    The tassel on a sword is there as a lie detector it says many things about the movement and energy and is a precious teacher .A metal blade when held out straight with its flat side up droops just a little by its own weight when one puts their chi into the weapon it flexes up straight taking the bend out the bend in the blade it becomes at this point alive . To practice just to get the form with wood is fine but if you are taking it up seriously there are active sword smiths in Asia On line .The length of a blade is from the tip of the index finger to the tip of the ear lobe when you point your finger at the ground get help with this measurement or use a stick and gauge off for exact size so the sword goes between those points handle included. The weapon becomes personal don't let others touch it or play with it . Could it be also that most traditional arts are grappling arts as well as strking arts? So, when I hit i want to grab immediately after? Or when im wrestling im combining striking with my wrestling? So sticky hands allows me to train that element of continuity? Continous pressure? That im not trying to disengage? Because Im always trying to wrestle after I hit or vice versa?

      @redjademartialartsofmchenry Месяц назад

      @@davidbarnwell6180 that’s exactly it. In Chinese arts, distinguishing between grappling and striking was more a modern phenomenon. Before it was said there are 4 aspects of Chinese arts, Da(hitting), Ti(kicking), Shuai(wrestling/throwing),and Qin na(locking/acupoints Striking). While some arts may prefer one of these methods over others, all 4 still make up the art. And with the constant adherence, there is non-stop pressure on the opponent. This would be the grapplers approach to chi sau but there are many other types for example in kung fu there is no limit on adversaries multiple fighters so in a massive brawl depending on it severity (one solution blows) are the recommended solution. Grappling is in that circumstance not a recommended approach as you would get badly cut maimed or killed as it takes to much time and energy and is way to vulnerable while fighting, but is fine one on one .

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry 27 дней назад

      @@mrvgranfield many associate the word grappling with wraps and locks and while it is that, it isn’t limited to that. Simple single throws are a part of it as well. This sticky hands exercise is about building sensitivity and swarming/sticking ability while fighting. It would apply the same to multiple opponent situations. The only difference is the weaving in and out of opponents and changing who you are sticking to at any given moment. As the video is presenting it in a one on one scenario and not showing how it would be done with multiple opponents, it is understandable that there would be misunderstandings about its application to multiple opponents. But we have to understand that the idea that this is solely for one on one is a misunderstanding. About grappling in multiple opponent fights, grappling is extremely effective, but not in the way some might understand grappling as being “entangled” with an opponent. Our Cheng style Baguazhang for example covers this well. It is essentially a wrestling style on wheels. Running and weaving footwork with quick, nasty throws. It’s approach to multiple opponents is to use its weaving footwork to get to the outer edge of the group and throw down the opponents one by one, continuing to weave to the outside so that we are only ever engaging one at a time. Considering that the earth is a non forgiving weapon when being thrown onto it, for many it will damage and take them time to get back up. In the time that one gets up, another is thrown.

    Great form! Dealing with hammers like this is guaranteed to develop upper body strength and make other double weapons forms (broadsword for instance) easier. There are many moves here that are also found in other double weapon forms.

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry 3 месяца назад

      Thank you! Melon hammers is quite a nostalgic favorite of mine. As you have said, there is a lot of cross over between these and other double weapons. Most of the principles and movements are the same. Some only notable differences is in melon hammers needing more momentum based movement rather than draw cutting and the lack of need for edge control. But the development of the body in practicing these is fantastic.

    Training these basic concepts is all well and good, but if you don't train live, against varying degrees of resistance, you will be unable to apply it in a fight. You're not alone in this. It is common to many TMAs.

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry 3 месяца назад

      Yes, I agree. However that is not what we are showing here. This is a breakdown of movements to show how they can be applied in a basic manner. This demonstration was never meant to demonstrate as actual fighting, but rather breaking it down to understand the fundamentals. Applications are like learning the ABCs while sparring is learning to converse and write. I also agree that many traditional martial arts practitioners lack sparring experience and it is a problem in the larger martial arts community. Though it is not a problem at my school. Everything I teach now was beaten into me through sparring under my teacher and his students and I do the same for mine. This video however is not about sparring, but about learning.

    In close range, elbows are propably better. If you distance your opponent, you make them be able to do a quick roundhouse kick or something similar

    • @redjademartialartsofmchenry
      @redjademartialartsofmchenry 3 месяца назад

      This is a wrestling type drill in which we try not to move our feet. This teaches control of our own body and how to control the opponent’s body and neutralize their force. When applied in a martial scenario we are obviously able to move our feet. So this would become an overwhelming force of strikes, destabilizing methods and throws. The theory in this training is that for every step you force the opponent to make that was not their intention to make and for every moment they are fighting for their balance, their attention is divided between fighting you and maintaining balance which means their fighting ability and options are reduced. In combat, elbows would be included in all that, but for this drill it is focusing on developing those wrestling type principles. And of course the heaviness spoken of here would also be applied to elbow striking.

    just a bunch of unrealistic silliness to me..why is your ukes left hand not in play? is he paralyzed on one side? so unrealistic and NOT based in reality..this is why so many martial artists get their ass handed to them in real life situations bc they think this bullshit actually works in real life.

      I love the martial arts , alot of the techniques I learned are super impractical in a real fight and made me wonder why learn a technique that's possibly going to get me killed just trying to attempted. Luckily my school taught us alot of ground and pound and joint locks take downs.
