Dio and Ozzy were rivals, sure, and there was a period where Dio was really down on Ozzy, right after Dehumanizer, but even then, in the interviews I've seen, at least, they were pretty civil to each other. Their styles were very different - I personally prefer Dio's voice and musical style, especially in Black Sabbath, but I have nothing but love and respect for Ozzy too. It doesn't have to be one or the other. They both made heavy metal more epic and more awesome.

Ozzy and Dio are great artists in their own way. They both had different career paths but they still wrote Metal's history. We shouldn't be fighting about who's best but instead unite and fight against all the shit that's being spawned daily on every radio station and that's trying to be fed to us, destroying what real music was about, that is to say, real instruments with real artists with talent and work behind melodies. METAL WILL LIVE ON FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ALWAYS LIVED WITH AND FOR IT!!

As far as all the Dio/Ozzy argument I think it was a good thing that Dio replaced Ozzy at the time. I know it was hell for Ozzy for a while but he showed what kinda guts he's got and pulled himself together and put out some of the best music of his career. We got a lot of awesome music from it if you think about it. I love Ozzy, Dio, and Sabbath and I'm really sad that Dio is gone.

Well I have both Ozzy and Dio cd's but if I am going to be made to have to choose between them, then in all honesty, I would have to say that Dio was definately the better singer and musical artist and he was helping to pioneer the metal genre before Ozzy came along. I'm a Christian too and love Sabbath, great band. What is most misunderstood is that actually there's a lot of really positive messages in Sabbath songs, Most of it was all theatre, Take a long look at the lyrics of After Forever - "Well I've seen the light and I've changed my ways and I'll be prepared at the end of my days". The whole ethos of the song is about those who don't worship God. Who'd have thunk eh? Mind you the same idiots who hate Sabbath hate Jesus Christ Superstar too...

I'm a Bible-believing Christian (I've been labelled a "fundamentalist"). I also love metal. I own thousands of metal albums, all of Dio's on vinyl. I have played guitar in thrash and death metal bands. Many hard rock and metal artists are born again Christians. Alice Cooper, Dave Mustaine, Nicko McBrain etc. The "Christians" protesting Dio's funeral were misguided at best & don't represent me. As a true Christian I was totally gutted when Dio passed away, and I sincerely hope he rests in peace.

Id just like to point out the DJ said at the funeral they played Jeff Buckleys song "hallelujah". Jeff did sing it on his Grace album and live often, wonderfully IMO. But, it's not a Jeff Buckley song at all. It was written by Leornard Cohen a good 2 decades before Jeff pulled it out. Many others have covered the song as well. Some reason people think its a Buckley tune... R.I.P. Ronnie

@Kilmarro I agree with what you are saying. It's like Whitney getting all the credit for singing a Dolly Parton song. But you have to admit, Buckley's version of the song not only pays tribute to a great songwriter and sentiment but elevates it to one that also celebrates the instrument that is the voice and makes almost anthemic. His version is far more fitting a tribute to such an incredible singer like Dio. And had Buckley not covered it, I doubt if they would have sung the song at all..

You must be kidding me. Not only did Ozzy make personal attacks against the band he was no longer in anymore, he also made them against Ronnie himself calling him such things as midget and dwarf and even attacking his stage presence. I do blame Ozzy for attacking the band because as a die-hard Sabbath fan i've supported everything they've done and believed in them with or without Ozzy. Ozzy doesn't define Black Sabbath. Dio was great and created millions of new fans along with platinum selling albums and sold out tours including headling Madison Square Garden 3x without Ozzy. For him to say it wasn't Black Sabbath anymore because he's not in the band anymore is an ego trip of monumental proportions. Heaven n' Hell is one of the best heavy metal albums of all time as rated by the fans and critics alike so Ozzy should have been a little more respectful considering he did pretty well on his own.

Also, in the film Lemmy, Lars Ulrich mentions the shorts Lemmy wears, Kinda REAL short. Hey, Maybe they work on Lemmy, But you won't catch me wearing them.

The fact is, there are a lot of religious themes in Sabbaths music. Geezer butler, the bands main songwriter, is a devout Catholic. Black Sabbath-the song-is a warning against following Satan...it's amazing how many 'Christians' don't even pay attention to the lyrics. Why, of course they don't, how else would they be able to rant? Kudo's for being one of the good ones, Chris.

Ron Dio was a great performer, musician, and great person.
All the ignorant followers fearing death, and actually doing the opposite of what Jesus profeses. Stop throwing rocks from a glass house, and live like brothers.
    Long live Dio!
    RIP
