All you have to do is remove the 3 black screws under the black tray and pull the tray out. Power wire supply are attached to plate. Install wires and cb. Shove it back in and replace screws. Much, much easier.
Not how I would recommend doing it unless you want to sweat and curse for an hour and cut up your hands. Once you pull off the front fascia there are 3 screws facing towards the roof that you remove and then slide out the tray that holds both the SmartLink transponder and CB mount. Then you can access the binding posts easily and strap down the CB before sliding the whole mess back in there. The hardest thing is shoving 10 pounds of crap back in a 5 pound hole, best to cable tie some wires together and make the whole thing tidy first.
So when I was calibrating it my was reading between 2 and 1 and I was fallowing everything you where doing but when I go to transmit I will bounce up above 3 in the red what do I do?
My 579 is exactly the same. It’s driving me crazy not seeing/finding my antenna wire. And I have the same peoplenet box in the way. I’m going to have to really open it up in there to find it. Do you guys know in what general direction the antenna wire is in that cubby?? Thanks for the video!

Going to assume yes but I had a problem last year where I don't know what happened but I was only hearing the radio from the radio itself so whenever anybody would try to communicate with me I had to turn everything else down.
Yes, the EXT. SP. port goes to your trucks internal speaker. The reason it's called EXT SP is because it means as opposed to an internal speaker inside the CB radio.
just noticed my copper wires and showing and I don't have what looks to me metal caps like yours or the bronze exposed wires covered maybe someone swapped out the cable and returned it and I got screwed...
Good install vid but ur rf gain needs to be all the way up and most likely the mic gain as well. Checking ur SWR’s does not change anything with the radio or antenna, its a test tool only. The mic needs to be right up at ur lips, that’s what rubber strip in the mic is for to be touching ur top lip as you talk. Later….TopGun123
That is a terrible location for a CB antenna. You're going to get a lot of RF reflection coming off the back of the cab. Also, it's going to hinder your transmit and receive signal, and the coax is very low grade.
I know right! Seems like it should hardly work! But you'd be surprised how well it works. I even pull reefer and it still works great. It goes against all knowledge but sometimes the practical solution is the best solution.
Turn the receive(RF GAIN) all the way up. And turn the SQL down until you hear static. Then bump it up until static is gone. Good video.

When you are transmitting, you are actually looking at the middle row, so if you are up near the top of the green on the middle row, you are good.

That whole tray pulls out where you were putting the black and red wires
So what happens if the swr is over 2? What do we do?
followed everything even made triple sure the connections were in by pulling out the tray and no power not sure what to do..
