Interesting. Never thought of it at that angle. But I think they are going with the first mention this time around for both devices. Reason being that supply chain says the MiniLED, which would be the “larger display model” seems to be around 2.1 inches diagonal reportedly? And I think even with that size, the FoV may possibly not soar too far past 100fov

If the new headsets are heavier, have noisy fans, and a darker output... I don't think that's good for the advancement of VR. The other things are good though.
I don’t expect them to be heavier at all. In fact I expect a huge difference in comfort/slimness. And due to the fact that all the pieces are coming closer to your face, center of gravity will be much improved
I would have bought a QUest+/Seacliff if that was all that was on offer because it still looked like it would have enough new features that interested me but I was disappointed when it looked like the Quest Pro Seabright version with the 3000x3000 pixel per eye Micro-Oled displays was off the table. I know it’s honestly tiring to probably hear me talk about display technology in almost every video, but that is probably the most defining aspect that will change hardware the most. Other than the lenses of course. )There might be a strategy to get people to think of my name whenever headsets announce with MicroOLED as well) As far as Qualcomm AR, depends on what you mean. Microsoft, Meta, Bytedance, etc. While I believe these companies are mainly focused on AR through VR passthrough, there definitely will be smart glasses too. And I’m guessing every company listed will have Qualcomm chips inside
So in the upcoming VR space, “mini LED” is similar to QLED TV displays with a grid of backlights to improve contrast and black levels... and OLED is about the same. ARPARA has their wafers/MicroOLED made in China from what I understand. Meta/Apple are making theirs using TSMC in Taiwan. And it’s important to note while big players such as Meta/Apple are affected by these situations, they are not affected nearly as much

Ya, the Prosumer stuff will be the most interesting products for the next few years. Which is why Meta, Apple, and Valve are all focusing on the high price point
@@SadlyItsBradley Unfortunately, technologies like these must first assert themselves in large companies and then in the broad common market… the same thing happened with many other inventions, technologies and products of the past… such as, for example, the elements that make up our modern cell phones today Today, it has been done for decades, back in the 40's, 50's and 60's... and it wasn't until the mid 90's and into the 2000's that it became a reality until we had what we have in our hands today.

Oculus has sorta been a nonexistent brand for a while to me. But for most people who have been in the space for a while, it’s a sore spot. It’s like if Sony renamed their PlayStation to “Gaming Station” to a lot of people. Growing up with an industry and the brand that built it up just to have it taken away is gonna take time for people to get over.
I think it’s a bit funny. For VR oled is the bees knees but when Nintendo made the switch oled it’s seen as lazy (or at least I haven’t seen very positive response for it).
When it comes to VR the displays are a big deal. When it comes to a console the specs are the priority. Nintendo announced a screen revision when people wanted more processing power. Even then consumers still ate it up
I have had this question my entire life I hope you answer it 😅. Do VR companies share specs with each other before releasing their headsets? Because if one the company was able to come up with high technology with fair price while competitors provided like medium specs with high price, all other competitors will lose money because customers will can buy better specs with good money? Like if valve could came up with new chip that is 10 times faster than coming Cambria's chips and bring new technology that is not on cambria and there were huge difference and price is not very different meta would not sell their headset.
Absolutely not. Most of the industry’s secrecy about this stuff is mainly so their competitors don’t know what’s going on. They usually have to brace themselves and wait for pricing announcements especially. Companies will even have their own “corporate espionage” sectors of their company FOCUSED on what technology their competitor is likely using for their next products. I do it for free, though 🥲

Interesting. Never thought of it at that angle. But I think they are going with the first mention this time around for both devices. Reason being that supply chain says the MiniLED, which would be the “larger display model” seems to be around 2.1 inches diagonal reportedly? And I think even with that size, the FoV may possibly not soar too far past 100fov
it's going to get interesting
Sleeping in that micro oled headset though 😋
Let’s hope your right!
Another great video! I’m excited to see what’s coming! Like you I’d pay more! I’m also interested to see what Apple comes up with (just not the price!).
Don't forget to prepend to description links
so the miniled seacliff is probably coming soon, but the seabright is going to release later this year, or even later?
IF there are 2 SKUs as I think there are: Either they are holding back SeaCliff so it can release at the same time as Seabright, or ya. What you side
Nice work
Hi Brad!
I love getting the most exciting vr news from a plank of wood
Very excited if it turns out that wasn't the case after all. Would love to hear confirmation that it had a more powerful SOC, Display POrt connection and at the very least WIFI6e 6ghz but preferably WIGIG2 60ghz. Gonna be another expensive Hardware year for me in 2022. €2000+ for the Kickstarter Yaw2 Motion Sim rig I should receive this year, €1000+ for a Cambria/Seabright/Quest Pro...and God knows how much for an RTX4090. LOL.
So were no longer looking at a end of Q2 for release???
It’s possible for the MiniLED version in terms of mass production.
I’m looking forward to a new Meta Device as it will push the industry further forward. It’s obvious the quest 2 was rushed to market. Can’t wait to see what a truly polished Quest device would look like.
I just want an affordable headset with face tracking. Would make social VR feel way more lively. Even if it's over 1k it will at least have better hardware than the vive pro eye and not need additional hardware to track your mouth.
@@sheepish2159 your going to have to wait for full face tracking unless you want to pay a high price today best price will be this headset and it's going to be as good as the reverb G2 headset I'm guessing for a fraction on the price
This is so cool!
I think all the headsets under Cambria will be called Quest 3... And maybe there is a quest 3 (sea cliff) and Quest 3 pro (sea bright)...
I personally think the Cambria headsets will have a different naming scheme/product line than the Quest line. Both product lines will have iterations over time. A consumer cycle, and a prosumer cycle
@@SadlyItsBradley makes sense especially if they have amazing AR functionality which sets them apart from the Quest quite a bit. I wonder what the name is going to be!
Meta literally said Cambria is not a quest...what more confirmation than this do you need?
one reason not to announce more about cambria at connect was ....the name change maybe
I like the discussion around the black box they brought in to Zuckerbergs house that seemed like they were going to open it up and show off Cambria. But didn’t 😅
All I’m hearing is that we can finally watch 2k videos in big screen
so roughly ~2785 x 3000 resolution @ 90 Hz for Seabright.
What about Seacliff? You mentioned "around 2K per eye", but there wasn't anything specific in the data leak you put up----have more precise specifics?
Supply chain sources say they are ordering 2160x2160 per eye MiniLED displays. But kernel reports they are actively using 1820x1920 per eye of that
@@SadlyItsBradley Thanks for the info! Bit disappointing to hear that it's effectively the same *exact* resolution as the Quest 2.
I don’t see how this is supposed to compete with what apple is rumored to be releasing.
@@SadlyItsBradley following up on this, do you think if Cambria supports a tethered link solution that the upsample will take full advantage? Right now I typically run Q2 at max upsample, via tethered link, and it looks way more clear like that. Curious if you think Cambria will be able to be pushed harder via upsample, and possibly to it’s full potential.
I’d be sad if they chose to make Cambria a standalone-only HMD, and cut out tethered or airlink desktop support.
@@mikehudgins8545 I haven’t seen any evidence of this, unfortunately. The device is using a form of eDP and other VESA DP standards. But no info on if we will see a port dedicated for compressionless PC VR
This is insane
Do you have any videos on whether the new headset from meta will have eyetracking and any form of dynamic focus?
It will have eye tracking. Not sure of the details on the optics other than they are polarization-based pancake lenses. I’d at least expect a diopter for prescription adjust?
@@SadlyItsBradley thanks! What are your thoughts on varifocal displays? Meta seems to have done a good bit of research on the area (and the other solutions for the problem)
@@manmythlegend3084 from what I have seen, varifocal lenses are heavily invested in by all the megacorps right now. Not only that, but investments into light field displays/MICRODISPLAYS.
It’s a matter of time that will only happen faster as the XR market/need for smaller AR devices increases
@@SadlyItsBradley so exiting to hear! Imo that will be a game changer, as that with the combination of high res displays will be so incredibly immersive that we can almost exchange TVs and screens for vr headsets
Interesting!
12k reveal in 3 days, you think their QLED can hold a candle to OLED? They seem pretty confident.
I think it will be great for their device needs. There are No microdisplays/optics systems that will be able to do their FoV specialty
That being said, I imagine their device will be considerably heavy even compared to current Pimax HMDs
@@SadlyItsBradley Their COO Kevin said it's lighter than the 8kx for what that's worth...
This channel is practically named “BradLED”, “Brad’s Mixed Displays”, “Bradley Loves Displays”.
In all fairness, display tech might be the biggest setback and your videos are epic! Do you think Qualcomm will work with a partner to release AR devices?
I know it’s honestly tiring to probably hear me talk about display technology in almost every video, but that is probably the most defining aspect that will change hardware the most. Other than the lenses of course.
)There might be a strategy to get people to think of my name whenever headsets announce with MicroOLED as well)
As far as Qualcomm AR, depends on what you mean. They’ve already made a lot of partnerships in that regard.
I wonder if VR tech will make use of the new R & G subpixel + blue backlight display - Linus Tech Tips did a video recently about Samsung’s new “QD OLED” display coming out with deep blacks, truer colors and higher brightness: “Samsung just made everything else OBSOLETE”💡
Sea Cliff = Meta Cambria
Sea Bright = Meta Quest 3 ??
No I don’t think so. I think something a project called “Eureka865” is more likely the Quest 3
Nice
Quest Pro Plus confirmed?
Hi Brad!!!! Can you please make some videos on hologram tech of samsung and microsoft. I do not see a lot of content regarding those especially on how they work.
Hey! I actually talked about it in a video a few weeks ago! ruclips.net/video/HbZxJnXCWeo/видео.html
Skip to around 20 minutes to get a slight overview of what I think they’re mostly talking about right now when they say “hologram” technology 😇
Clearly it is not happening next gen, but varifocal wen?
who else bought a Goovis for watching movies and working on the desktop because VR headset resolution and comfort is not there yet?
November show, December release?
I think so.
I think you might be right.
@@taja1976 hopefully it is, im excited for it to be honest.
Brad I hear Arpara is delaying shipment till April now due to a growing Covid-19 outbreak in China. Will Micro-OLED production be hitting some walls this year according to your friends?
ARPARA has their wafers/MicroOLED made in China from what I understand. Meta/Apple are making theirs using TSMC in Taiwan. And it’s important to note while big players such as Meta/Apple are affected by these situations, they are not affected nearly as much
@@SadlyItsBradley That’s sounds like good news for the displays at least. Not sure how CoVid will affect all aspects of sourcing. It seems we are getting more GPUs back in stock which is great.
@@tomoprime217 I think we are mostly past the Covid issues with chip shortage and still are just feeling the lingering effects of consumer demand being higher than ever. But again, companies like Apple and Meta are heavily immune to these issues more than the small company/startup
Great video as always, here's food for the algorithm, nomnom. :p
Fundraise something to put on the wall you're facing, I'd like to have your audio free of reverb :). Maybe a curtain does the job.
the the metacambria the powerhouse of the cell?
Ha, I like this
If meta is making prototypes with u-oled i wonder how valve is doing with their research and prototypes
Also i miss quail comm
I’m still pretty sure their components/design is finalized for the most part. They are just working on getting the fabs together for mass production. Which who knows how long that will take
Hey Bradley, you're always in the thick of this news, have you seen or heard of any patents yet for haptic feedback devices that give us the sensation of tongues licking us? Thanks for keeping up with your passions and mine!
I wish.
@@SadlyItsBradley Aw, oh well, maybe we've still gotta perfect "guns shooting us" for a few more years first.

I wouldn't be surpised if they found a way to get 120°+ FOV somehow.
Horizontal? That’d be great! But I’m sorta doubting that at the moment.
I may have made my last purchase based off of it having Micro-OLED if it had existed...even if it was more expensive...
first ....of many
Where is that sexy avatar BRADLEY?
HARDWARE COMPANIES!
We Want Micro-OLED and will not buy crap not made with it!
I took my Quest 2 back. I am waiting for WIFI 7 and Micro-Oled to get into VR. Make it happen this year!
da boofie sandwich
People really want virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality to be, overnight, a product that costs $200 or $100... when we all know that's not how innovative new products work, many times they take up to decades to drop in price or become really accessible and reach the big market.
Ya, the Prosumer stuff will be the most interesting products for the next few years. Which is why Meta, Apple, and Valve are all focusing on the high price point
Honestly all I really want is a cv1 with micro oled displays. I don’t need any of the color pass through ar face tracking crap.

Unfortunately, technologies like these must first assert themselves in large companies and then in the broad common market… the same thing happened with many other inventions, technologies and products of the past… such as, for example, the elements that make up our modern cell phones today Today, it has been done for decades, back in the 40's, 50's and 60's... and it wasn't until the mid 90's and into the 2000's that it became a reality until we had what we have in our hands today.
Will it also still have a very small max IPD and a face plate that only fits people with narrow of small heads? I expect so, and I'm never buy a Meta VR headset, for these reasons and I don't want to support Meta.
Great update Brad, this sounds a lot better than the 2160 x 2160 per eye resolution ULED Cambria you leaked previously. Have you managed to get your hands on a Varjo Aero yet? I'm wanting the absolute best headset for visual clarity as I mostly fly in MSFS, but am holding out until all the major manufacturers have announced their offerings. Any thoughts on whether a microOLED 3k Cambria would beat the Aero for visuals?
Sadly I still haven’t been able to try out the Aero. But from what I know/understand from the optics/display technologies of Seabright, it would look substantially better than Aero while also being way lighter on the head.
Where did U get the 3k price tag and I'm aussume your meaning 3k USD? Hell no the price is that you can get like the best headset for that price lol or did U mean 3k resolution lol? Witch is not really a thing
@@danieldieni3188 he’s talking about resolution. Because the SeaBright kernel has 3K per eye panels
Im gonna wait for Apple. Ive been kicked out of META so many times once I load my account on Cambria its gonna be nothing more then a brick a week after I buy it

Is Micro-OLED Cambria worth selling your soul?
Meta cambria idk why but I have a feeling telling me u did this intentionally to trigger M word ppl x)
They should've skipped Mini-LED in favor of Micro-OLED. Go big or go home.

Wen will OG content creators just stop being cringy about the name change. Oculus sold out to the man. It's not Zuck's Fault that every man does have a price. I'm so tired of it. It's been half a year. "Oculus, uh um, well its META now (insert snarky face)" Bruh, I'm new to VR and its so dang cringe. Just call it Meta Meta METAAAAAAAAAA and move on. Thanks. 🙏🏽❤️ (or just keep calling it Oculus...just move on)
Oculus has sorta been a nonexistent brand for a while to me.
Even then consumers still ate it up
@Rev Jeez sorry
What's different between micro oled display and the oled on quest 1 ?
Big differences. I recommend my OLED MICRODISPLAYS video from late last year. Or the previous video before this one.
@@SadlyItsBradley Thanks for answering, I think you are the best VR RUclipsr, my favourite.
