    Comparison: 07:42
    Final Breakdown: 13:05
    The inaugural release, Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson C, features liquid from only 72 barrels from the now dismantled, seven-story rickhouse, Camp Nelson C. Built in 1946 and decommissioned in 2021, Camp Nelson C became a treasured rickhouse of Wild Turkey Distilling Co. Situated on top of a hill and next to the Kentucky River, the warehouse was made from timber and clad with tin to naturally control internal temperatures, with space for air to circulate and allow the barrels to breathe during the aging process. Aged for over 10 years, this limited release of non-chill filtered bourbon was bottled at 112.4 barrel proof and priced at $250.

    Great review. I have seen these on secondary for 700 and they sat. Prices have dropped down to 600 and they are still sitting. The people posting them literally have cases available and I'm glad that no one is buying.

    When the label for this was spotted on the TTB, I was excited. The idea of an annual release exploring various rickhouses is really interesting. I figured with the pricing of RR13, it'd probably be priced about the same, maybe a touch more for novelty. Then the press release dropped with the $250 price tag, and although I consider myself a Turkey fanboy, I'd pass on this even if I saw it for MSRP.
    That price tag was sobering.

    I totally agree that I wish distilleries would release a larger quantity at smaller sizes (375ml) for their rare/hyper-allocated bottles. It would give a lot more people the ability to actually try different things. There are too many bottles that I have come to accept that I will never be able to try unless I pay obscene secondary prices for.

    I just got this bottle last night, I paid 266$ plus tax but when I tasted it, I wasn’t sad to have paid the price, of course I wish it was a more affordable bottle, but the flavors from this bottle is just incredible. To be able to have this and of course share this with other people which I did last night was amazing,as you always say it’s not about the whiskey but the people you share it with, I definitely think this was a score on my part to be in the right place at the right time!

    Even if I could find it at retail, I’d pass. There is no way this is worth even $250. Too bad that even WT has gone viral and overpriced. Thank You Jason. It’s still interesting to watch your take. I’ll stick to RR single barrel picks. BTAC is $130, albeit impossible to find.

    RR13 > Single RH, enough said
    If the crazy $250+ retail prices lead to a decline in crazy flipping / secondary I can a actually get behind that. At least the distilleries who actually make the juice get my money vs the random flipper.

    • @thomasmichael6509
      @thomasmichael6509 Год назад +1

      Unfortunately these jacked up markups are probably the only thing that’s gonna slow secondary down at this point. The Scotch distilleries figured this out already pretty successfully. It kinda sucks but its better than secondary if you’re someone who actually drinks the stuff.

  • @justinafuchs2619
    @justinafuchs2619 Год назад +1

    Yeah, I would love to have glass of it, but I definitely won’t go hunting for it. The Russels Reserve Single Barrel is one of my all-time-favourite Bourbons, and it’s bad enough that I have to hunt for a bottle of it here in Germany.
    And I love your suggestion that distilleries would release a larger quantity at smaller sizes, so that more people had the chance of drinking(!) those special releases.
    To be honest, I’m sick and tired of hunting for a special bottle of Bourbon. My absolute favourite Bourbon is Stagg Jr (I don’t buy the super pricey bottles), and it’s nearly impossible for me to get my hands on it without ruining myself.
    You have to buy it on secondary market, and currently someone is offering a bottle of Stagg Jr for 1360 Euro on eBay in Germany. That’s just absolutely ridiculous ..

    • @justinafuchs2619
      @justinafuchs2619 Год назад

      Unfortunately, that’s absolutely true. When I started drinking Bourbon, no one gave a flying f about it, my friends laughed at me because Scotch was „the shit“ and Bourbon a weird drink .. Now I can’t get my hands on my favourite Bourbons while those damn flippers are making real money with selling it on secondary market.
      Now my wealthy friends are collecting the hyper-allocated Bourbons, they don’t drink it, it‘s just a damn status symbol standing on the shelf. Don’t get me wrong, I‘m quite happy for the distilleries, but damn, I hate this trend with a passion ..

    Jason, For me nothing more enjoyable than tasting the same whiskey along with you ( or Matt Porter), really satisfying because I can identify with you both on a tasting. That said with all do respect, finding too many reviews on unobtainable whiskies or finished bourbon/rye. Not that they don’t have a place but as a traditional bourbon and rye drinker I’d like more emphasis on those. Please remember us average “Joes” and give us some blinds on easy to find and affordable bourbon and rye without any added jazz/finish where it’s no longer bourbon or rye but a did different whiskey altogether. Ive always connected with your flavor profile but lately find I’m losing you to juice I can’t obtain or afford or both so why watch your review on what I’ll never have the chance to taste. Affordable but mostly available is what I’m looking for otherwise what’s the point. . Or maybe I’m in the minority of your viewers and so just ignore my observation and I’ll go quietly to my modest whiskey cabinet each night and be happy not drinking Pappy. Still a fan and will continue to mention you to store clerks and friends who know their bourbon and rye. I wish you continued success. Stay true to yourself and don’t forget us regular “Joes” on your rise to whisky youtube fame.

      I agree. It's something I've been cognizant of lately. I will be bringing back what's on the shelf Wednesday each week. It's just tough with all the releases in the fall. But yes. More available whisky will be featured each week. Short vids will be more for the big releases. But I agree with you especially seeing how these big releases haven't been much better than the regular shelfers lately

    Bottom line: It ain't worth the asking price.
    It seems more a corporate move but this really should be priced below Master's Keep and I'm ok with pricing over the 13 as every year will vary in profile and experience.

    At $250 I'm not even remotely interested. Ultimately it a bourbon which has very strict controls in it's creation process so the end result is not a huge variation in the possible flavors present. Too many expensive / rare products don't stand up well in true blind tests and I suspect the same would be true of this.

    The secret is out... Distilleries release a "limited whiskey" every year, charge a ton of $$$$, and see people go crazy. For me the RR 10 years is great, the RR SB can be wonderful. Paying 8 times the price of a RR 10 years for this "limited release", is too much for me. Can the difference in profile justify the price? Never.
