    👍🏽👍🏽!! as a teen I taught myself the inside/outside crescent kick….
    “Because Bruce lee did that to the guy with the claws and I thought at the time it was the single most coolest thing I’d ever seen. 😂👍🏽
    That mule kick looks very useful, and super effective in the right situation….
    There’s a book called “the 150 kicks of Shaolin” (or something like that) I bought back when I thought I was 9’ tall and bullet proof. (27 years ago)
    Inside was a kick “my favorite” that I could never do without falling backwards called “the snakes tongue kick”
    I’ve never seen anyone do it, not even in a movie….but it seemed to be one of the most utilitarian in the book….
    Someone like you “if your interested” should totally try it!!
    You have two things going for you I didn’t have back when I was trying it…
    Talent and Skill 😂👍🏽
    It’s basically a front side mule kick on steroids
    (Name comes from body’s shape after landing…the body to be horizontal on bent knee, kicking leg out strait, and arms spread above head making the “fork of the snakes tongue”
    P.s. that scissor kick don’t work well on big brothers that stand still and let you try it on them. 😂
    I guess it’s gotta be a surprise type thing.

  • @chrisken8902

    Great! But the "inside" and "outside" crescent kicks - you should reach (to slap) with your foot to the outside extended palms, instead of bringing your palms towards your foot. This requires to twist your hips and torso when kicking, and lets you generate more power from the kicks ;)) Also the front snap kick - there should be a loud sound when your foot slaps the palm. That is a requirement for this technique. That's just a small but important detail. You are doing awsomely great !!!

    3:44 Continuous Sweeping Kick, eh? We have something similar (the exact same moves, with added flair) in breakdance called the Coffee Grinder

    Ive noticed that the official Shaolin Temple basic kicks are done while standing and stepping forward like you show here.. but in the Northern Shaolin that i learned, we would do most if not all these kicks in a low archer stance and not move forward but the rear leg would just go back into position. We would do all the forward thrusting kicks, back kicks, crescent kicks all from that low position. Of course, nowhere in our forms or basics did we have a roundhouse kick, I've always wondered about that.. but it seems that the inside and outside crescent kicks accomplish the same thing while being able to use the hands simultaneously as opposed to a roundhouse kick where the hands arent very useful. Awesome job on the variety of kicks you show here!

      Shenn Speaks I was made to do it in the way you described as well. Both are good to train. One teaches control and the other teaches advancing, among other things. I always like to see and hear how others practice their basics. It usually says a lot about their style’s flavor.

    I spent many years doing "air" kicks or slapping the hands against the kicks, which looks and sounds cool.. but after all that time I found that there wasnt the realism of hitting something for power.. so i made various padded kicking posts so i could actually kick and feel the power going into something.. a heavy bag doesnt seem to work well for this, so that's why i created my own training devices.. hehe.. I found that some of my awesome air kicks had no power and from actually hitting something, I had to re-examine how the kick can work to actually transfer power.. anyhow something to think about.

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry  5 лет назад +2

      Actually, on the subject of slapping kicks, I didn't learn this until meeting my most recent teacher. Any time you slap your kick, it is simulating grabbing onto something and forcing it into your kick. Like a head for example. I think it's pretty neat.

    It is always a possibility. It will always be missing something though because of the lack of a teacher and 1st hand experience. A lot of people train from online videos nowadays because of the lack of training facilities and that is fine, but if you have the chance to train with a qualified master go for it because Chinese Martial Arts have a lot of small subtleties that without proper guidance will more than likely will be overlooked. Good luck with your journey.

      Red Jade Martial Arts of McHenry YESSSSS! You go man! I just started studying up on Northern Shaolin, because I want to learn something physical during quarantine. I used to do a lot of Tae Kwon Do a while back, and while I know they are pretty different, I am hoping that my experience in that may help. The punching form and roundhouse kick seem pretty similar.
      Also I’m 6’8 and sorta heavy (as would be expected), so if I do manage to learn this my nickname would be the Volcano, as it was fire that drew me to it. The reason i’m mentioning that tho, is do you know of styles that would benefit a bigger opponent like me?

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry  4 года назад

      @@barretthoven Its not the style really that is used by different body types, but different body types give different advantages in any style. Being tall gives one an advantage of having reach and weight to use against your opponent. Though that being said, no matter what style you practice, those advantages should not be used as a crutch. That way when you fight someone taller or stronger you are not at a loss.
      But in the end martial styles though appearing different have the same base. Martial Arts is Pizza. Styles are toppings. First we find what toppings we like. Later we realize that it is pizza no matter what topping it has... Mmm pizza.

  • @spikey7454
    @spikey7454 5 лет назад

    it's quite good but when he does the sweeps, his standing leg is not low enough. Maybe he got power in the kick but he probably will only hit his opponent's knee or shin, instead of sweeping is legs away so he falls on the ground.

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry  5 лет назад +1

      I agree. Such is the curse of filming oneself doing martial arts and then looking back at it years later. It's quite embarrassing, but it's also good to look at to see how much you've grown.

    • @spikey7454
      @spikey7454 5 лет назад +1

      @@redjademartialartsofmchenry That's actually true. I'm practicing Seven-star-Mantis-Kung-Fu for nearly 10 years, and I looked back to old videos of me practicing forms, kicks etc. and compared them. I wouldn't say it's embarrassing, It's more of a proof that if you keep practicing, you for sure become better in it. And of course it's a lot of beautiful memories of practicing back in the day 😁

      Not girlish. But some of the techniques lacked intent. It is what happens when you don't know what a technique does. I've been there myself! 😸

  • @MrMaefiu
    @MrMaefiu 7 лет назад

    Is it really a good idea to put this on video? Only people who train really hard should be taught this art.

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry  7 лет назад +2

      If people can learn and master kung fu from a video, then they must be working very hard. Only so much can be learned this way without being able to touch and feel an experienced master. It usually results in "paper tigers", all show, no substance.
