  • went out to drop in my lobster traps and managed to catch a blitz a low tide in the mouth of the river. I don't know if it was hookset rust or just fast fish, but I missed twice as many bites as I hit. Ended up catching 6 fish in the 23-27-inch class all on a small sand eel/shad imitation. Videos will be coming out weekly now that summer is here so subscribe for more and feel free to request any content or information you would like to see me cover in the content section. Nothing like getting into a feed like that. Hitting the Piscataqua Monday! Can't wait. Glad to see the mackerel in pretty early this year also!

    Nice to see them arrive! Nice little session there. They should be hitting our Waters up in PEI Canada by next week! Cheers, great video!

    Good video. I'm a fan. I fish a couple hundred miles South of you but the addiction is no different. I love stripers!

      I appreciate it. We are pretty lucky we get them half the year as opposed to just a spring and fall run. However we have to resort to ice fishing 3 to 4 months a year to scratch the itch

      Seeing smaller fish is really encouraging but if we see all those big fish again it will be awsome

    Nice work Cap! Piscataqua is going off as well. Even finding some Macks already. Link to the sand eel shad you were using? It looks like a Tsunami, but none of their split tails have that same look.

      Good Eye, they are an older bait i stocked up on a while back, but Tackle direct has them.

    I have a question for you man, I am visiting for the month of July from Florida in kennebunk port and was wondering if you had any suggestions geared wise for shore fishing for stripers there

    • @FishingWithBoyt
      @FishingWithBoyt  Месяц назад

      Long medium heavy rod, talking 8 ft that can handle 20 or 30 lb braid. 5000 size spinning reel to go with it, good for both castong and bait fishing. I'm very partial to penn, especially the spin fisher or conflict lines. 30lb to 40lb florocarbon leader. For lures the feed of choice for stripers up here is mackerel, herring, bunker and sand eels. So lures that imitate those. Big buck tails, swimming yo zuri, hogi jigs and soft plastics, storm swimming shad, top water poppers and stick baits. You can't go wrong with bait though. Circle hooks and sliding waits with fresh caught mackerel or bunker chunks are best but sand worms or surf clams still catch fish. For timing. Dawn and dusk. I like low or the first half of incoming tide. Highly recommend stopping in at Saco Bay tackle on rt one in Old Orchard Beach. It's probably 25 to 30 mins up rt 95 but they have everything you could need at pleanty of Intel on where the fish are. I'm going through my surf bag for my next video and there will be links to a lot of the lures, we are also running a tournament mid July. Good luck, I hope you get into the fish.

      @@FishingWithBoyt do you think a 5k shimano ultegra with 30lbs braid on a 7’6 bull bay heavy 12-25 up to 1.5 oz lures would work or should I get something a bit bigger

    • @FishingWithBoyt
      @FishingWithBoyt  Месяц назад

      @samn4611 that should work for lures and most bait fishing. only issue would be distance casting from shore and if you needed to throw bigger lures or heavier weights for bait fishing. With current coming out of the rivers I go up to 3oz or 4oz weights and lures some times.

    • @samn4611
      @samn4611 Месяц назад

      @@FishingWithBoyt I also have a diawa saltist 20 that I could buy a surf rod for to throw those bigger weights if you think that would work I just want to make sure I’m prepared

    • @FishingWithBoyt
      @FishingWithBoyt  Месяц назад

      @samn4611 wouldn't hurt, guys catch 40 inch plus fish all the time from shore. I personally use a 6000 penn conflict on a 8.5ft hybrid custom surf rod. I rarely feel like it is too much rod

    My two boys and I are going to be near you on June 24th. Do you do charters? We'd love to hang for a day of fishing. They are 12 and 15.

      @FishingWithBoyt  Месяц назад

      Unfortunately I don't do charters yet. Still just a captain but not a registered maine guide. I can definitely point you in the direction of the fish towards the end of June though.

      I say it often but Saco Bay tackle in Old Orchard Beach has everything you'd need gear wise and all the current fishing Intel.
