Before taking on his role with the 76ers, Nurse was the head coach for the Toronto Raptors. During his tenure with the Raptors, he achieved significant success, notably leading the team to win the NBA championship in 2019. His outstanding performance as a coach was further recognized in 2020 when he was honored with the NBA Coach of the Year award. In his earlier years, Nurse played college basketball with the Northern Iowa Panthers, where he developed his skills and passion for the game. Following his college career, he went on to play professional basketball with the Derby Rams in the British Basketball League, gaining international playing experience.
