And the question: if the star ratings are only "inside luminar" does that mean within the current catalog? To make luminar more manageable I have multiple catalogs, ideally I'd like to be able to find images across all my catalogs. Sky replace is currently spectacular and I use it ALL THE TIME, especislly for birds in flight. Now I want a full background replace that works just as good. Photoshop does a good job of identifying the forground object and then proceeds to do an awful job of masking the image. This leaves me with a lot of work to finish masking the object so I cam replace the background. I believe Luminar could get this right.

      I For one am happy to see Luminar develop as a competitor to Lightroom and Photoshop - first by replicating the most useful features, and then by expanding upon them. If this new upgrades fills in some missing features such as color masking and color matching, then great. Keep it up ! IHMO Neo already has some things that are better than Photoshop - such as Relight and Sunrays.
      Maybe the Neo implementation of these features will be better, maybe worse - please keep an open mind until you can try them.

    • @rudigerwolf9626
      @rudigerwolf9626 Месяц назад

      @@Billwzw Thank-you. I agree. Luminar developing into a better version of Lightroom would be helpful to a lot of people. Frankly, my biggest issue with Luminar is not its ability to edit images. It is about managing the images. I love to go out and take pictures. I use a variety of cameras, including the iPhone. Sometimes several of us go out. We rely on Lightroom's ability to manage images. Digital Asset Management features are critical. Being able to see folders as they are on the various volumes, using the common folder interface of indented lists, moving images across folders, moving subfolders, keeping images and catalog on a NAS, culling images easily, identifying duplicates, collections based on keyword, Ai generated keywords, deleting images en masse, etc. That would make the cost of switching worthwhile.

    If you don't pay, it goes away.. just like adobe. In the fine print, those who bought a lifetime license, if we upgrade we only get the generative AI features until Jan 2026. Then you have to pay again to have those features. You have to read the fine print because the don't tell you up front. A sneaky way to get you started in subscription, because the AI stuff is not included in the lifetime license. If I wanted subscription or for my features to go away if I don't pay, I would go Adobe. I have not upgraded in a few years because I don't use Neo that much any more. The "AI" masking stuff was never very good. and the sky replacement always left artifacts. I am pretty much over upgrading Neo. No tool is perfect but this one has been very imperfect for a long time. The updates are not worth the price of admission and some of them go away after a year. No thanks, On1 is not perfect either but it works pretty good. But it is always good to watch your videos. It helps me make decisions on what to buy and what not to buy.

      That's not correct to my knowledge. If you stop paying you get to keep the last version you had when you stopped your subscription. That's the answer I was given when my students asked.

      @@DigitalPhotoMentor It is correct what I said. It is true, that if you get the upgrade, it will continue to work if you don't pay to upgrade again. Except for the Generative AI, read the fine print on the website, it is there but you have to go to the bottom of a long web page and dig for it.

      I believe they said that one comes out late this year (November?) but they should have shared that info when you ordered it.

    So still no key-wording or decent metadata support, in fact still no real dam? Neo is getting left further and further behind. Colour range masking is nothing great - it has been around for ages in the competition. You are flogging a dead horse, Jim. Sorry.

      Hi Colin, I appreciate the feedback and we can agree to disagree. The catalog/DAM is behind LR for sure, but these are steps in the right direction which are needed, but it's not even with LR yet. From an editing point of view, I believe Luminar works just as well with some unique/different/better tools than LR. And I love LR, and make some vids about it. It's a great product too. If you don't like Luminar, that's cool and no worries.
