Love the video but I have question. Since posting this video, have you found a free app or inexpensive hardware for the m3? The intervalometer on Cascable is only with the pro version and cost $30us. I may be willing to spend that kind of money on a piece of hardware but not on an app.
tyrone dejesus I’ve stopped looking since finding the app, actually, so I haven’t found anything new. I don’t think there will be any hardware made for the M3, as it’s been a while since it was released.
Hey Jan! I'm glad you like it :) I always place the songs I use in the very bottom of the description to all my videos. You are super welcome to subscribe and check out my other videos, as I only use my favourite tracks in the edits :)
Thanks for making the video and suggestion for the app! Just some follow up questions: Using the app with the M3, how do you find the battery life (since a constant WiFi connection needs to be maintained)? How many shots can you usually get? What about the range (i.e. How far can the phone be away from the M3 and still be connected and working)? Lastly, have you heard or know of a way to hack and attach an external battery pack or battery grip for the M3 to really extend the battery life for longer time lapses?
+T Sizzle Hey there! These are some really good questions that I really haven't fully gotten the hang of myself. First of all, I don't think there is a way to see the battery life while shooting, as far as I remember. You could maybe tweet Cascable at @CascableApp and see if they know anything about it. The toughest conditions I put my camera through with interval shots were around -2 degrees C at a 25 second shutter and a 5 second interval between the shots. The battery lasted just over one hour. As for the the connection distance: it's only around 3-4 metres for a decent connection. Otherwise the shots start becoming inconsistent and the camera might loose signal. I really don't know about an external battery, but would love one myself :) Maybe there is something on eBay? Hope I could help :)
Hey Brianna :) Thank you for watching and subscribing, it means so much!!! I film with the Canon EOS M3 in this video. The lighting setup is fairly cheap and you can get it pretty much anywhere :) Just an open window on a cloudy day
+Stevie J hey Stevie, I'm not using any filters and I am just using the kit lens (18-55 mm) for all my shoots, as that's the only lens with a good enough aperture that still supports image stabilisation. Thank you for watching and your kind words :)
George Schnipper well great video editing or settings because your videos look much better than mine. I have the 11-22 that I'm trying to sell. Because I bought the Sigma lens and don't need it. Good Job
Hey george! Thanks for the video, i was looking for a great app to do timelapses with too with my eos m3. problem is that i could find the application, i think its only for iphone. Do you maybe know if theres an app like this available on the android store? cheers & ill see you new stuff soon!
Hey there :) I did mention in the beginning of the video that you need a device running iOS 9 or later. If you scroll down the comments and find Moxey Munchies' comment, she explains how to get her Android phone to control and shoot timelapses.
@@georgeschnipper That was quick! Thanks.. haha I haven't really tried time lapsing on my m10.. but I will try soon.. just watching tutorials on yt on how to. haha :P
Haven’t used the app in a while as I’ve switched to a cinema camera, but yes, I believe you can use your phone for a short period of time while it’s shooting
You can also use Time Interpolation -> Frame Blending @ speeding up a regular video in Premiere Pro if you wish to have a "blurry crowd" timelapse. But especially for long exposure timelapses this is going to be very helpful, thanks! Great video!
+Hyperlaze premier is not an option for me, it's too windowsy, and I love shooting my stars so can't give that up :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
Been on the same journey for an intervalometer :P Thank you very much, will try this as soon as i get home. The LCD screen stays on though, while using the app, right? Because I'm kind of worried about battery life :D
TheNeicul Hey there, thank you for watching :) Yes, it does. The camera screen, however, is non-functional while using the app. It just says "Connected to..." or something in those realms.
The battery is a slight drawback, to be honest. I can only get a solid hour out of shooting 25-second-long exposures with a 2 second interval, but I don't really think that the app is the cause of this problem. The battery in the EOS M3 is quite weak itself (or maybe I just need to get a completely new battery).
Tested it yesterday night. I put my Ipad next to my tripod on the ground, and connected via WiFi. I then started the Intervalometer with 13sec exposure and 20sec interval. The display on my camera shut off after a few minutes, so that was actually not even a problem. After around 1 1/2 hours and 250 pics i stopped the photo series. Looking at the battery indicator, i was still at full charge. Finally, after taking some photos and videos today on a walk, the indicator jumped one level down. So far very pleased with the battery consumption, that was way more than i expected. I could surely go on for 2-3 hours.
To be honest, I haven't done the research on how to do star trails, but I think you set the camera to bulb, shoot several images at a very long exposure and then just stitch them together in post, right? If so, then yes, the Cascable app does allow for bulb exposure :)
Great video! it's all the video filmed with the Canon EOS M3? (cause i am seraching for a good camera for vlogs and "face to face" lol sorry if it have no sense i am not english xD)
I found an app that works for all cameras for Android. You only need a IR blaster in your phone (most do). It's called DSLR remote. *edit: wow Moxie munchies found the same app as me! That's so cool, I wish I didn't have to do that much searching online.
Hmm... I don't think if I know of any. Though, I know that the M3 allows for NFC connection with an Android-run smartphone, so maybe there is an app out there that can do intervalometer shots via NFC?
George Schnipper further researching , my android phone actually is one that has IR so I found an app that does it through IR and will try that. Kind of a pain system, but may work! I just bought the M3 for my videos but also happy to discover things like this to get me to use more!
I really hope it works out for you, as I did purchase an IR 3.5mm plug for my phone and none of the apps worked for me :( But the M3 is a great camera for filming, also in terms of expanding your system to new lenses!
FYI if anyone else stumbles upon this in the future, I DID get the camera based IR (mine is LG G3) to work with the "DSLR Remote" app on Android. Just did a quick test of it, but it did in fact work. :) Still fussing to get NFC to work but I'm happy with that start.
Thanks for sharing. I actually thought I needed an Android phone to even setup wireless sharing. Who would have though you just need to press up in play mode?!This was really useful.
Hey there! I thought about this as well in the making of the vlog. I don't expect software, such as Cascable, to be free. Lots of people work on a quality product that you can download. If the M3 had the option to connect to a wired intervalometer, I wouldn't go into a store and request a free piece of equipment. The same goes for this app. Besides, the price for a quality intervalometer for a Canon camera starts at ~$40-50 and using Cascable would save you money in this sense. And unlike hardware, you can't break or lose your software. I think $25 is worth it, don't you?
Of course. I just didn't know if your viewers were aware of the charges, as I didn't seen any mention in your original video. I thought maybe after this creation, they made the up charge. Either way, you are exactly correct my friend. $25 is a very affordable price. I actually did buy the bundle......Keep up the good work..
Thank you for sharing this video, mate. Downloading the app to use with my M3 now. And yes, I subscribed (I watched until the very end before subscribing so yes, I'm a bit weird.)
For my videos I normally go with auto. As for my timelapses, I set up my shutter speed first (according to what I want my timelapse to look like) and then adjust the ISO and aperture :) And thank you!

Damn dude the transitions/editing/cinematography is dope. I can only hope to get this good.
That Yo-yo intro...awesome editing man
Thank you so much! You have no idea how much it means to me!
What about android?
Cool work! I also like the music a lot, shazam does not show any results. Can you help? Cheers, Jan

hey!! I'm a new sub! I was wondering what you were filming with to do this video? And your lighting set up? it is perfection.

Yes, Canon EOS M10 is supported by the app.

Yeah for sure it well! Thanks for the help! 😊
perfect! was looking for this for so long! Great choice for the camera too :)

Happy I could help out!
Can you use your phone while doing a timelapse with this app
Haven’t used the app in a while as I’ve switched to a cinema camera, but yes, I believe you can use your phone for a short period of time while it’s shooting
Is there an android option?
Was this all shot on the M3? Looking to upgrade to one of these from my small point and shoot elph120
Yup! Most of my videos are M3 footage. I tend to film on the iPhone and the GoPro sometimes as well
You can also use Time Interpolation -> Frame Blending @ speeding up a regular video in Premiere Pro if you wish to have a "blurry crowd" timelapse. But especially for long exposure timelapses this is going to be very helpful, thanks! Great video!

Yes, it does. The camera screen, however, is non-functional while using the app. It just says "Connected to..." or something in those realms.
Alright. Can you talk about how long a full battery charge will last with this app? Would be sad if i can't do 2 hours of timelapse or something
The battery is a slight drawback, to be honest. I can only get a solid hour out of shooting 25-second-long exposures with a 2 second interval, but I don't really think that the app is the cause of this problem. Sure thing :) I appreciate it!
Hey Cascable, make on for Android please!
Hey there :) If you scroll down the comments and find Moxey Munchies' comment, she explains how she got her Android to control and shoot timelapses.

Hey! Thanks for the positive feedback :)
you could do all this, or you could just install magic lantern.
As far as I know, there was no ML for EOSM3 at the time of the video upload. Are you sure they have created a version for the M3?
Don't see a main build for M3?

Thank you❤️ This actually does mean a lot to me, nobody seems to appreciate this humour
It can seem frustrating, but keep creating, and keep posting. You are well on your way my friend. Whether that be in front of or behind the camera!
