I'll not argue the technical points made. However, there is an important practical aspect that I this was missed in this review. I bought this camera for two reasons. First is that I wanted a light, portable, easy to pack around all day camera. The camera body, 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 22mm, EVF, 90EX Speedlite, charger, and batteries weighs in at tab over three pounds and slips inside of a general purpose backpack. The other reason, an this is what's missed in the review, is that I needed ab backup camera for my full frame Canon DSLR. One brief mention is made of the adapter for EF and EF-S lenses, but that is a very important aspect of this system for Canon owners. The fact that I can use my L series glass with the M3 makes the choice simple.
Sir I couldnt agree more my EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and my EF 40mm f/2.8 STM and lets not forget the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM. This and the Adaptor are a match made in Heaven for me as a vlogger and youtuber
With a built in EVF, new DIGIC 7 processor, 3-4 more lenses, and 4K video this camera would be rocking. Come on Canon and the EOS M4, we will be cheering for you.
TheVFXbyArt Its a money making tactic for sure, but it should be packaged it. And in some ways, a clip on viewfinder can be more convenient as a way to slim down the camera when not in use. I will wait for a future model of the EOS Mirrorless line where they make something like the panasonic gx series or sony alpha/nex style body where the viewfinder is off to the side. In my test of the sony nex 7, I find that an offset viewfinder is so much more comfortable to use as my nose doesn't have to press on the screen..
Luckily for us in Australia, not only did we get the EOS M3 first, but we got a choice between a free EVF or free Lens Adapter. I grabbed the EVF because a lens adapter came free in the box with my original EOS M. I really like this camera. ☺
+Tianna Brown The EOS M3 by a mile!!!! I cannot stress this enough. I love both cameras and often shoot with both around my neck, one with an 11-22mm wide angle and one with the 18-135mm lens for general street photography. I took 1600+ shots on the M3 and about 200+ on the M at a festival on Saturday. Jumping from one to the other always makes me realise there is a massive difference between the cameras. The M3 is WAYYYYY faster in every possible way. FAR faster focusing, faster between shots, faster at flicking through shots on the screen or zooming in and out when reviewing shots. Faster generally navigating between menus, faster at starting up. There is a world of difference between the cameras. With the focusing, not only is the M3 many times faster, but it often focuses on things straight away which the M might struggle to even focus on at all. I noticed this the first day I bought the M3. The screen is better on the M3, it is sharper and more legible in bright sunlight. Because you can tilt the screen too, it extends the advantage further. Battery life is very good on the M3 and pretty lousy on the M. Ignore Canon's claims. I get about 300-350 shots on a charge with the M and well over 1000 on the M3. I am a fast shooter though and get on with taking shots when the camera is turned on; I don't walk around wondering what to shoot while the camera is turned on. In terms of image quality there is not a huge difference, but the M3 images are slightly cleaner at higher ISOs which is a great job by Canon considering there are 6 extra megapixels. There is more detail too due to the extra MP. I have posted some images from both cameras on a website, but I have been too busy to update the images and separate them so you know which camera took which images. At screen size you would never notice a difference anyway. As soon as I get a chance I will add a ton of images and have each camera shown separately.
I am baffled as to why reviewers complain about the lack of an external viewfinder on a mirrorless camera. The whole point of having a mirror is to have a viewfinder, and now that the image is displayed digitally, the mirror is no longer necessary. Adding an external viewfinder to a mirrorless camera seems illogical and backward.
+Norbert S A viewfinder is still incredibly useful for using in bright light, stability, and better gauging exposure. Also, all of the M3's major competitors have one. Jordan @ TCSTV
+Norbert S Well, this particular camera should have an EVF for its price, and preferably a built-in one or at least it should come with the detachable one but that one is bulky. I have a GX7 and love it's EVF; use it half the time. Before that, I was using an E-PL2 and after some time got a detachable EVF (the VF-2) because I needed it for the reasons Jordan mentioned above. However, it's cumbersome to use and popped off numerous times (luckily didn't loose it). I wouldn't get a mirrorless without a built-in EVF anymore.
Very silly, and the reason Canon has failed so far. People want viewfinders. and avery company making mirrorless makes cameras with viewfinders that add no real bulk. You might want to sit down and study the A6000 or a6300 from Sony to see how it is done. Then there are all the Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic cameras. Not to leave out the A7 series that has been ricking -- I guess if Canon wants to make toy cameras that is their decision. There's a reason the M series has been a dismal failure so far.
I had the first EOS M and nothing compared to it when they dropped its price to $250. Great build quality, very useful touch screen, good image quality and after the firmware upgrade decent AF speed. It was one of the most underrated mirrorless cameras and the M3 follows it. When Canon will drop the price like they did with the M it will be the best buy! :) What I noticed with the flip screen cameras I tend to use the EVF much less but sure an internal EVF would have been much better just like the flash.
Pop.Up When I had it as a walk around camera the 22 f2 and the 18-55 kit lens was enough and I had the Canoon lens adapter which I barely used. Now a decent UWA and a 55-250 is available and the 15-45 is coming. I am not saying there couldn't be more but I think the intended market has an OK selection.
Lofote What does it mean "beat it"? I had a nex-5n which I couldn't get along with. Terrible menu system and useless touch screen which was better turned off. For me there is more to the camera than list of features, dxo mark scores etc. My opinion is no way an absolute statement neither yours. We all have preferences and from the selection of cameras available on the market today everybody can find something that suits his/her needs. I agree with Chris, walk into a store and try it you might like it (or not). I know this from my experience as I never considered buying the first EOS M but it was a really nice camera to use and it had good image quality.
+Tamas Varga the speed is extremely slow. that is something i "feel". i also have large problems with canon sensors on dynamicrich scenes (sun and shadow).
I almost want to buy this as a secondary camera. I agree with Chris. Love the way it feels. The menus are great, size is great, and the touch screen is great. But the video side is horribly lacking. I personally don't mind that it's a 1080 camera, but can we really not get 1080 at 60 fps? A built in view finder would be preferable. The view finder on the a6000 is not so great, but it's better than nothing. That pancake lens is cool. There's a lot of potential in this system, but it just falls short for me.
+Brian Wiemer Photography I have one as a secondary camera and I am very happy with it. I am not into video though, so that makes a difference. Video quality is not bad with a decent lens and you get full manual control over video while shooting. The external EVF is good, especially if you get it for free as we did over here in Australia. What type of video work do you do?
Not much at the moment unfortunately. Really it'd just be nice to get some decent looking slow motion at 1080, but then I'd have to upgrade to a 7D Mark II. Mostly doing stills now though. I'm thinking about just putting my money into some more lenses. My friend has an A7r II, and I like it a lot too, but I'm not totally convinced that now is the time to jump ship (or if I even should). Decisions. I'm not sure what the deal is with the EVF here in Taiwan. I'll have to take a look.
Brian Wiemer Photography I only have 2 issues with Sony mirrorless, or mirrorless generally: they're so fiddly if you have large hands and don't compare with a DSLR for handling. I have never seen a reviewer disagree with this. Secondly, Sony menus are a disaster. I don't shoot video, but that is going to change at a hobby-level, but I think the way those cameras overheat while shooting video is unacceptable. If I was seriously into video then buying a camera which overheated and stopped within 15-20mins would not be a feasible option.
cooloox I completely agree with you. I love the way my 6D feels. I don't have any problems with weight or handling at all. I've also never had it do anything weird or stop working. It's an extremely stable system. I've gone back and forth thinking about it recently, I've decided to just wait it out with Canon and see what they do with their next line of full-frame cameras. I think they have a lot of challenges and expectations to meet, and I'm really hoping they bring something new and compelling to the table. In celebration of this decision, I've gone out to purchase the 100mm L Macro. In regard to the Sony A7r II, I still think it's a compelling camera. The only issue I had with the handling was that my pinky had nowhere to go. The menus are tricky though. I'm sure you learn how to work around them. Overheating is unfortunate; however, there are a lot of features I enjoyed while using it. I really liked the viewfinder, and IBIS is a huge win. I was also shocked by the accuracy of the eye detect focus.
+Brian Wiemer Photography Congratulations on your new macro lens! Thank you for your thoughts on the A7r ii. Sony are definitely making big efforts towards creating the perfect camera. Come on Canon, wake up and respond!
+matrodfilm Thanks! I've been experimenting with Color Finale for FCPX and I really like the results. Until RUclips goes and adds a bunch of magenta to three shots.... Jordan @ TCSTV
Compared to the 60D, is the performance ok? Better? Not so good? I mean, I had a 60D and loved that camera, but now I'm thinking on buying this one (M3). Thanks!
I thought this was a tough but fair review of this camera. The sub-$1000 mirrorless segment is really in a weird space right now. Sony's A6000 is still a great choice but with their announcement back in August that they were going to focus on their full frame offerings, it makes me wonder if they are just going to abandon the entry-level mirrorless segment and just have the RX100 IV and RX10 II carry the water on the low end. Then you have Nikon with their J series which never really took off. Canon has this and the new M10 which looks solid but unexceptional. Honestly, taking everything into account, I think the Olympus OMD-EM10 II is the strongest offering in this segment right now. Even though it has a slightly smaller sensor, the overall functionality of the camera and the lens selection make it the most compelling option in the sub-$1000 space for mirrorless right now.
Solid video as always. I really enjoy your attention to detail when you review each camera. it's refreshing to have a channel that knows the technical, creative, and everyday usefulness of a camera. Keep it up.
I picked up a canon m3 for video Vlogging but the focus is still pretty bad. Wish they would have added the auto focus that the 70D has. I will be using manual focus on the canon m3.
I produce studio type videos for RUclips and have a budget of about $600-800 for a mirror less camera/lens. My main factors is having a mic input for a Rode Video Mic Go and being able to shoot 1080p at 60 frames. The only camera that keeps popping up is the M3, as the Sonys do not have a mic input. What would you recommend?
+The RCNetwork The M3 doesn't do 1080p @ 60fps, only at 24 and 30. Canon's new G5x would work but the Panasonic G7 would be the best option, plus you could shoot 4k if desired though their 1080p looks good as is, www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g7. You can get it for $600 now w/ 14-42 lens (28-84mm). I have an a6000 but the g7 is really tempting.
Thank you for a great review. One of the best I have seen. I purchased the EOS M3 and admit it has some shortcomings but over all it works great for me and does everything I need from it. I am a backpacker/hiker and this camera works great for me. Thank you again for the very informative review.
So I am trying to decide between the Canon m3 or Sony a6000 for a small vacation camera. Which do you prefer? Will be shooting at Disney and Universal Studios night parades and fireworks.
Thanks for the review. I have used this camera since it came out in japan. They offered a deal where they practically gave you the evf. While i agree on his disappointments, it won't stop a good photographer from taking great photos. One solution to the lack of lenses is to get a eos-m to leica lens mount and use rangefinder lenses. They are small, very high quality, and since they are manual, the focus speed of the eos-m is irrelevant. Either way, i can't argue with the fact that there are better camera systems out there in the market.
I have owned this camera for about a month now, after breaking my Samsung NX1000. I am only an amateur photographer and still learnign a lot. However I am really enjoying this camera, I find it easy to use and the shots I get are awesome. :)
Hard to understand why Canon is struggling with this camera when all their Dslr's have generally excellent focusing speed. No EVF, shockingly bad buffer when shooting raw, sever lack of M mount lenses doesn't really do it for me. For $1000 there are just much better options in the market. Great review as always.
+Howie Mudge Yes AF is good on DSLR, but that is phase detection AF, not contrast AF like on this camera. If they used sensor from 7DmkII it would be much better
ObelixCMM I think the problem for Canon in mirror-less is every one else contrast AF is far superior (even Fuji) and the likes of Sony, Fuji and even the Olympus E-M1 have hybrid af systems which are just far superior.
It's actually MUCH faster at focusing than it appeared in the video. Keep in mind you're using a dedicated phase detection sensor on your DSLR. How many DSLRs can get even close to this camera at focusing when they're in live view? This camera is permanently in live view. At all times what you see is what you truly get! You're seeing a simulation of the image, with whatever WB, exposure compensation etc. and with a nice histogram and digital 2-axis level. Touch a face and not only is it tracked, but the camera meters off that square, so spotlit, backlit, whatever - you get correct exposure without manual intervention.
I bought a M3 two years ago for around $275 and love it. The AF object tracking is not bad for what its worth, and AF is a bit slow. Than again, I am mainly shooting stills. However, I still would like a EVF, IBIS, faster AF, better face/eye tracking, and a higher number in drive mode. So I am looking for a new camera while still enjoying the M3.
One thing I really enjoyed watching in your review was the video part where you had the camera trying to stay focused on the reviewer as he moved around. I'd love to see you doing that particular test on all cameras. To be fair you'd have to shoot them all indoors in similar lighting. I thought the EOS M3 did a good job.
Even in 2020 there is only one native bright prime EF-M lens by Canon. However Sigma has his series of APS-C f/1.4 prime lenses available with EF-M mount too.
What brand you recommend for the mirrorless camera? I've been really confused choosing a cheap mirrorless camera between this, Sony A5100 and Fujifilm X-A3. I watched this video and your comment makes me more confused lol Thank you
Thank you very much for all your reviews! I was wondering, I'm torn between the Canon Eos M3 and the Panasonic Lumix G7. Do the extra pixels really count?
Hi there i just want to know if it is good enough for vlogging, video shoot for music video, and short films?? Btw not gonna use professionally just for a starter who wants to learn abt these things
+TheCameraStoreTV will be be getting a review on that Beholder gimbal soon? I'm thinking about that, the Feiyu or the new DJI Osmo. Need to make a call soon for some work trips and the LA Auto Show.
Which lens is this? I am thinking of buying this camera but I dont know which lens to get if it doesnt come with one (i think if i buy via mpb i will only get the camera without a lens). And the lens i see in this video is exactly what i am looking for because it is so small and doesnt add much to the weight. Perfect for traveling and vlogging
I dont have a problem with the EVF. I think I'm gonna put rode/xoom recorder in the hotshoe, and its the only camera with 3.5mm input jack. But the AF-c, is really a dealbreaker.
where I am located they have had the M3 for a while, but it isn't sold with the adapter, and i'm not even sure if it's available, and I wouldn't buy it unless I new I could use my nice glass, I do really like the feel of the M3 in my hands, but I am still waiting and waiting to see a new replacement for the Sony A6000 and A7000, and also the fuji XT1 and Xpro 1, but it seems to be taking forever, one thing i would of liked to of heard more about in the review is how the M3 works with adapted glass, and how it's focus speed compares with maybe an A6000 using the same adapted glass
+photographerjonathan I got the EVF for free in Australia when buying the M3 and had a free lens adapter when I bought the EOS M, so I got lucky. The M3 is terrific and way faster than the test model in this video. It actually focuses fairly quickly.
Hi TheCameraStoreTV, I am a beginner and I want to have the mirrorless camera but I can't choose which is the best mirrorless camera that suits my needs. I can't choose between this camera Canon EOS M3 or Sony A5100 or Canon G7X.. I would use the camera for taking photos such as landscape, people, street , food and mostly indoor like taking photos of my artwork portfolio.. and maybe a little bit of video.. which of this 3 mirrorless camera you would recommend? your comments are highly appreciated thank you so much in advance God Bless!
Well, the m3 does have superior image rendition to the gx8(+ z17) or the a6000(+ sigma19/sony20) with the 22mm as a compact stealth street walker. Add the fact that you can adapt the amazing pancake 40, that's a big deal to consider.
First rendering is debateable. It has good noise performance but not great dynamic range. it's also about 3-4x slower when shooting raw images. Doesn't have ibis evf nor weathersealing of the Gx8. And then we come at crappy soft video vs one of the best 4k capability on the market
Mustn't confuse dynamic range with contrast. There's recovering a shadow then there's hdr, then there's exposure incompetence. Speed matters less in real world still subject "sightseeing" uses unless camera user is "chasing something moving" perhaps doing squirrel photography on an daily basis. What will the 4k everyday video user do today? :-D
Are you on tour of competitor camera shops in Calgary? I saw two in prominent view. Which begs the question of just how many people buy cameras in Calgary? I ask because the modern dynamic Capital City of Wales, Cardiff, has maybe three dedicated good camera shops plus the usual department stores, but mainly John Lewis [a very premium and successful modern store]. I live 100 miles away but go there often. The next nearest excellent camera store is Carmarthen Cameras, about 30 miles away from home with no specialist rivals in between. This one is successful due to its web site and Ebay and Amazon sales that supplement a busy, well stocked little shop.
+Serenoj69 I beg to differ, but I may have different needs to you. I own this camera and know exactly what it can and can't do. If I bought a different brand in the same price bracket (where I live) I wouldn't get a better camera unless I bought a DSLR.
For Vlog'ing; two reasons to get the M3 vs. the Sony : 1. The M3 has an aux mic input ! 2. With the genuine EF-EOS M lens adapter, you'll have a center of gravity tripod socket; use a bracket grip with acc shoe for your Rode Mic! With the amazing Canon EF-S 10-18mm IS STM Zoom, plus a GorillaPod Hybrid, and you have the perfect Vlog'er...
I was curious about the video quality, specifically about moire which handycaps my Sony A72 and the a6000 and others so badly in wides as well the dynamic range~ beyond a medium shot on one lens inside. It felt really phoned in. You made your point about being uninspired by it but we could have used some examples.
do you think it's best to get the m6? is it a big improvement? could you do a video on that? is the M3 that bad or ok to get now that the price has come down to about $500? thanks for the video :-)
This EOS M3 is a big improvement from EOS M. But it still have quite a way to go. What I like: - 2 dials - Built in flash - great image quality What I don't like - Grip could be better - No 4K video (even phones have it now) - No built in EVF
Do you recommend the G7X the most for Vlogging? Any better options with external mic option that's small? I already have a Nikon 5100 DSLR which I love but need something much smaller and portable for vlogging.
I'm an M3 owner. Honestly I don't want or need the EVF. This camera class is for casual/fun use and I don't think an EVF is necessary. Just extra cost and complexity. Besides if I'm street shooting, the last thing I want to do is raise the camera to eye level letting my subject know I'm photographing them. For candids, composing using the screen is way more fun. Especially at hip level. I have my Canon 6D for when I need a viewfinder.
I love these mirrorless cameras but I hate how some don't have built in viewfinders and separately they cost more than the camera itself, pisses me off.
8 years on, ive found one for $150. Wouldnt ya know it, even now its quite good. Social media videos still orient themselves around a stationary speaking person, photos still dont really need to be more detailed than JPEG. WIFI is still the go to for transfers! But yes, dropping $800 on a proper DSLR will get you further.
hi guys, it's been exciting to watch most of your review because i feel it unbiased. i need some suggestion here to pick between Nikon J5 and Canon M3. is the few extra money is worthed for M3 despite the autofocus performance?
Hi guys, I started loving my EOS M3 after I''ve seen the shooting in this video. Can you please share some tutorial or tips about using the manual mode? So I could switch from auto and make these amazing pictures!
I hate the canon eos m's focus speed and servo focus. BUT.... I have the EOS M(for 2 years now) that i bought for like 350$ with the 18-55 and a flash. The camera produces amazing pictures(if you know what you are doing), some pictures have gotten me praise from pro photographers. It is amazing for portraits and landscape, not so much for sports. With good light it pretty much has the speed of a entry level DSLR. I use magic lantern to allow me to focus peak. The real problem are the lenses not the body, so if u wanna buy an adapter, then this camera is good. But it cost like 50-80$ depending on where you are. I can get a 50mm/1.8 at about 100$, so I would not buy an adapter so costly.
7:30 hahahahaha... empty Vistek parking lot. Thanks for the great review guys. Entirely right about Canon protecting their cinema EOS lineup... the 5D3 was the last time I got excited about buying a Canon, and I feel like their lineup for filming in the smaller form factors has been underwhelming ever since.

+cooloox yeah but aren't cameras usually more expensive in australia than in US?
7:27 that was savage. Poor Vistek
+MrBlaarghh yeah nice dig at Vistek there too I thought....
i was blown away by the Gx85 by you guys, then I hear no mic jack, sucks! i don't really get it.
I'm still rocking the EOS M.
+M I C H A E L Nice little camera. I have that and the EOS M3, plus a couple of DSLRs and an older DSLR (EOS 20D).

What I noticed with the flip screen cameras I tend to use the EVF much less but sure an internal EVF would have been much better just like the flash.
+Tamas Varga Talk about lens selection...
what? a first gen nex-3 (that was 2 years older) beat it and back then it already was cheaper than 250.
Pop.Up
When I had it as a walk around camera the 22 f2 and the 18-55 kit lens was enough and I had the Canoon lens adapter which I barely used. Now a decent UWA and a 55-250 is available and the 15-45 is coming. I am not saying there couldn't be more but I think the intended market has an OK selection.
Lofote
What does it mean "beat it"?
I like the grade on this episode, Jordan.
+matrodfilm Thanks! I've been experimenting with Color Finale for FCPX and I really like the results. Until RUclips goes and adds a bunch of magenta to three shots....
Jordan @ TCSTV
+TheCameraStoreTV I love the way the shadows came out in shots like 10:32, great work!
I agree!
I own a 60D, 6D and now the M3. This tiny camera is awesome and the 22mm is great! I love it!
You guys put out the best hands-on camera videos
you guys should do whats the best camera for making VLOG videos?
Thank you for a great review. One of the best I have seen. I purchased the EOS M3 and admit it has some shortcomings but over all it works great for me and does everything I need from it. I am a backpacker/hiker and this camera works great for me. Thank you again for the very informative review.
What's its shortcomings ?
Either way, i can't argue with the fact that there are better camera systems out there in the market.
apart from the bigger sensor you might as well get the G3x, I have and it's a great walkaround camera with a 24- 600mm lens
you guys do much better reviews than digitalrev and you don't get enough credit. Great job
+ObelixCMM Even that is behind Sony though, and Sony is behind Samsung.
ObelixCMM I think the problem for Canon in mirror-less is every one else contrast AF is far superior (even Fuji) and the likes of Sony, Fuji and even the Olympus E-M1 have hybrid af systems which are just far superior.
+Howie Mudge I agree completely. Dual pixel isn't awful though, but it's far from the front of the pack in mirrorless AF.
Can't wait to see what Canon has to say at the mirrorless party this year!
Thanks for the review guys. I think its the first M3 review Ive seen.
Interesting take on it.
Thanks For the fast reply. Definitely will considering the GX8. Keep up your guys great work, review ect. Been a sub for a while now.
The lighting at 3:35 looks cool. Was that reflecting off of a building?
+I demand pie Yes, we get some nice bounce off the buildings there. We've shot in that spot several times for that reason.
Jordan @ TCSTV
Canon has a LONG way to go in the mirrorless market for sure...
+Hugo França lol indeed
What brand you recommend for the mirrorless camera? I've been really confused choosing a cheap mirrorless camera between this, Sony A5100 and Fujifilm X-A3. I watched this video and your comment makes me more confused lol
Thank you
Hugo França I'll do mostly for photography but I have a plan of doing a vlog too 😆
Excellent review. Thank you for the consistency and thoroughness of your camera reviews.
can you make a comparison also of canon m3 vs. sony a5100. thank you ☺
Will the hot shoe on this camera accommodate the same viewfinder as the Canon G1X Mark 2?
Thank you very much for all your reviews! I was wondering, I'm torn between the Canon Eos M3 and the Panasonic Lumix G7. Do the extra pixels really count?
What are those punch at your competitions? Empty parking, cute signs? Was funny but I would like to know the story behind?
I want to buy the Canon EOS M3, but are there better cameras around the same price range?
you guys going to do the NX500
Is it good to amador that likes to travel and also watch sport and needs a compact camera?
Sony FS7 - is is possible to get a comparable picture quality out of anything less expensive?))
I love the quality, its a small camera with everything inside ?
can you bluetooth photos on it
Hey guys!
Are you carrying the TRD beholder MS-1?
+Pablo Riquelme Not yet. We're just testing it right now.
Jordan @ TCSTV
Thanks Jordan for the quick response,
Best regards from Winnipeg!
Which is better for filming short films/ documentaries? EOS M3 or EOS 700D?
Since we are requesting videos. Include the Came-TV gimbal. Also when are you getting the RX1R ii review out?
Thx
+Terry Grube We're still waiting for a production sample of the RX1R II. I'm looking into Gimbals for a future shootout.
Jordan @ TCSTV
+TheCameraStoreTV Thx Can't wait for both. Keep up the great work.
Hi there i just want to know if it is good enough for vlogging, video shoot for music video, and short films??
Btw not gonna use professionally just for a starter who wants to learn abt these things
what budget mirrorless camera would you recommend for me as a beginner? i want to take good pictures when i travel like the sceneries.
Chris, can you do a 2015 Mirrorless ILC Face Off? (Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, Canon) Similar to last year's video.
Just get the EF-S 18-135 IS lens with an adopter and that's probably all you need.
at same price or below the EOS M3 what your other choice for mirrorless camera?
Any suggestions on best high end point and shoot for video? Sony RX100 V the best?
In your opinion, what's the best camera for video at this price range?
I agree, it's an excellent camera and captures great image quality.
+Yannick Khong Hey, you're the most sensible person I've read in ages. You talk like a photographer instead of a spec sheet fanboy. Great stuff!
cooloox can't deny the m3/22mm combo is nice. Now if they added an f2.8 wide, an f2 normal and a f2 teleprime. Just slow enough to keep the size down.
Should I get the canon Eos m3, canon m100, canon Powershot SX730, or the canon g7x?
I am more into videos.... I want faster autofocus n a mic input.
Which one should I pick eos m3 or SL2/ 200d?
I want na buy camera but can't decide between gf7, Sony a5100 , fuji x-a2, Sony qx1(for new user)what should I buy
sir i had question, Which is better Canon EOS M3 or Panasonic panasonic dmc g7 ?. gimme the reason why is better, im a bit confuse here.ty
Lol was that empty parking lot line a jab at Vistek?
Canon... Never fails to underwhelm...
It's a great camera.
+cooloox Not by modern standards.
+Serenoj69 I beg to differ, but I may have different needs to you. I own this camera and know exactly what it can and can't do. If I bought a different brand in the same price bracket (where I live) I wouldn't get a better camera unless I bought a DSLR.
Canon EOS M3 or Sony a5100?
Anieck canon eos m3
For Vlog'ing; two reasons to get the M3 vs. the Sony : 1. The M3 has an aux mic input ! 2. With the genuine EF-EOS M lens adapter, you'll have a center of gravity tripod socket; use a bracket grip with acc shoe for your Rode Mic!
With the amazing Canon EF-S 10-18mm IS STM Zoom, plus a GorillaPod Hybrid, and you have the perfect Vlog'er...
I got the sony a5100 and I'm so glad I did. What a great camera.
Anieck what about the overheating issue?
You almost had me converted to the Lumix you mentioned....until I found it had no external mic, bummer!
I was curious about the video quality, specifically about moire which handycaps my Sony A72 and the a6000 and others so badly in wides as well the dynamic range~ beyond a medium shot on one lens inside. It felt really phoned in. You made your point about being uninspired by it but we could have used some examples.
Can you do a video on the eos m10 please?
Hi. I would like to ask if can I connect EF-M 55-200mm f / 4.5-6.3 IS STM lens to canon M3 camera without an ADAPTER?? Thank you!
do you think it's best to get the m6? is it a big improvement? could you do a video on that? is the M3 that bad or ok to get now that the price has come down to about $500?
thanks for the video :-)
Have you tested focus speed with USM lenses?
STM are very slow focusing lenses (when I compare 40mmSTM to 15-55 USM).
I am trying to upgrade from a T3I would this be a good camera to get on sale?
This EOS M3 is a big improvement from EOS M. But it still have quite a way to go.
What I like:
- 2 dials
- Built in flash
- great image quality
What I don't like
- Grip could be better
- No 4K video (even phones have it now)
- No built in EVF
Do you recommend the G7X the most for Vlogging? Any better options with external mic option that's small? I already have a Nikon 5100 DSLR which I love but need something much smaller and portable for vlogging.
This camera plays like a webcam on my pc?
How did you do that? 🙂
vs sony a5100, which is better please?
I've watched few videos about fuji xt10 n canon g7x.. In yr opinion which one is more easier and simple to use for travel?
I'm an M3 owner. Honestly I don't want or need the EVF. This camera class is for casual/fun use and I don't think an EVF is necessary. Just extra cost and complexity. Besides if I'm street shooting, the last thing I want to do is raise the camera to eye level letting my subject know I'm photographing them. For candids, composing using the screen is way more fun. Especially at hip level. I have my Canon 6D for when I need a viewfinder.
Record and Play button also very stiff to press sometimes. Touchscreen but still buttons should be easy to press.
I love these mirrorless cameras but I hate how some don't have built in viewfinders and separately they cost more than the camera itself, pisses me off.
Hi may i know if a white canon m3 will turn yellow after a period of time?
8 years on, ive found one for $150. Wouldnt ya know it, even now its quite good. Social media videos still orient themselves around a stationary speaking person, photos still dont really need to be more detailed than JPEG. WIFI is still the go to for transfers!
But yes, dropping $800 on a proper DSLR will get you further.
hi guys, it's been exciting to watch most of your review because i feel it unbiased. i need some suggestion here to pick between Nikon J5 and Canon M3. is the few extra money is worthed for M3 despite the autofocus performance?
Hi. I am looking for a camera and im thinking of Canon M3 and Olympus OMD EM 10 Mark II . Which one would you recommend and why?
Thanks for the review Chris!
Which gimbal would you recommend the Nebula or the Beholder gimbal?
Hi guys,
I started loving my EOS M3 after I''ve seen the shooting in this video.
Canon EOS M3 or Sony a6000 for first camera?? Please reply
do this camera have feat. for studio strobist shot? kinnda like 'liveview display ON/OFF" in sony A6000. i cant find that feat on eos m1 and 2.
Still recommend the Panasonic GX 8 ? Over this canon
7:27 "alright so we're just gonna have a seat next to this 'very' empty parking lot behind us here." (competitors parking lot) .....haha brilliant.
7:44 what the name of the tool on top of the camera ?
its an external viewfinder
Can this be recommended as my first camera (I plan to use this also in film-making)?
