David Palmer formerly of Steely Dan wrote the lyrics to this song. He sang the lead on "Dirty Work" and "Do It Again". David is multi- talented as a singer, songwriter, and his longtime passion for photo- graphy. He lives in Charlotte, N.C. where he has his studio, David Palmer Photography. I'm not really a fan of the arts but his work is unique and very impressive. David obviously has many gifts and photography is definitely one of them. I discovered this song in the early 90s and I've enjoyed her music ever since. She helped write a lot of good pop songs for other singer's.
Was feeling low and came straight here to CKs Jazzman!
This may be the best song that Carole ever wrote. What she could do in the studio was to double track her voice. You can hear it whenever she sings the words Jazzman. Listen for that!
So to be more specific she was singing both the A and the high D at that point?
The Beatles used that double tracked vocal technique all the time, especially John.
Overdubbing the singer's voice on the chorus is common. Robert Plant's vocals are overdubbed in Zeppelin quite a bit.
