      I can't see Darius as an Emperor, atleast not yet, his first character arc has ended and a second one has begun, but he'll only hail himself as Emperor when the Sons of the Empire name him that, it'd be tyrannical, and thus hypocritical, for him to take the title of Emperor himself.

    This is the kind of RP I love in games. Darius isn't a paragon of humanity, though he sometimes thinks he is. He's fallible, hypocritical, and fickle, but he also happens to be a damned competent fighter and intelligent enough to manipulate the loyalty of his brothers in arms. He's an imperfect and dynamic character, living out his adventures one mistake, and one triumph, at a time. I especially love how sometimes things you didn't intend or expect actually make the story work even better, like being chased by several gangs of bandits all the way to Lucon's army.
    He lost his innocence in the peaceful little hamlet he called home, but he also lost a sense of purpose and direction. Swearing revenge, he ran off to find the army. Maybe they could do what he could not alone. He may have joined for his own reasons, but he convinced himself that he was a true believer in the cause after being saved by the very man he sought to find. His emperor would reunite the world under one banner and bring an end to the Mongol horde. Once his own goals were threatened, however, he began to see his leader's incompetence and quietly second-guess his every move. He still clung to the belief that his cause was just; that the dream of a united Empire beat in Darius' chest more fervently than a thousand war drums. But is that what really drove him, or was it bloodlust for those who ruined his simple life? Or could it be that he's developed a taste for glory during his time in the arena and on the battlefield? He's clearly better than Lucon, so why should he be following anyone? Why shouldn't others follow him? They should, and they must. Anyone who refuses to turn against Lucon is a traitor to the Empire.
    I'm not sure if you did this on purpose, but Darius' self-delusion is pretty realistic. He could make a seriously compelling character for a novel.

    “Calradians! Countrymen! Dark tidings do I bear! Our Emperor, Lucon Osticos, is dead. But not at the hands of the barbarians or the traitors, defending our beloved Empire as it should rightly have been! No, it was at the hands of mutineers, who had him murdered like a common criminal! This betrayal being spearheaded by one Darius of Syratos, whom our Emperor had taken in when the eastern barbarians had left him destitute! And so he repaid this mercy with murder, as the Vaegirs did to the defenceless people of Lycaron! But this is still the Empire, and under the direction of the Senate, the law still holds true-“

    I have only just read the title, and already think to myself "Imagine, being Emperor Lucon, your men have been rather faithful and loyal to you, as you've had their interests at heart. And then one day, you pick up this lowly beggar looking to join your ranks. Front line fodder, you had plenty of that. Less chance of your loyal, elite men dying to the enemy. They die quick enough, easy to replace....Except this one didn't. This one succeeded. Battle after battle, fight after fight. He even bested you in a tournament. Where no man were brave enough to stand up against the Emperor 1on1, He stood tall, ALONE, against TWO, and triumphed.
    You're taken aback, you start having a midlife crisis, wondering what life has done to bring such shame to your name, to be defeated and brought low by such a poor man's beggar. You start to stick to home, taking to raiding caravans, whilst your empire crumbles to dust around you as you wallow in self pity. Meanwhile, the lowly beggar has grasped more and more fame from his victories, and through his victories, the respect of his fellow soldiers. Even the elite, once high and proud, see him for what he truly is, a warrior, one that will not stop at nothing to see his mission completed. One that will grasp whatever opportunity it takes to bring justice to those that wronged him. And you, as Emperor Lucon....have wronged him...

    Having just executed a king for his lack of defense against the empire Darios' blood should be boiling, he should either take the fight to the kerghit, raiding towns and preying on weak parties, maybe eventually realizing his true fight is with the strong nobility and he needs to return with more strength,
    Or alternatively you mentioned he needs a new string of jobs to increase his fame, why not head to the recently rebelled town, he's got to feel a companionship with the fellow rebels trying to escape khergit clutches. Does his vows of vengence against the khergit and his vow to defend the empire put that city as a beacon, an oasis placed between his two enemies and therefore a place to run jobs, raise his battle experience and (eventually) claim as his own if the empire or khegit weaken themselves defeating the rebels

    I think you should try to make that city that rebelled your first city and capital. Seeing common folk rise up against tyranny like that was probably one of the last straws for Darius, so what better place to be the beating heart of a new empire? Also it might be neat if you only ever get new lords from vassalized companions. Instead of a bunch of rich fools born with privilege this new empire ought be led by men forged in the fires of war alongside Darius. And if they just HAPPEN to be former soldiers of his army and are more loyal as a result of that connection, well, that's just icing on the cake.

    "It's been sometime since I saw Darius execute that excuse of an Emperor. Still I believe I was the right call. That fool had little to no claim to the throne in the first place, let alone his inability to protect our families from the Horsemen-from the east. I remember the first time I saw Darius, nothing but a recruit. But then he rose through the ranks faster then any other man seen in the army. He handled a blade with such vigor, and he was always training, prepping for the next fight. All while Luccon sat of his ass while the Senate pampered him like a child, filling his head with lies. Not once did I see that over-glorified bastard eat what he gave us. And it was only natural that the spoiled high rankers remained loyal to the fool. I'm betting the other armies might understand what we did, but their Generals have their respect, won't be easy convincing them that this was the right call. So I suppose we're high-tailing it to one of the other Imperial factions for now. I hear the Western Emperor was a General who led by example, maybe Darius and him could strike up a deal?

    News arrived to the courts of Argoron: the emperor has been slain. The emperor had done well to recruit strong warriors from around the empire to fight for him, but as he increasingly proved to be a craven leader, these valuable soldiers turned on him. Lead by a popular commoner, several men attempted to sieze the emperor before a fight could commence. The emperors body guards desperately fended off the mutineers, and made it out with the emperor and their lives.
    Trapped in the mountains, the emperor learned his war treasury was stolen by retreating looters, and added to the treasury of the mutiny. The emperor still had the majority of his cavalry force, and attempted to charge the mutineers with his more powerful, yet outnumbered, forces. While the emperor initially planned to escape with a detachment during the battle and seek out support elsewhere, he began to fear his cavalry would join the mutiny, as the mutinies leader was on the front lines, and he would look even more cowardly to run away. He accepted the challenge, and lead his cavalry into battle, which shook the mutineer lines who had believed the emperor was a coward. Still, with their leader by their side, the mutineers held strong against the powerful shock cavalry of the emperors guard.
    Just when the emperors troops looked to be in the clear, the emperor himself was knocked from his horse and set upon by several mutineers. Several bodyguards charged in an attempt to free the emperor, but they failed. Seeing this, the emperors guard routed, wishing to seek support from local lords and the garrison of Diathma. However, on their way to diathma, they had received word from the mutineers that the emperor had been tried as a traitor to the empire, and was executed. The captain of the emperors guard was stripped of all rank by order of the senate, and despite the senates effort, news spread excessively fast.
    The empress of the south declared a petition to appoint her daughter the senates new candidate, but was hastily rejected, and thus refused to declare the mutineers outlaws. The western emperor, Garrius, offered asylum to the mutineers, despite having many forthcoming about their killing of an emperor. Overall, the main winner of this would be garrius of the western empire. His war with the north was greatly assisted by the instability and lose of power from the northern emperors death, and he further used the mutineers case to argue that a weak leader would never be fit as emperor.

    Battlefield log of Gorigos, also known as The Shark:
    It really happened. Something that was on every one of our minds, even the elites, yet none dared act. It was a tension. We could all feel it building, welling inside, but none really had the courage to do a damn thing about it. It pissed me off. But then HE spoke the word. Darius..he's become somewhat of a legend to us...well, at least to me. The amount of respect I have for that man is nothing short of idolized. There were rumors that he was plotting. I never paid much attention to it, so I dismissed it. But then one day, whilst we were camping, he called out to all the mean, and called out loud enough so that the bastard himself and his elite could also hear across the valley st their camp, that the time for retribution was now.
    I've never grabbed a spear so fast in my life. The sheer amount of men that quickly rallied to his side, really shows that I was not the only one who held him in high regard, or at the very least, was fed up with that would be Emperor. The battle itself last no more than 60 seconds truthfully. Several of our men rained arrows down upon what little infantry they had, but thanks to their heavy armor, it was mostly to little effect. No, truly the battle ended the moment our infantry lines clashed. Darius began lashing out like a demon of war, an unstoppable machine hell bent on victory no matter the cost. It was a glorious and frightful sight to behold. But alas, I had my own battle to fight, and it was with none other than would be Emperor Lucon. He charged past Darius rather quickly, knowing full well what he was capable of, but didn't take into account that I was just as determined to take him down. While his focus was on Darius, I drove my spear deep into his horse, bringing it down, and him with it. He hit the ground hard, the momentum knocking him unconscious. Seizing the opportunity, I grasped hold of him sk that he would not escape. I held the entire source of all our problems in my hands. And that was it...the moment his men saw him defeated, the tucked tail and ran. We all knew they didn't really want to fight for him. It was all for rank and money. Not loyalty or respect. That day, my actions earned me a place by Darius side, as a companion, alongside another noteworthy brother. And in being noted, he also granted me a boon of armor, a boon I shall not soon forget. Watching the execution, I thought to myself "With this, today marks the start of a new journey. It will be hard, but it will be a future we will make with our own hands". And together, with Darius, I truly believe we can make a good one.

    The question of what to do with that money is an important one. Given the story and its tone it might be better to use it so you can stay on the path of the rebellion leader - maybe pop some mods on to help with that? I'd be keen to see more about Darius' rebellion and uniting the empire

    • @juancruzgoni1
      @juancruzgoni1 2 года назад +21

      I think it's programming. A king/emperor shouldn't be in the frontlines most of the time, it's a blow to his faction if captured or killed
      Then again you can sometimes see them at the front. Also may be based on personality

    • @ruslannogayev4638
      @ruslannogayev4638 2 года назад +8

      I'm not sure if it's with every faction but I noticed you cannot invite the ruler to the army which leaves only the option to actually be in an army in this situation is when the ruler assembles the army himself and they tend to take turns in this thing to balance the influence within the faction. Hence, poor Lucon was just executed due to issues with the game. I reckon , it would've been better in terms of action if he joined a regular lord instead of a ruler

    • @lemonade.valley
      @lemonade.valley 2 года назад +3

      Aye, I was there with Darius during our army service, some of the cataphracts and legionaries are actually sons of nobles that bribe their way into Lucon's army, so they will gain "experience" and "prove themselves in battle". In reality, all they are are cowards that only dares to attack looters and petty bandits, and pretend to be heroes. Elite troops? Nay, they are mere weaklings with equipment costing what could feed my entire village for a full winter. Lucon tried to keep them alive because he's a weak man, his only aim was to please the noble lords.

    With Lucon's death, I'm sure the Empire would want Darius' head. But the opposite would also apply.
    Darius can hold grudges against Lucon's empire, and turn to merc work, fighting not for money (although you will get paid), but anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who goes to war against Lucon's cronies, changing contracts to factions that fights his empire.
    Even if he has to stomach the Khuzaits that destroyed his village. Because, come on, his village got destroyed because Empire got sloppy, Khuzaits are just taking opportunities.
