That small size would go great with an iPhone on the go. Ah, but the Amazon description says: "Universal Compatibility: Support Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android." That notably leaves out iOS. One reviewer does say it works via a USB-Lightning dongle: " I also love that I can use this little guy with my iphone 13 (you just need an additional dongle as this SSD comes with type C to USB and USB to USB, which do not function for iphones)." My question would be whether is needs external power to that dongle or can run off the iPhone. Some accessories do. Some do not.
Yeah I have a ton of storage now but I like showcasing different tech that comes in. These are small and pretty fast so pretty good for money. Especially 1 tb for 58 bucks.
Hi Craig, I have learned a lot from your videos and what you are doing is fantastic and oh so needed!! --- but here is a question I was wondering if you could answer. Soon I’ll be buying a MacBook Pro. I need 2 or 3 external SSD drives for use with orchestral sample libraries. Sometimes 100 tracks that are reading and processing all kinds of patches. What is the recommended minimum read and write speed for an SSD using these libraries? Any help is appreciated - thank you!!
I'm not familiar with so I can't answer the exact question, but I have seen most tasks, even 4K editing with higher codec, done on external SSDS with read and write speeds at 800 MB/s or faster. So I don't think you need 2,800 MB/s but it helps if you can afford those 40 Gbps enclosures. You also then need to deal with higher heat loads and need to cool the devices better.
It's plenty fast for games. I'm not sure if it works in Clamshell mode and if I get time to try that I can update but I would check on the Amazon page also.
Thanks so much. got a SSD from your advcice. it is flying this thing. sooo fast.. may i ask your expert advice on external HD docking stations? i ran through 6 of them in the past. they break fast. Tech repair guys use them often. i sit on 80 HDs or so, and found such docking stations to be the most practical. But am at a loss with speed and quality .

Craig, can video editing be done on external ssd's? My macbook pro has a 128 ssd by i'm unsure if I should upgrade the internal or buy an external...thanks
Not really, just comes down to time as my normal job is about 50 hours per week and then I create these videos. I'll get back to that in the future at some point but time right now is super tight so I have to save some in various areas.
I have done tests at 10 and 50 GB on this and they seem pretty consistent. On my more recent SSD tests I'm now doing larger data transfer tests but for this one it performs fairly well but can slow down on huge transfer of over 100 GB etc. But for what you get in the size and cost, not a bad deal.
@@craigneidelthanks for the reply. Looks like a good choice for everyday use. The largest files I'll be using this SSD for are around 30GB. Thanks for the review. Best of luck 🍀
Classic sandbagging. There is no reason not to have it thumb drive size without any cables, as soon as they sell a million of these they'll release the better ones. Transcend made a thumb drive but they are hard to get for some reason. They've had the technology for an ssd thumb drive for over 15 years they just didn't have good USB speeds
I have the 2tb. version and I love it! Best mini ssd I've ever owned.
Yes, mine has worked quite well so far.
Craig!, Thanks Much !.......and Have a Great Sunday!!!
Thanks and you too.
You sure find some interesting things to show. Thanks for sharing them.
Thanks for the feedback on the tiny SSD.
Now it has increased in price to $80 for 1TB, and $140 for 2TB
SSDs have skyrocketed lately. Wait for it to come down.
I have 3 2tb SSK's. They're brilliant.
They work good for the money. Thanks for watching.

Yes you would need a dongle until all iPhones use USBC. Thanks for watching.
Cute, but I'm already using drives/enclosures you showcased in past videos. 🙂 I am set for external storage.

Thanks, it's a nice small external SSD and does the trick with the nice speeds. Thanks again.

How does the SSK drive compare with the SK Hynix Beetle?
I have not used the SK Hynix Beetle.

Maybe but I'm just showcasing what is out there in the video. I do videos on smaller products to see what they are all about.
Yes, USB sized SSDs have been out for a while. SK Hynix has one. Other brands have been out for some time now.
he recommends me SSD external?
Not sure what you are saying
Too expensive and too slow with shit slc cache. I prefer using an enclosure with an ssd you did a video about in the past.
Everybody has different needs and this is just one option.
Pls share the cheaper version. When you add the enclosure and ssd, price is close
Alright!
