As a native Texan that grew up just outside of Houston I've always loved the Astrodome... definitely my childhood home away from home. So many memories from the Dome....touched King George's bus once when me and my family saw him at the Rodeo
The couple that George Strait talked to before starting the song was President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. Both lived in Houston after he left office, and were often at sporting events in the Astrodome, Minute Maid Park, and NRG Stadium.
Throughout George 23-year career, Strait has earned countless trade and industry achievement awards including four American Music Awards, 15 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards (including 71 CMA nominations), eight Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, and membership in the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. In 2002, he earned the ACM's Gene Weed Award for Special Achievement in recognition of his record-breaking 50 number 1 singles. Strait has released 31 albums including Strait out of the Box (1995), Pure Country (1992) and this year's For the Last Time: George Strait Live from the Astrodome - all of which have hit gold or platinum status.
The Astrodome in Houston, Texas, was the world's first indoor multi-use sports stadium. It was built in 1965, quit being used in 2013. First domed stadium, first to use artificial turf (Astroturf). Thanks for the reaction to a great song.
My favorites from King George are So Much Like My Dad; I Cross My Heart; You Look So Good In Love; Love Without End, Amen; Carrying Your Love With Me; The Cowboy Rides Away; What’s Going On In Your World; Today My World Slipped Away; When Did You Stop Loving Me; I’d Like To Have That One Back; The Best Day; and I Know She Still Loves Me.
My dad (miss ya pops)sent me this song on my 21st bday. I cried like a baby. P.s. this is his Astrodome live record. Pretty sure it was the last concert at the astrodome before they moved the Rodeo to Reliant Stadium.
It is George HW Bush and his wife Barbara Bush. For those wondering, George was the singer who spent the last weekend of Bush’s Presidency at Camp David entertaining him in 1993 or so.
Country and Gospel, especially black Gospel music have the same roots.. A great example is the documentary (available on You Tube) "He Touched Me, the Gospel Music of Elvis Presley." It traces Elvis' roots through Mississippi and Tennessee Gospel connections and emphasizes his friendships and close relations with black churches and blues and jazz great on Beale Street.
The family he was talking with was the ex-President George Bush. This was, of course, in Texas. I grew up in south Texas just about 25 miles away from where George Strait was born and raised. I met him 6 or 7 times BEFORE he got really famous. Went to a lot of the country dance halls where he was playing when he was getting started.
@@joshwilliams3653 Well hell. I grew up in Charlotte, but towards Poteet. I know Uvalde very well, and I have an uncle still living there right now. In high school ('70's). I played against Jourdanton, Runge, D'Hanis, Somerset, and a few more. Uvalde and Pleasanton were too big for us to play. Good to hear from another Texan!
@@joshwilliams3653 All right then! Good to talk with you! Yeah, little tiny town of Charlotte, is my growing up place. Nothing there but family, friends I grew up with from birth thru high school, and then left to join the Air Force, see the world type thing. Well, I sure did that! Now, here I am living in the Philippines, and not in a million years would I have thought that would be where I lived! HUGE change, huh?
