@@Stucrompton1 hi stu great job, can you tell me when you build a porch do you have to work to an exact size or do you have some play to work it to your bricks and half bricks etc, for example if the customer wanted a porch 3mtr by 3mtr, and that landed funny on your bricks could you just go an extra half brick to make your runs easy, cheers
nice job and good technique but I've had 37 years on the trowel and can still remember the rollicking I got for tapping the level during my apprenticeship
Great work mate. Had to buy some bricks to fix my drain. Took me 20 mins to find 12 bricks that weren’t chipped up. Yes they’re less than £1 but just looks a mess when your finished!
All your vids are great but when you do brick laying your epic! Wish you had done these before though ha as this was the bits I struggled finding info on when I started on my extension, I'm finishing internal blockwork today 👍
hi Stu, neat work your doing, just layed engineering bricks but got them a wee bit dirty how can l clean them, been told to use brick acid but been told it can eat away the mortar joints. wot would you use thanks Dave.
Completely agree mate. We work hard to get jobs and hard to earn money and when we go to get materials most of the time we get a sub standered products. Great job tho mate
yes i have steven, i got my eyes on a campervan then i will be mobile but i dont know anyone down south so may need help, yes i can do some other trades aswell. :)
this is a very good way of bricklaying and thanks for it, now I see what I have been teach in theory by our lecturer but I am not yet touch the work. :)
Always happens when you get less than a pack of brick. Unless you go get them you’re self and pick good ones the lads in the yard just bash them about when stacking them and the ones that people take back cause there chipped they just send them back out the next customer as well .
Keep on with hand or forearm on that knee {keeps pressure off the back} and keep them knees bent. Just pointed it out for everyone else... You already know
Hi, what kind of money to do that , only, twice that height in concrete block cement rendered, include the digging of footings? A rough price , ball park?, much appreciated, thanks
It could be worst stu a few years ago I built a wall and when I was jointing up I saw the brickys nightmare . A serial number I felt like crying as luck would have it .it wasn't visible
Great video 👍 may I ask a question- how deep do you make your footer? Is there a general rule for footers - like 5 ft wall , use 5 inch footer, or 10 ft wall, use 10 inch footer.
I love watching your videos! Cheers from Canada! Silly question but Is it ever to late to get into the masonry trade? I'm 31 and have been interested in learning this for a while now...just haven't got on it yet cause a part of me is saying it's to late...thanks! Take care.
r w .... go for it, never to late to learn a new skill. As the saying goes, 'you're a long time dead', 31 is plenty young to learn a new trade. Good luck!
,I'm about to do my first bit of proper bricklaying, and that "dead-man brick" has solved a problem for me. Btw would you ever use a brick line level? or is that just a toy for amateurs :) Thanks Stu--You the Man
you can use whatever helps mate, i just prefer working with the level because you need a very tight line to use that and u cant always have a really tight line setting out because you may move brick
Pretty sure you should order 10% more bricks. to allow for chipped or damaged bricks. What I normally do. Unfortunately to will always get chipped or cracked bricks.
Hi Stu I am going to be building a single storey extension in Leigh around the end of July and I am looking for a brickie as the one I use has retired would you be interested
Could the chipped bricks not be taken back for refund, or pointed out at time of delivery? Or am I being naive? Great vids though - apart from the hideously loud music. Very helpful, thanks.
I notice that in some houses in England have five or six rows of stretches then one row of headers ! Are thay solid brick walls ? They're very strong looking walls ! English men are the best brickes I think ! I've seen some of the fine Tudor brickwork still there today . Cheers Stu 👍👍 Is that English Garden wall bond ?
Adding 10% on order to allow for mis-cuts or miscalculation is one thing, adding 10% because some of the bricks are damaged is another. It does not make sense unless the supplier is giving you a discount for the fact he is selling you second-class goods. No where else would you buy extra to allow for faulty goods. When you buy a new TV do you buy two just in case the first one doesn't work? When you buy 6 new pair of pants do you by 7 because you figure one or two might not be any good? No, you expect to get what you pay for.
Hi Stu Why have not returned the internal brickwork where the door is .saves on bridging the cavity at late date.. ie floor screed. Just like to hear your view on that.
You are the "Paul Hollywood" of bricklaying! Thousands can do it but not like you. Brilliant as ever.
Hah cheers nicnak

Great work mate. Had to buy some bricks to fix my drain. Took me 20 mins to find 12 bricks that weren’t chipped up. Yes they’re less than £1 but just looks a mess when your finished!

stu crompton have you ever thought about coming down to London to work? Can you multi trade? Could be added bonus for your acting, etc.
yes i have steven, i got my eyes on a campervan then i will be mobile but i dont know anyone down south so may need help, yes i can do some other trades aswell. :)
this is a very good way of bricklaying and thanks for it, now I see what I have been teach in theory by our lecturer but I am not yet touch the work. :)

Do you ever use ready mix?
Ok thanks
Maybe it’s time to invest in a new memory card, with the Quality of these Videos! 👍😂
Always happens when you get less than a pack of brick. Unless you go get them you’re self and pick good ones the lads in the yard just bash them about when stacking them and the ones that people take back cause there chipped they just send them back out the next customer as well .
What size cavity have you get there stu, got my first private coming up
Hi, the bricks should be double wall until top? Or only half? Thanks
Very smart stu did you do the garage?
Top job ive finished another wall meself 369 bricks two walls to be exact eitherside of a drive way
Gavin R small walls 396 bricks
david jones one before that was over 900 retaining wall down side of a house
Keep on with hand or forearm on that knee {keeps pressure off the back} and keep them knees bent. Just pointed it out for everyone else... You already know
Nice bud how long do you leave it till u starting pointing up
Very good.
Yes... u r professional.....
Hi, what kind of money to do that , only, twice that height in concrete block cement rendered, include the digging of footings? A rough price , ball park?, much appreciated, thanks
Where you from. I can help you . £250 a day 2 skilled workers
Exelente trabajo lo felicito mu gustan sus videos
Good work 👍
Simple question - what's the purpose of holes in bricks?
How did you make up the difference in the brick sizes?
Not sure what you mean John this is an old video
@@Stucrompton1 You said at the start that you could only get two different sized bricks, so where and how did you sort out that?
I see people checking the wall is level but how do you ensure it's plumb? I look at walls and it blows my mind how straight up they are built. Thanks
Ensuring the corners are built plumb, then running in between should be plumb as long as the corner is, when using a line, you can also use a profile
Yes 1st great work lad keep it up
It could be worst stu a few years ago I built a wall and when I was jointing up I saw the brickys nightmare . A serial number I felt like crying as luck would have it .it wasn't visible
How about doing some back to basics. Eg, how to mix mortar.
Look at my channel I have a video on that
stu crompton yes thanks stu just seen it. Good stuff. You make it look easy though. Tried building a smallish retaining wall last year. Took me ages.
How do builders calculate how to get the last brick to perfectly fit in the middle of a row?? Or does it not always work out that way?
Great video 👍 may I ask a question- how deep do you make your footer? Is there a general rule for footers - like 5 ft wall , use 5 inch footer, or 10 ft wall, use 10 inch footer.
(that music so loud.. I lower volume)..(Stu starts talking..up the volume,,music starts again.. MY EARDRUMS ARGGHHH!!!)
I love watching your videos! Cheers from Canada! Silly question but Is it ever to late to get into the masonry trade? I'm 31 and have been interested in learning this for a while now...just haven't got on it yet cause a part of me is saying it's to late...thanks! Take care.
Never too late buddy go for it
r w .... go for it, never to late to learn a new skill. As the saying goes, 'you're a long time dead', 31 is plenty young to learn a new trade. Good luck!
why you do not use horizontal damp insulation on the foundation?
Do you need different bricks for below dpc? Whats the gap between the outer and inner skin
spenceational86 frost resistant
How come you switched from ox then to Marshall town trowel then back to ox?
i just tried that tyzack trowel but prefer the ox im going to do a video about it
I see! Great work by the way!
,I'm about to do my first bit of proper bricklaying, and that "dead-man brick" has solved a problem for me. Btw would you ever use a brick line level? or is that just a toy for amateurs :) Thanks Stu--You the Man
you can use whatever helps mate, i just prefer working with the level because you need a very tight line to use that and u cant always have a really tight line setting out because you may move brick
That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Tony
Hi Stu. Will the inside brick be visible after the floor is poured? Just curious why you didn't put block in? Or is this the standard for the UK?
I use to work at a builder's yard and I always give extra because of that reason use to take the piss because I was a builder before I started there
Stu what camera do you use for your timelapses mate?
Beautiful weather for brickwork 💯👌 I’ve just completed a garden wall.
Send the pics in to email in description 👍
Top job,,,
thankful
Pretty sure you should order 10% more bricks. to allow for chipped or damaged bricks. What I normally do. Unfortunately to will always get chipped or cracked bricks.
How much would you charge for this
Maybe it's just the video but some of those joints on the front look pretty tight… 10mm?
Kevin Moore it’s either that or open up 100 mil, he made the best of the situation
Try doing penny joints at only 2 mil on restoration works....
Hi Stu I am going to be building a single storey extension in Leigh around the end of July and I am looking for a brickie as the one I use has retired would you be interested
How long you been on the trowel stu?
15 darr
Fairplay m8 can tell you love it , im 24 years in :)
nice one Darr pal
Where is the part 3 of this video
Ever work to 900s?
BOA TARDE STU,,TUDO BEM?
obrigado por isso meu amigo
MEU AMIGO PODERÍAMOS FAZER UM INTERCÂMBIO ENTRE OS NOSSOS CANAIS,,O QUE VOCÊ ACHA
Yes the chipped bricks is alway pain
Can u take a supporting wall down for business please?
I was told once to allow an extra 10% for the shite bricks in the pack.
Could the chipped bricks not be taken back for refund, or pointed out at time of delivery? Or am I being naive? Great vids though - apart from the hideously loud music. Very helpful, thanks.
Should be 10%extra stu for waste
Nice work but you should always allow 10% waste
good

Nice job....kno where your coming from with b.m. they dont give a toss what they give you it must a national thing grrr
Muito bom amigo!
Aways allow 5% on materials.
Awesome Bricky but your music in the videos killing me but of course I’m a American
Name and shame the merchant
To be fair, if you need 100 bricks for a job, you should be allowing 10% for wastage, damage etc.
My point it you order 100 brick because you want 100 brick not 90
Sorry Stu, should have put "adding", not "allowing". Nice job btw.
I can’t handle watching a bricklayer use a ox level only use stabila my old man would go nuts if I got a different level 😂😂
thats the trouble with society, scared of change and to be different. i love my level its brilliant
The ox level is better than any level I've had in the past fantastic bit of kit
❤❤❤❤
Those bricks are like seconds.
There like seconds.
I think that too mark, they were all shapes
