TANGIWAI Rail DISASTER - Reconstruction

In New Zealand when a lahar (volcanic mudflow) from Mount Ruapehu weakened a railway bridge near Tangiwai. An express passenger train from Wellington to Auckland, unaware of the bridge's condition, approached and derailed, plunging into the Whangaehu River.
