I still have yet to hear a comparison between this: tube preamp into simulated poweramp (e.g. Kuassa Pillar Poweramp plugin and an IR) vs modeller preamp into tube poweramp.

I think the first time I saw Engl was in live footage of Dimmu years ago, I've always been curious about them but never enough to go down that particular rabbit hole. Right off, I'll say without hearing how it sits in a mix (which of course changes everything) I actually kind of like the sizzle with the presence and treble turned up a little. Oddly, I have mixed feelings about the boosted tone in this example, I'd probably want to experiment with some different options and spend more time dialing.
i really hope one day they add the mk2 amps in... also, a bit ago i was watching a video on Obscura recording their last album and i noticed they had some interesting settings. they had bass to 10, mids at 0, and treble around 6 i think, cant remember presence. I've tried it with the servere 2 on my axe fx and it gives, albeit a very scooped sound, a very good lead tone in my opinion

Nice cover! I use the Severe 2 almost exclusively. It's kind of a goldilocks amp for me with hot passive pups in drop B or A. I can also get 5150-like metalcore sounds out of it, which since I don't have EMG's is kind of neat. Somehow more saturated and articulate at the same time compared even to the FAS Modern and 5150-based models, which to me are muddy, mushy, or noisy. Precision Drive is also a nice pairing if you want something really hairy, but then it loses clarity quickly.

God the stock settings even sound wonderful. gobbs of gain. Ya gotta love it. ❤. Fractal just has the best tones. I would love to own an Engle even though I would never be able to play it out, but it would be worth it just to play at home and crank it up. 😂

Hi @leontodd , have you ever tried creating akira takasaki’s tone from loudness ? Would love to know how to get his tone on the axe FX , it has a bite which is really cool , I believe he uses Marshall’s and friedmans .
