When setting out I sometimes use Pythagorean theorem as well, so I get me diagonal measurements from corner to corner. For example if I’m write your measurements from diagonal corner to corner should be 10,295 mm

Looking forward to seeing more on this extension.

Cheers mate, really trying to explain everything to Drew the best I can! I think we'll tooth this one. It's very dependent on each inspector. But would definitely look alot better toothed 👌 Have a good weekend buddy 🍻
Nice one Izzy. That lad seems a good keen one. Listens, intelligent. Your a good teacher.. ps is that a new trowel? Noticed black handle. .or same one you bought at shop in Derby couple of months ago.?
Hiya chap! He's very keen, and it's a real pleasure to have him with me🤜🤛 Yes it's a new one from a new tool shop I went to in Weymouth, they have every single trowel ever made there😍😍
You don't perp trench blocks Izzy mate, they butt up and you fill toggle with mortar. Four bricks is .890mm you can get in a lot of trouble with your face bricks above the Engineering course like that ,them 10 Mills soon add up 10 bricks is a Bat,looks a nice big job though 👍
That's really strange cos we've always perped them up, and always seen people perp them up. But can't argue with you Andy👌 yea I got pulled on that just by someone else. Cheers Andy mate, hope your doing well and enjoying the sun!
@@IzzytheBricky I've actually just checked the spec on there website as I've only ever used them once years ago as we don't use them down here all founds are mass filled with 5 or 6 course brick to damp and it does say no perp, yep getting the sombrero out tomorrow 😉
When you're setting out it's how he said every 900mm so you put your tape on corner of your first brick then 900mm to the beginning of your fifth brick so point to point there's 4 bricks in that space and that's what he did which is correct.
Gr8 work pal but trust me in years to come you will have wished you had used a smaller trowel over the years. But Yer top work and well explained to the apprentice.
Spot on, bud.👍 We all did that back in the day.....massive trowel, lashing the walls up as quickly as possible....or so we thought! 10" trowel is MORE than enough
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping I'm good, Justin mate. By the way I wish they would call tennis elbow something else, it sounds like it's a bit of a laugh, but it's far from it....bloody agony at times!
Did you know that you can set up a brick clamp to take the arm work out of laying those? You can also lay concrete blocks with ease as well, just takes a little practice. Other Brickie's will look at you like you're a leper or something until you start launching them down. Trust me 😉
been there, built walls, even retaining 9" walls with 13" built in colums to a 5mm tolerance for fence panels, only problem I found with bricklaying is it bores the f*ck out of me
If you look at the spec of them trench block it says that you don’t apply a perp joint. You interlock them and fill the hole up. But it kind of goes against everything we know!!
Yea a few people told us that.but Ur right.. totally against everything we know. And regless of the"spec" I'll probably always continue to perp them up haha 🤜🤛 have a good weekend fella
Yea a few people told me that. But I've always perped them up. And everywhere I've seen them used over the last 8ish years I've seen them proped up🤔 but it's good to know that if I wanna go rapid, I can leave the perps off😂
A shit😂😂🤦🤦 we'll 900 is close enough for me 😉😂 what's the saying, machines work to the closest thousandth, joiners to the closest mm, Bricklayers to the closest mile😂😂😉 Hope your well fella, cheers🍻
@@IzzytheBricky never heard that lmao but yeah I try work within a foot hahah I've just splashed a footing bonded nicely (tape ) but the blues I'm using are 205 to 210 massive perps could easily get another brick I'm the wall but can't risk it due to not having the Facing bricks to check
@@IzzytheBricky if possible I like to do at least one course in normal Facing bricks below ground to bond it out then put the splash on I always find that's the best way keep up the good work pal
People misinterprete it when dry bonding your tape is on the first brick and 900 actually falls on the start of the fifth brick so you have 4 bricks in between that measurement.

Yes it's a new one from a new tool shop I went to in Weymouth, they have every single trowel ever made there😍😍
When you do extension do you charge just for outer shell?
Hi Jake, yes pretty much buddy. I'm a subby, so I have a set day rate I change for myself and my apprentice.
@@IzzytheBricky okay mate been doing sitework for past 8years but fancy going in to private doing extensions any advice mate?
Am I correct in saying with the toothed trench you don’t actually need to perp them?
Yea I've just been told that too mate. However, I'll probably carry on perping them up💪👌
Why is the line inside instead of outside
Do you actually have to put a perp on trench blocks , I mean I do but I remember from somewhere that you don’t have to
I think you do have to mate, maybe in some circumstances or different countries maybe not. But I've always perped them and seem them perped up👌👍
Well in site yeah because everything is pointed but apparently you just slot them together and fill the hole in the top lol
Gr8 work pal but trust me in years to come you will have wished you had used a smaller trowel over the years. But Yer top work and well explained to the apprentice.
I know mate, but for the time being..love it😂
Thanks buddy, appreciate it fella💪🙏
Spot on, bud.👍 We all did that back in the day.....massive trowel, lashing the walls up as quickly as possible....or so we thought! 10" trowel is MORE than enough
Jim my tennis elbow would agree 💯.if only i listened aswell mate 10 inch all the way to retirement for me now 🤣 .hope your well mate 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping I'm good, Justin mate. By the way I wish they would call tennis elbow something else, it sounds like it's a bit of a laugh, but it's far from it....bloody agony at times!
@Jim Newlands
🤣🤣🤣 i no its no laugh is it Jim painfull as hell .should be called hells elbow there that sounds like it feels .
Awra best jim mate 🤣🤣💯👍
Where is the steel in this fundation???
Also how much you pay for your laser?
Did you know that you can set up a brick clamp to take the arm work out of laying those? You can also lay concrete blocks with ease as well, just takes a little practice.
Other Brickie's will look at you like you're a leper or something until you start launching them down. Trust me 😉
I am impressed with how few bricks get a tap with the trowel, when I started I'd get punished for tapping a brick with me trowel.
Liked the rule of 3-4-5
Thanks mate, it's a great rule to stick with👌
"All fun and games" - well you make it look like that
I would not hesitate a second about hiring you for any brick job
Aah thank you my friend, do appreciate that alot! Hope your well fella🤜🤛👍
Wheres your vertical dpc should disc down to below horizontal
been there, built walls, even retaining 9" walls with 13" built in colums to a 5mm tolerance for fence panels, only problem I found with bricklaying is it bores the f*ck out of me
Quality vid gents
Cheers Ben
If you look at the spec of them trench block it says that you don’t apply a perp joint. You interlock them and fill the hole up.
But it kind of goes against everything we know!!
Yea a few people told us that.but Ur right.. totally against everything we know. And regless of the"spec" I'll probably always continue to perp them up haha 🤜🤛 have a good weekend fella
@@IzzytheBricky it just dosent look right without a joint!
Have a good weekend yourself 😀👍
Very tidy brickie izzy
Thanks mate
I like to dry bond dry
Izzy.! You don’t have to butter the ends up on those particular trench blocks, that’s why they are interlocking…..just sayin.!👍👍
Yea a few people told me that. But I've always perped them up. And everywhere I've seen them used over the last 8ish years I've seen them proped up🤔 but it's good to know that if I wanna go rapid, I can leave the perps off😂
@@IzzytheBricky thermalite are the only ones that do it ( i think🤔), I’m currently laying 7newton Celcon trench ……. God they are heavy.!!!!!!
So much important information, a pity that shaking camera obscures the process.
Cheers buddy, and I'll have a word with the camara man😂
13 inch narrow London Izzy .?
Yees! New baby😍
That brickwork is ruff as fk
Cheers mate😉😂
Nothing a good towel off wont hurt when they've gone off at end of day , I suppose when you lay blues there as clean as a whistle eh ?
@@anthonymclean9743 I know blues are a nightmare but that brickwork was ruff as fk
Also known as the hypotenuse 3sq + 4sq = 5
I always though the interlocking blocks don’t need a perp and they bond with the d**k and… 😂
Yea the spec says you don't need to. But every job I've ever done and seen done (site or private) we've always perped them up
Izzy i would like to cantact you i would like to learn more about this....
4 to 890 izzy lol 😆 you should see the site I'm on bloody 200mill out of level abit swearing got me through the day hahah
A shit😂😂🤦🤦 we'll 900 is close enough for me 😉😂 what's the saying, machines work to the closest thousandth, joiners to the closest mm, Bricklayers to the closest mile😂😂😉
Hope your well fella, cheers🍻
@@IzzytheBricky never heard that lmao but yeah I try work within a foot hahah I've just splashed a footing bonded nicely (tape ) but the blues I'm using are 205 to 210 massive perps could easily get another brick I'm the wall but can't risk it due to not having the Facing bricks to check
@@danielcolton3632 that's the problem mate, you can't risk it until you got your facing bricks 👌👌
@@IzzytheBricky if possible I like to do at least one course in normal Facing bricks below ground to bond it out then put the splash on I always find that's the best way keep up the good work pal
Rough
Good video nice job mate 👍, 4 bricks is 890 mm not 900 mm 😀👍
Cheers fella appreciate it my mate! Ah about the 4th person to call me on that🤦🤦🤦 Hope your well!
People misinterprete it when dry bonding your tape is on the first brick and 900 actually falls on the start of the fifth brick so you have 4 bricks in between that measurement.
U do the 3 4 5 before u start running in
How old are u
£2 a trench block sounds like hard graft to me
The only thing missing is some barmy joiner standing around saying we need the roof on for the weekend mind
😂😂😂 you know what joiners are like haha
Funny that brick layers almost seem to be in a good mood. Us plumbers are a grumpy lot 😡😔
Hahaha always smiling mate...cos I've not got my hand up a 💩 pipe 😉
Only messing buddy, thanks for the support mate
but great vid fella
Cheers fella
4 bricks is 890mm......
20 a meter is bad we’re getting 20 a meter for 4 inch just now
Hi Izzy, I work with darcy (rattlekings) I'm on her Tik tok lives sometimes at work, been a subscriber for a while mate and love your videos, I learn a lot from them👌 keep up the hard work mate🔆
Ayup matey🤜🤛 that's awesome mate, I met her and the 2 brothers this weekend, sound bunch of people 👍❤️
Really appreciate it buddy, glad you can take something away from these videos bud, that's what it's all about. Especially my new videos as I'm teaching Drew as much as I can. So it makes for quite informative videos😂👌
Thanks for your support fella👍
I'm currently an apprentice on site and get talk to like dog shit and ain't learning anything to great.. wish people were abit more respectful like your self mate
Sorry to hear that mate! Two things, stick with it and work on the things your getting yelled at for. Or find a new crew🤜🤛 give it another month or so, of it don't improve, move on. No need to be treat like shite, even if your bottom of the pile 👌
just a hobby he said
Get your labourer to load trench out right way so you don't have to keep flipping them. Also I was always taught to fill in hole off joint between blocks rather than peeping them
pythagorous theory 3.4.5
Very expensive way to do an expansion. Not used in North America. I am a bricklayer with 44 years experience.
An expansion? Cheers
@@IzzytheBricky Whats your question? Expensive but nice workmanship.
no need to perp those blocks
