Texas A &M should be in probation for buying players and their parents with cash under the table !!
@@kevincuzalina3857 irs isn't happy with them
"Because memaw was a real one"
Probably my favorite Pate quote of all time. Flawless in context, still funny without context.
Was gonna say the same thing before I saw this posted in the chat! Hilarious 😂
Came here to say the same thing 😂
It would not surprise me at all if Texas A&M fired Fisher because they already had a "yes" from another HC candidate.
Wouldn’t surprise me
from what I've heard from Billy Liucci (who is the main insider information guy for A&M), we don't have a guy lined up right now. But honestly there's been so many conflicting things being thrown out that it's hard to tell what's true and what isn't
It would surprise me. That university is the king of mismanagement and poor decisions
Would certainly surprise me. Wrong time of the season to fire a coach and expect to have a whale on the hook. Two years ago the AD ballooned the buyout from $20M to $76M. If he was running a publicly traded company he would be out the door.
Oregon is a fantastic job and I think Dan Lanning will have a ton of success there. As a Georgia fan who loved the job Lanning did in Athens, I hope he eventually leads the Ducks to a national championship. Always kind of liked the Ducks too.
A&M is also a great job. They are located in a talent-rich state, pay extremely well, and have strong facilities and fan support. The fact that past coaches have bombed there doesn’t mean they can’t win more with the right hire. Hopefully they will hire a quality head coach.
I think Texas A&M should have Memaw on the hiring short list. 👍
Memaw is winning the ship in year 2.
I think there’s a “your mom” joke in there somewhere
Gig ‘em 👍
Oregon never won a conference title before Mike Belotti (mid-80's). Florida was a sub-500 program with one conference title before Spurrier. Florida State was a girls' school before Bowden. Washington was nothing before Don James. Miami was a nothing school before Schnellenberger and Jimmy Johnson
Mike Bellotti won his titles in the early 2000s. The one before that was 1994. There were five conference titles before that 1994 one under Rich Brooks. I get your point, Oregon wasn't a power. But it's just factually incorrect to say they never won a title before Bellotti. Brooks started it, Bellotti continued it, Kelly took it to another level.
@@kyletucker3811
It wasn’t till Brooks hired Bellotti as his OC in the 80’s that turned Oregon around. Brooks never did much prior to Bellotti. Yes, it turned over while Brooks was the HC, but I credit Bellotti with Oregons rise to where they are now.
@@kyletucker3811Mike Bellotti was the athletic director overseeing the program during the time Chip Kelly was HC. Bellotti is the lynchpin to that program’s rise.
Howard Schnellenberger built up Miami, Jimmy Johnson just kept it going. What Johnson built was a program that has caused people to want to rip them off every chance they get for the last 35+ years.
I like Jimmy, but Jimmy is the reason it's hard to be a Miami fan. Miami isn't good enough to have to beat the teams and the refs anymore.
Having previously been a GA/assistant at Alabama and Georgia, I can see Lanning staying at Oregon and gaining a couple years more experience, and possibly moving into the Bama job once the GOAT retires.
Lanning wouldn't take the Alabama job if offered. No coach in their right mind would want to step into Saban's shoes right after he leaves otherwise they're constantly being compared to and criticized for not being as successful him. It's just a setup for failure. Plus he doesn't really have much personal connection to the program other than being a grad assistant there for a little while. Now if the Georgia job opened up he'd probably consider it but I don't see Kirby Smart leaving any time soon.
That’s Dabo job when Nick leaves if he leaves😂
@@TimS-i4v I hope the hell not, Dabo is still playing 2015 football.
@@glenpark4373this is a joke right? Whatever coach that takes over for Saban will have a cupboard full of 5 star talent to work with. Not everyone is a scared pussy to follow greatness. No offense
As an Aggie living in College Station I can tell you Josh is right. There will be a statue before the confetti settles of the coach that gets us a National Championship. That person’s name will be the name of ALL the children of Aggies for generations.
Jerry Sandusky
😂
Oklahoma had already announced it was leaving for SEC which is probably why Lincoln went to SC!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dan Lanning had the smile of a child in a candy store when he talked about the recourses and possibilities of Oregon.
The underbite of a child
Aggie Reaction:
"Then look no further than Lincoln Riley"
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
"to USC"
oh just a comparison
The facilities, the stadium, and the housing is the draw. And money is never a problem.
What about the male cheerleaders?
To compare it to baseball for a second, TAMU reminds me of the Red Sox. During the 86 years they didn't win a world series, they were "cursed", surely they'd never win. Then they got the right people in the right positions and all of a sudden it was a great job and "of course you can win it all in Boston".
The problem now for A&M is that even if they get the right guy, the SEC is going to be more loaded than ever, so it'll be hard to finally win it all
Fair comparison to the Red Sox. On the other hand, the reason most teams winnimg the NC are from the SEC is because of that competition. If you win the SEC, most of the time you have what it takes to beat anyone else.
Baseball isn't football..
A&M will also get to play more current SEC east teams with the change from conferences to whatever we’re doing now
One of my favorite customers is an Alum of A&M, I can always tell when he is calling in too, his caller id shows as: AGGIES RULE!
Josh Heupel. He coached at Oklahoma who recruited Texas very well.
Though I love to see Aggy nation in disarray, I whole-heartedly agree the job is elite. That's tough for me to say as a lifelong Longhorn fan, but true is true. Thanks for the entertaining takes (especially the reference to Memaw). Horns always Up!!!
I'm curious what Gary Patterson could do with A&M resources and recruiting. I know it won't happen but personally I think it would be a good fit.
always been on the fence about Pate but after this Im on board. Well said on all of this
Dude does the work. This is what professional journalism looks like. When you see how he separates opinion from information, how he supports his opinions with developed facts? Yeah, that's The Job, and he does it very well.
Man O man JP, you couldn't be more spot on. I'm a Longhorn fan and I would LOVE for you to be wrong, but you are spot effing on. Money is king.
Texas A&M is absolutely an elite job opportunity. I’m curious what other programs Josh thinks carry the elite job title. Being an FSU Booster, Graduate, season ticket holder and lifetime fan I’d like to understand what other programs have that draw to take elite coach talent. I was a little sad when Jimbo left FSU for TA&M but I’d be devastated if Norvell did the same thing.
"That's like acceptable fall weddings: they don't exist anymore"
Bars.
Your explanation made more sense in this video than last time regarding the "elite job" vs "elite program".
I was mostly floating Dabo as a joke because I think it would be funny if they hired him, I feel like it could be Jimbo all over again. But Dabo did not say no in that quote 😂
Kirby Smart leaving UGA is about as likely as me winning the Mega millions AND Powerball lotteries back to back on the same week! Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? No.
Bro we need you to name names!
Jeff Traylor. Case closed. We don't need a big name splash hire! Traylor is a legend in Texas HS football. He can recruit! He's a young mind and a COACH!
The Eugene area is too beautiful to leave. If you live 20mins outside the city, you have a little piece of paradise. Every outdoor activity, lots of wildlife in your yard, 40mins to the ocean, and so on. Plus the fans are very loyal.
MeMaw was a real one got me! 😂 💯
Would A&M ever do what Oregon did hiring a first time HC? That's what makes the Ducks
special. Thanks to Rob Mullens the AD.
The most successful HC in A&M history was their DC promoted to HC, R.C. Slocum
@@paulsbunions8441yep! People just love talking out of their ass about a school they know absolutely nothing about.
@@kadedavis9270he’s not asking has it ever happened before. And promoting from within is different than a brand new head coach from somewhere else who has never coached before
@@SuperJuggerNog and what we're saying is "Yes, they've done it before and would do it again with the right candidate"
Urban and Stoops to be honest should be the coaches being offered seriously for the job or Dabo if you really think you could get him away from Clemson but if by some miracle you could put in a interim coach for next season and get primetime after his sons gets drafted that would be amazing
“Explain Dabo to me.” Ok, in Dabo’s own words, when he arrived and was successful there was an appreciation, not an expectation.” At TAMU, the boosters have huge and immediate expectations. Case in point, Jimbo’s plaque at the introductory press conference.
Yes, TAMU has vast resources, a willingness to invest, and a good conference. To be successful though, the new coach will have to be able to navigate the boosters and their say.
This seems to imply that boosters are overbearing and try to override the coach's decisions, which has absolutely not been the case at A&M. They're excited for sure, but if anything they're excessively supportive of coaches like Jimbo or Sumlin. They gave Sumlin a helicopter to fly into high school games. It's not a hostile relationship due to high expectations. The only issue the boosters cause is that they haven't hired a good coach yet. But a good coach won't have to navigate the boosters
Your point is why I quibble a little with Josh's assessment of the A&M job. There is obviously a lot of good for all the things he mentioned, but your money guys are desperate and want to have their initials on your success, but will have nothing to do with you if you stumble.
Elko is the only one they should be going after. Sec is all about D and he's by far the best out there.
The only disagreement I have with you about the Texas A&M job is that they do not check the box of, "Are you the big brother?" Texas is the big brother. In Georgia, UGA is the big brother, Tech, State, and Southern have no chance against UGA.
once josh gets cookin its a sight to behold
I will never forgive these doubtful Clemson fans if they push dabo to go.. Dabo is a top 10 college coach all time.
Spoiled fanbase
Was. Man has failed to adapt.
Clemson fan here. Dabo isn’t going anywhere unless bama calls, even then he may not go. Spoiled, yes in a good way. There are always people in a fanbase that want to fire a coach, but that doesn’t mean the entire fanbase thinks that way. We’ve had a down year, but Dabo will get things back on track. Failed to adapt? Sure he failed to adapt to ESPN’s SEC and BiG10 supremacy narrative by beating many of those teams on a consistent basis. ESPN has never recovered from 44-16, and they hate Dabo for it. People seem most upset that he doesn’t use the portal because he happens to believes in his recruiting process. How dare he recruit kids and develop them as opposed to ditching them to bring on portal guys. Dabo has never done things the conventional way, but his way works. Clemson will be back as strong as ever with Dabo at the helm.
NIL jumped aggies job up from top 20 to top 5. It's the state of the sports.
A&M is a top job and anyone that thinks otherwise needs to re-examine the facts. A&M has unlimited resources, they're literally one of the richest universities in the country and they SPEND on athletics. They're in the best conference in the country, they're in arguably the best recruiting grounds in the nation, they sell out their games, and they're about 100 miles from two huge cities, both Austin and Houston.
I'm not an A&M fan or alumni, but I do live in Texas.
The problem is college station.
The best town around !😊
You've clearly never been to Baton Rouge lately, or Norman, or Austin (today's Austin is a drug and homeless infested hellscape), or Clemson, or Auburn, etc

Josh, what 12 programs do you consider elite? And what would it take for good teams to become elite.
(You mentioned Oregon as elite, and they were a dumpster fire in the 70s and 80s, so they have only been good the last 29 yeats).
Mike Elko please
I don't disagree with this one.
I'd be happy with either him of Jeff Traylor.

If you do get hired as the head coach of TAMU, I hear they have REALLY good severance packages if it doesn’t work out…
Josh knows about memaws. My Memaw was a real one. Gig em
You are right. Texas A&M CFB HC is an elite job.
It will probably be easier to state in these terms, so that the less informed will understand: Texas A&M CFB HC is an elite setup for the right guy.
If someone wants to make a name for themselves, they can try going to Alabama or Ohio State or USC... but they would be just another guy who won a national title at a blueblood program. But the first coach to win a natty at Texas A&M will be on another plane of existence! If that same coach can win two or more national titles over a 6+ year period... they will join the ranks of the all time elite coaches.
A&M has all the resources, has already won the recruiting battles, has all the money, and is in the best location available in college football. It is the perfect setup to allow the right coach to rise to the pinnacle of the coaching world.
A&M is an elite situation. The opportunity & resources make it a top 5 position in the current CFB world.
James Franklin is who my guess is he’s talking about. Either him or kiffin
What about Gus Malzahn? He’s a winner, by the books, did a great job at Auburn
Your Lincoln Riley example is funny. You said that people thought that maybe he would go to LSU because maybe he wanted to be in the SEC... and then OU took care of that after he left. Nope. Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma AFTER they announced the move to the SEC. In fact, it was months and months after the news was public. The OUUT move to the SEC broke in the summer of 2021, and Lincoln Riley left OU in November of that same year.
No one thought that he wanted to go to the SEC... in fact it was widely rumored that he left OU because OU decided to go to the SEC and leave the Big12.
Not a big deal to the A&M story, but just a funny nugget of information.
The ironic thing is that Lincoln Riley wanted to stay in the Big12 because of the relatively easy path to the CFP. He moved to USC because he thought he would quickly build up another easy path to the CFP by dominating the relatively weak PAC12... and then a year later USC announced they were moving to the Big10! LOL Bit of a backfire decision there.
Hopefully we can give Glen Schumann an interview. I believe he’s the next Kirby Smart
Well said ...good show
I mean you gotta wonder why despite having every shiny silver spoon imaginable in their mouth, A&M has continually been wrong about the “right hire”. So many lesser programs have bungled their way into good coaches and championships and even just better playoff success than that cult could muster.
Because there are very few elite coaches. I mean elite enough to build , manage and develop talent all at the same time. There are only a few.
7:20
Man you are slow
Name one besides Clemson. Auburn is around the same level of program.
The big donors want to control coaches. It happened at Tennessee with the Haslems.
Yes a&m please just keep throwing money at the problem- sincerely from a UT fan

Megan Rapinoe
Bill O Brien
@@asuhdude6668 you ain't gotta lie Craig, you'd hire her
They should hire Connor Stallions, that guy will do anything for his team to have a winning season
Texas A&M is not an elite job. If you have to have “the right guy”, a unique guy-the best places still do pretty good even if they don’t have the right guy. A&M just doesn’t have the leadership, location, and culture to be elite.
Can we please get a "memaw was a real one" shirt pls. with a fat tomato or pumpkin as the O on the word "one"
A&M should go rob Clemson of Dabo...perfect fit for the good ol boy club. Hell, he wants to coach in the SEC.
Not every program can knock it out of the park with hiring the right guy to be the head football coach to go win them a national title like LSU did with Coach O! Hopefully TAMU was taking notes! Also, I hear Coach O is available TAMU, just saying!
So Urban is unemployed....would he go to atm??
He knows how to grind, but I don't think he is grinding out wins anymore
Glen Schumann will be announced as head coach after the national championship game
Before you call it a premier job, take a look at the last time this program won anything significant. Yeah, they will throw money around, but it never gets them anywhere.
Phil Knight aint gonna be outbid Lanning staying put
The only way a program like A&M will ever be successful winning national titles or heck even conference titles is make it clear to the money people that they have no say in coaching or managing of the team period. They agree to pony up the money get out of the way and trust the coach to do his job.
Laning is smart, he'll take the ducks to several Pac-12 championships before he looks to return to the SEC. Dabo isnt wanted by A&M, hell Cle.son doesnt want him anymore as he refuses to get with the times and recuit properly.
I would say thw A&M job is a great job. The issue I see is that it is a natty or bust job. You've got 4 years to win a natty. There is something going on in College Station that is stopping them from winning. When you are that committed to winnimg and you consistently underachieve you need to figure out why. Maybe it's the coaches, idk. Jimbob did win at FSU though. Something is holding them back and people will point to coaching. I think it's something else.
Coach Klein who starred in waterboy is being interviewed...
I have to teach Bjork how to make a deal with new head coach: if new HC wants 10 years contract with 80M buyout go ahead to give him with 1 condition: if you don't improve and we have a right to kick you out. In 3 years if you don't win the conference, we will kick you out. In 5 years if you don't win a national championship, we will kick you out.
There has to be other issues going on there. Jimbo at fsu had that team year in and out as a very good team. Given the ACC is the blind and deaf conference. Doesn't matter who you bring in at A&M until that issue is solved they won't do any better.
Jimbo's last three years at FSU he lost 3 or more games. That's equivalent to 4 or 5 losses in the SEC West. The one time he played Bama he got destroyed. His offensive lines struggled and his QBs paid the price. His offenses after Winston were terrible. A&M should have seen that coming but we were blinded by the W/L record
Look up how many Presidents and AD's they've had in the last 10 years. It's a SHIT SHOW and JP can't see it for whatever reason...
A&M hasn’t even won a conference championship in 25 years, despite all of their money and recruiting advantages. They have a bizarre culture that somehow makes winning at the highest level impossible even with the insane amount of money they’ve spent. It’s embarrassing.
Do you do you remember how like Dan lanning he said he's not leaving Oklahoma

I just hope whoever they hire, the fan base (talking to myself as well) understands that next year and the year after that maybe rough if not more mediocrity. Sometimes you gotta take a step back to realize your potential.
Oregon job is better than A&M
Glenn Schumann
I've always thought Oregon was an elite job. You had a better chance making the playoffs in Pac 12 than the SEC. Of you're a good program you have a better chance making playoffs from Big 12 or ACC than the SEC.
Texas A&m have all those resources and STILL can't get anything done. Not a top tier position, unless tour only in it for the $.
Bobby Petrino should be the top choice!
Nike University is way better than any program in terms of apparel and money for it. Nike has money and gives it to Oregon in more ways than one.
In my opinion any power 5 college in the state of Georgia, Florida, or Texas has the potential to be an elite job because those three states consistently pump out the very best recruits.
Yeah, Kyrie Irving said "im not leaving" too. Difference between dabo and other coaches is he doesnt care if hes misunderstood, this is his usual response around this time of the year when big jobs open.
No. Texas folks. Florida Rules!
Well, it stops being elite to many coaches once they actually visit Collie Town
Please explain why aTm is a elite job??? I just don’t see the hype or the thing that makes this program any better than other openings that will be available outside of location and being in the SEC.
Second tier job football school when did they make playoffs national championship? Maybe in 20s or 30s
I honestly love and respect Dabo. I believe he’s a good, principled man. I’m not sure his skin is “thick enough” for the SEC, though.
Fire the A&M AD, Ross Bjork!!
I know who it ain’t. Coach Saban ain’t going anywhere but to a broadcast booth, and that will be when he chooses
Shit I wish theyd hire me. Id love to work a few years and then get paid that money because I did my job so poorly.
Any school overlooking Gary Patterson is very foolish!
Gig ‘Em.
Dabo?? But i know dabo would love to get the bama job one day since he played there. But i would prefer someone different. Whoever replaces saban one day i feel sorry for. They won't live up. Roll tide 🌊.
I definitely prefer someone different. I would prefer to have Dan Lanning, Kirby Smart or have saban groom someone under his coaching staff just like Coach K did at Duke. I don’t want Mike Norvell, Brian Kelly, or any other coach in the power five.
A&M only recently became an elite job after they moved to the SEC and Johnny Manziel took the CFB world by storm. Before that, the boosters didn’t have the same commitment to funding the program like they do now.
Dabo won't allow transfers... he'll be lucky to stay at Clemson much longer as NIL eats his roster over time. I would think that would be a deal killer in most jobs.
The UTSA and KSU coach would be the best fit. Will they do that, unlikely.
