    Your Citizens Band radio includes an array of controls for receiving, adjusting and listening to audio from other CB radio users. The radio's delta tune knob, also known as the clarifier control, reduces the amount of static present on the radio when communicating with another person. When turned one way or another, the knob reduces the pitch of the person's voice and makes the voice clearer and less squeaky.

      It was used back in the day to tune into slightly off-frequency signals. Today's radios don't really need it. That pot usually gets used for customizing radios now.

    Hi J, back in the day (here in New Zealand) when these Cobras came out they were top of the line and were really expensive if you could find one & were illegal as we were only allowed things like Tait CB4's using 2 watts AM with 9 channels, so I bought a highly modified Johnson Viking 4740 which had 80 watts using 26 and 27 mhz ssb that could 'slide' between channels going through a 3 element yargi.

    Delta Tune is only for the pros. What you do, is key your mic, and start turning tgat knob. Doing this, you begin saying the magic words, "Audie-audie-audio," ask for a radio check-- five times-- whistle a single note for a few seconds, and then (still holding the mic key, throughout) repeat the magical incantation.
    Finally, after at least forty-five seconds of constant transmission (repeating all the previous steps if necessary), you announce your handle, and say "How about that [insert other obnoxious guy's handle], you out there?"
    Only at this point can you release the mic-key, ignore any radio check you previously requested, and repeat your own handle and the station you are calling.
    No matter if anything is heard, you key up again, laugh uproariously, and say something like, "Roger, I'm going back quiet."
    Yes, I'm talking about you, "Old Man in the Garage."
    All this teasing to beg you: Stay off of channel 19, and better yet, stay off of AM. DX-ing is okay at the top and bottom of the band, but best if using SSB. 19 is truckers speaking locally, and dealing with sever weather, accidents, or just chatting. Just because you don't hear us, does not mean we are happy about you ignoring what we do with radios.

    here to go in depth with the pa function! i run a system twice as loud as a typical police unit! it all starts with an TS mono plug adapter to rca female ports. from here i ran an rca cord to a 200 watt rms amplifier and the wired it to a high compression driver and a huge 18 inch bull horn on the top of my van. you will need an amp because the cb its self does not produce many watts. its quite hilarious the reactions i get when i roll through town on my pa making heads turn from 5 blocks down. the simply will not happen with out the amp! i have also decibel tested my pa and it peaked at 142 db max! over 40 db over your typical car horn! also dont forget to run a delta ec1 echo chamber with a really good power mic.

    I had a Radio Shack TRC-424 in 1980. I attached the PA output to an an external horn speaker under the hood. If I switched the radio from CB to PA then I could be outside the car and hear what others were saying on the channel if I was out of the car. I would turn up the squelch so I would only hear people close by me and not hear static. I could also talk into the mike when on the road to say something to the car in front of me.

    Delta tune....it’s like this. If the radio your listening to is transmitting at 27.3848 (.2 KHz off frequency), the delta tune can make up for that. In the Amateur radio world, it’s called “Receive Incremental Tuning” or RIT. The two are the same. It’s simply used to make up for the fact that not all radios are tuned perfectly, kinda like an idler wheel on an engine...it makes up for slack in the belt.
    Now when you transmit on your CB it might be off a bit as well..say 27.3852 (also .2 kHz off frequency) the other cb operator would turn their delta tune the other direction that what I mentioned above...but, when both use it properly....you sound like your on frequency.
    In short, if CB radios were better tuned, one might not need to even use the delta tune feature. Unlike amateur radio, CB is a channelized service and “should” be on frequency. But....each manufacturer of these radios does it different and to make up for it...you have delta tune.

    • @iainmeteorscan1555
      @iainmeteorscan1555 Год назад +2

      Hey Guys - The Cobra 29 LTD is an AM-only rig, and as such the DELTA TUNE is pretty well useless, since an AM signal is wide band and most users would never notice any difference whatsoever by using it. In a similar vein, the RF GAIN control should actually be labelled “RF ATTENUATOR”, because that is what it does when it is turned anti-clockwise - that’s why most users use the RF Gain on maximum! It’s there to fool users into thinking they are adding RF gain to their incoming signal!
      The same can be pretty well said for the DYNAMIKE control - it’s an attenuation control to reduce mike gain NOT increase mike gain - again, that’s why most users use the DYNAMIKE control on or near its maximum setting! Such controls are known in the trade as “bells & whistles” - the more “bells and whistles” controls there are to fool the purchasers, the more dollars can be charged for the radio!
      Having said all that, the Cobra series of radios are reliable and give superb performance. I run its big brother - the Cobra 148 GTLDX FM, the all-singing and dancing AM/FM/SSB/CW version, on both CB and Ham 28/29MHz Bands, and it holds its own against far more expensive Ham Radio proprietary brands. Long live Cobra!

    I noticed one thing that was unclear at lease to me when you key up the green rx/tx light should turn red that means you are talking 7:12 time stamp he says it should be green when you talk but in fact it should be green all the time unless you key up and talk when you key up it should turn red meaning you are not receiving anymore and you are transmitting good video driver

    Just subbed. Have a new 10 m radio. I live in s Florida and not much "action" for my 11m. So I know I can't talk on the 10 without license. But more channels to hear besides the Super Bowls... swr is tricky with not a lot of wide open areas to calibrate. I got a ranger n99-2. Want to calibrate for shtf days. Any vids on 10m? Thanks

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  Год назад

      I really don't do anything on 10 meter although I have 10 meter radios they are all on 11 meter. There's some action on LSB 38 and a few others you just have to find them.

    As far as channels go, what's the basic channel that most people use? Or do you just change channels until you hear someone?

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  2 года назад

      When on the interstate truckers use 19. In different areas you may find locals on other channels that are on base stations, then there is the party channels like 11, 6 LSB 38.

    I’m trying to decide whether or not to add a cb to my GMRS radio in my car, or just have the GMRS. Have you noticed a reduction in CB traffic over the years? I head some truckers are switching to GMRS or even digital radio systems and that a lot of people don’t use CB much anymore. But I would like to have a form of communication where I can call for help to near by trucks if there’s an emergency

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  Год назад

      A lot of new drivers don't see the value of CB. Some drivers possibly use GMRS because they haul agricultural and use it to communicate with the farmers.

    • @RyanMinney
      @RyanMinney Год назад +1

      GMRS would be good if you talking to very specific people on very specific channels.
      CB is effective because everyone has one everything important on the open road is gonna be on channel 19. Your gonna get traffic, speed traps, and people acting like jack holes.

    • @Michigan_Tactical

      CB isn't used as much in my area. Probably because of cell phones. Sideband is pretty active.

    Has yours ever blown a fuse? As soon as I turn my key it blows. I read that sometimes you need to reverse the pos and neg (incase the truck wiring was messed up). Tried a bigger fuse but it keeps blowing. Maybe a defective CB?

    • @jrichtruckincbtips
      @jrichtruckincbtips  Год назад

      Probably just pulling too much power and you need to go directly to the battery.
