he had on them. I found the following particularly insightful: (I summarize) He presented the information in a new interesting way. But it wasn’t just the information. You could really feel what he was feeling about his ideas and that gave an added layer of understanding. Because Jordan is super articulate, it's easy to focus only on the ideas. But its not the idea that makes the hero, it's the person. I knew that Jordan Peterson spent some time after his lectures meeting with members of the audience. I was surprised to learn he remained about another 4 ½ hours after the talk. The amount of attention he gave each person as you relate is impressive. You say, he has the kindest eyes and loving demeanour. His voice was strong, but engaged with you. Mentally on the ball but loving. He really cared. You could feel it in the way he shook your hand. His gestures were almost nurturing. Jordan often appears harsh, particularly when dealing with an interviewer that wants to trap him. One wouldn't expect to find a maternal side to him. He has all the male qualities of strength etc. but he also has a big heart. So Jared, you have attempted to something that is very difficult, to talk about your feelings in his presence. And who wouldn't cringe at exposing their personal feelings. But after seeing your video all I can say is Bravo! Stand up straight with your shoulders back!
This was great Jared. I really enjoyed listening to your analysis. I too get that sense from Jordan just from watching his videos! Keep up the great videos.
When you're really there, it just cements in your mind and heart. The experience of being there is just so much more than hearing it in a disconnected way.
Yeah, I've been wondering about Church as I was actually disillusioned from it by my church going parents of all people who realized they were being hypocrites and just "doing the church thing with the church people." So then we started doing "Organic church" which was basically meeting a people's houses and going on outing to either help people or view and pray for the places and people around a city's spots with hardship. But then school and such kicked in a my parents then switched to being the people who go around and shine to their local neighbors and parents of my sibling's teammates. On this wild ride I've now been tasked (probably by the holy spirit) To create an art meetup where I can gather together people who want to create any sort of art and we can all engage in creating it (whether that be reading, writing, composing, ect.) All this is to say I realize the power of meeting in-person, but I'm scared of it at the same time, and don't like the cult-like feeling I sometimes get from it. (even though it's generally very good)
Great Video Jared. I also went to see Dr. JP in person and also stayed for the VIP meet and greet. I spent days conceptualizing a proper, direct and efficient question. I Spent the whole event engaged in every word he was saying because if you listen, truly, he is saying things nobody else is. Very important and meaningful insights. Regardless, I waited in line to engage personally and after all my preparation and anticipation to finally speak with him, I’m honestly embarrassed to say, the only thing I could produce was my appreciation for what he’s done while I lightly wept. I wept, like a child, but only for a moment. I thanked him, and snapped a red eyed photo. I Composed myself went to the end of the line and again waited, question prepared and ready to apologize for my initial reaction because “I’m not that type of person”. And again all I could say was “Thank you” as tears crept from my eyes. I was not able to engage him the way I had been preparing to nor did I get to even explain why I had such an emotional reaction. Critics of DR. JP will assume this type of reaction is “fanatical” but the impact that he has made in my life completely overcame me in that moment and I could do nothing else. I hope this won’t be the last time I have a chance to engage with Dr. Peterson and hope I won’t regret my actions into the future. I would say, if this is a similar reaction for anyone else, take a moment to express why you’ve had that reaction. Appreciate the video Jared. I love to see others engaged with JBP’s works and impact. I plan to begin the readings along with you.
Ian, you have nothing to regret into the future, it all happened simply because that's what you needed to do at the time. Those emotions and feelings needed to be expressed like that. The main thing is his work has impacted you and you are now dealing with inner and outer issues and becoming better and better every day. Your experience is your own personal journey of development and no one can take that away from you. Be compassionate of yourself. I wish you all the very best with becoming who you really are inside. Thanks for sharing your story :-)
Thanks Jared. I may be too hard on my own reaction. It’s difficult being a grown, professional and somewhat put together man, when emotion overcame me, as I don’t believe it ever has in my life, and was the main operating factor that drove my engagement. Strange to say the least. Regarding how he responded... compassionately, unbelievably so. I have to say that if I were approached in a similar manner by a 6ft tall, bearded and crying fellow I don’t believe I could respond so understandingly. He looked at me, He’s obviously been is this situation before as we all know from listening to him speak. He constantly refers to the letters and interactions he has with men, and how “kind and appreciative” they are. I waited the 1.5 hours in line the second time in order to gather myself and take a second swing. JP recognized me from earlier in the evening. I believe he knew I had so much more to say but couldn’t, he didn’t break eye contact with me, he didn’t let go of our hand shake, he was unbelievably patient as I attempted to express myself, he made a point to assure me that this happens, specifically he engaged me without my provocation and said “this happens please don’t apologize, I’m just happy that things in your life are better. This happens, no worries.” And we took another photo. I walked off and attempted to understand why I reacted this way. Regardless, I appreciate what it was for what it was I suppose, and hope to offer more in terms of admiration in the future. So many things I could have said, so many questions I have, and maybe that’s the point... maybe there was not time for all I would have said and what happened was simply the right thing to have occurred. Appreciate the response to my comment. Again, keep it up Jared.
I attended Dr. Petersons lecture when he came to Phoenix on June 1, 2018. As he came on stage and began to speak all of a sudden my eyes filled with tears that slowly began to roll down my cheeks. I became overcome with an emotional feeling that is very hard to describe. Dr. Peterson and his daughter Mikhaila gave me strength and courage. I have been struggling with an autoimmune disease for seven years. My illness had taken over my entire life. I had tried everything the doctors wanted me to with no relief. Then I tried acupuncture, hypnosis, you name it. I was done. I am so grateful to Mikhaila for sharing her journey. Her blog "Don't Eat That" is LIFE CHANGING. Dr. Peterson has taught me more about myself and others in the last year than I have learned in my lifetime. I am physically and emotionally healthier than I ever thought I would be again. My disease isn't under complete control. Although if someone two years ago told me I would feel this good again, I would have never believed them. After I got sick I just wanted to be able to be me again. I now know for the first time who I (me) actually am. With sticking to foods that my body doesn't reject, I am able for the first time to really start my life. I was overwhelmed seeing Dr. Peterson in person because I know that if it wasn't for him and his daughter, I WOULD NOT be here today. The tears to me, were a symbolic release of any of the old me I had left (I let the dead wood burn off). It was an experience I will never forget. I hope that I get the chance one day to tell Dr. Peterson and Mikhaila how much they have impacted my life by giving me the courage and wisdom to continue to live mine.
I was also blown away to be in the presence of Dr. Peterson. I could not believe he spoke high speed, non-stop for two hours. And I got to stay for pictures. Instead of standing in line, I stood close by and watched as he interacted with people he was having his picture taken with. Then I stood in line when it was almost finished. With all his knowledge and wisdom it is amazing how Dr. Peterson is truly humble and truly KIND. Before our posed photo, we spoke for maybe thirty seconds. Enough time for me to say something stupid and for him to say something intelligent. I met great people - as I expected. About his suggested reading. I have read some of the easier books mentioned on the list. But right now I am busy with a project that takes me to other books.
Thanks for sharing Aliza! I know how crazy was it he spoke high speed for that long haha, it was incredible. Hope you have a great week and are enjoying your reading and project. All the best :-)
That's for sure, and I wanted to make sure I took the opportunity because I didn't in the past with other people I looked up to and they are now dead. Their spirit lives on in their work but meeting people is a very human thing to do that can have a big impact on us.
So happy for you, Jared. Yes I am reading from his book list; I started with Answer to Job, but also reading Maps of Meaning, The Painted Bird, Road to Wigan Pier, plus a host of Jung books not on his list. I've got to see him in Toronto a bunch, so my own experience is different, being easier access, but I'm always always celebrating with others farther away who go and experience. Cheers friend.
That's awesome, I do have Jung's collected works as a digital copy so I'll get around to Answer to Job. Cool to hear you get to be involved in that action in Toronto haha! Good to hear from you. :-)
I don't admire many people. I'm older than he is. I absolutely admire Jordan Petersen. You will never go wrong having him as a 'father figure'. Have a good life!
Thank for your very accurate portrait of dr Peterson. With the 1st few videos I saw only 7 months ago I could see he was deeply committed and deeply touched by his followers. He often complains it is heartbreaking for him to see so many young men asking for direction. He has said he was very touched by the response by Australians to his lectures. It surprised him. He said on these interviews he had to extend himself. Towards the end of the Australian tour he apparently became run down to the point of illness. This is a true and real person as you describe. I personally think he is deeply touched by the spirit of god more than he knows or lets on. One can’t delve deeply into scriptures as he did without a touch of heart. I have a ticket for his talk here in sacramento, California this June.
Wow I didn't know he pushed himself to the point of illness. He did an extra show (the one I went to) so maybe that also pushed things a bit too much. All the best thanks for your comment.
I just returned from meeting him in Athens during one of his lectures and I made a video out of it as well. It's incredible how much our experiences are relatable, being so fascinated by his presence and mesmerized by his words. If anyone reading will have the opportunity to meet him, DO IT! It's so amazing words can't express it properly
I will be meeting him in Kansas in a few months. I am unbelievably excited. My life was completely turned upside down. You wouldn’t believe how much I’ve turned around. Thanks for the video.
Jared Chan - Great description! I've attended all of his biblical lectures & have had 1 on 1 time with him a handful of times over the past couple of years & I experience him in the same way you've described. I definitely developed more respect for him after meeting him in person. He's so kind & humble and, as you touched on, entirely present with you in that moment you're there with him. He's the man. Thanks for sharing your experience!
That's so cool MsFreudianSlip haha! Would have been cool to go to those Biblical Lectures. Also cool to meet people from that crowd of people I am sure.
Excellent video. My respect for Jordan Peterson has just quadrupled. I've read his book, 12 Rules. I also have it in Audio. So I can listen to Dr Peterson as I go for long strolls through the woods and parks.
Love it! I stripped the mp3 files from his maps of meaning lectures and I often do long distance runs to them haha! Sometimes I just keep running till he stops speaking. Thanks for sharing, nature is awesome!
I also have been following him and reading his new book and had opportunity to see him and shook his hand and he was so gracious and patient with the fans. Love him. Super great intellectual professor.
I really love this photo of you and Jordan .In fact, I feel it's even better than the stereotypical fan shot. It totally captures your loving admiration for him. I'm so happy you got to meet him.
you know Jared, I am having a good week. I give Dr. Peterson some credit, I've started standing up straight and I'm cleaning up my...well, environment!
This is beautiful. You describe him so poetically, but it fits. I'm so happy for you! I wish he comes to Europe someday. Even so, I probably shouldn't put my hopes up. Travelling is not very easy when you're a 17-year-old czech girl who earns 4 euros a week teaching english... But hearing your story gives me hope that I'm going to meet him too someday! Thank you.
Wow! I hope one day you do get to meet him, at least you get access to all his content online. Your story moves me, I can't imagine what life must be like for you. Is there the possibility of moving to a better place or earning a better living somehow? I hope you are doing well overall. I wish you the very best. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you so much! But I think you may have misunderstood. I don't live off those 4 euros, I'm a student, I was just talking about money I make after school so that I could spend it on travelling or on some little things for myself or my hobbies. I'm doing well, my country is a great place to live, and I'm sorry if it sounded otherwise, it wasn't my intention to deceive you or to make anyone pity me.
I have to tell you what it's like for me to listen to you talk. I'm relating to every word you say. Although I have not been following Dr Jordan as long as you I feel the same way about him. I can remember various times in my life I needed advice from someone who was worthy of giving it. Someone Iooked up to. Who would tell me the truth in a helpful way. And I thought Dr Jordan is the person I would meet with above anyone else if I could. So yeah I'm hanging on you every word in this video as I am considering spending the big bucks for a ticket to go see him in person. Thanks so much for sharing this
I appreciate your kind words. I just want to let you know you don't need to spend any money to find the wisdom you are searching for. Although, if you feel it is what you want to do then surely have at it. I just wish you all the best. You don't need to hang on my words or anyone elses, your own words will come through you and you'll discover the wisdom within yourself.
Totally commendable that not only did you travel a distance to see and possible share a moment with this man Jared but you also waited for four hours to spend a minute or two in his company... Might be worth remembering that he also got to spend time in "your" company too and i get the distinct impression that he appreciates every fellow human being who shakes his hand. Well done you.
Although I can learn to him online. Paying for a ticket is my way of helping him put his massages out to the masses. We totally need more men like him..who are willing to speak truth in a relevant caring manner. He's brave, he's brilliant and kind.
Dr. Peterson has really impacted my life. Others have said, he is only saying what we already know. So true. When you feel you are the only one who knows, then he comes along. Others who are fans are in the same boat as myself I think. They feel he is the voice they did not have. I have always done my best in the mornings. I am too open as an artist so working with discipline is only going to happen for me in the morning. Sadly I work in a technical field, that means I need more focus than I can muster past Noon. Great video from you, thanks.
Thanks for your insights Anna. What kind of work do you do if you don't mind me asking? and what kind of creative things do you like to do? I'm just interested :-)
Great video. Just deleted my first post by accident so now I'm taking double the time to say thanks :). Not for me to call it but you're on the right track. Something honest and true in the moment. Maybe this is why Jordan resonates with us because its a path to letting something burn more brightly in us.
I am glad you kept at it and commented a second time, thank you very much! I have always had a very strong sense of purpose and meaning in my life (although at times tested and questioned) and I do feel that Jordan's work and Jung and all the surrounding elements are coming together slowly but quite nicely. I am trying to live out the best life I can live, and I hope I can help others along the way. Every year gets better and better and better as I try to expand who I am and what I can do and contribute to others.
2 minutes in and you seem like such a sweet guy (in a good way, utterly earnest). JBP fan to JBP fan, thought that was worth saying :) Thanks for the vid!
Haha thanks Dan! I hope you have a great week, did you watch the newish debate with Jordan Peterson vs Susan Blackmore? It was fantastic: ruclips.net/video/syP-OtdCIho/видео.html As you said you were a JBP fan I thought you might like it :-)
That I did :) What pleased me even more than the exchange of ideas is that it was undertook in a well-mannered way. We don't see enough of that. Well done on your weight loss, btw! Shall continue to be a viewer :)
I also liked it for the reasons you stated, too many of these mainstream interviews with Peterson is becoming tiring for their constant politicizing of everything. And thank you very much!
Congratulations. It is an honor meeting such a great person! He actually does care about every individual. Best of luck with your readings! Q&A section was really interesting too. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm so envious of you having had an opportunity to see him in person. I've been watching his videos for months and his ideas have changed my life for the better. I've come across lots of self-help stuff so far, but nothing really seemed to be as powerful as Peterson's . I feel genuinely privileged to be able to tap into this work and soak it in. My one last wish is to see him in person but I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon since I don't live in a Western country😬
You at least have hours of his work online and putting what you've learned from all of that into action is truly the reward. Carl Jung had a great quote "An old alchemist gave the follow consolation to one of his disciples: 'No matter how isolated you are and how lonely you feel, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown friends will come and seek you."
I am scheduled to be at a Jordan Peterson event tomorrow night in Louisville, Kentucky, of all places. I have a bit of traveling to do to get there. But it fit into my schedule and was not sold out. Thanks for sharing your experience. What he said in his response to you about rising in a hierarchy and being creative reminds me of the Beatles. They came up the hierarchy with excellent - but conventional - songs. When they had the market cornered they released Sergeant Pepper's Heart Club Band. Totally radical for its time. And still is. Everyone loved it and embraced it. No way they could have entered at the bottom with Sergeant Pepper. It's a good example that Jordan Peterson is describing.
I met him after I had been in his presence for more than two hours. And the previous half hour I had been watching him greet other people. So the original rush of being in his presence had subsided somewhat. After our brief encounter, I could remember every detail, but it felt like it didn't happen. Like it wasn't part of reality. And there is a good reason for that. If there can in fact be a reason. I spoke to him about something and he answered a question I had not asked but that his experience as a clinical psychologist must have alerted him to. I am talking about an exchange of six sentences. He understood me from my opening sentence. His answer had the quality of a father to a daughter. I happen to be ten years his senior. But that is totally irrelevant.
I was too late to get tickets and obviously missed a wonderful opportunity. Jordan Peterson is a shining light of sanity in a world that seems very dark and sinister right now.
Thanks Sue, hopefully, you can get along to another show or at the very least you have the lectures online. The world does seem to be getting darker, but that's even more so why we should be getting brighter and brighter! :-)
Jared, you seem like such a great person; a really deep, sincere, intelligent, passionate, and caring young man. I just want to wish you all the very best of life and love.
Terry, thank you very much for your kind comment I appreciate it a lot. You have made me feel very validated. I hope you are having a great week and wish you the very best in return. What have you been up to?
I went to his talk in Charlotte NC, only a few people with special passes where allowed to talk to him afterwards. I really just wanted to shake his hand and thank him for his wisdom. Its understandable really, it would have taken hours to go through the line and I had work in the morning. No hard feelings of course, just a bit disappointing.
His online lectures will always be with you and as far as you've improved through his teaching in action throughout your life, his spirit is there also ;-)
Jared, It's so great to see you excited about life and wanting to learn how to be a more enlightened and educated person. Right there with you, buddy! Good luck with your reading and content making. I liked your question to Dr. Peterson about creative people. I am more of a creative person and am in the midst of figuring out my career/ way to make money so I can read and write and do the things I love. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for your thoughtful comment Clayton. I've found it very difficult to earn any kind of money with creativity and even if I could a lot of the time I'd still feel stifled by having to force my creative skills to produce something that serves business as top god so to speak. Although I enjoy business also, I feel for me I have to separate business and creativity a little bit, at least when I'm starting out and still developing my creative skills (by this I mean I don't really expect to make money from anything I am doing right now creatively). I hope to eventually make money out of my creative pursuits but who knows if that will happen, I can only keep trying, but I've been focusing more on just improving my skills instead of focusing on monetization (although I have researched extensively how to monetize certain creative projects). Anyway, I'm probably rambling now haha! I have a lot to say as I think about this problem every day as it is one of my existential problems personal to me that I need to solve. What I concluded is to take Jordan Peterson's advice and make sure I am working enough to be financially stable (still working on this but I am doing okay and see things leveling out soon) and at the same time making a lot of time just to do creative things and trying to follow through with discipline to make some decent headway into a creative project (instead of just skimming from project to project). through this process I am also looking to build valuable skills in writing, speaking, and other skills like recording, editing, designing etc. As I progress in my skill level and competence overall I will continue to look for opportunities to advance my position and hopefully I will be able to find a way to succeed in a creative domain. This might include flipping from multiple things and continuously adjusting (working part-time, freelancing, volunteering, any number of different experiences) to try to find a way to make this creative life work overall. Sorry I went into rambling again! haha! I think we share a similar struggle that's all! All the best!
This is awesome. When you were talking about a dream you had that he was in, i has the same a few days ago. I was walking around in what looked like a small town in the UK and it was getting dark and Jordan was just walking down the street by himself with a pea coat in just minding his business and he walks up to a cat that’s laying in a bench and just pets it, i go up and start a convo with him. It wasn’t until a few days later that i put 2 and 2 together that one of his rules is pet a cat when you encounter one on the street… how crazy is that. That he did that in my dream. It blew my mind cause I’m my dream i thought it was so random!
I saw him in Philadelphia on the 8th with my brother, whom got sick from scarfing down four greasy hotdogs, so I missed the opportunity to meet him. I’m jealous.
Haha!! That's a funny story about the hotdogs your brother ate... I've got some videos on a plant-based diet maybe that'll help him not get sick next time? Sad to hear you missed out but at least you went to the show. All the best Vulcan!
I can't wait until JP comes to NYC or nearby so I can see him! Do you happen to have a schedule of his tour? Also, I love your description of him! As a Christian, I truly feel that he is a Godly, loving man. Also, sorry for the edits- I'm also into a plant based diet and I'd like to talk to you more about that as well. I'm a pre med student with a passion for holistic/integrative/preventative medicine especially in regards to nutrition, lifestyle, stress, environmental factors, etc.
This is a link to Jordan's public schedule: jordanbpeterson.com/events/ I'd also be interested in having a talk, sorry I think I replied to your comments in reverse order. But yeah would be great to chat about stuff and we can record it and put it on our channels?
I love how, in these days of the "Internet celebrity", the people many of us are star struck by are people who have *earned* our admiration. Dying is the era of the Hollywood A-lister. Who would most us be more excited to meet? Brad Pitt, Samuel Jackson, Tom Cruise... or JBP, Joe Rogan, Tim Ferriss, etc etc? It makes me optimistic about the future.
That's a good point, I hope it continues like this as people who are actually credible and have talent will be more recognized as opposed to some industry hack.
So glad I came across your video Jared. Dr. Peterson emphasizes self - reliance so persuasively I sometime wondered about him. You describe a man that seems to know how to make contact with others. I have been to a few psychiatrists and some are hard to connect with ( which didn't make them ineffective with me). I'll never see another one, now, but you describe the kind of Dr. I would choose to try, for sure. I think he might be '"dangerous" if he could communicate that personal connection with a big audience. :) I'm glad I came across his YT channel too, and yours.
Thanks Richard, I do think some 'professionals' are just there because it is a career and doesn't mean they are any good at building a connection with their clients. I do have close friends who are psychologists and the number one thing we notice is there are so many psychologists in the field who are not 'natural born psychologists', they aren't naturally good at analysing people and connecting with them to engage the theraputic alliance with the client. I do think Peterson being a clinical psychologist has helped refine and develop him as a person but he must of had a natural ability to engage with people at the same time. Shop around and try find a better therapist maybe, but I know it can be hard. Thanks for your comment all the best!
Hey Jared Thanx, man, for the response. I'm not looking for one anymore (couldn't afford one if I did). But this business about "shopping around" applies to any service I can think of : mechanic, plumber, electrician, physician, even oncologist, and not just for bedside manner, but basic honesty and willing to go the extra mile. I was impressed by your description of Jordan Peterson willing to sit there hours on end and sign books, chit chat, and everything. I had the feeling he was like that, but who knows, you know.
Wow, I wished more people would share their experiences. That's so valuable to me. The way you describe it I can really feel the way you interacted with him and his picture in my mind gets more alive. Now he is a more and richer role model in my mind and heart
Cool video. If I am ever lucky enough to meet Sir Peterson, my main struggle would be to not just instinctively kneel! Though to be honest, I wouldn't mind if I did. ;)
Jared this is amazing. Is there anything you wish you would have said to him? I am going to see him when he comes to NYC next month and I have no idea what to say to him, other than thank you
I don't want to go to Jordan Peterson's head but he got me closer spiritually and hes probably said my wife I'd like to think as if as it as God speaking through him
Thanks for watching, truthfully I can't say I write every day but I am doing more creatively than I ever have and creating better micro-routines and habits. I do believe I will get to that point eventually of writing every day. I find the things I want to write about and that I end up writing about tend to be pretty dense topics that I have to spend a lot of time learning about. So I am currently studying Carl Jung going through all his books, Nietzsche on the side, and going back through Jordan's lectures on audio when I go for runs and drive. I feel I need to learn more to write with something that has more force behind it, but I do still write and should do more regardless.
I’m seeing here in Edmonton, Canada next month. I’m looking forward to it. Not sure if I’ll edit 4 hrs to see him tho. Good on you for that. Lol. You say you’re going to try plant based eating? Very good choice, I’ve been vegan for 5 years now and doing well. Pm me if you have any questions. Cheers!
@@libraryofthemind try harder and harder - A thing I've found recently which has massively helped with my productivity in my creative goals is Cardiovascular fitness in the morning routine and general healthy eating. Keep pushing sir!
Subscribe to his website and then you will receive a heads-up for his tour dates BEFORE it is announced to the public. Ta-Dah! I saw him in Seattle and didn’t get my book signed. Next month I’m going to see him in Calgary Alberta, and yes, I’m going to drag my book to that lecture too.....gotta get this book signed! Thanks for your heartfelt story-you expressed meeting him exactly how I imagine he is like: loving, kind, firm, strong. Yup, Everyone’s Dad. Hey? I thought you people were upside-down.....is this a camera trick? 🤪
Yeah you're right about the depth the only flip side on that and I hope hes doing better it's also you could see the depression in his eyes and hes doing much better and we need them around for a while selfishly lol
I just went to a meet and greet after his show tonight for his We Who Wrestle With God tour. They won't let you ask him a question anymore. You shake his hand, take a pic, sit down, and he picks three people out of over 100 in the room a question. Total Ripoff.
Talk about being a fanboy 😉. You give more ammunition to those that claim that Peterson’s followers are part of a cult (said in all well-meaning; I’m a proud member of that cult, too).
haha! I was just expressing my experience what else can I do. If people want to hate me for having emotions and enjoying life what can I do about that really? Thanks Fig Tree have fun! :-)
Was great to meet Jordan Peterson in person and am loving reading from his recommended book list. Anyone else reading from this list?
which category are you reading from? would you recommend anything yet?
I started in the Clinical Psychology and Personality section reading Carl Jung. I actually started with 5. Carl Jung: The Symbolic Life, and within that volume there is a transcript of the Tavistock Lectures (a fantastic place to start with Jung as he clearly and easily explains a lot of his core concepts and ideas). You can check out my latest video on what I've learned from Jung's Tavistock lectures here: ruclips.net/video/TyAPBd93IDo/видео.html
I started with that as I found a book of that in a university library (I just sneak in and read the books haha).
Hazel eyes can often change colours depending on the light, so I guess this is what happens to his eyes? haha!
Thank you!!
Brilliant, thanks for this. Dr Peterson seems truly a good guy. The fact that he stays for hours and hours to meet all his fans is top notch.
He has a heart for sure, he didn't need to stay up that late.
Memorable.
That's awesome... I love that how the door was just open haha! That really made me feel how the room was haha. Thanks for sharing.
I might hug him & break down in tears if I see him. He's had that major an impact on my life.
Glad to hear, what impacted you the most? How did you benefit? :-)
It is good when a normal person posts something complimentary. Too many anti Peterson people try to make his fans seem like crazy fanatics.
It is so rare when we can actually speak to great men we admire. They are so few. Most of them are dead, usually long dead.
So ture, it's very important.
I found the following particularly insightful: (I summarize)
He presented the information in a new interesting way.
Thanks Max, it was great meeting Jordan for sure!
When you're really there, it just cements in your mind and heart. The experience of being there is just so much more than hearing it in a disconnected way.
I agree, I think we might be missing something in our society because we don't meet up like this since church declined etc.
Yeah, I've been wondering about Church as I was actually disillusioned from it by my church going parents of all people who realized they were being hypocrites and just "doing the church thing with the church people."
So then we started doing "Organic church" which was basically meeting a people's houses and going on outing to either help people or view and pray for the places and people around a city's spots with hardship. But then school and such kicked in a my parents then switched to being the people who go around and shine to their local neighbors and parents of my sibling's teammates.
On this wild ride I've now been tasked (probably by the holy spirit) To create an art meetup where I can gather together people who want to create any sort of art and we can all engage in creating it (whether that be reading, writing, composing, ect.)
All this is to say I realize the power of meeting in-person, but I'm scared of it at the same time, and don't like the cult-like feeling I sometimes get from it.
I think I understand this, might feel that way too if I had a chance to talk to him. Would you please share how JP reacted to you when this happened?
You guys, thanks so much for sharing. This is amazing!
Thats a great point: "Its important to see great people..." I agree. Its wise and prudent to expose ourselves to those whom we can learn from.
Do you live in Toronto or in Canada?
I don't admire many people. I'm older than he is. I absolutely admire Jordan Petersen. You will never go wrong having him as a 'father figure'. Have a good life!
Thank you!! I will have a good life thanks! I wish you a good life too :-)
Thank for your very accurate portrait of dr Peterson.
Jared Chan - thanks. You come across as a totally righteous dude. I’m not sure why.
Wow, I am glad to hear you've turned your life around. Excellent!
Jared Chan -
Great description!
Dr.Peterson just makes sense for many and honestly just wants to help people.
Well said, I think so too.
I also have been following him and reading his new book and had opportunity to see him and shook his hand and he was so gracious and patient with the fans. Love him. Super great intellectual professor.
I am glad you also had a similar experience Leigh! All the best to you :-)
I really love this photo of you and Jordan .In fact, I feel it's even better than the stereotypical fan shot. It totally captures your loving admiration for him. I'm so happy you got to meet him.
Haha!! ohhh geeze ;-)
Did I make you blush? ;) If so, that's good!
I fully agree... It really captures the 'moment' between the two instead of just a typical choreographed photo.
I love how you describe Dr Peterson. I love and respect him too. Thank you
Thanks Linda! Hope you are having a fun week :-)
you know Jared, I am having a good week.

Wonderful post! I feel like I was there with you! I’m a Peterson fan and loved your assessment of him.
Thanks Marilyn! I am encouraged by your words :-)
Although I can learn to him online. Paying for a ticket is my way of helping him put his massages out to the masses. We totally need more men like him..who are willing to speak truth in a relevant caring manner. He's brave, he's brilliant and kind.
Damn. You're lucky. I live in the other side of the world's hemisphere so just the idea of meeting him makes my eyes bawl out.
Maybe one day :-)
This is amazing Jared! I missed on his show, gutted.
I'm just interested :-)
so happy for you! tha's great that you got to see him and chat briefly
Thanks for watching! Wish you the best too!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
What an amazing experience .
Thank you so much for sharing it with us .
❤❤❤❤❤❤
It was fantastic: ruclips.net/video/syP-OtdCIho/видео.html
As you said you were a JBP fan I thought you might like it :-)
That I did :) What pleased me even more than the exchange of ideas is that it was undertook in a well-mannered way.
No worries Mehdi, thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the Q&A!
Wow thanks for sharing the examples about The Beatles, frikken love it!
Good vibes all around.
I look forward to being in a crowd of fans of JP. All good people :)
What was it like for you to meet him? :)

Thanks for sharing:)
He was just here in Texas and I missed it. Such a bummer.
His spirit is always with you... on the internet ;-)
"Hoh! That's a long time!"- I really liked that part! Keep up great work mate!
Haha thanks heaps for the encouragement. :-)
Going to see him Jan 24th in CA. Can’t wait!
Jared, you seem like such a great person; a really deep, sincere, intelligent, passionate,
and caring young man. I just want to wish you all the very best of life and love.
Terry, thank you very much for your kind comment I appreciate it a lot. You have made me feel very validated. I hope you are having a great week and wish you the very best in return. What have you been up to?
In a week from now I'll be flying to California to attend to his presentation at Long Beach. Most likely, I'll be having a similar reaction.
Sweet man, hope it goes well! Have fun :-)
He's a great man and you're a good and nice guy. Subscribed. Thanks for sharing.
Aww thanks man! I appreciate your nice comment! I'll check out your channel :-)
Good for you Jared. I love your passion.
Thank you for sharing your experience with JBP. I hope I get to see him at a live lecture too... I’m hoping he comes to a city near me.
He is going all around the world so look out for it! All the best :-)
I am very happy for you. Prof. Peterson is an amazing human being.
Indeed he is a great example! We must all work to become better human beings in our own right too. ;-)
Im seeing him in the States 4 days from now, im excited....
Nice!! 1 day left have fun!
This is absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for sharing!
It was an incredible experience for sure!
I want to see him so bad. You are making me regret not trying harder to see him when he was here. Good on you brother.
Jordan Peterson is a good human being and I'm happy that you met him.
Aww thank you! Have a great week :-)
❤
I went to his talk in Charlotte NC, only a few people with special passes where allowed to talk to him afterwards. I really just wanted to shake his hand and thank him for his wisdom. Its understandable really, it would have taken hours to go through the line and I had work in the morning. No hard feelings of course, just a bit disappointing.
His online lectures will always be with you and as far as you've improved through his teaching in action throughout your life, his spirit is there also ;-)
Haha, I just realised that came across as really cult like... I was just trying to encourage you. All the best :)
I have VIP tickets this Sunday(6-17) in Minneapolis, MN.
Yeaaa boi! VIP, fancy ;-)
Lovely description . Thank you.
Have a good week, thanks for watching :-)
Great to see JBP saw and responded to your comment
Man.. You are so lucky!
Good for you!!
Que increible debe ser conocerlo, yo como minimo me desmayo!
I don't know what that means but I hope it's good. Thank you.
Jared, I remember that question you posed to him. I've thought about his answer from time to time since then. It was a really good insight! :)
Haha, that's pretty funny that you remember that question from the Q&A... I also often think back on those answers too.
Very interesting video...👏👏👏 thanks for posting!
Thanks for sharing your experience with the world. I not sure why, but this is really inspiring.
Thanks Gary, I am very glad it inspired you in some way. Have a good week :-)
Fortunate fellow. I wish one day I could share the same experience.
I hope so too! Keep at it :-)
That is awesome, thank you a lot for sharing! 😃
Love the way u look at emotional connection with people, I’m similar in this way and liked how in depth you went with the little things, great vid!
Petting cats is a joy! Thanks for sharing, interesting dream.
@@libraryofthemind I’m going to see him in DC in February. Can’t wait
@@Alexphutchison how was your experience seeing him?
I saw him in Philadelphia on the 8th with my brother, whom got sick from scarfing down four greasy hotdogs, so I missed the opportunity to meet him. I’m jealous.
Haha!! That's a funny story about the hotdogs your brother ate... I've got some videos on a plant-based diet maybe that'll help him not get sick next time? Sad to hear you missed out but at least you went to the show. All the best Vulcan!
Jared Chan I appreciate the offer, but he’s the kind of person that has an aversion to any sort of vegetable, or anything healthy for that matter 😂
Haha! No worries man, all the best!
A great story, very well-told. I am a feeler-type, too. Thanks for making me feel Dr. Peterson second-hand.
Haha!!! I am glad I am spreading positive feelings out there! Thanks for commenting and letting me know.
Jane firbank (rip) of the human givens institute was like that . Good therapists have that kind of presence .
I think it is rare to find but they are out there for sure. Thanks for sharing.
This is a link to Jordan's public schedule: jordanbpeterson.com/events/
I'd also be interested in having a talk, sorry I think I replied to your comments in reverse order. But yeah would be great to chat about stuff and we can record it and put it on our channels?
Great video bud! I hope I’ll also get the chance to meet the man myself.
I hope you get to, it will be a great experience!
good for you
haha! thanks :)
Thank you for sharing Jared, very interesting video. Keep up the great work but be kind to yourself too. Jung can be really punishing to the psyche.
Thanks Anne, I will take it slowly and try not overwhelm myself. :-)
im meeting him in Austin, Texas, USA in two months. do you have any advice for dealing with that (just in general)???
Just be natural and have fun.
Jared Chan Yeah I imagine it will. The more direct to consumer this world becomes, the less hacks will make it. (presumably)
Hey Jared
Thanx, man, for the response.
Wow, good for you man.👍👍
Nice one.🤗
Wow, I wished more people would share their experiences.
That's so valuable to me.
The way you describe it I can really feel the way you interacted with him and his picture in my mind gets more alive.
Now he is a more and richer role model in my mind and heart
Thanks man, glad it touched you. Hope you are doing good!
Great video Jared. i have started re-reading Carl Jung - Man And His Symbols, its a real brain tease but its worth it...
Hey Ian, Man and His Symbols is next on my list after I've finished Modern Man in Search of a Soul. Next week I hope to crack them both. ;-)
So lucky... I want so badly to see him in portland... except it got up 300$ for a ticket... I'll probly go and video all the protesters atleast.
Sammie Morgan haha someones gotta do it
Doooo ittttt ;-)
Cool video. If I am ever lucky enough to meet Sir Peterson, my main struggle would be to not just instinctively kneel! Though to be honest, I wouldn't mind if I did. ;)
Haha!! That would be hectic.
Cool, lucky you.
indeed
Jared this is amazing. Is there anything you wish you would have said to him? I am going to see him when he comes to NYC next month and I have no idea what to say to him, other than thank you
I don't want to go to Jordan Peterson's head but he got me closer spiritually and hes probably said my wife I'd like to think as if as it as God speaking through him
So are you writing every day? Btw thanks for the vid😊
Cheers!
Thanks man, yeah I have been on a plant-based diet for 1.5 years now and loving it. I've got a few videos on it. 5 years, you are a legend!
Unmasking the Shadow (pay attention to the two-tone suit)
I've had dreams of Jordan Peterson in them also
What happened in them?
How's your writing going Jared? ; )
To be honest, not as good as I would have hoped. However, I will do better.
@@libraryofthemind try harder and harder - A thing I've found recently which has massively helped with my productivity in my creative goals is Cardiovascular fitness in the morning routine and general healthy eating. Keep pushing sir!
Saint Jordan meets disciple. Better than meeting your favourite rock star.
LMAO!!! He blessed me ;-)
Lucky you! I'm happy for you. I hope to see him live one day too.
Hero worship, but I love Jordan Peterson so much
We only worship heroes until we become great enough to surpass them.
I love Jordan too hehe
hehe!!!!
Yeah you're right about the depth the only flip side on that and I hope hes doing better it's also you could see the depression in his eyes and hes doing much better and we need them around for a while selfishly lol
nice video jared
Haha thanks Rooty :-)
I'm very envious of you lol
I just went to a meet and greet after his show tonight for his We Who Wrestle With God tour. They won't let you ask him a question anymore. You shake his hand, take a pic, sit down, and he picks three people out of over 100 in the room a question. Total Ripoff.
I'm sending you a PM on facebook.
