- This is a small and simple cargo trailer conversion for a family of 4. I have not done anything like this before and I learned a ton!
Most everything I learned was from tnttt.com
Please let me know if you would like video details of certain elements of the build. I know some of the video gets dark and the AC takes over on the audio. I apologize.
There is a gap in the build videos, I am working on finalizing those. I just figured I needed to get this out.

Great setup✅ Carbon Monoxide detector is supposed to be placed low because the gas is heavy it sinks.
Tamara Weber Thanks for your comment. For the detector, you are referring to a LP/ Propane detector. That goes low. CO detector goes 5ft from the floor. Thanks, it made me double check before I replied.

Love your setup 12 feet used properly, glad to see 6x12 because I am doing 7x12 that extra foot looks like it would come in handy. I agree need real toaster for toast. contemplating if microwave is needed. I am also trying to squeeze in a shower. beds looked excellent how high are inside ceilings
Thanks for watching! When we got our trailer we were worried about the wind drag on a 7 foot wide trailer with our tow vehicle. 7 feet would make it so you could have a full queen length on the bed with the layout I did. The inside height is 6ft 3in. We are not tall people so it works for us. 6'6" would have been better. In the small space every little bit f space you can get makes a big difference.

Just an idea for you, Use curtains for your cabinet doors below. you could secure them with velcro, Easie Peasie. GREAT BUILD thanks for sharing!
Thanks or watching! I forgot to mention that our solution is to put curtains there, just haven't got to it. We are going to put them in at the same time we install the curtain above the sink. It's a great idea!

Yeah though 7 foot would be more drag unless I had a wider pull truck. My wive wants real bedding so need that extra space. I was originally thinking a taller fridge but yours looks like it works pretty good to hold two gallons. Didnt see the brand of your cargo trailer is it a diamond cargo, I want to get mine but will drvie to GA to pick it up.
I do wish we had a 7 foot wide. We love our fridge. We went from one half its size and then this one and can fill it with a weeks worth of food, no problem. Ours is a Diamond Cargo Trailer. We picked it up on our way back from Florida. Trojan Cargo sales worked on the exact specifications with us. They were great. Saved me tons of money!
3 likes??? This deserves so many more likes! I love your design. How did you mount the e-track that holds the bunk beds? Did you just screw one side into the frame or did you have it welded to the frame?

I just bought a 6x12 trailer that looks almost exactly like yours, including the V-nose and metal on front. The only difference is mine has barn doors on the back. I'm getting ideas.
I'm so excited for you! Lots of options for barn doors too. You probably have designs in mind off of your must haves. The greatest thing of a build is that it is personal. Stick to what you want and go with it!
@@donplata2813 Thanks Don. I am going to start out simply by loading it with my existing camping equipment, and go from there. I have lots of good gear that I can use without even starting the conversion, such as a cot, a 12V freezer, gas stoves and much more. All that equipment had been stuffed into my minivan before. Now I will be able to stretch out a lot. I'm excited too! The biggest freedom is being able to keep all my gear in the trailer and just hook up to go camping. Before, I had to load everything into my empty minivan, and removing it all when I returned home. I'll be camping within the next couple of weeks!

Merry Christmas. I'm currently building a very similar bed design in my 6x12. Would very much appreciate information on your dinette table that I assume folds down, rests level with the two benches and forms the middle section of the lower bed? Can you send details on purchasing the table please?
We used the same brand base as this. www.amazon.com/dp/B07X3W7HM6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_H6l6Fb26YJVKA . The adjustable feet couldn't take the weight of the 30x60 table. We took the adjustable feet off and planed down a 2x2 to the thickness we needed for each leg. The mechanism worked great, however required two people to put up and down since the table top was so heavy. It was thick. So perhaps a thinner table top or two tables together would be lighter. Let me know what other questions you have. Merry Christmas!

What do you pull it with? Nice build. Thought of putting a hitch on the back for a bike rack & free up the space your using for something else?

Sorry, I missed your comment somehow. We used magnetic child cabinet locks. We released the catch with the magnet once we set up camp. Something like this:.

Put the smoke detector 12" down on the sidewall. It'll be fully functional and the toaster won't set it off. Happy trails.

The beds have worked fantastic! Even with a youngster pouncing around no problems.

Where did you get the track from that’s on the trailer for the awning
John Allain I got the track here: www.sailrite.com/Awning-Track-Aluminum-48 you have to buy the screws/hardware. The description tells you what size you should get
That's an awesome way to make an awning for a reasonable price. I think I might try to find a heavy duty canvas to use as well.

Do you mind me asking how tall you are? I’m 6’ and wondering if 69” is enough to sleep comfortably. I obviously don’t sleep perfectly straight.
I am 5'7". My toes and head touch laying straight out. If you use the last two feet that I used for storage as part of the bed it would be a standard queen size bed.

What do you pull it with.I have 2015 Escape can I pull with it.Or would I need something bigger.
We pulled with a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe (3rd row) This has a V6 with a tow rating of 5000# and tongue weight of 500. The trailer is 2300-2500 pounds fully loaded. If you have the 2015 Escape with the 2.0L engine and tow package then you are rated at 3000#. If you have the 1.8L engine you could tow 2000#. So the 2.0L could tow it. The wind resistance of the cargo box may tax the Escape quite a bit though. I felt like my Santa Fe was working too hard and decided to get a bigger tow vehicle. The Santa Fe pulled hills really well, but my RPMS were almost always 3500-4000. The trailer empty from the manufacturer was 1300# so if you watched weight in the build the Escape may not work as hard. I would go bigger than your Escape.
I have a 2011 Ford Escape with a V-6. Hoping to get into an all aluminum trailer 6X12X6. Certainly hope it will pull it. Can't afford anything bigger. Its rated at 3500 lbs. Glad to know about wind resistance tho. Your trailer looks great on the inside. Good design. My trailer will be my home as I am selling my sticks & bricks. Too much upkeep.
@@terrymoseley168 aluminum will definitely save a couple hundred pounds. Less worry about rust and can last a long time! They cost a bit more, but the extra cost has benefits if you can afford it. We love our trailer! Thanks for watching and the complements. If your 2011 is rated for #3500 with an aluminum trailer and watching your build weight you could do it. Plan on some extra drive time when you travel. Make sure weight is distributed well , that can go a long way and keep it stable.
Has a kid ever dropped down on ya in the middel of the night. Nice job.
Once, but with the bunk down in sleep mode the fall was very short (2-3ft), part on us and part on the cushions. Quite the surprise no one was hurt and hasn't happened again in over 100 nights. The child that fell is quite a mover while sleeping. You could put guard rails down the middle to prevent it.
I love the TNTT website !! What size AC is that on the roof ? it seems it's a smaller foot print than a 13,500 BTU. Great trailer...
1st Choice Mobile DJs it is a Dometic Brisk Air 2 13,500 BTU. It is touted as a smaller unit in deminsion and more efficient. I don't have other rooftop units to compare to, but it is loud in the small space. It does a fantastic job cooling the trailer! Within under a minute the trailer is cooled off. We probably wouldn't notice the noise as much if we had a thermostat attached so it didn't have to be on all night or us turning it on and off through the night.
Don Plata I was thinking about considering one of these rooftop air conditioners. they don't have a thermostat to cut on and all the way off once they reach their coolness? Also check out micro-air you can run that air conditioner with a small 2000 watt generator usually but you need the micro are they say installed on the rooftop air conditioner.
@@jonsmith2217 I looked at the micro-air options. I like the idea, but it took up floor space that I was already short on. There are some other models of rooftop air conditioners that allow for a thermostat to control the temp but would require more money. I may upgrade some day.
Don Plata the micro air you add on to the inside of your rooftop air conditioner. Basically you can run it with a smaller generator or just one generator. I wasn't that familiar with the rooftop air conditioners I thought they were fully adjustable with the thermostat that kicked on and all the way off. Kind of like my adjustable propane heater with a full adjustable thermostat. And I'm glad I got an adjustable thermostat vet free propane heater and not the one that either is on or off you're too cold or you're too hot with a non adjustable propane heater. And one advantage with the rooftop air conditioner they draw less amps than wall unit air conditioners. My little 79cc 2200 w Sportsman dual fuel generator will run a 5050 BTU window air conditioner home propane no extension cord. But I got to thinking I'm going to have to put it on a little bit of a cord to be able to reach the ac. I was running the air conditioner straight into the generator without an extension cord and I'm going to use the thick extension cord I have on the next test. I try to do actual test because of course the longer the wire the more the Heat and chance of throwing a breaker or overload.

how does the awning hold up in the wind?
It does well. We have had it in standard wind of 15mph. With gusts in the 20s it has not budged. We have not had it up in any winds higher than that.

Stove?
We have a camp stove we put on the counter and ventilate while we use it. We didn't install one so we could have the freedom to cook inside or outside.
@@donplata2813 Yeah, you've got everything but a stove and I was wondering how you cook, or where. I put a Coleman propane stove in mine.
@@CajunWolffe ours is a Coleman stove also. Works great for either inside (with good ventilation) or out.
@@donplata2813 Yes I have mine mounted in the counter, it's the tree burner with oven model, and your looking at it as you step in the door. I have my sink in the middle of the V and refrigerator to the left of the stove. I have a 6x12 and next time I go out to my brothers place I'll remember to get pictures or a video.
toilet?
I had a plan for a cassette toilet at the end of the trailer but I was out voted. The others in my family didn't want the odors. In this design though one could easily be stowed at the end of the bench and slid out on the remaining 2 feet for an emergency/middle of the night toilet.

Why not just spend a little extra effort to make it look nice inside? It's very depressing I guess you live outdoors mostly. Sorry for the sour note, but why not just try a tinsy bit? It's not very homey except for the kitchen top. Otherwise, it's like just sheets and empty frames.
Depressing? Its made to be efficient with 2 little kids, thats 4 in the small trailer. It does seem cozy too. The carbon monoxide Alarm does need to be put lower, for a true reading. Just put curtains across sink area or short accordian style closet doors. They slide. Very nice conversion.
